Real estate developers and city planners agree: successful small businesses are

the livelihood of a thriving community, creating sustainable jobs and

strengthening incomes for area residents. Despite how integral new industry is

in transforming distressed areas into socially vibrant and economically

healthy neighborhoods, many entrepreneurs in minority and low-to-moderate income

neighborhoods struggle to secure the necessary loans from standard banking

institutions. Acting as an alternative source of funding to larger lenders, the

national network of Community Development Financial Institutions, or

CDFIs, work to deliver responsible, affordable lending to help disadvantaged

people and communities join the economic mainstream.

A Community Development Financial Institution

is a designation from the federal government that allows

an entity to provide technical assistance and access to capital.

By financing community businesses, nonprofit organizations, commercial real estate, and

affordable housing, CDFIs sparke job growth and retention in hard to serve

markets across the nation and for over 40 years they've had a proven track

record of making an impact in those areas of America that need it most.

Our mission starts with businesses who have not been able to get credit

elsewhere. Those that are looking to grow and expand, those that are looking to

create jobs, are perfect for our portfolio.

Established in 1976, VEDC is

the Los Angeles CDFI and Small Business Resource, guiding entrepreneurs through

the ins and outs of alternative financing educational services and job

creation. VEDC has lent over $400 million dollars in direct and guaranteed

loans to over 100,000 small businesses, helping to create and retain more than

200,000 new jobs.

We believe every entrepreneur has a chance that create a

successful business. With the right input, with the right knowledge, the right

financing, they can create something that really is wonderful for their community.

We have a number of locations across San Fernando Valley and in LA to help those

small business owners right where they're located.

VEDC is changing small business lending and education

making it more available and impactful

and building programs that directly target new industry trends and the

appropriate business owners in those categories. Its development team is

uniquely trained to provide support and assistance to any entrepreneur who needs it

as well as financing solutions that stay at or below market value

for the widest reach possible.

Our services are free so all of the technical assistance,

education, networking, coaching, etc., they're all free services available to you.

Education is essential for small business owners. Nobody is born with all

this business skill so starting a business is always a big challenge.

Here we do a lot of technical assistance, a lot of workshops that help them develop

those skills that will put them in the right place for a successful small business.

They come and they want to learn about licenses and permits and the

regulations and we're able to guide them and hold their hand. If we work with them

in a one-on-one, we build that confidence to become the business owner that they're supposed to be.

Starting a small business is hard. CDFIs can help.

And through various partners across the country, VEDC can provide loans that

fit your needs perfectly.

Dance is my entire life. It's been my

life since I was a kid and I knew I wanted to own my own business by the

time I was 10. I loved empowering my young dancers. My favorite thing about

the VEDC is it's like an extended family and they treat me like a person not a

number. Anytime I've needed anything I give them a call and they'll listen to me

they'll help me. I highly recommend the VEDC for any business owner who is

trying to seek funding to either start, grow, or expand their business.

They're willing to take a risk on the small people, the people who can't get the bank

loans. If you get told no and your credit score is bad and you have nowhere to go

I do recommend the VEDC because they will listen and they will help you.

We're looking to create quality jobs going forward, jobs with reliable scheduling

with the ability to earn an income such that the employees can own a home, have a

retirement fund. VEDC is open to everybody to come and apply.

There is a path to growing a business and having a successful business even if you've been

declined by a bank. There are CDFI across the country ready to help you.

We'll get you ready for success.

CDFIs are enriching communities by making

small business dreams a reality. If you are a Los Angeles entrepreneur seeking

support for your business, contact VEDC today. Call 1-800-304-1755, or

How to build AI applications with Cognitive Search (Part 1) - Duration: 7:10.

Hello,

everyone welcome to the second webinar of the LearnAI series my name is Rodrigo

Souza I am a data scientist with the Microsoft research and AI team.

We have a special guest today Liam do you want to introduce yourself?

Yeah, thanks Rodrigo. Hi Everyone, My name is Liam Cavanagh and I am a program manager

i work on the content search and intelligence team which is part of the cognitive

search that Rodrigo is going to be talking about today let's go

today we'll talk about cognitive search and how it was use it with the jfk files

project we start with the microsoft vision and platform for ai then we

have cognitive search constants and related technologies and for

the jfk project you see architecture demo in the call

At the end we have ten minutes for a q and

a session is small disclaimer before we go any further this is not

the session about the related technologies work especially how they work together.

