Your Identity Can Be Stolen By Doing This! | I Am Kristin 📍 - Duration: 3:57.

hey guys it's christen so today's video is about how your identity can be stolen

just by doing an iconic symbol that I do in every video but luckily I do it the

right way before I start if you guys liked this video please give me a thumbs

up it helps so much you can have your identity stolen just by doing this crazy

right so my boyfriend came home one day and he was like you might want to stop

doing the peace sign at the end of your videos because I just read an article

that people didn't steal your identity for doing that I was like what are you

talking about like how would they steal my identity so I looked it up cuz I

wanted to know what was going on it kind of freaked me out I was like oh my god

someone's gonna steal my identity now like what am I gonna do and he was half

right but I do my piece like this with my nails facing out this article is

talking about doing the actual peace sign like this now we have technology

that is considered high definition so a researcher over at Japan's National

Institute of Informatics found that by doing the peace sign people can actually

pull your fingerprints off of a video or a photo now they do specify this is more

targeted towards photos because like in the video I'm moving around so it's not

exactly high-def they wouldn't be able to like pause it and accurately gather

my fingerprints from a video but when you're doing a peace sign and you're

doing piece like this and you're holding still and the camera zoomed in and it's

clearly focused they can actually zoom in take your fingerprints and steal your

identity with it really scary I'll list the article in the description below

pretty much it says fingerprints can be read from a photo that was taken up to

nine feet away if you're using a high definition camera that's even worse

so even if you're way far in the distance they can still capture your

fingerprints so because they were able to prove that you could capture

fingerprints just from a photo and some videos says they're working on a

fingerprint anti-theft Prevention substance that will help obscure

fingerprints on a camera not sure how that's gonna work it might even create a

false fingerprint in order to fake out hypothetical thieves in the mean time

you might want to find a different pose for your

selfies so I'm safe he really freaked me out I was like oh my god I've been doing

that same sign off for like the last 10 years or so on all these different

websites that I've been on but luckily I always do it this way which if I'm right

I think I read that this means fu in the UK which I didn't know about but I

always got peace so luckily I don't do it the other way so I think I'm safe

it's just more comfortable to me that was literally the only reason why I did

it this way and not this way but anyways I just wanted to relay that to all of

you guys because if you are someone that likes to do the peace sign I hate to say

does not do it or like to put something over your fingerprints like I'm doing in

this video but like that's what our world has come to they can steal your

identity from a photo like that's crazy to me if you told me that 20 years ago

be like Yeah right okay whatever but like that's where we are oh you know

what I just thought of something I always say please give me a thumbs up

and I hold my thumb towards the camera I might have to start doing it like this

or I'll just this is really awkward maybe I can do it sideways I can't steal

sideways right gosh anyways if you guys liked this video

please give me a thumbs up and if you want to see more don't forget to

subscribe I'll talk to you later peace

Anyone Can Draw | What Six Years of Improvement Looks Like - Duration: 20:39.

Hello! I'm Alyx or DizzyAlyx I guess, and I have been drawing for about seven years.

It's something that I've always loved doing

But I didn't really get into it until I was about 15 or 16 years old.

Fifteen or sixteen was around the time I met a couple of new friends that already drew stuff themselves

and I guess they just influenced me and I got into taking it a bit more seriously

and by that I mean actively trying to get better and create things, and being inspired by

specific things like other artists or TV shows or cartoons, games etc!

When I really like a character sometimes I'll draw fan art of them like most people would,

or I did.. I don't have as much free time now, but in 2011 I played a lot of "Harvest Moon Animal Parade"

and this is my guy right here!

so in 2011 I drew him, and... it wasn't great. I knew it wasn't great

but at the time of I was quite proud of it.

You know, I was just starting out and it didn't come out too bad

for what I was capable of back then. And in 2013 I decided to draw him again,

and I was so happy with how much better that the second picture was

I decided maybe this can be a thing, I'll redraw this every two years.

And I actually did! I drew him again in 2015, and then, in 2017; which is what you're watching right now,

as you can see, I drew him again.

