A designated DOD entity then will request county-by-county status to gain situational

awareness via amateur radio.

�This exercise will begin with a national massive coronal mass ejection event which

will impact the national power grid as well as all forms of traditional communication,

including landline telephone, cellphone, satellite, and Internet connectivity,� Army MARS Program

Manager Paul English, WD8DBY, explained in an announcement.

During the exercise, a designated DOD Headquarters entity will request county-by-county status

reports for the 3,143 US counties and county equivalents, in order to gain situational

awareness and to determine the extent of impact of the scenario.

Army and Air Force MARS organizations will work in conjunction with the Amateur Radio

community, primarily on the 60-meter interoperability channels as well as on HF NVIS frequencies

and local VHF and UHF, non-Internet linked Amateur Radio repeaters."

The Opioid Epidemic: Will the Federal Response Get it Right? - Duration: 3:09.

The opioid epidemic in particular has a biological side to it because opiates

are so physically addictive. When people start taking them they develop tolerance

and withdrawal that makes them need and want to take more and more.

I'm absolutely encouraged by the bipartisan support for relief of the

epidemic because this crosses all demographics in all state lines and all

rural urban communities I think what we can continue to do is to provide

treatment and resources for people with addiction. That's going to be the number

one source of a solution to the opioid problem.

On the treatment side absolutely keep parity for mental health treatment

because the addiction is a mental health disorder. As long as we keep those

treatment resources in place that will drive the presence of doctors who are

willing to treat it and drive the ability of patients to get into

treatment when they are ready. The next the next level of care would be to find

ways to encourage people to get into treatment.

For all forms of addiction we need psycho-social treatment, so we need to

treat the underlying psychological causes of addiction. People who are

depressed, people who are anxious, people with untreated ADHD are all more likely

to develop addiction when they experiment with a drug of abuse. So we've

got to treat that underlying psychopathology. The other thing that we

have to do is treat social, sociological problems that go along with it;

poverty, disconnection, lack of opportunity. All of these things are

underlying any epidemic.

Prevention shouldn't take the form of just say no to drugs. Prevention should

take the form of here's a child in crisis who needs help and how can we

help this child escape the abusive or the neglectful or the under-resourced

home and if we can do those things then we can hope to turn the tide for the

next generation

This year we decided to look around and see where we could do the most good. And

it turned out that we could do the most good in the emergency department at Duke

so we're working with emergency room doctors to try to get an increase in

naloxone prescribing and try to get more partnerships to get people who come in

with an opiate overdose connected to treatment resources.

Trump's Opioid Announcement Will Do Literally Nothing To Solve The Crisis - Duration: 4:26.

On Thursday, after months of saying he was going to do this, this is actually something

he was supposed to do about six months ago, Donald Trump finally decided to declare a

national health emergency over the opioid crisis here in the United States.

That's great that he decided to finally do that.

After all, 175 people are dying every single day in the United States as a result of overdoses

on prescription opioids.

However, his declaration of a national emergency literally does nothing to solve the problem.

Currently, the fund that is set up to help deal with this crisis, the amount of money

in that fund stands at $57,000, which is about $7,000 short of being able to give everyone

in this country, their families, who have died of opioid overdose, $1,000 each.

We're not even to the point of funding where we could pay the victim's family $1,000 because

there's no money in the fund.

Trump's declaration of a national health emergency does nothing to increase that funding.

States can ask for more money, but they could literally do that anyway.

Donald Trump's announcement on Thursday was nothing but fluff, nothing but "Look at me,

look how great I am, look how serious I'm taking this issue that I told you I was going

to act on six months ago."

It was a pathetic attempt by a failing president to act for a moment like he was some kind

of decent leader here in the United States.

Meanwhile, an opioid executive actually got hauled off to jail yesterday for the role

that he played in pushing doctors to prescribe more opioids.

That's how we solve this problem.

It's not just the manufacturers, it's the distributors, the people out there pushing

these pills on American citizens.

Declaring a national health emergency is great.

It raises awareness about it, but if you're not going to fund the program, if you're not

going to hold those responsible liable, then don't bother.

There are people, there are attorneys, there are lawyers, judges, law enforcement officers

and even doctors coming forward who are trying to hold the actual responsible parties responsible

for it.

