This is a brief tutorial to show you how to set up Google Scholar so that it works with
the URI library's online journal subscriptions.
First, you want to make sure that you are logged into your gmail account, your uri.edu
account, or your my.uri.edu account.
Next, go to Google Scholar.
You can reach Google Scholar at scholar.google.com.
You can verify that you're still logged in by looking to see if your account icon
is in the upper right-hand corner of the window.
If you're logged in, click on the expansion menu in the upper left of the screen.
Then click on the gear just to the right of the Google Scholar logo.
While you're here, you can also customize some of the options on the settings page.
For example, you may want to leave out patents from your search results.
You may want to increase the number of results per page to 20, or opt to open selected results
in a new window or tab.
Finally, if you use a citation manager, you can configure Google Scholar to provide a
quick export link to your preferred tool.
Now, the important part: connecting Google Scholar to the URI Libraries' subscriptions,
so you don't hit a paywall when you click on promising articles, and also have the option
of ordering articles via interlibrary loan if they're not available.
To do this, click on the LIBRARY LINKS link on the left side of the page.
Enter University of Rhode Island in the search box, and click on the search button.
Select all the new items listed for the University of Rhode Island.
If you've made changes here click the SAVE button on the screen.
Now, when you search, you can see there are "Search @ URI Libraries" links alongside
results, providing an option to search URI's subscriptions for access.
This will work whenever you're on campus and whenever you're logged in to your Google
account.
