Jaguar I-Pace will be the second official vehicle in Waymo's robot taxi fleet.
Currently Waymo is using a fleet of 600 self-driving Chrysler minivans.
They have racked up more than five million miles of testing on public roads.
The expansion of the Waymo's Driverless cars service comes despite fresh fears raised over

Trying to leave Cambodia - will Air Asia let me on the flight from Siem Reap airport? - Duration: 11:58.
All packed up and ready to go
left my room
farewell, last look around
it's very nice here
it's been a very pleasant stay
peaceful, quiet
this nice sort of verandah area to sit out on
which is great for the evenings and the mornings
and nice friendly helpful super friendly staff
helpful staff
but gotta go
it's time to leave Cambodia
and head to Bangkok
the big city of Asia
everybody has heard and knows about Bangkok
so let's spend our next five days there and see what it's really like
oh, interesting echo
okay, now I've got to pay my bill
not really
but I have to pay really don't I?
can I pay next time?
Can I pay when I come back next year?
See you no next time, thank you.
Short ride, 25 minutes from Siem Reap centre to the airport
and here I am about to leave Cambodia
It's been great though hasn't it? Haven't we had fun?
And here we are
check-in board
see when my flight is,
Where am I going? Bangkok I'm going to.
okay and kind of worrying I can't see my flight up there
oh there it is AK541 I was just looking in the wrong place
found it now
so they are check in three
so let's go and find check-in three
One of the things I really hate about airports checking in and queues
I'm with with Air Asia
one check-in desk, five flights
I know it's a small airport but the
queue is ridiculous
I got here early and
actually queued out of the airport door
I hope I left enough time
I've still got two hours
I just don't want to spend the whole two hours
sitting in a check-in queue
I'd rather go and get a coffee
and I've got toget through customs
After waiting for over an hour in the queue
to finally get to the front and check in
there was a complication
nothing's ever straightforward is it?
Now it's a bit complicated
but I originally bought a ticket from Siem Reap
to Hanoi, and it went via Bangkok
and I bought it with AirAsia
in one ticket and it's
I think I had three hours between the flights, no problem
about a week before I left on this trip
so maybe about inly two weeks ago now
they sent me an email saying that the schedule from Siem Reap had been changed
and now I'm going to be two hours later which meant that when I got to Bangkok
assuming there's no delays I would have one hour or less to transfer flight
may or may not happen
so I rejigged my trip a bit and I was going to
then I decided well what I'll do
I'll stay a few days in Bangkok instead
because I'm going to miss that connection
or wait something like eight hours for
the next flight in the airport I didn't fancy that
so I thought well I stayed a few
days in Bangkok then go on to Vietnam
so I didn't cancel the ticket because they don't
make it very easy to cancel or change
and when you're traveling on the road
you don't have good internet access
and all the information they want
it gets complicated
so all I did was then buy a new ticket
from Bangkok to Hanoi six days later
then I then proceeded to buy my leaving ticket from Vietnam because
as a UK passport holder I can stay 15 days or 14 nights in Vietnam
and get a visa on arrival or VOA
a Visa waiver is what it really is or a Visa exemption
but it then means I have to leave within 15 days
so I then calculated my 15 days after my six days in Bangkok and then bought my ticket
for leaving Ho Chi Min at that point
Now when I came to check in they wanted to
see my leaving ticket from Vietnam
bare in mind I'm in Cambodia and they
wouldn't check me in because it wasn't within 15 days of me arriving as far as
they were concerned in Vietnam because I hadn't cancelled the original ticket
even though I had a new ticket
and they said no we're responsible you can't you know
you've got to fly through you mustn't if you know so what happens if I miss the
flight you know because there's not enough time
now they go "well we'll just put you on the next one"
so I have to wait eight hours in the airport?
"pretty much yes"
so the guy who was checking me in said well
no I'm not supposed to let you on now
so I had a valid air ticket they just
wouldn't let me on because according to them I'd be arriving in Vietnam early
and I just wasn't you know what basic was gonna do is go to Bangkok on that
ticket and not make my connection stay in Thailand for six days and use the
other flight that I'd already got out of Bangkok to then be within my 15 days
they weren't happy with that
so they said wait till my supervisor comes and we'll
see if there's a way around it
that will be in another hour
okay so it's time to
go and get some coffee
have some water
and chill a little bit to see what happens
back to you in a little while
okay update on the ticket and flights saga
when I went back after my coffee, wandering around
and wondering what to do
shift changed new
people my ticket was already printed out
went up to the counter just handed
my passport and I said "oh I think they're my tickets"
and the lady picked them up and said "well what's the problem?"
and I said "I think there's a problem possibly with my connection"
"no don't worry" she says
"if you miss the fight they'll just put you on the next fight, here's your tickets thank you very much have a good flight"
so I took them and I ran
and I'm still on the wrong side
so now I'm gonna go through passport control
get to my check-in gate
before they make me stay
and we are through
through passport control through
security and now just a nice quiet comfortable waiting area
it's a lot more peaceful through here
my gate is just over there but it's all busy
right people waiting you know, for check in so I just found a nice quiet area
sit down here chill for a little while
and I've actually got
turning you around without wobbling you
quite a nice view outside
there's not a great deal going on
Siem Reap is quite a nice quiet Airport but
yeah it's nice to be able to see the outside from the
airport watch the planes coming and going
so I'll get back to you at check-in time

Ironic Wisdom: "An education will make him unfit to be a slave" - Duration: 19:44.
"An education will make him unfit to be a slave"
There's a powerfully nuanced and layered understanding of servitude that shackles itself to those words
Or so I'm here to suggest to you in these next few minutes. Now, the going standard for TED talks these days allows a speaker
10-20 minutes to make his case and indeed this sounds like a reasonable amount of time for a person with an idea that he feels
Is worth spreading whether virally or otherwise to make such a case so here goes?
I've taught courses and rhetorical analysis under the misnomer speech for 12 years nine of them at the largest undergraduate
Institution in the already large state of Texas and I do take this responsibility as seriously as I have anything in my life
Now the best footballers leave it all on the field the best endurance racers leave it all in the course
Perhaps the best chefs leave it all in the food, but the best teachers certainly leave it all in the classroom
reputation and
Perception so often serve as a black mirror for reality
still I would confidently appeal to any former student of mine for an honest assessment of my efforts thus far as
Any person or group of people in a position of authority?