This is a microsoft vision for AI.

we can browse and apply end-to-end solutions from the Azure AI gallery

You can build your own solutions using the Azure platform.

You can interact with intelligence agents like Cortana or bots.

And, can use the better AI intro applications like

office365 or even windows itself?

And, this is the ai platform infrastructure services and tools.

Can use any operational system and

employ your models on frames in the cloud or even to IoT device

for the jfk project we use it Pre-built AI AI ON DATA

AI Computes the similarities in a few minutes?

After some research i chose these definitions so we can better understand what cognitive search is.

Artificial intelligence computing which

simulate human-human perception.

Cognitive form from a to perspective process often

intellectual activity search from a web perspective

experience of a natural low friction way to interact with applications

and data finally the definition for cognitive search extract relevant

information from big and diverse data sets in users context.

Perception drives to context and we can

say cognitive search is cognitive skills with a search engine.

If I'm going too fast please let me know.

And, what are the microsoft related technologies for

cognitive search. first one we see is cognitive services

the value of ai isnt about fancy algorithms but how to make it

easy to use.

As you can see we have api to simulate human

cognitive skills. This service are prebuilt in preach changing deep learning

models polished on Azure to accelerate your AI project.

They have free cheers.

can be used with just a few lines of code and work across platforms

like ios andriod and windows.

But, the jfk project we use a computer vision and entity linking api.

In the cognitive service portal we have

a directory for apis grouped by category.

in the quality of service for row if you use a few clicks

you can see pricing and documentation of all the fbi you need.

Example the computer vision api use in the jfk project

is free up to five thousand transactions per month is

works we've curl or any other language capable to call a recipe

api also you can download all documentation pdf format

It also has demos

allow you to see expected jason results for each fbi

sample major is provided but you can upload your own you do these

in a few minutes.

with computer vision api.

In the jfk project you read

text from images in pdf files if the entity linking

api you get the wikipedia id of the terms

and expressions extracted from the computer vision processing I just image so

the two technologies work together these two api work together one after the other.

Azure search the second microsoft technology use it for cognitive search energy

in the JFK project.

It's a cloud search path service for web and

mobile applications.

It's easy to scale up and down and has ninety nine-point nine per cent

SLA. It creates an index if metadata about your data it's not

data integration it's not data replication its an index

with information about your data?

Provides natural language processing and

have special features for same structure or unstructured data?

Which features are these, spelling mistakes?

Geo spatial data and not only plotting but also distance intersections

so on suggestions ranking paging

Highlighting and facets.

However, working with relational database you can imagine how complicated it

is to do all of these we've sequel lots of IFs.

Like percent queries very bad for performance.

Sub queries.

Cursors

Secondary indexes so it's pretty hard to index

unstructured data we have sequel work with structured data

that's where Azure search helps the most and how it works?

It has corey profiles so can define ranking in relevance for each term

this

process has a default algorithm  but you can create  your own.

Azure search provides process.

Processing capabilities for multiple language removing stop wards or

provide a concept understanding of the data you can use Lucien microsoft algorithms for

this possible data sources are Azure sequel end string column.

CosmosDb the files on Blob storage include including office files

pdf csv xml and so on and also

Azure tables are key values storage on Azure.

How to Find Out Your Purpose Instantly (5 Ways) - Duration: 6:22.

Who am I to tell you what your purpose is? I'm not! Then why watch this video?

Because one person is qualified to tell you what your purpose is and that's you

what I'm about to say in this video is not factual they're not all truth it's

just what I believe by all means take the ones that work for you and discard

the ones that don't that being said let's discover how to find your purpose

in life instantly starting with the first idea now number one you are more

than one thing it's so easy in life to think about your purpose and think about

one thing your career what you do for a living but you might have so high

expectations of getting fulfilment from this one thing that when you don't meet

it you're often devastated and disappointed and here's the downfall to

having a one thing mentality let's say you've done some soul-searching and

you've discovered you're going to be a dentist you go to the dental school you

now have your own practice you're super jazzed up about being a dentist but one

morning you come in early you make a mistake because you're tired you give a

patient too much novocaine and it kills them their parents sue you you lose your

license and you can never be a dentist again

with this one thing mentality you would think that this individual because they

cannot be a dentist have lost purpose in their life I believe this is nonsense

I think there are so many jobs you can do in life so many skill sets you have

that can add value to people plus you're more than your career anyway you could

be a father you could be a mother you could be a brother you can be a sister

you could be a friend there's so many avenues in life to bring your life

purpose and when you do this with one thing those expectations for that one

thing don't get met and you're often left disappointed you are so much more

than one thing number to build an empire many of us have this need for importance

