ALASKAN BUSH PEOPLE' RUMORS: IS THAT AN ACCENT FANS HEAR OR AN UNTREATED SPEECH IMPEDIMENT

Fans of Alaskan Bush People know that the Brown children have their own unique way of

talking.

Living in the backcountry of Alaska with little socialization with people outside the family,

they have not been exposed to a lot of different accents but have developed their own.

Some fans, however, are wondering if what we are calling an accent might actually be

a speech impediment that affects each of the offspring.

Billy and Ami Brown are natives of Texas.

When they speak, fans of Alaskan Bush People can hear their southern accents.

Having raised their seven children in rural Alaska, the siblings didn't pick up the

southern accent of their parents, but rather a unique dialect that has caused questions

for many fans.

As the Wolfpack stayed together and created homesteads, they lived a very isolated life.

According to In Touch Weekly, Billy Brown has said that the family never realized any

of them had an accent until after the show began airing in 2014.

Fans pointed out the accent and began asking questions.

According to social media posts, fans feel that the voices of the Brown children all

have an old-fashioned accent to them.

It is the way they pronounce certain words, and the emphasis that is put on the syllables

of particular words, that makes their dialect unique.

As with most accents, it becomes heightened at times for some of the Brown clan, like

when they express excitement or anxiety.

The thing is, there is no one particular accent to which the fans can link the unique sound.

It isn't a southern accent, as their parents, of course, have.

A new concern was recently brought up by fans of Alaskan Bush People.

Could it possibly be a speech impediment rather than an accent?

If so, what are the chances of each of the siblings having a form of the speech impediment

that has gone undiagnosed due to the lack of medical care available in the backcountry,

where they had their home?

Do you hear a unique accent from the Brown children?

Do you think it is an accent or a speech impediment?

Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

ALUM IN GARDENING - Benefits or Uses of Alum on Plants and Garden - Aluminum Soil Amendment - Duration: 3:21.

Alum Uses In Gardens: Aluminum Soil Amendment Tips

Alum or Potash Alum chemically called Potassium Aluminum Sulfate is a chemical compound commonly

used in water purification, leather tanning, dyeing, etc.

Alum is available in powder form and also in crystal form and is easily available at

any grocery store or supermarkets and even in some garden stores.

But How is it useful in gardening and what are the benefits of Alum in garden or on plants?

To start with the uses of Alum in garden, you must know that Alum is not a fertilizer.

Its First and Main Use in garden is to improve soil pH that is Soil Amendment Purpose.

For beginners, A pH level of 7.0 is neutral and soil with a pH below 7.0 is acidic, while

soil with a pH above 7.0 is alkaline.

People living in Dry climates often have alkaline soil, while climates with higher rainfall

typically have acidic soil.

Soil pH is very important in the gardening, because unbalanced soil makes it more difficult

for plants to absorb nutrients in the soil.

Most plants do well with soil pH between 6.0 and 7.2 – either slightly acidic or slightly

alkaline.

However, some plants, including hydrangeas, grapes, strawberries, blueberries, and even

our hibiscus love acidic soil.

This is where the role of alum comes in - which can be used to lower soil pH, thus making

the soil suitable for acid-loving plants.

If you want to test your soil using a gadget called Soil PH Tester, you can purchase it

online – the link is given in description.

Other Alternative to Alum what is use is Diluted Vinegar (Acetic Acid), but it's a liquid

and you need to add frequently like once a week or so to maintain PH.

But mixing alum powder in soil keeps the soil acidic for a longer time.

The other use of Alum is it can used in Water plants to settle down dirty water and prevent

formation of larvae within water and it is infact a larvicide.

It also makes the water look crystal clear and also controls mosquito growth by killing

them at the larval stage in water.

Then, it is also believed to keep slugs and snails away and also certain other insects

like cockroaches.

So there we have it folks, that was our episode of Benefits of Alum in Gardening.

How to Merge Onto a Highway, Freeway, or Motorway as Seen In Dashcam Footage | New Driver Smart - Duration: 16:54.

[TITLE - Merging Mania - MUSIC]

Hi there smart drivers. Rick with Smart Drive Test talking to you today about

merging mania. It is a fundamental skill for both passing a road test and

remaining crash free for your driving career now just before we get started

here be sure to hit that subscribe button... just about there. That way you'll get

access to all of the information for those of you working towards a license

or starting a career as a truck or bus driver. As well, be sure to hit that bell.

That way you'll get instant notification when I get the videos available for you.

Now merging! As I said, it's one of the fundamental skills for both passing a

road test and remaining crash free during your driving career. And I've had

questions from smart drivers repeatedly, again and again, in the last year and a

half that I've been working hard on the Smart Drive Test channel here, whether he

or she can stop on the acceleration lane. And let me just repeat definitively... NOOOO!!