Should always be confident enough to both welcome and encourage public criticism for example
I offer the following self criticism
I enjoy a healthy amount of academic freedom at the front of a college classroom yet
I often feel a strange
obligation to teach the Canon
For those who aren't familiar with this term the Canon serves as a collection of the favorite speeches and books of teachers
Who've come before us and?
It took me a great deal of honest
Introspection to recognize my own. Hypocrisy here as
I've found that I can quite easily lie myself into believing that someone else's favorite books are mine, too. I
Can do the same with speeches with movies with foods with fashion trends and all the rest
now this kind of self-deception can be a massive opportunity cost for otherwise impassioned teachers and
Perhaps some of you can relate
Now my formal education featured many dispassionate teachers
And I used to go out of my way to make teachers hate their jobs as much as they seemed to want to
But now with more wisdom I wonder how many of them were dispassionate because they were teachers
Versus those who were simply dispassionate about what they were teaching
The students I've had the privilege of learning with over the past decade have made me a better person
For it and as all engaged teachers. Do I have documented stories that are truly stranger than fiction?
And over the past few years. I've decided that my cannon is long overdue for an update for example if you dare
imagine a woman introducing herself to a roomful of
25 strangers telling the story of her journey across the earth to find a safer Haven here in Dallas
fleeing a court a culture that forced her into a mutilation of her genitals a
Practice at the World Health Organization estimates over 95 percent of women in countries such as Egypt and Somalia have had to endure
Now there have been seven of these stories in my classes thus far in
The front of a college classroom has been a space that these brave women deemed safe enough to condemn the barbarism from which they
Heroically fled this is quite the Odyssey
I would imagine and as the son of a weakened duit liberal feminist single mother I've listened to these
horrifyingly inspiring personal narratives
made starkly aware of my own privileged position in a world this chaotic and
Many stories that I have documented belong in any reasonable person's Canon as they will always enjoy a safe space in my own
Now my college campus is a graveyard, and I'm not just talking about the free speech area
I mean a literal one as the motley family cemetery reminds me each workday
how fortunate I truly am to be able to whistle past the graveyard gates and
as any lover of dead poet's would I make it my goal to help people find their voices a
Success in my case is watching students experience a Renaissance
Which is a renewed desire to seize the day in their own unique ways and that makes my work feel worthwhile?
Now that I'm older I take more time to reflect and wonder how many of these
Rediscovered voices get quickly muted after graduation by the predictable loudness of a stressful life
So welcome to the Eastfield college free speech area
Now many of my colleagues are aware that I do not mind taking the lead or starting a flash mob
And I plan to start using this area frequently, and I hope you will consider joining me
students faculty professional support staff administration cleaning crew members members of the local community
You all have something worth sharing publicly
Now coming from an anxious introvert who forces myself to be the opposite
I understand that it may take many of you years of struggle to do this
But I'll ask you to bracket for a moment whatever
Anxieties you may feel and consider that the juice in this space may be well worth the squeeze
Now I say this having spent 12 years watching adults myself included self actualized
This substantive lesson is one that I am most certainly privileged to learn more concretely each semester
Now I love being an educator and it has come to my attention
recently that my discipline poorly named speech is being strongly considered for a de facto removal from the core curriculum a
Core curriculum for those of you who don't know is more commonly referred to as the basics
it's the Canon of courses that lawmakers decide should be required to complete in order to graduate with a degree and
That's fine as I relish the opportunity to market our discipline in a variety of ways
Now I've worked a non profit student service for 17 years
And I've taught students ranging from 5 to 82 years of age
And I started my career working as an advisor for a scholarship that did not discriminate on behalf of a person citizenship
And I'll ask you to trust me when I assure you that I've listened to thousands of people's dreams at this point
Perhaps some of you can relate and at this juncture in my career
I cannot think of a better way to continue to help people in my local community
Find their voices than to practice public in this free speech area what I preached privately in the classroom
now at Eastfield college
we brand ourselves in many ways a
Family is one such label now worth noting here is I've found that families work best when they learn to argue
Honestly and publicly the hive is another label
We proudly give ourselves also worth noting here hives are mostly made up of worker bees now each workday morning
I transition from a 6 to 8 hour extra-dimensional trance to the best wet willy ever from my best friend stuff
Stuff and I have a walking route down by the Trinity River in one of Dallas's most awesome green spaces and so it's nearly impossible
For my days not to begin with a smile, and I was born across the street from South Oak Cliff high school
I grew up around candy houses known to many today as trap houses drive-by shootings gang turf wars
helicopters regularly shining spotlights on our bedroom windows and
Constant sirens you learn to adapt to your environment, so these days I cannot forget how charmed of a life
I currently live and my body's been around the Sun 38 times
And it's difficult for me to imagine how my mother managed all of the stresses
She had at 38 and it must have been a private hell for any parent struggling
Unsuccessfully to shield one's offspring from life's harshest and most
disgusting realities
But like a good parent
She insisted that an education was the way out and this can be a hard sell to a five-year-old
Especially when your kindergarten class goes through 9 teachers in one year, and we dealt with issues including
But not exclusive to beer bottles found in the trash can teachers caught having sex in the classroom lockouts
Firings all in one year
Welcome to school in my case
I was fortunate to have a mom who cared enough to get me out of there the next year
And I should note here that
she had to physically threaten the principal to release my records so that I could attend a different school out of our district and
She likely won't like me saying that publicly but my mom didn't play when it came to her child's education
respect do I
Should also add that I was privileged enough to have our
Received a solid educational foundation in the heart of one of the poorest neighborhoods in the United States
At a preschool, which has now moved from its original home in the Nolan Estes Plaza called Jimmy Tyler
Brashear where my mom lied about my age at two to get me in
Now I say all of this because it informs my current view of how valuable a quality education
Truly is and I now deem myself
educated only to the extent that I can keep the experiences of others in the calculus of my thoughts and behaviors and
It's incredibly hard to do this and I fail often
But that's okay because I've found that there are helpful people out there when I present myself
Honestly, so let's get honest about some stuff
each morning stuff
And I look up at the massive digital billboard that
overlooks one of the busiest highway mix masters and one of the richest cities on the planet to read the marketing slogan higher
education that actually gets you hired
marketing often lends itself to cuteness
Now this is the marketing slogan for the largest undergraduate
Institution in the state of Texas and so I have to understand my students expectations of me to get them hired
fair play right
But what about the students who aren't pursuing an education?
