In 1995, Larry Page first met his Stanford campus tour guide, Sergey Brin.
When they first met they thought the other was obnoxious and opinionated, but
as you can imagine things took a turn and they became good friends later on.
The more they talked, the more they realized that they were really into the
Internet and they started working on their first search engine just out of
their college dorm room. The first project would take a search,
gather links from the world wide web, and give you a list of the most relevant
websites based off that search. They called it BackRub, and was quickly
changed to Google which comes from a math expression, that is the number one
followed by a hundred zeros. And that was a reflection of Larry Page and Sergey
Brin's intention with Google, they wanted to make all of this massive data
available to everyone in the world. In 1998, Google was born and Silicon Valley
quickly picked it up with $100,000 investment, and with that they were able
to move from the dorms to their first office, which was a garage in Menlo Park,
California. The property owner was Susan Wojcicki, who still works for Google
today as YouTube CEO. From there things started to grow rapidly and the garage
wasn't enough, so they moved to what is now called Googleplex in Mountain View,
California, and they treat their employees extremely well. In fact no part
of a Google office is allowed to be more than 150 feet away from some type of
food. Throughout the years Google started to add so many different products and
services that they decided to make a conglomerate in 2015 called Alphabet.
Today Google has over 3.5 billion searches per day, the company has over
73,000 employees, and while Google is worth about $100 billion,
its parent company Alphabet is worth about $600 billion. And
since 2010, Google and Alphabet have been acquiring an average of one company per
week. And that's how Google started. Thank you for watching my video. If you enjoyed