we're driven by our ego to be the tallest building in the world because

before the tallest were the best and when we were the best we feel great

about ourselves but I've found that when you do this when you're competing with

other people you often feel you're never enough oftentimes there are other people

out there that are taller than you and it can make you feel inadequate that's

why I've chosen to switch my mentality to going from building the tallest

building to building an empire not using your skill sets and talents to build

yourself up but to use your skill sets and talents to build others up to bring

value to their lives it's a choice you have to make tallest building or

building an empire number 3 open your hearts door I'm sure when you leave for

work in the morning you lock your door because you have valuable stuff inside

and you don't want someone to come in and take it if you don't want a purpose

in your life you're probably doing this with your heart as well you lock the

door on your heart there is a benefit no one can come in and take the love but

the downfall is that love can't come out I believe there's love and abundance in

you and when your door is shut it cannot come out if you have the courage and

you're going to be vulnerable and open your heart and give the world who you

truly are the love that's inside you the world really craves this love that's

inside you if you open the door I believe you'll find your purpose and

you'll realize you have nothing to be afraid of

someone could take your love but it's in abundance the love you put out comes

back tenfold and when your hearts open that's when you find your purpose that's

when you're living a purposeful life next feel fully this idea was inspired

by transformational speaker Kyle sees he said we're not here to feel happy we're

here to feel fully it's up to you what you want to do with your life if you

want to pursue a life of pleasure and happiness that is dependent upon

circumstances and happenings or to experience the roller coaster emotion of

life and truly enjoy it embracing the highs and the lows one example could be

when you're lonely maybe someone just broke up with you that you've been

dating for a long time instead of processing it you seek distraction

watching TV eating ice cream trying to find the next person to fill that void

but what if life is about processing the highs and the lows what if you just sat

down and realize that it's okay to be alone you'd no longer be afraid of

feeling these lows and you'll find that these low moments often take you to your

highest highs I've made a video on how to overcome loneliness I'll leave a card

to that now but let's move on to the next one and lastly experience your life

many of us make this mistake of thinking there's no way I can find my purpose

someone out there who's wiser and smarter has to tell me I need to

discover it in the video or a book it's not gonna work

life is about experiences you don't know what you like you don't know what you

don't like you don't know what you're good at you don't know what you're not

good at until you go out and experience it all I'm saying is it's so easy to be

a spectator in life to watch others living out their dreams doing wonderful

things than thinking that you can't do it we're waiting for a time that is most

comfortable for you I challenge you today whatever it is that you're afraid

of or something you're curious about go out and do it experience it and whether

success or failure it'll be a learning experience and it'll make you a better

person and when you're becoming a better person

you're living a purposeful life if you found this video helpful and want more

like it subscribe to my channel today and hit the bell notifications so you

don't miss anything this is your friend Michael inspire you to learn laugh and

love hope you enjoyed this video can't wait to see you in the next one

this cut off the yarn this completes attaching the button to the dress we are

going to work a chain of eleven one two three four five six seven eight nine ten

eleven you can adjust this chain to make it larger or smaller to fit the size of

your button I'm going to join with the beginning chain joining is putting my

hook through the first chain wrap the yarn over pull through pull through the

loop on the hook we have joined in touring I'm going to work one slip

stitch around each chain because putting my hook through the chain wrap the yarn

over and pull through until I'm back around to the beginning this is to give

it a little bit extra thickness and you don't have to do this if you don't want

to this is just something I like to do you can just use the chain or create

your own type of loop

I'm back around to the beginning we want to join with the beginning chain like

that yarn over pull through and I'm going to pull through a little bit extra

this is for attaching it to the opposite side I'm going to place my ring right

here working on the inside I want to make sure it's even I'm going to pull

this over to the edge and put my needle through to the front and then I want to

go over a couple strands through the chain to the inside like this and at

this point you can check it out just to make sure everything is going to work

properly like that this will give you an idea how it's going to look and you will

continue attaching the ring to the inside and I'm going to make a little

knot up here at the top like that and then run my needle down here to this

other side I'm going to attach the last few chains

they cannot hear I'm still working on the inside and we're going to work

through the stitches in the opposite direction

I'm going to skip over some threads go back in the opposite direction like this

and then cut off the yarn now I'm going to put the loop over the button like

this

How to Build a Travois | Surviving in the Wild - Duration: 3:46.