Merely to get hired
What about those who have a job and want to learn something for personal growth?
What about the entrepreneur who wants to start our own business and work for herself?
What about the stay-at-home parent who wants to pursue a formal education simply to set a positive example for her child?
What about those who want to spend their lives volunteering for organizations all around the world?
What about the person who recently got a new camera and wants to take a class to learn how to use it?
What about the person with a deaf child who unlike the majority of parents of deaf children?
Who expect their kids to learn how to read lips actually wants to take a sign language class?
To be able to communicate with his son
What about the couple who wants to take a beginning Spanish class because they live in Texas?
And they simply want to learn to communicate with their
now these are just a few examples from my experiences over the past 17 years as both an academic advisor and
As an educator and I have far more to further bolster this point and so do thousands of other educators
So I stand here today to speak out on behalf of Education
When Frederick Douglass's Kaptur came home to find his wife teaching him how to read he became infuriated
the wife was no doubt aware of how loudly this caged bird could sing if given the platform an
Education will make him unfit to be a slave Douglass recalls overhearing and his powerful
Personal narrative that again, I suggest belongs and any reasonable person's cannon
now I was 13 in the mid 1990s and there was a massive push for ethnic diversity in both schools and in workplaces and
a local diversity recruiter was tasked with visiting Dallas Public Schools to fetch top performing brown and black skin students
Now the schools. I applied to were labeled as college preparatory and they currently charged 30,000 dollars each year for tuition
These schools started in pre-k and they go to 12th grade and that's nearly four hundred
thousand dollars for a child's formal education
This is a lot of money and strongly suggests that an education is truly highly valuable
Now my life certainly changed after I was admitted to this different world in
eighth grade
The boys club van and the dart bus transported me to a massive farmland campus complete with peacocks
Windmills the number one debate team in the nation and the most part
that was invaluable for me was positive peer pressure I
Recall being fascinated by the fact that people actually pushed each other to do better in school
With of course the usual adolescent complications along the way
But if this doesn't sound like the twilight zone to some of you yet perhaps these two factoids will help
one in the campus's history no graduate ever had a child before graduating and
To the end of the year boasts a matriculation list detailing each graduates elite University alongside his name
Yale Harvard, Columbia
Dartmouth Penn Duke
Princeton Stanford Wake Forest they're all there and in my case it was Vanderbilt University in Nashville
Tennessee now people pushed each other to be smarter here to have healthier arguments to cultivate a lifelong
intellectual curiosity
This was a different kind of hive than I had been used to and incidentally our mascot was the Hornet and
Each year, I still have lunch with the former Admissions Director at the time that I was recruited
His name is Tom Perryman
And he's easily one of the most genuinely
Passionate educators that I've ever had the privilege of meeting and I will always consider him to be a mentor
the only reason we ever met is
because of my own teenaged ignorance
And I still recall the essay prompt for the Green Hill school admissions exam
Who is the most important historical figure in your opinion and why?
Now I remember being terrified because I didn't know what the term historical figure meant
and after staring at the paper for several minutes pretending to think I
Finally worked up the nerve to ask the kids sitting next to me, and he looked at me like I was from another planet
someone from history he said
Does it have to be a real person? I whispered
I
Wasn't kidding either?
And I remember him shaking his head in a way that let me know that if I was lucky enough to be accepted
I'd be punching up for a long while I
Looked at his paper and remember fixating on his first word
essentially
For me smart started there in that moment, and I put my pen on the paper
And I wrote a quote walk the streets my forefathers walk climb the trees my forefathers hung from
This hauntingly beautiful piece of musical poetry was written by a lyricist named speech
In a song called tennessee from a band that was popular at the time Arrested Development, and this quote headline a choppy
adolescent Spike Lee joint inspired essay about my hero at the time Malcolm X
Another order who belongs firmly in any respectable cannon by the way
now Malcolm X's legacy often gets
Zoomed by a symbol and as many people were sporting this symbol at the time on hats and t-shirts and posters
also by the line by any means necessary
And by a line beautifully delivered via Denzel, Washington in his prime. We didn't land on, Plymouth Rock, Plymouth Rock landed on us
Now I was moved by the power of those words
moved enough to make Malcolm Malcolm X history's most important historical figure after 13 years of heroes to choose from
But truthfully I was probably just man crushing on Denzel at the time more than anything
But 25 years later
Tom and I can still laugh about this first encounter on paper
and I've used a quarter of a century sense to find importance in those words and
actions of countless historical figures both real and fictional
Now this may all sound like a tangent to you
but that confusing essay prompt provided me with an education that will forever make me unfit to be a slave I
Might have been just another worker be
Someone who believes that the point of higher education is simply to get hired
And I see this slogan billboard it on the same dart bus routes
I used to ride and again flashing on the marquee at the entrance every single time
I turn in to campus and again on every piece of marketing swag that we have
It's a slogan that I try
unsuccessfully to unlearn each day a
Higher education is meant to challenge adults
many of whom have been grossly underprepared and
Under-resourced by a fledgling public school system and see College merely as the 13th grade
But rather a higher education is meant to challenge them with project-based learning
teaches them how to practice intellectual self defense and how to ask better questions of themselves of each other and
especially of authority
a higher education should empower adults to challenge broken systems
nonsense policies and ideas
Now my own discipline emphasizes that silence can be golden when you learn to listen to listen
Empathically to listen critically to listen
comprehensively and to listen
Appreciatively, and the best listeners are those that know how to adapt their listening style to the audience and to the situation
Now listening is most important and hardest when you disagree with someone or some thing and I personally
Often find it hard to listen when clear
communication takes a backseat to stuff like Robert's Rules of Order or Old English legalese and other nonsense ax
Intended to allow people to talk in secret code
Now it's my hope that you'll join me in this area
Whenever you feel motivated to do so and I'll certainly be here to help in any way that I can
For the past 12 years. I have given the same speech on the last day of class
encouraging students to remain intellectually curious to pursue their goals
Creatively and passionately and to keep me posted on any developments in their lives
And I always emphasize the first correction that was made to the US Constitution
Congress shall make no law abridging freedom of speech
Free speech is for all speech especially the speech that offends you and especially the speech that offends me
Whether or not free speech needs any ethical limitations is always up for debate in the mind of any educated person
So free your voice
Here and free your mind with a higher education and made this space always remain safe
For you to share with us what you learn along the way

Hannah Glasse ~ Fast Facts You will Like about Cookery Writer Hannah Glasse. - Duration: 3:58.