That's why yesterday, in the midst of this grand announcement, nobody talked about the

fact that one of the distributing company owners went to jail, has been arrested, and

is now going to face a criminal trial for his role in pushing this.

This is as big, if not potentially bigger, than what happened with the tobacco lawsuits

in the 1990s.

Donald Trump is not taking this seriously enough.

The American public doesn't seem to understand how serious this crisis truly is.

Go look at some of the hardest-hit areas with this, Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, Illinois.

They understand what's going on and they know that President Trump's declaration is not

going to do anything to solve the problem.

We need real leaders with real ideas taking real action on this issue.

Right now, the only people who have that kind of persona, that kind of power, are the trial

lawyers that are trying to recover for the victims here and stop making states and cities

pay for the fact that drug company CEO's and distributor CEO's are pushing these pills,

killings hundreds of people a day, and sticking the cities and states with the cost of having

to care for those victims.

It's the lawyers out there that are working on that, not the Trump Administration, not

the Republicans in Congress and not Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price.

We have some real heroes out there in this story, but it's certainly not anyone within

the Trump Administration.

The Kremlin strongman has been at the sharp-end of Russian politics since 1999 – serving as the both the President and Prime Minister.

Vlad is reported to be considering finally giving up the reigns of the superpower within the next six years. But don't expect to see the last of Putin.

The 65-year-old is claimed to preparing his daughter Katerina Tikhonova, 31, for leadership. Putin is said to want to establish a new dynasty, and lacks a male heir with which to do so.

He is poised to announce his campaign for reelection in March next year, and would be expected to win in a landslide. Katerina does not have a stake in Russian politics yet, and is better known as a dancer.

Natalia Gevorkyan, a Putin biographer, said: "Putin does not have a male heir - at least officially - but he has two daughters.

"One of them, Katerina, has already entered the public space with several huge and costly projects." She added: "In theory, she can take part in the presidential elections and provide a calm time in old age for her father and his closest friends..

Speculation has raged over Putin's future, with suggestions he is grooming multiple people to take over and rule for him.

No official announcement has been made that Katerina is Putins daughter from his marriage to ex-wife Lyudmila, although this is widely accepted in Moscow. She is married to Russias youngest billionaire Kirill Shamalov, 35 , who is worth $1.25 billion.

Putin has made it his business to assert Moscows power on the world stage – squaring up to the US over Syria, North Korea and Crimea.

He is currently embroiled in feud with the US over allegations the Kremlin worked to swing the presidential election in favour of Donald Trump.

The iPhone X went on sale today, and with it, Apple released some information about the phone's repair pricing — and like the phone itself, it gets expensive. If you don't have the extended warranty, a screen replacement will cost $279. That's more than twice the price of an iPhone 6 screen replacement ($129) and about 65 percent higher than a new iPhone 8 screen ($169). The pricing was first spotted by MacRumors.

If that sounds high, you should be careful not to damage an iPhone X in any other way: all other out-of-warranty repairs will cost $549. Again, that's a lot more than what other recent iPhones cost to repair. iPhone 8 repairs cost $349 and 8 Plus repairs cost $399. That means if you crack the glass back of the iPhone X (or the iPhone 8), you might just want to live with it.

Apple's extended warranty, AppleCare+, often looks like a pricey upsell. But for iPhone X buyers, it seems like it might be a necessary safety net. Apple's warranty costs $199 for the iPhone X (up from $129 for the iPhone 8 and $149 for the 8 Plus); but while the warranty itself is more expensive, warranty service fees (which apply only when Apple is repairing something with "accidental damage") don't go up at all. So an iPhone X can still get a $29 screen repair if it's under warranty, and it can still get a $99 repair for anything else under AppleCare+, too.

For the iPhone X, on the other hand, you could crack and replace the screen twice under warranty ($257) and still pay less than a single out-of-warranty screen replacement ($279). And given that you're already spending over $1,000 on the phone, that's not a bad insurance policy, since it also fully covers repairs for when the device just stops working on its own.

While the repair prices look high, it's not all that surprising to see them jump up so much. Apple has to go to Samsung to get the OLED panels on the front of the iPhone X. Because Samsung is the only company that can supply those screens, they're going to be expensive. And because they're likely being supplied in limited quantities — due to production complexities like carving out that notch — the price on these is going to be even higher.