I was actually quite nervous about this one.

I honestly didn't think I'd gotten much better between 2015 and 2017

I put off doing this until November because I wasn't quite sure

how I was going to draw something so much better than the last one.

in the end I was really self-aware of things I needed to do to get better, and what needed to happen.

The 2015 one had gone from a bust to a full body and a background

So it'd gone to what I like to call a "Full Piece" It's no longer a simple drawing.

It's more of a picture, with way more thought put in and I needed to beat it.

I needed to put in perspective. Perspective is something I absolutely hate drawing

but I knew. Like, it was 'the next thing' I needed to do to make this one

So much better than the one before it, as well as being the kind of...

Next step I needed to take to make my art better than it was, you know to kind of become a better artist.

I needed to.. put in perspective, to this picture. Ahah.

I needed to learn how to draw it.

So I ended up making a 3d model to help with this as well as using a Body-Kun figure.

and that is the actual name of it I am NOT a massive weeb.

I do own a pair of Body-Kun and Body-Chan, and they are very useful for drawing things like this

and getting reference for a specific pose.

So that's what I did, I posed and photographed Body-Kun and made a 3d model.

Obviously it's not going to provide you with absolutely everything you need

people have different body types, don't rely on them to be able to draw,

It's a nice help but you're not going to really improve if you just trace something like that.

So I never do directly trace a model when I bring it in to help me draw

it's you know, just reference for the pose

and you need to draw over it, but draw a character over it not draw the exact model themselves.

Otherwise everything you draw is just going to look the same.

If you really squint you can probably see it on the lowest layer there called "Layer 2"

That is the model in there, and that's what I used for this pose.

And it's a pose looking down from above the Wizards head.

So it's got the perspective and it also helps because on the last one I noticed...

I like to put the sky with Wizard because he is very into astrology. ...wait.

...Astronomy. xD

He has a telescope is all about the kind of stars and stuff so I did like to put in

the kind of space behind him as a night sky, and unfortunately for me,

the guy is wearing a purple-blue coat and that doesn't look great against the night sky.

so this pose actually really helped with that since we look down

and his coat no longer blends into the sky.

Which obviously is going to be something that helps me try to be the one I did in 2015,

You know, if the colours don't blend into the background.

So looking down at the ground really does help as well as put in that perspective kind of shot.

You're gonna see them all at the end,

kind of one after another and when you get to that you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

I'd only put in a night sky since the 2013 one and for some reason I chose to use a purple colour,

you're gonna see it and go oh, there. There it is.

oh god I just realized how much noise I'm making with my mouth what I talk.

this is why I don't usually put my voice in a video.

I just make noises or fiddle with things or pause for a long time

So I'm so sorry. But I'm trying to motivate you here.

You'll have to put up with it. Maybe I don't know try and tune it out

and just kind of listen to the message rather than the *smacking lips* that I'm making, you know.

Overall that 2015 isn't too bad, it just has a lot of strange color choices I think,

and what I- I think it was actually THE drawing that made me reconsider my style.

It was slowly getting more realistic I know it sounds strange since

it's.. it's very not realism, but to me, my style was going into that direction

and realism isn't actually a style that I like and

the fact that my style was drifting over there was not making me happy.

It's mostly the reason for the kind of lineart that I do now, that you're watching me do now

it's very bold, and smooth, a lot of people say.

I don't know really what that means when they say it, I guess it looks kind of... big strokes and crisp lines

and the fact- the thickness of the lines really helps me steer away from realism

and give the "signature look" I guess that my style has at the moment

and it's something that it actually did naturally but I used to kind of try and fight it

because I didn't use coloured lines back then and it just looked

really really strange with massive thick black lines on it

some people's styles look good with that but hmmm mine not so much.

With styles I say try not to fight the natural thing that your style does

like I said with me it was very thick broad strokes of lineart

and the end I just kind of accepted it and now it really works for me

I mean my favourite style isn't my own as weird as that is to say,

I think you can ask pretty much anyone that draws what their favorite art style is

and I can guarantee it probably won't be their own.