English cookery essayist Hannah Glasse (1708-1770) was conceived 310 years prior today, a commemoration
recognized in the most recent Google Doodle.
Glasse stays best known for her 1747 formula accumulation The Art of Cookery Made Plain
and Easy, which was distributed secretly and remained a smash hit for a century.
One of the work's key advancements was the writer's vow to democratize the matter of
cookery, promising in an initial note to perusers that the dialect contained inside was planned
with the goal that household hirelings could comprehend it.
"I will probably teach the lower Sort", she composed, communicating an inclination for
"bits of bacon" over "expansive Lardoons" so as not to confound the regular peruser,
a guarantee to comprehensive, majority rule dialect George Orwell may have affirmed of.
"The immense Cooks have such a high method for communicating, that poor people Girls
are at a Loss to comprehend what they mean," she said.
This simple approach looked to demystify the culinary expressions, scattering the myth
that gourmet cookery was the select safeguard of volatile mainland gourmet experts and could
rather be endeavored with certainty inside the limits of the conventional British home,
making ready for the well known cooks that took after.
Everybody from Mrs Beeton and Fanny Craddock to Delia Smith, Jamie Oliver and Mary Berry
owe an obligation to this unobtrusive and unassuming writer - Hannah Glasse demonstrating
Dr Johnson's questions that a lady could have composed such a work significantly off-base.
The ubiquity of her book, which was hit by a few allegations of plagiary, was with the
end goal that its notoriety achieved the New World and survived the tolerating against
British feeling of the American War of Independence: Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and George
Washington were altogether said to possess duplicates.
Glasse's culinary advancements incorporated the primary recorded utilization of jam in
play and the main notices of "Hamburgh wieners" and piccalilli.
It even included one of the principal English dialect formulas for making "currey the Indian
way".
While the creator was pretentious of the contemporary British veneration for French food, she harbored
no partiality:
"I have to be sure given some of my Dishes French Names to recognize them, since they
are known by those names; And where there is incredible Variety of Dishes, and a vast
Table to cover, so there must be Variety of Names for them; and it makes a difference
not whether they be called by a French, Dutch, or English Name, so they are great, and finished
with as meager Expence as the Dish will permit of."
Glasse was in no way, shape or form hesitant to explore different avenues regarding outlandish
fixings and saw the open doors worldwide exchange spoke to for the British kitchen, her book
reckoning the approach of Nigella Lawson and "combination cooking", pushing the utilization
of cinnamon, cardamon, cocoa, pistachios, nutmeg, truffles, ambergris, "Naples scones"
and, er, warblers (in a perfect world presented with bread sauce).
However, she esteemed economy as much as straightforwardness, stressing that, "a few Things [are] so indulgent,
that it would be just about a Shame to make Use of them, when a Dish can be made full
as great, or better, without them."
For additional on Hannah Glasse and her commitment to the British feasting table, you can't improve
the situation than read The Independent's own particular Harry Cockburn, that Wordsworth
of sustenance composing, on the "profound puffy hollows and plated crenellations" of
the Yorkshire pudding and her undying formula for the "boggling primary course merangue."

RED CARPET CHALLENGE: LOBBY HERO with Michael Cera, Aaron Tveit, Will Roland and more! - Duration: 2:29.
--What's up everybody? My name is Matt Rodin, here for Broadway.com at the opening
night of Lobby Hero on the Broadway, and tonight I will not be asking anyone
real questions because we are playing a game that I like to call Do You Copy?
--I'm gonna give you police codes. --Oh sh--
Okay. --That's the reaction I wanted.
--I'm a black man. I don't know nothing about no police codes, but we gonna play
all right. Let's go.
--Ten-four. --Yes.
--Got it. --Got it.
--Sure. -- I got you.
--There's been a baby snatching.
--There's a really new police officer who's over ten feet tall,
and --So tall.
--And he's so tall.
--There's a guy in a truck, and he's barreling down the highway,
--Fast. --Really
fast. --Really fast.
--Ten kids with only four eyes between them.
--11--99 -- The price of a donut?
--Something costs $11.99?
--What this panini is going to cost you.
--The price of a Hostess
cupcake, but like a four pack. --It's a code. Everyone thinks it's really really deep
but it's actually when 11 of the officers need to go get 99 cent Slurpies.
--I've gotta go to the bathroom. --Oh we got a problem.
--We've got somebody who's drunk
and creating quite noise out here...
--There's been a baby snatching. --Code
purple is when there's a really fierce police officer, who is actually a fierce
singer, and she's supposed to belt out "I'm Here" from Color Purple.
--Come on, now!
--Anastasia on Broadway. --Things are fabulous!
--Something about the Tellie Tubbues maybe?
--I'll take that. --It has something to do with like
sexual. There it must be like a weird position that somebody got into, oh, that's
gross. --There's been a baby snatching.
--Yes. --Her underwear is not matching. Her
bra and panties are off. They are off. --10:20 means I have to go to the bathroom.
--Got to go to the bathroom.
Urgent. --Gotta go.
--That's like a bathroom break?
--It's more like a six-year-old has been
snatched. --Yeah
--That's my vision. --That's like 10-4, but much better.
--Much better. --Much healthier
--Code N
--No. --For nachos because cops eat.
--Code N. We're not supposed to say that.
--What they say when they're running out
of mayonnaise. --Next to Normal? I'm just that's a terrible
Broadway answer. --I mean...
-- 484 means we've already seen this
episode on Law and Order. DUN DUN.
--My bank balance when I was like I graduated from
college. --Isn't that your car payment for the mini
cooper? --There you go.
--I got you girl.
--Oh that's not murder that's 187. I know that.
--It got
dark very very quickly.
--Clearly, come on, everybody knows that that is. A
baby snatching.

I still will not give you my word... - Duration: 20:42.
