So what's it like to manufacture fear?

Well, we talked to a couple whose life's work is to study and create fear.

Eastern State Penitentiary is notoriously haunted.

The world's first true penitentiary.

A building designed to inspire penitence, or true regret.

It's now a museum, and to fund its year-round operation they run the

biggest haunted house I have ever seen.

We're the largest haunted house in the country.

Thirty-two show nights. So well over 100,000 people.

Spooks have a formula.

I talk about the fright triangle.

There's the story,

the spectacle

and there's the startle.

In more academic terms,

acute threat.

Haunted houses, they are going for the in-the-moment startle,

high-activation, high-impact trying to get the body all worked up.

Which we know is fake.

And I'm interested in, like, why can't we

work up the same kind of immediate anxiety about stuff that's actually

going to hurt us, and that things like climate change or nuclear annihilation

or, you know, the bad stuff that's in the news.

For most of human existence we have

had to fear things that were in our immediate surroundings.

So they're coming right at us.

We're not so good at attributing the, I guess, appropriate weight to risks that

aren't right in front of us.

So getting a fright is very different from a sense of

angst or deep dread about the future.

But recent studies on emotions show that our

fear is constructed.

It's actually informed by our previous experiences

Humans, we can think ourselves into and out of fear even walking through a

haunted house people can steel themselves against the startles.

Which might lead you to suppose that you could actually control it somehow.

It takes a lot of cognitive control, and it's not any fun.

Korea to resume building two new nuclear reactors, but cancels six others - Duration: 2:13.

South Korea is set to resume construction on two new nuclear reactors... after a public

opinion survey found most people are in favor of it.

But even though the reactors will be built, the Moon administration is pushing to take

the country nuclear-free in the long run.

Today, the energy ministry announced its plans for Korea's existing reactors as well... and

how it intends to meet the country's energy needs in the future.

Kim Hyesung has the details.

Korea's energy ministry said Tuesday it will resume the construction of two nuclear reactors

after 60 percent of participants of a public survey were in favor of the project.

But the ministry said it will cancel plans to build six new nuclear reactors,... in line

with President Moon's goal to gradually phase out nuclear power.

(Korean) "We will not extend the lifespan of old nuclear

reactors.

We will push for an early closure of the Wolsong number one reactor due to safety concerns,...

and gradually shut down the number of nuclear reactors in the country from 24 in 2017 to

14 by 2038."

To ensure safety of the nuclear reactors, the ministry said it will ramp up monitoring

of the reactors' operation and expand investment to ensure their safety in the case of strong

earthquakes.

The two nuclear reactors, Shin Kori 5 and 6 were about 30 percent complete before their

construction was suspended in July.

The Ministry said it will consult with the Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Corporation

and its contractors to confirm the level and scope of compensation for the project as it

plans to resume construction.

Currently, Korea's 24 nuclear reactors provide around one-third of the country's electricity

needs.

To allay concerns of energy shortages, the minister said:

(Korean) "We will increase the proportion of renewable

energy from seven percent of the country's total power generation to 20 percent by 2030."

Along with plans to expand solar power and wind power for energy generation, the ministry

vowed to found a nuclear decommissioning research institute to boost the development of technology

to safely dismantle nuclear reactors.

The Foo Fighters have announced new concert dates.

Mixed news for fans of the Foo Fighters: while they are extending their Concrete and Gold tour, the band have had to cancel a handful of upcoming gigs due to a family emergency. To support their ninth studio album Concrete and Gold, the Foo Fighters have embarked on a world tour that began in June 2017 in Reykjavík, Iceland.

Having started the North American leg of the tour in early October, the band have recently been forced to cancel a handful of gigs in Lexington, Nashville and Memphis.

The band did not specify the reason, only stating on social media that the cancellation was due to a family emergency. The gigs have been rescheduled, with the band apologizing for any inconvenience.

The Foo Fighters next gigs are in Birmingham, Alabama, and New Orleans, Louisiana.

Its not all bad news for Foo Fighters fans, however.

The American rock band has also revealed that they are extending the Concrete and Gold tour into spring and summer 2018, starting in Austin, Texas, in April, and finishing in Chicago at the end of July.

Tickets for the new dates go on sale November 3.

The Foo Fighters recently released a new song, Soldier, in support of 7-Inches for Planned Parenthood, a sexual health care nonprofit organization who have produced a 33-song album featuring music from celebrities such as Bon Iver, John Legend & St.

Vincent, and CHVRCHES.

The set came out digitally on October 20.

Financial planners build plans that get you from where you are now to

where you want to be in the future, to meet your goals.

Now, to do that they need to come up with some sensible,

realistic assumptions about investing.

These are assumptions that are not meant to wow you with great returns

so that you decide to work with a particular investment company,

they are hard-nosed realistic assumptions designed for real life

so that there are no disappointments, they provide accuracy.

Now, here's the problem when you combine

all these various types of investments into a diversified portfolio and then

you subtract out fees, you come up with some pretty lean returns.

Example, conservative investors are told to expect about 3.25% over the long-term,

balanced investors about 3.9%,

aggressive investors, 4.8%.

Now, these returns are after fees of 1.25%

which reflect what a fairly affluent high-net-worth investor would pay,

if you have a smaller account you're paying high fees your returns

could actually be a little bit lower than this.

The DIY investor will pay a little less in fees

and therefore make a little bit more in returns, but on the other hand,

the DIY investor is not getting any advice.

Regardless of how you invest, I think it's vitally important

to be ruthlessly pessimistic about your expectations for future investment returns.