But what your own style will be, if you let it is unique, and unique to you

and probably someone else's favourite art style, even if it isn't your own.

And over the years it will grow with your skill level and develop into something

that you and other people might really really like so don't ever force an art style

because it kind of goes against the nature of an art style that kind of

develops over time on its own as you just get better at drawing and you should kind of let it

do what it naturally does I found. It was only after I stopped trying to "find an art style"

that I actually got my own art style. I know it sounds strange but

it's not really something you should focus on in my opinion. I mean if you really like cartoons

you might- that just might be the kind of direction you go with your art style

but don't try and copy a specific style I don't think.

It's probably not what you're naturally inclined to create when you draw something

and even- you might notice even if you try and copy an art style

there'll be things that you do that isn't in the style, and THAT is your style

and it's kind of peeking through. So just chill out and let it go,

and just do what it wants to do, don't focus on it too much.

Try and get better. Practice the things that you don't like or know that you're really bad at.

Draw some hands or something. Draw it for a week and just have a look

at how much better you are at drawing hands on day 7 then you were on day 1.

Anyway, that's enough about styles. I could go on and on and it could have its

own video but that's not really what this one's about so moving on:

As you may have guessed it's a "Draw it Again" meme and what this meme is,

is you draw something that you drew let's say a year ago and it's just a process kind of thing.

You see how much you've improved by drawing like the exact same thing again

and putting them together side by side.

People usually don't do this quite as many times as this one

certainly not four times for the same piece

but sometimes you do come across those and I think they're quite fun to look at

obviously the further apart they are and the more years the same one is carried out over,

the more dramatic the improvement will be and it's really interesting to see.

There are some really amazing ones to be honest

and it kind of inspiring to see and, even more so when it's looking at one of your own.

It's something I've really recommend doing at least once in your artistic career

because it really helps put your improvement into perspective,

and just to look back on how much you've improved over all the years or however long you've spent

is- it's very satisfying. And it can kind of brighten your day

and give you the motivation you need to say "hey this is what my art looked like six years ago"

I wonder what its gonna look like in another six years."

In the end that's basically what I draw again meme comes down to, I mean,

it's drawing something again to kind of look back and get a perspective

on how far you've come or what's changed or what you just got

way better at and it's super satisfying so I would recommend giving a try

if you're ever kind of having one of those times where it was really unmotivated

or feel like you can't draw. You know, you'll be able to see

how far you've come since you actually couldn't.

In the end it'll just come down to the practice that you get,

if you draw more the more practice you'll get, the better you'll get.

I'm myself not someone that draws every single day.

I don't have the energy or motivation or ideas to draw every day. I wish I could.

I wish I could just doodle things in a sketchbook but it doesn't really come to me very easily.

so I haven't put any really really special effort and time into drawing

except from drawing and not giving up. Drawing a few times a week let's say;

every week, for six years. And this is how far I got. And I'm not going to stop

so I'm only going to get better.

There's nothing in the world that you can't be good at if you really try and practice and spend time doing it, there really isn't.

It all depends on you, and how committed you are to something as to whether you'll succeed at it or not.

So many people think drawing is something

that they inherit and just accept that and don't practice.

and of course when you don't practice or do something you'll never get good at it.

Like I said, I'm not someone that draws every day or puts a certain amount of hours every day into drawing.

I draw when I can. I think if I'd- well definitely if I'd studied

being better at drawing and practicing every chance that I got I would be a lot better

but I just don't have the time. I had school, I had College, now I have work to go to.

You don't have to draw all the time but certainly put as much time in as you can, and it will really pay off.

You might not be very good at it to start off with, and nobody is,

but you will never get worse by practicing. You will only ever get better.

So don't be so quick to give up.

Even if the improvement isn't something that happens before your very eyes it will be something that you

can look back on in the future and it's why you should keep all of your old artwork.

Even if you think it's awful. Keeping my old stuff is something that I have done

since I started drawing even if it never sees the light of day.

It's something that I keep around and I do look back on it from time to time

and it gives me motivation just seeing how bad I was at the time to how much better I am now.