= Francesca Findabair =
= checked one more time that the entire courtyard was thoroughly isolated from the rest of the palace by a protective field =
= which hid it from view and muffled its sounds =
= She lit three black candles planted in candlesticks equipped with parabolic mirrors =
= The candlesticks stood at points marked out by a circular mosaic pavement depicting the eight signs of Vicca =
= the elven zodiac, on the symbols indicating Belleteyn, Lammas and Yule =
= Inside the zodiac circle, the mosaic formed another, smaller circle, dotted with magic symbols and enclosing a pentagram =
= Francesca placed small, iron tripods on three symbols of the smaller circle, and then on each of them she carefully mounted three crystals =
= The cut of the crystals' bases corresponded to the form of the tripods' tops =
= which meant their placement could be nothing other than precise =
= but even so Francesca checked everything several times =
= She didn't want to leave anything to chance =
= A fountain was trickling nearby, the water gushing from a marble jug held by a marble naiad =
= It fell into the pool in four streams and made the water lilies, between which goldfish darted, quiver =
= Francesca opened a jewellery case, removed a small, waxy jade figurine from it =
= and placed it precisely at the centre of the pentagram =
= She withdrew, glanced once again at the grimoire lying on a table =
= took a deep breath, raised her hands and chanted a spell =
= The candles burst into bright flame, the crystals' facets lit up and sparkled with streaks of light =
= Those streaks of light shot towards the figurine, which immediately changed colour =
= from green to gold, and a moment later became transparent =
= The air shimmered with magical energy, which struck against the protective field =
= Sparks flew from one of the candles, shadows played on the floor =
= the mosaic came alive and the shapes in it transformed =
= Francesca did not lower her hands or interrupt the incantation =
= The statuette grew at lightning speed, pulsating and throbbing, its structure and shape changing like a cloud of smoke crawling across the floor =
= The light shining from the crystals pierced the air; movement and congealing matter appeared in the streams of light =
= A moment later a human body suddenly manifested in the centre of the magical circles =
= It was the figure of a black-haired woman, lying inertly on the floor =
= he candles bloomed with ribbons of smoke and the crystals went out =
= Francesca lowered her arms, relaxed her fingers and wiped the sweat from her forehead =
= The black-haired woman on the floor curled up in a ball and began to scream =
What is your name?
= Francesca asked in a breathy voice =
= The woman convulsed and howled, both hands clutching her belly =
What is your name?
Ye . . .
Yennef . . .
Yennefeerrr!!!
Aaaaaagh . . .
= The elf sighed with relief =
= The woman continued to squirm and howl, banging her fists against the floor and retching =
= Francesca waited patiently =
= And calmly =
= The woman – a moment earlier a jade figurine – was suffering, that was obvious =
= And normal =
= But her mind was undamaged =
Well, Yennefer
= she said after a long pause, interrupting the groans =
That ought to do, oughtn't it?
= Yennefer raised herself onto her hands and knees with obvious effort, wiped her nose with her wrist and looked around vacantly =
= Her gaze flitted over Francesca, as though the she-elf wasn't even in the courtyard =
= then came to rest – and brightened – at the sight of the fountain gushing water =
= Having crawled up to it with immense difficulty =
= Yennefer hauled herself over the lip and flopped into the pool with a splash =
= She choked, began to splutter, cough and spit =
= until finally, parting the water lilies, she waded to the marble naiad =
= and sat down, leaning back against the pedestal of the statue =
= The water came up to her breasts =
Francesca . . .
= she mumbled, touching the obsidian star hanging from her neck and looking at the she-elf with a slightly clearer gaze =
It's you . . .
It's me
What do you recall?
You packed me up . . .
Hell's teeth, you packed me up, didn't you!
I packed you up and then unpacked you
What do you recall?
Garstang . . .
Elves
Ciri
You
And the fifty tons suddenly landing on my head . . .
Now I know what it was
Artefact compression . . .
Your memory's working
Good
= Yennefer lowered her head and looked between her thighs, over which goldfish were darting =
The water in the pool will need changing, Enid
= she mumbled =
I just peed in it
No matter
= Francesca smiled =
But just see if there's any blood in the water
Compression has been known to damage the kidneys
Only the kidneys?
= Yennefer said, taking a cautious breath =
I don't think there's a single undamaged organ in my body . . .
At least that's how I feel
Hell's teeth, Enid, I really don't know what I did to deserve this . . .
Get out of the pool
No
I like it here
I know
It's called dehydration
Degradation
Depredation!
Why did you do it to me?
Get out, Yennefer
= The sorceress stood up with difficulty, holding onto the marble naiad with both hands =
= She shook off the water lilies, with a sharp tug tore away her dripping dress and stood naked before the fountain, under the gushing streams =
= After rinsing herself down and drinking deeply, she stepped out of the pool, sat down on the edge, wrung out her hair and looked around =
Where am I?
In Dol Blathanna
= Yennefer wiped her nose =
Do the hostilities on Thanedd continue?
No
= They ended =
= a month and a half ago =
I must have wronged you greatly
= Yennefer said a moment later =
I must really have got under your skin, Enid
But you can consider us even
You've exacted a full revenge, if a little too sadistic
Couldn't you have just cut my throat?
Don't talk nonsense
= the elf said, making a face =
I packed you up and got you out of Garstang to save your life
We'll come back to that, but a little later
Here, have this towel
And this sheet
You'll get a new dress after you've bathed – in a suitable place, in a tub full of warm water
You've done enough damage to my goldfish
= Ida Emean and Francesca were drinking wine =
= Yennefer was drinking sugar water and carrot juice =
= In huge quantities =
To sum up
= she said, after hearing Francesca's account =
Nilfgaard has defeated Lyria
in an alliance with Kaedwen has dismantled Aedirn, burnt down Vengerberg
subjugated Verden, and is crushing Brugge and Sodden at this very moment
Vilgefortz has disappeared without a trace
Tissaia de Vries has committed suicide, and you've become queen of the Valley of Flowers
Imperator Emhyr has rewarded you with a crown and sceptre in exchange for my Ciri, whom he was hunting for so long, and whom he now has in his power and is using as he sees fit
You packed me up and have kept me in a box as a jade statuette for a month and a half
And no doubt expect me to thank you for it
It would be polite
= Francesca Findabair replied coldly =
On Thanedd there was a certain Rience
who had made it a point of honour to submit you to a slow and cruel death
and Vilgefortz offered to expedite it
Rience pursued you all over Garstang
But he didn't find you, because you were already a jade figurine safe in my cleavage
And I was that figurine for forty-seven days
Yes
While I, if asked, could always reply that Yennefer of Vengerberg was not in Dol Blathanna
Because the question referred to Yennefer, not a statuette
What changed to induce you finally to unpack me?