In this video we show you how to make a travois.

A travois is a pull sled that was

originally used by the First Nations to transport one's Goods

You could use this

in a survival situation to transport an injured or extremely sick person to a

safer location or to cross a portage on a canoe trip

Or in our case to transport

heavy logs for our fire and building materials for our shelter

That's right, let's show you how we built this one

The only tool we'll be using to build this

travois is our knives.

To construct this travois you're gonna need two

12 to 15-foot hardwood poles.

And four cross poles range from 5 feet to 3 feet

tapering in length

With strength and stability in mind look for intersecting

branches off of your main structure in your cross poles to add to the strength

and durability of your travois.

We're gonna be using two knots to lash our

cross poles onto our structure of our travois. The first knot is called an

overhand slip knot and all I'm going to be doing is making a loop with my

cordage going around that loop in my main finger tucking the tag end through

the loop, pulling through tightening that up and what that does is it gives me an

adjustable noose that I can either make smaller or bigger

Then all I'm gonna do

is take my tag ends and do what's called a cross wrap and this is going to help

secure my cross pole to the actual structure at this point I'm just going

to cross over

that way I'm getting a full cross wrap

So now that I got a solid lash I'm just going to be going around doing what's

called frapping and that's taking the cordage and going between the brace pull

my cross pull and the cordage that's already on.

And the last knot that I'm

going to be showing you is called a surgeon's knot and this is a basic knot

and all you're gonna do is do an overhand knot once, twice

I'm gonna pull tight to bind that lashing and then to secure it you're

just gonna do another overhand knot

If you don't have any cordage with you

you could take a shoelace or a strap or something from a coat or you could dig

up some root these are spruce root that we split in

half and they also work as lashing

We'll give that a nice smooth bottom

so that it drags a little easier

Alright let's see if this thing actually

can pull a human

So assuming I'm injured or really sick and my partner here

needs to take me to a safe location across a portage. Hit it let's see what we can do

Just works really good

All the way home please

Oh he always forgets to

peat out lightly

How To Get More Comments on Youtube Videos - Duration: 8:25.

Today I want to show you how to get more comments on your YouTube videos. And I

don't have just any generic tips for you. Today I have a real treat in store.

Six weeks ago Morningfame showed Daniel that the weakest spot on his channel is

engagement. So I threw him a challenge and said like get your engagement up as

fast as you can by driving more comments. And just four weeks later he really aced

it. I would even say he reached the holy grail of commenting. So how did he do

this? Well, let's find out.

Hey youtubers, Nico here. So let's find out how Daniel

aced the commenting. Daniel has a channel called Extreme Food Reviews and the name

speaks for itself. Let's check out a few seconds.

Bravado Ghost Pepper and

Blueberry hot sauce. Let's eat it.

So he got some comments like "Great video! I need to try that hot sauce". So how do we

respond? Well, Daniel realized one thing: Usually, we say something like "thanks for

stopping by" or "I'm glad you enjoyed my video" but this is really a conversation

killer, right? I mean there is no reason for the other person to write again a

comment on that, right? So the goal really should be to start a conversation or at

least get one more follow-up comment from that person. So how do you reply to

a comment like "Eww! Spicy cereal!" Let me quickly get you up to speed what

the video was about.

We like to, we like to mix things. We like to combine

ingredients. So this is ghost pepper and blueberry, so how do we get the berry up?

We can introduce some crunch berries.

This is disgusting. This is breakfast.

I wonder what color ghost pepper

blueberry sauce will turn the milk.

We are putting it, oh my god. In the milk, oh my god!

So Daniel replied: "Stop it. You love my

cooking. (Is this considered cooking?)" Well, that's a conversation starter.

It worked. Meg Larson replied: "cooking yes... it's ruining the sanctity of cerial!"