And you know, it's something you should really do too.

Nobody is born being good at drawing and it's something every amazing artist

has worked years and years to get good at and anyone can do it.

You can do it as well, maybe I will be there myself someday!

Don't worry if you don't think you have a "natural talent"

for something like drawing, because in my opinion and experience

it's not talent that makes someone amazing at something.

It's hard work and practice and anyone can do it as long as they are committed to getting better and doing it.

Everyone starts in the same place, even the most amazing artists out there,

and talent is cheap, it doesn't count for very much.

People always say it like a compliment, but I don't really take it as one.

It makes it sound as if I have a natural advantage over someone else

when I put so many hundreds of hours of work

into what I've done so far and it gives me the impression

that they think I cheated somehow by having talent

and I really didn't! I don't have that natural talent.

I just started drawing love it, and carried on drawing because I love it.

Like take a look at anything I drew before 2010, you won't be saying that for long.

Overall, I'm really happy with how I've done in the last six years and I can't wait to see what the next six years bring.

Obviously I'll always regret not starting drawing until around the age of 16-ish

and if I'd started earlier I would have been a lot better by now,

but what happens happens and you are never too late to start.

Who knows, this may not be the last time we see the Wizard and if I draw him again

I'll make sure to record him, and maybe talk over the video again and give you updates

as to how I feel at that time and how I've improved etc.

as always the finished piece will be linked in the description

as well as the side-by-side draw it again meme comparison.

So, thank you for watching and maybe I'll see you again.

4 OTHER Ways You Can Play With Your Kong Dog Toy - Duration: 4:26.

- We all knows that Kong makes a great chew toy

for your pet.

You know, this funny shaped rubber object

is a great pastime for your dog.

But I'm going to tell you today about the four other things

that you can do with your Kong chew toy.

I'm Ken Steepe, and welcome back to McCann Dogs.

(guitar strums)

(high-pitched bark)

Now if this is the first time on the channel

and you consider your dog a family member,

then make sure you hit that subscribe button.

We publish new videos every single week

to help you spend some quality time with your

four-legged family member.

Now I mentioned off the top that I've got

four other uses for your Kong toy.

And the first one is a pretty straightforward one,

you may have heard it before.

But that's putting food inside of your Kong.

Now we've come up with a few different recipes

for Kong stuffing that we've posted in videos before,

and I'll post a link to it right here.

But that's the first other use.

I'm going to get to three more that are way cooler.

So the next game that we're going to talk about

follows putting in food inside of it.

And today I'm going to show you with one of our dogs,

Grand Slam, but you can food food inside of your Kong

and then you're going to hide it somewhere

around the house.

(intense music)

Now once I've hidden food inside the Kong,

we're just going to go around and we're going

to try and find it, and Slam's going to sniff

his way around the house,

and I'm going to help him as he searches around

for that Kong.

And once he's discovered it, I'm going to make

a really big deal.

And his real payout is not only playing with the Kong

and my reaction to it, but he gets to have

whatever the treat is that's inside.

Now the next one is almost playing a bit

of a shell game with your dog.

If you've got more than one Kong,

then this is a really fun game that you can play.

Now I'm just going to place a few pieces of kibble

underneath one of the Kong's here,

and I'm going to line them up in a row,

and I'm actually going to show you this game

with Hippy Shake, our toy poodle.

But I'm going to introduce Hippy to these three Kongs,

and she's going to sniff around a little bit.

And when she indicates on whichever Kong

she thinks the food is under, then I'm going

to reveal the food and make a big deal of it.

Now the next thing we're going to do

is great for you guys who don't have a super

toy-motivated dog.

It's going to animate this Kong toy,

but it's also going to create an engaging game

that you can play with your dog.

First, we're going to just find a piece of rope,

maybe a narrow piece of rope or if you've got

maybe some cutout material of some kind

that's thin enough to pass through the hole

on the top of this Kong.

You're going to pass it through.

And then we're going to find something like a washer,

or something we can tie off so that the rope

doesn't actually pull back through the Kong.