A great deal changed
I shall explain forthwith
First explain something else to me:
the Witcher was also on Thanedd
Geralt
Remember, I introduced him to you in Aretuza
How is he?
Please remain calm
He's alive
I am calm
Tell me, Enid
In the space of an hour
= Francesca said =
your Witcher did more than some manage in their entire lives
Put succinctly:
he broke Dijkstra's leg
beheaded Artaud Terranova and slew ten Scoia'tael
Oh
I almost forgot:
he also aroused Keira Metz's unhealthy passions
Dreadful
= Yennefer said with a grimace =
But Keira will have got over it by now, I imagine
I hope she doesn't hold a grudge against him
The fact that he didn't fuck her after inflaming her desire certainly resulted from lack of time, not lack of respect
Please put her mind at ease for me
You'll have the chance to do that yourself
= the Daisy of the Valleys said coldly =
And quite soon
Let's go back, though, to the issues about which you are lamely feigning indifference
Your Witcher
was so fervid in his defence of Ciri
that he acted very rashly
He attacked Vilgefortz
And Vilgefortz gave him a sound thrashing
The fact that he didn't kill him certainly resulted from lack of time, not lack of effort
Well?
Are you still going to pretend you don't care?
No
= Yennefer said, her grimace no longer expressing scorn =
No, Enid
I do care
Some people will soon learn how much
You can take my word for it
= Francesca was no more concerned by Yennefer's threat than she had been by her mockery =
Triss Merigold teleported what was left of the Witcher to Brokilon
= she stated =
As far as I know, the dryads are still healing him
He is said to be recovering now, but it would be better if he didn't venture out of the forest
He's being tracked by Dijkstra's spies and the military intelligence services of all the kings
So are you, for that matter
What did I do to deserve such attention?
I didn't break anything of Dijkstra's . . .
Oh, keep quiet and let me guess
I vanished without a trace from Thanedd
No one suspects I ended up in your pocket, shrunken down and packed up
Everybody is convinced I escaped to Nilfgaard with my fellow conspirators
Everybody apart from the real conspirators, naturally, but they won't be correcting that error
For a war is raging, and disinformation is a weapon whose blade must always be kept sharp
And now, forty-seven days later, comes your moment to use that weapon
My house in Vengerberg is burnt to the ground, and I'm being hunted
There's nothing left to do but join a Scoia'tael commando
Or join the fight for the elves' freedom in some other way
= Yennefer sipped her carrot juice, and stared into the eyes of Ida Emean aep Sivney, who still remained peaceful and silent =
Well, Mistress Ida
free lady of the Aen Seidhe from the Blue Mountains, have I correctly guessed what's in store for me?
Why are you so tight-lipped?
Because I, Mistress Yennefer
= the red-headed she-elf answered =
say nothing when I have nothing sensible to say
It's always better than to make unfounded speculations and disguise one's anxiety with idle talk
Enid, get to the point
Tell Mistress Yennefer what this is all about
You have my undivided attention
= Yennefer said, touching the obsidian star hanging from its velvet ribbon =
Speak, Francesca
= The Daisy of the Valleys rested her chin on her interlocked hands =
Today
= she announced =
is the second night of the full moon
In a short while, we shall be teleporting to Montecalvo Castle, the seat of Philippa Eilhart
We shall be taking part in a session of an organisation that ought to interest you
After all, you were always of the opinion that magic represents the utmost value
superior to all disputes, conflicts, political choices, personal interests, grudges, sentiments and animosities
It will no doubt gladden you to hear that not long ago the foundations of an institution were laid down
Something like a secret lodge
brought into being exclusively to defend the interests of magic
meant to ensure that magic occupies the place it deserves in the hierarchy of the world
Exercising my privilege to recommend new members to this lodge
I took the liberty of proposing two candidates:
Ida Emean aep Sivney and you
What an unexpected honour
= Yennefer sneered =
From magical oblivion straight to a secret, elite and omnipotent lodge, which stands above personal grudges and resentments
But am I suitable?
Will I find sufficient strength of character to rid myself of my grudges against the people who took Ciri from me
cruelly beat a man who is dear to me, and packed—
I am certain
= the she-elf interrupted =
that you will find sufficient strength of character, Yennefer
I know you and know you are not lacking in strength of that kind
Neither are you lacking in ambition
which ought to dispel your doubts about the honour and the advancement which has come your way
If you want, though, I'll tell you frankly:
I'm recommending you to the lodge, because I consider you a person who deserves it and who may render the cause a significant service
Thank you
= Yennefer responded, the scornful smirk in no hurry to disappear from her lips =
Thank you, Enid
I truly feel the ambition, hubris and self-adoration filling me up
I'm ready to explode at any moment
And that's before I even begin wondering why you aren't recommending one more elf from Dol Blathanna or a she-elf from the Blue Mountains instead of me
You will find out why in Montecalvo
= Francesca replied coldly =
I'd rather find out now
Tell her
= Ida Emean muttered =
It's because of Ciri
= Francesca said after a moment's thought, raising her inscrutable eyes towards Yennefer =
The lodge is interested in her, and no one knows the girl as well as you
You'll learn the rest when we get there
Agreed
= Yennefer said, vigorously scratching a shoulder blade =
= Her skin, dried out by the compression, was still itching intolerably =
Now tell me the names of the other members
Apart from you and Philippa
Margarita Laux-Antille, Triss Merigold and Keira Metz
Sheala de Tancarville of Kovir
Sabrina Glevissig
And two sorceresses from Nilfgaard
An international women's republic?
Let's say
They must still think I'm an accomplice of Vilgefortz
Will they accept me?
They accepted me
The rest I leave to you
You will be asked to give an account of your relationship with Ciri
From the very beginning, which – thanks to your witcher – was fifteen years ago in Cintra
and right up until the events of a month and a half ago
Frankness and honesty will be absolutely paramount
And will confirm your loyalty to the lodge
Who said there's anything to confirm?
Isn't it too early to talk of loyalty?
I'm not even familiar with the statute or programme of this new institution . . .