So joking around is always a good idea since Daniel's channel is an

entertainment channel. For a channel like mine for example it would be sharing

more information. That is always a good idea to continue the conversation. But

what about the comments you get in the first place? What we can do there is to

choose a video topic that is emotional, thought-provoking, controversial in the

first place. So as an example let's look at another extreme food review! Today

we're playing a game and we've got to match the slogan of the chip brand to

the fiery chip that it goes with. So the first one we have here. This is the

Ruffles flaming hot potato chip. I don't know if that was flaming hot but

according to the name of it, it was flaming hot. The second chip we have is

Doritos blaze.

Blaze le Lay's.

I don't like that. That's a gross chip. It's like chilly light.

"Wow, you guys are very brave. I would never eat any of these things..."

"Come on... I am sure you could handle the vanilla ice cream :)"

"Well, besides that fire fire fire"

Well, this is the power of doing something controversial, emotional,

thought-provoking. It really urges the people to leave their first comment. And

if you think that Extreme Food Reviews really lends itself towards doing

something controversial, well then let's take my channel for example. If I tell

you that YouTube tags don't do what you think they do,

well that is controversial as well and produces a lot of comments. So I wonder

in your niche, what is there working really well for you? What is

controversial, thought-provoking, emotional which produces a lot of

comments? Please let me know in the comments below. I'm really interested to

see how the different niches work there. And by the way if you think that Extreme

Food Reviews is all there is to it, no, Daniel can take it even up a notch.

Hey everybody. Welcome to Extreme Food Reviews and today we're eating bugs.

No! No! Nice try! Guys!

Let's eat it.

We don't just have crickets. We have three flavors of crickets.

Who knew. What's this flavor Jonas? This is salt and vinegar.

What's this flavor? We have sour cream and onion. And I've got bacon and cheese.

And these are some full-on crickets - it's not like cricket parts. They're really big.

Throw it up there.

I wasn't nervous about this until now. I think the

thing we have to... Do I lick it? No you have to eat the whole thing.

Alright. So I guess we clunk it and

dunk it. I don't know...

"haha very nice. I had crickets and scorpion while traveling in Thailand. I

feel you guys."

"Good grief! We haven't tried scorpion yet. That and Tarantula is

on our list. Our list sucks. Did I mention that?"

"I'm going to be honest, I would

and it lol. I did quite like the crickets though. Thought they tasted like bacon.

Scorpion had a mushy inside [disgusted emoji]" For a good reason.

So as you can see Daniel is really giving his viewers a reason to leave a

comment and as they begin to understand that commenting is fun, they keep coming

back to Daniel's channel and leave even more comments. And that actually brings

me to the holy grail of commenting. To understand what it is, let's have a look

at how Daniel tastes cat food.

Oh my god she's back. Can we maybe not fill the spoon?

I didn't. Okay.

oh oh oh my god

I have like a gravy to it. Oh now it feels like tire shards left in

my mouth. Now that the flavor is gone because I swallowed the gravy.

This one got many comments.

"When you said, 'it has a gravy to it' I actually started to gag

and heave for real."

"I used the term 'gravy' exceptionally loosely. It had a

non-nutritive slime that covered the bits of rubber they were pawning off as

meat." And now even two other people chimed in to the conversation.

"So glad to be a

gamer and not to relate to any of this video in real life." And a third person:

"haha" As soon as more people join into a single conversation you know you have

made it. Because we know comments on YouTube are not the same as on other

social media platforms. There is usually no reason for people to read the

comments of other people. But if you drive those comments, if you drive the

conversation, they start to understand that the comments on your videos in

particular are valuable and they start reading the comments of other people. And

ultimately that way your audience will grow closer together and that is really

valuable because your subscribers in particular will be more loyal to your

channel, keep coming back to watch your new videos and that is really for the win for

your channel in the long run. So that said my friends. If you didn't reach the

holy grail of commenting yet, well then I challenge you to do the same and try to

increase your comments as much as you can to build this conversation, to grow

closer to your audience. Well, Daniel really achieve that within four

weeks. It's not too much of work but once you arrive there you will really

lift your channel to a whole new level. A conversation with your audience that will

also help you to improve your video topic choices because you now know much

better what your audience wants to watch on your channel. So high five Daniel,

high five Jonas and Megan. I mean you are really doing a super great channel. It

was cringy, it was funny, it was super great to see all your videos. I mean keep

it up! It's so great to tell your story. My friends check out their channel. It's

really fun to watch. So I hope you really learned something with this and see you

next time my friends.