Then we're just going to tie off the two ends.

Now once you've got that securely tied,

you're just going to slide that washer

back through the bottom hole of the Kong.

Once it's secured, now you've got a toy

that you can animate.

You can make it really exciting,

dragging it around on the ground

until you're dog's really excited about it.

And when they've got that toy,

when they've got that Kong, you can turn it

into a bit of a tug game.

And for you guys that have that dog

that doesn't love toys, make sure you make it

exciting for them.

Make sure you're zooming that Kong around on the ground,

and once they've got it, make a really big deal.

Have lots of fun with them.

The next thing we're going to do with this Kong

is like a retrieve.

We're going to turn the Kong into a retrieve toy.

So we're going to throw that toy out,

and the great thing about the Kong is

it's such an unusual shape that, as it bounces around,

it can create an erratic motion and can really

activate your dog's chase drive.

Now if you have a dog that doesn't really love

to bring this Kong all the way back,

I've got a video for you.

We posted a video not that long ago

about teaching your dog to bring a ball

all the way back to your hand,

so in that video, you're going to show your dog

how to bring that toy all the way back to you.

That's going to work the same way for your Kong toy.

I hope you've enjoyed some of these new activities

that you can do with the Kong toy.

As I mentioned earlier, it's not just a one-trick pony.

You can do all kinds of fun things with it.

Now if this is your first time on the channel

and you consider your dog a family member,

make sure you hit that Subscribe button.

We publish new videos every single week to help you

spend some quality time with your four-legged

family member.

You see that video beside me?

That's a video YouTube thinks you'll want

to watch next from our channel.

On that note, I'm Ken.

Happy training.

"Can't feel your feet" - Bayern's Vidal fired up despite icy chill - Duration: 1:48.

The last training session at the Säbener Straße in February;

and the first in the extended break between last Saturday's Hertha clash and the trip to Freiburg on Sunday evening.

The only absentees were Manuel Neuer, Kingsley Coman and James, who once again

reported to the performance centre for sports rehab drills.

The players had plenty to discuss following their long weekend,

including the big freeze that currently has Germany in its grip:

It's crazy!

Training is tough and it's hard to get warm.

You can't feel your feet.

It's all a bit harder than normal, but that's the way it is.

We have to give it everything so that we're at 100% on the pitch.

Fortunately, and unlike in matches, I can at least

keep most of my body and even my face covered in training.

However, the worst of the extreme cold appears to be over

as the temperatures are set to rise daily from now on.

On Sunday, when the Reds face Freiburg, the forecast is for ten degrees Celsius

– 10 degrees above freezing no less.

Wednesday was also an extra-special occasion for one of the players who completed the hour and three quarter session:

Happy 28th birthday, Sebastian Rudy.

And legendary former FCB keeper and goalkeeping coach Sepp Maier is also a birthday boy today.

The Cat from Anzing turns 74,

and is celebrating at home with family and friends.

This video can change your life | Surah Mulk | Best Quran Video | سورة الملك - Duration: 8:28.

Blessed is He in whose hand is dominion, and He is over all things competent -

[He] who created death and life to test you [as to] which of you is best in deed -

and He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving -

Who created seven heavens in layers

You do not see in the creation of the Most Merciful any inconsistency

So return [your] vision [to the sky]; do you see any breaks?

Then return [your] vision twice again

[Your] vision will return to you humbled while it is fatigued

And We have certainly beautified the nearest heaven with stars

and have made [from] them what is thrown at the devils

and have prepared for them the punishment of the Blaze

And for those who disbelieved in their Lord is the punishment of Hell,

and wretched is the destination

When they are thrown into it, they hear from it a [dreadful] inhaling while it boils up

It almost bursts with rage

Every time a company is thrown into it, its keepers ask them,

its keepers ask them,

"Did there not come to you a warner?"

They will say," Yes, a warner had come to us,

but we denied

and said, ' Allah has not sent down anything.

You are not but in great error.'

And they will say, "If only we had been listening or reasoning,

we would not be among...

the companions of the Blaze."