Yennefer
= the she-elf interjected, frowning slightly =
I'm recommending you to the lodge
But I have no intention of forcing you to do anything
Particularly not to be loyal
You have a choice
I think I know what it is
And you would be right
But it is still a free choice
Speaking for myself, I still heartily encourage you to choose the lodge
Trust me
by doing so you'll be helping Ciri much more effectively than by plunging headlong into a whirl of events
which, I'm guessing, you would love to do
Ciri's life is in danger
Only our combined efforts can save her
When you have heard what is said in Montecalvo, you'll realise I was speaking the truth . . .
Yennefer, I don't like the gleam in your eyes
Give me your word you will not try to escape
No
= Yennefer shook her head, covering the star on the velvet ribbon with her hand =
No, I will not, Francesca
I must warn you, my dear
All Montecalvo's stationary portals have a distorting blockade
Anyone who tries to enter or leave without Philippa's permission will end up in a dungeon lined with dimeritium
You'll be unable to open your own teleportal without the appropriate components
I don't want to confiscate your star, because you have to be in full possession of your faculties
But if you try any tricks . . .
Yennefer
I cannot allow—
The lodge won't allow you to launch an insane, one-woman attempt to rescue Ciri and seek vengeance
I still have your matrix
and the spell's algorithm
I'll shrink you and pack you into a jade statuette again
For several months this time
Or years, if necessary
Thank you for the warning
but I STILL WILL NOT GIVE YOU MY WORD

#Real Madrid will go in for Chelsea star Eden Hazard instead of Mohamed Salah this summer - Duration: 2:35.
Real Madrid will go in for Chelsea star Eden Hazard instead of Mohamed Salah this summer
REAL MADRID will go for Chelseas Eden Hazard instead of Liverpool forward Mo Salah this summer, according to reports.
SunSport told you how Egyptian Salah, 25, is a world-record £200million target of Real, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
Real Madrid will reportedly go for Eden Hazard over Mo Salah.
But now it appears Belgium playmaker Hazard, 27, is the preferred choice, according to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.
He says that if Los Blancos make a move for either player then they will prioritise the Stamford Bridge sensation because the Premier Leagues top scorer is not seen as a Galactico.
Balague said: Salah is a difficult one because Real Madrid have no mention of him as a candidate to be a Galactico.
You can think there is a market in Egypt and he is a star of the Premier League.
Mo Salah does not fit the Galactico mould, according to Guillem Balague.
Zinedine Zidane is eyeing Eden Hazard.
He has a lot of things to go for him.
But if they get Hazard they wont need Salah.
TUCH OF CLASS Thomas Tuchel holds talks with Chelsea.
It seems like they wouldnt put that much money into Salah.
Hazard recently reiterated his desire to remain in Antonio Contes side - even if the Italian leaves at the end of the season.
The Belgian insists he is happy at Chelsea.
He said: After the World Cup I will go on holiday.
I have two years left on my contract with Chelsea.
Im still happy at Chelsea..
Whos better: Man City star Kevin De Bruyne or Chelsea ace Eden Hazard?.

Ex Motley Fool Analyst Reveals Why Asia Will Breed THE Most Millionaire Investors In The Next 10 Yrs - Duration: 13:01.
And you know,even if you
just invested in the peak of '08,
you're mostly likely, still ahead of the market right now.
So in the long term, stocks still work.
Hi, welcome to the Bid and Ask series,
I'm Alvin, the founder of Dr Wealth.
Today, we have a special guest, Stanley Lim
He is the founder of Value Invest Asia,
and he is an ex-Motley Fool analyst.
He is also a CFA chartered holder,
and recently he wrote a book "Value Investing in Asia",
Thank you Stanley for being in the show.
Yeap, thank you very much Alvin, for having me.
Why not you tell us a little bit about your background in investing,
how you first got started and
why did you start 'Value Invest Asia'?
I think when I first started investing,
the motivation is the same as most people.
I wanted to have more money.
Because when I first started working after my university, my first job...
I was still working Malaysia so my first job was
salary maybe around SGD$500 a month
and I knew that's not going to be the long-term plan.
I remember when I was a kid, I read this book by Robert Kiyosaki
I think a lot of people read it.
"Rich Dad, Poor Dad", where he talked
about the four quadrant right
so we have to become either a businessperson or become an investor
so that's really how I get started (being) interested in investing
and then learning from books like "Intelligent Investor", or "Security Analysis",
although that's a very dry book, but from that I become a value investor.
Why did you start 'Value Invest Asia'?
Why we start ValueInvestAsia.com is because basically we see
when we are investing, if we want to look for information say from the US market,
it's so easy to find stocks information
but it's so hard to find information about Asian stocks.
And yet we are very optimistic about the future of Asia and
the Asia stock market.
So we really want to become the information provider to
just talk about more Asia stocks and
give people more in-depth research about Asian stocks.
Thank you for the book, I've read it...
I like it and it really give a lot more perspective about Asia.
I've read a lot of books that are mostly from U.S.,
and they definitely talk about the U.S. stocks a lot more than Asia
and you've brought in a context about
Asian companies being a little bit different right?
Let me ask you, since you're so bullish about Asia,
do you only invest in Asia?
No, not really. I invest in the US stock market as well,
just because there's so many high-quality US companies.
I think right now, my allocation to the US stock market is about
20-30% to U.S.,
but I also invest in a lot of China companies that's listed in U.S.
So that's the combination of all US listed stocks.
But having said that, I think it's just a personal choice where you want to invest in and
we are still predominantly Asia base and
I am still very optimistic about where Asia is going to be in the next few decades.
That's why most of our stocks is still in Asia
and we want to promote Asia as a financial institution
and stock market as well.
So, if you really want to know why are they so bullish about Asia,
You should get a copy of the book,
or at least follow their website.
Yes thank you.
On that note, you did mention that the companies are a bit different in Asia
especially the corporate structure
there more "family-owned" kind of structure, compared to the US
where they have more professional managers who run the companies.
So in that sense,
do you use different ways or processes to evaluate
these kind of Asian companies with high family controlled entities?
I wouldn't say the process is different
but rather we place more emphasis
on understanding the management and the major shareholders,
whereas when invest in US stock market,
we might not even care who the main shareholder is.
But that's not the case in Asia,
we have to check who the main shareholder is.
I'm not saying that family-owned business is bad.
That's not really what I'm trying to convey
some of them are actually pretty good, well-run and
I think being family-owned,
it actually aligns the interest with shareholders
because as a family-owned business you want the business to be better.