The days of double-digit returns are over.

She had asked her manager to record her and her backup dancers practicing a dance.

When they started playing the music, however, the Happy Birthday song started playing….

…and while they acted confused at first, they all broke into an organized birthday dance!.

More staff members then burst out of the door behind them with a birthday cake as well.

They then made sure to sing him the birthday song themselves….

…and also to shower him with gifts!.

Gemma Collins says she could have died when she fell into a hole on stage during the Radio 1 Teen Awards.

The reality TV star stole the headlines for all the wrong reasons when she announced Love Island as the winner of Best TV Show at the annual awards as a trap door opened to bring the winners up on stage.

Gemma didnt see this, however, and went toppling straight into the hole. And it was all caught on camera.

But reflecting on her epic fail, which she says has left her in agony, the Towie star admits she could have been a goner.

I must say I'm in a bit of shock still. But I have found the whole experience absolutely hilarious. However, I am in a bit of pain this morning, I'm not going to lie.

The seriousness of it is that it could have been really fatal because, what people dont see, is that under there theres all this machinery going on, the 36-year-old told hosts Ben Shephard and Amanda Holden on This Morning.

It was my left side. Ive got a bit of a booty going on, so thank god for that. Ive got a bit of a bruise on my left bum cheek – but other than that, Im rocking and rolling, she added.

Yes Im in a bit of pain, but it was the best moment of my life. It was one of those moments I dont think I am every going to live down..

When she fell, some of the Love Island stars had been making their way up to the stage to collect their gong and immediately ducked down to help her up.

Apologising for wiping them out, Gemma said that they were checked over my paramedics but were unhurt.

However, Gemma also hinted that shed been silenced over discussing whether or not she had been briefed on the mechanics of the trap door on stage.

When asked on This Morning if she was aware the stage would be moving, she admitted: Im not allowed to discuss that at the minute.

Metro. uk understands that Gemma did have a dress rehearsal for her presenting spot the day before and was aware that a trap door would be used on stage.

Radio 1 staff checked Gemma was okay straight after her fall, and a spokesperson told Metro. uk: We're glad Gemma is okay and she is a proper trooper.

However, Gemma being Gemma has since joked that the incident might give her leverage to get on Strictly Come Dancing in 2018.

After her mishap on Sunday, Gemma compared herself to her idol Bridget Jones, declaring her little accident only further proves what she always believed: she is the fictional heroine in an Essex girl.

Sharing a video of her moment of horror, Gemma tweeted on Sunday: Madonna done it and I done it ✌.

Korea to resume building two new nuclear reactors, but cancels six others - Duration: 2:05.

Even though the suspension on the construction of the 2 reactors is lifted.... the Moon administration

plans to pursue its long term goal of phasing out nuclear power.

According to our Kim Hye-sung, the energy ministry unveiled plans that include ways

to meet the country's energy needs in the future.

Korea's energy ministry said Tuesday it will resume the construction of two nuclear reactors

after 60 percent of participants of a public survey were in favor of the project.

But the ministry said it will cancel plans to build six new nuclear reactors,... in line

with President Moon's goal to gradually phase out nuclear power.

(Korean) "We will not extend the lifespan of old nuclear

reactors.

We will push for an early closure of the Wolsong number one reactor due to safety concerns,...

and gradually shut down the number of nuclear reactors in the country from 24 in 2017 to

14 by 2038."

To ensure safety of the nuclear reactors, the ministry said it will ramp up monitoring

of the reactors' operation and expand investment to ensure their safety in the case of strong

earthquakes.

The two nuclear reactors, Shin Kori 5 and 6 were about 30 percent complete before their

construction was suspended in July.

The Ministry said it will consult with the Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Corporation

and its contractors to confirm the level and scope of compensation for the project as it

plans to resume construction.

Currently, Korea's 24 nuclear reactors provide around one-third of the country's electricity

needs.

To allay concerns of energy shortages, the minister said:

(Korean) "We will increase the proportion of renewable

energy from seven percent of the country's total power generation to 20 percent by 2030."

Along with plans to expand solar power and wind power for energy generation, the ministry

vowed to found a nuclear decommissioning research institute to boost the development of technology

to safely dismantle nuclear reactors.

At a preview of the collection, E! News caught up the It Girl to find out what words of wisdom veteran models like Kendall Jenner and even her mom have given her.

I think [Kendall] does a really good job about having a life outside of [work] and staying with your friends and not separating yourself too much, so Ive just kind of learned that from her, Kaia exclusively told E!.

Work-life balance isnt the only thing shes picked up on the job. Cindy has passed along advice that would work even if Kaia ended her career in the spotlight.

She gives me advice for life more than modeling, like 'Be on time, which is really important in the industry were both in, the model said of her mom. And to be kind to everyone.

Everyone that Ive worked with says shes the most professional person that they work with, so I could only hope that they say the something about me. Unfortunately, when it comes to her mamas closet, Kaia is on her own.

My mom and I arent the same size. Shes a bit taller. And were not the same shoe size either, which is heartbreaking, she said.

I know that we have a lot of the same mannerisms and, obviously, look a little bit alike, but yeah, Id say we have different senses of humor and stuff like that. Luckily, when it comes to jeans, Gerber has a closet with too many options to count.

Her favorite? Barbara High Rise. I wear it literally all the time, day, night, event—they just fit me really good, she said.

My friends will always come into my closet, and they usually steal my Barbara high-rise pants, and Im like, 'No, those are the ones that Im trying to wear. You know what they say: When you find the perfect jeans, dont let them go.