And they will admit their sin,

so [it is] alienation for the companions of the Blaze

Indeed, those who fear their Lord unseen...

will have forgiveness and great reward

And conceal your speech or publicize it; 31 00:03:23,754 --> 00:03:31,221 indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts

Does He who created not know,

while He is the Subtle, the Acquainted?

It is He who made the earth tame for you -

so walk among its slopes

and eat of His provision -

and to Him is the resurrection

Do you feel secure that He who [holds authority] in the heaven...

would not cause the earth to swallow you and suddenly it would sway?

Do you feel secure that He who [holds authority] in the heaven...

would not send against you a storm of stones?

Then you would know how [severe] was My warning

And already had those before them denied,

and how [terrible] was My reproach

Do they not see the birds above them with wings outspread and [sometimes] folded in?

None holds them [aloft] except the Most Merciful

Indeed He is, of all things, Seeing

Or who is it that could be an army for you to aid you other than the Most Merciful?

The disbelievers are not but in delusion

Or who is it that could provide for you if He withheld His provision?

But they have persisted in insolence and aversion

Then is one who walks fallen on his face better guided

better guided...

or one who walks erect on a straight path?

ay, "It is He who has produced you

and made for you hearing and vision and hearts;

little are you grateful."

Say, " It is He who has multiplied you throughout the earth, and to Him you will be gathered."

And they say, "When is this promise (day of resurrection), ...

if you should be truthful?"

Say, "The knowledge is only with Allah,

and I am only a clear warner."

But when they see it approaching, the faces of those who disbelieve will be distressed,

and it will be said, "This is that for which you used to call."

Say, [O Muhammad], "Have you considered: whether Allah should cause my death and those with me or have mercy upon us,

who can protect the disbelievers from a painful punishment?"

Say, "He is the Most Merciful; we have believed in Him, and upon Him we have relied

And you will [come to] know who it is that is in clear error."

Say, "Have you considered: if your water was to become sunken [into the earth],

then who could bring you

water

flowing

Russia's sights are set on U.S. elections. Can states secure their voting systems in time? - Duration: 7:14.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Russia's government has set its sight on undermining American democracy

and attacking the U.S. election system.

The scope of the Russian efforts were recently outlined in indictments filed by special counsel

Robert Mueller.

The threat they pose has been confirmed by the heads of all the U.S. intelligence agencies.

Yesterday, the leader of the National Security Agency testified before the Senate that President

Trump has not granted any additional authorities to respond to this threat.

We get reaction now from David Becker, the founder of the Center for Election Innovation

and Research, and Denise Merrill.

She's the secretary of state in Connecticut.

She oversees the state's elections.

Welcome to both of you to the "NewsHour."

David Becker, to you first.

In sum, what did the Russians do to election systems in this country in 2016?

DAVID BECKER, Founder, Center for Election Innovation and Research: Well what, we know

from testimony from the intelligence community and elsewhere is that they attempted to probe

or scan several state systems, probably most notably voter registration database systems.

Almost all of those scans and probes were unsuccessful.

There was one instance in Illinois where they successfully accessed voter data, about 70,000

records or so, in June and July of 2016, but no records were altered or deleted.

We also know from the intelligence community and from multiple investigations all around

the country that there were no successful efforts to change votes or change vote totals

or tallies throughout the United States.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Denise Merrill, what about what happened in your state of Connecticut?

We know there was an effort made by the Russians there.

DENISE MERRILL, Connecticut Secretary of State: Yes, we were one of 21 states, apparently,

that were scanned at least by Russian I.P. addresses.

Again, our firewalls and our systems held.

They were trying to get into our voter registration database, which I think is similar to what

happened in the other states.

I think the good news is, they didn't get in.

And I think that's pretty much true in all the other states, with that one exception

that David mentioned.

JUDY WOODRUFF: And, Denise Merrill, staying with you, what evidence or belief do you have

right now that that they are continuing to try to do that in this 2018 midterm election

year?

DENISE MERRILL: Well, I do think the threat of Russian interference in our elections is

real.