But, many businessmen, maybe especially from the previous generation,
they don't see minority shareholder as a fair partner.
They only see that "I build up the business,
you're just buy my stock, why should I treat you fairly?"
that's their mentality and
when they do that then maybe sometimes they overpay themselves,
sometimes they have their whole family in the company
and also sometimes, more extreme cases, they have many related party companies,
where just they are using that to channel the profit away.
So these are the things we have to look out for.
The best scenario is to find a family-owned business but
with a (major) shareholder who is friendly to minority shareholders.
So basically what you're saying is that you're looking out for
signs that management is not on the shareholders' side?
Yes.
You mentioned, a high board with their own family members,
they pay themselves high salary,
so these are telltale signs that you would have to avoid this company all together.
Yeah definitely.
One of the most common question is how many stocks should one invest in?
There's a school of thought where they believe that a concentrated portfolio,
let's say, less than 10 stocks...is the way to go,
but there's also no group that say:
"No. You should diversify your portfolio to 30 or 40 stocks,
so that one stock doesn't kill you if you get it wrong.
What is your take on this?
Personally, my portfolio allocation has morphed over time.
Over the past decade, I've morphed from a concentrated investor
to become a diversified investor.
So now, maybe I own 40-50 stocks.
The way, why I do it is because as a retail investor,
I don't want to just spend so much time understanding and following one company
so I spend enough time to understand the company,
and then I take very small position,
so if anything happened to the company,
I'm not deeply affected.
That's why I have a diversified portfolio.
And also from personal experience,
last time I used to have very concentrated ones and
one mistake can really set you back a huge amount.
now, even if I lost 100% on one stock, is just 2-3% (of my overall portfolio)
it's still okay.
So which means you are keeping around 40 - 50, that's your optimal number.
not beyond that right?
Hopefully. Hopefully.
I've seen some professional fund managers
who have like three hundred to maybe a thousand stocks,
but I don't think as a retail investor
I have the time to follow that kind of strategy,
and I want a life outside of investing,
so I rather not have that kind of portfolio.
To date, how well has your portfolio been doing for you?
Base on my own personal calculations,
for the past decade, my portfolio is ranging around 12 - 15% a year,
I am not super aggressive in my portfolio,
and most of my portfolio is still in what you call ' income stocks'
so I focus a lot on high quality growing companies
Speaking about growth companies,
I know you have a few different kind of companies that you look at
like income like value,
and you mentioned that out of so many,
growth is the trickiest to identify
Is there any way that retail investor who is interested investing these growth companies
what can they do to improve their odds of finding a real growth company?
When you talk about growth company,
I think it links back to your portfolio allocation and
in the book, like you rightly point,
we say that in the stock market, mostly there's only three types of value.
Asset value, income value and growth value.
And how I personally invest in growth companies,
is I make sure I have a core portfolio of income stocks,
high quality income stocks.
Maybe 50% to 80% in income stocks,
then I play with the 20 -30% allocation on growth companies,
so as to limit my risk.
And when it comes to growth company,
I would really focus much more in management and
also in the growth opportunity of the company.
and I make much more bets,
so maybe for income stocks, I invest 3%,
but for growth company I would just invest maybe 1%,
but many many bets.
So in other words, there are two ways that
you have the processes to help you limit the impact
of growth stocks, if you chose it wrongly?
One is: don't allocate a big proportion of your capital to growth stocks,
which your said for yourself is about 20-30% right?
And then even with this 20-30% capital,
each stock that you invest in is a lot smaller
than what you would have if you invest in dividend stock or income stock?
Exactly.
That's how I'm limit my risk.
Of course it is based on your own preference.
If you're someone who is already financially free,
or you can take more risks,
there's no reason why you cannot have 100% growth stocks.
But the opposite is true, usually people who are financially free are more conservative.
Yes, to protect your 'nest egg', yes.
So they'll just buy all income. "Why do I need the growth anyway right?"
Yea, exactly!
I believe you've heard many advice regarding investments,
and probably there are good and bad ones,
so what is the worst one that you've ever heard?
I think the worst advice I've ever heard is actually "Cash is King".
I don't believe in that.
Mainly because I see stocks or property or anything else,
just as a different asset for you to store your wealth.
And cash by far is i think, the worst store of wealth.
When you look at some of the billionaires out there like
Warren Buffett or Robert Kuok,
when they say they are worth twenty or thirty billion dollars,
they don't hold twenty to thirty billion cash right?
most of it is actually in stocks.
and so the idea is stocks actually appreciate in price over the long term,
whereas I'm pretty sure cash will just depreciate in the long term.
That's quite a controversial one because you're right in the sense that
there are a lot of people who believe that by holding cash
in case a market crash, they can buy a lot of stocks.
Do you really see that happening to those people who really hold a lot of cash
daring to buy all these stocks when the market crashes?
In theory it works like that, but in practice...
when everyone is panicking, I think it's really harder to do.
And to me, it's precisely the fact that I know that
in the market crash I might not have the guts to invest so aggressively,
so I rather just stay invested and
I'm sure we've gone through 2008,
and you know even if you just invest it in the peak of 2008,
you're most likely still ahead of the market right now,
so in the long term stocks still works for you
whereas if you hold 100% cash,
I'm pretty sure ten years from now, it will not have any big impact on your portfolio.
Besides bad advice, now let's go to the good advice.
You've been investing for so many years,
I believe here are many lessons that you've learn,
is there any 1 particular lesson, you think would be beneficial to share with the audience?
I think the most maybe the best takeaway from me,
after investing for so many years is
really to have the patience to stay invested.
Many people who invest,
they kind of have the "try and see" mode,
and after a few years, if they don't see any meaningful return,
they might say that it's not worth their time.
That has been the case for me.
In the first seven to eight years,
my portfolio didn't generate a lot,
and it's not meaningful a return.
But just give it time and maybe
once you reach a critical mass, you will really start to see the snowball effect
and that's how compounding work.
And if you don't have the patience to wait for it,
if you quit some time in the middle,
to restart it, you'll probably waste another decade.
Thank you Stanley for your wonderful insights to a lot of the questions and
I particularly like the bad advice on holding a lot of cash,
so personally I also think that it is not easy to buy after market crash,
and hopefully this kind of things that we share during these kinds of interviews,
you are able to reflect on it and
probably help you become a better investor.
Once again, thank you Stanley for coming.
Thank you very much Alvin.