I have become convinced of that, not only by what has happened, but what could happen.

I think, as we're all on alert now that there could be other attempts, I honestly think

that the biggest goal that they have at this point is to sow distrust in the American public

in their elections.

That may be the most dangerous thing of all.

JUDY WOODRUFF: David Becker, why are U.S. election systems vulnerable?

DAVID BECKER: Well, the more we rely upon technology, all technology has some vulnerabilities

to it.

And that's why it's important to have systems in place to double-check the technology.

So, for instance, paper ballots, auditable ballots that can be audited after the election

are very, very important.

The good news is that about 75 percent to 80 percent of Americans currently vote on

paper, and that number is increasing as Virginia has moved to all paper.

Pennsylvania is about to move to all paper.

And about 17 states are considering ways to improve their audits.

Systems like that are very, very important to make sure that we can trust the electronic

machines that are counting our votes.

But the good news is, most states are doing it, and even more states are moving in that

direction.

JUDY WOODRUFF: And, David Becker, just to clarify, this is a state-by-state situation,

right?

There's no federal election overlay, as I understand it.

DAVID BECKER: That's right.

In a major federal election, we not only don't hold one election or 50 elections.

We actually hold about nearly 10,000 elections, because all of the local jurisdictions are

actually running the elections.

That does give us some protection against hacking, because it's difficult to hack into

8,000 to 10,000 different systems.

But we do have to be vigilant.

Secretary Merrill is exactly right.

Russia is trying to do this.

The intelligence community is unanimous in that determination.

And their goal is probably not actually to change vote totals, but rather to get us all

to lose confidence in our own election system.

So it's very important that we all understand that the election officials, like Secretary

Merrill and her colleagues, are working very hard with the with federal agencies and other

agencies to secure the election systems, as they have never done before.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Well, Secretary Merrill, Denise Merrill, what is it that Connecticut needs?

What do you need in your state to be sure that there's not interference this year?

And how much support, what kind of support are you getting from the federal government

to make sure that that happens?

DENISE MERRILL: We, of course, as a state, already have a lot of equipment in place,

cyber-hygiene, the kinds of firewalls, I guess you would call them, against this sort of

thing.

But we are getting help now from the Department of Homeland Security.

They do have resources that can help, not enough of them, and not enough to go around.

So I think we could use more of that.

Some states are much further along than others as well.

And, of course, you know, there are some federal laws that came into play after the 2000 election,

which was the last time this sort of thing came up with the hanging chads and so forth.

And the Help America Vote Act did provide much of the funding that you're seeing in

place for the current election systems.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Right.

DENISE MERRILL: They're getting older.

So, at some point, we should look at replacing some of that.

JUDY WOODRUFF: And I think what we have seen in the news in the last few days is questions,

concerns about whether the federal government is taking this seriously enough, doing enough

to help the states.

And I just hear you say, Denise Merrill, that you're not getting all the help you need.

DENISE MERRILL: No.

And I'm not sure it's DHS' fault.

I think they are trying to be helpful, but they have limited resources.

And I was rather surprised, but not entirely surprised, to learn of the statements by the

FBI director, I guess it was yesterday or today, that he didn't have direct authority

to act to prevent some of this.

So, I am concerned about that.

I think the state officials, election officials all over the country are on alert.

We're ready, willing, and able to help.

We're very familiar with this risk assessment kind of thing.

We have been doing it for years in elections.

This is just a new venue and a new kind of a threat.

And I'm waiting for a direction from them.

I think they could be immensely helpful.

We're doing better.

We have a great communications system we're developing, but they could do more for us,

yes.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Right.

Very quickly, in just a few seconds, David Becker, what would be most important to help

states around the country harden up their systems, so they're not vulnerable?

DAVID BECKER: Well, there's unprecedented cooperation between the federal government

and the states and the local election officials, but the one thing they really need right now

is resources and funding.

There's no finish line in cyber-security.

When you improve cyber-security, the bad guys get better, too.

So, there needs to be better funding streams, both at the state legislative level and perhaps