Do not ever stop on the acceleration lane. Once you're on that acceleration

lane where the white lines go from solid to dotted, you are committed to merging

out onto the highway, the freeway or the motorway. So make sure you go. So what

I've done is I've taken video footage from the last 18 months of my dashcam in

Toronto, and Kamloops, and Vernon, on Vancouver Island, and in Vancouver--the

City of Vancouver, which are all big cities and lots of merging - other

vehicles merging, myself merging. And I've put them all together in a collage so

you can watch these and watch how other people merge successfully out onto the

highway. And you will see that in none of this footage do vehicles ever stop on

the acceleration lane, even when traffic is at a crawl in Toronto. They simply

come down the on-ramp, signal early, match the speed of the traffic flow on the

highway ,and then the other vehicles on the roadway help them to merge onto the

highway, roadway and motorway by creating a space for the vehicles that are

merging. As I've said before, driving is a social activity and if you ask nicely by

putting your signal on early and also other vehicles see you coming down the

on-ramp and on the acceleration lane they're gonna move over; they're gonna

slow down and help create a space for you in which you can merge into. So have

a look at the video footage here and learn from that information.

There is lots of different configurations: you'll see that some of them have really

long on-ramps, which allow you to get speed with ample acceleration

lanes and then some of the other ones have shorter on-ramps and much much shorter

acceleration lanes. As well, and just as a side note this is not a "passing a road

test." There's some stuff here that you can't do on a road test, but it will keep

you safe during the course of your driving career. So just that caveat that

there are some different techniques that you have to put in place for merging, but

it will keep you safe over the course of your driving career. So stick around,

we'll be right back with that information.

to the right I'm gonna get off on this road here. Again it's gonna be less

well-traveled and not as plowed. And again I slowed down before the curve and

then I turned. And I accelerate I get a bit of power to the wheels here because

this road obviously hasn't been plowed at all.

it looks like the sander made an attempt to sort of get down here.

that we were coming up to an intersection, because of the cross-

traffic on the other road and the vehicle was at the brake lights - we knew

before we even got there that we don't have stop here, but nice and slow going around the

corner here. You can see that I'm only doing 30 kilometers an hour and I'm

working the steering wheel and I working the throttle.

[MUSIC - MEAN STREETZ]

Quick review of merging mania. As you saw there in the collage of video footage of

merging no one stops on the acceleration lane. When they're merging out onto the

highway, freeway or motorway regardless of how fast the the traffic is moving

along the highway, motorway or a freeway. As you saw in the backed up traffic

there in Toronto, they simply come down the on-ramp on the acceleration lane,

match the speed of the flow of traffic and move over. And early signalling is

going to help you to ask the vehicles--the drivers on the roadway, highway or

freeway or motorway to help you create a space. or they're going to move over and

allow you to merge onto the highway, freeway, or a motorway. So it's a team

event. And you need to signal early and match the flow of traffic on the roadway.

And if you're in Canada here and there isn't a whole lot of traffic that flow

of traffic is going to be a bit higher than the posted speed limit. If you're in

the US, it's going to be ten--five to ten miles an hour--if you're here in Canada

it's gonna be ten to fifteen kilometres an hour

above the posted speed limit is what the flow of traffic is going to be. So that

was a wide range of different types of on ramps and acceleration lanes.

Sometimes the acceleration lane, as you saw there, was really long where the

solid white lines are and you can get up to speed and then it's not as imperative

that you go all the way down the acceleration lane to get up to the

posted speed limit. Now as well, again the caveat was is that this was not for the

purposes of passing a road test. Remember, for the purposes of a road test stay on

the acceleration lane till the end of the acceleration lane, get right to the posted speed limit and then

move over. Because this is just general driving of how I do it

most days. And you were watching other vehicles as well in the dashcam footage

there. So just know that; that if you're studying for a road test

make sure you stay the posted speed limit. So that you're not exceeding that

because if you do on a road test, unfortunately you're not going to be

successful. Question for my smart drivers: was this collage of merging videos in

different weather types, light conditions and different places in Canada here was

this helpful for you? Leave a comment down in the

comment section there - all of that helps out the new drivers working towards

getting experience and staying a crash free during their driving career. If you

Will Peters marry the left or the right? - Duration: 2:28.

A former NZ First MP predicts NZ First will probably opt

for the left when the party final makes it decision.

As for the current crop of Mps,

all are remaining tight lipped for fear of offending Mr Peters.

And as political reporter Eruera Rerekura reports,

the prolonged process of wooing NZ First

resembles an awkward courting process

being fought between two anxious suitors.

Who will partner NZ First?

For one of their Mps,

he's close to his marriage day.

'Marry a man with calloused hands'.

Will NZ First follow that sage advice?

Without a doubt a big wedding is looming.

This former politician believes Peters will form a bond with Labour.

A healthy marriage, a long marriage.

So NZ First - pick a partner - the whole country's waiting!

Ashes 2017/18: Jonny Bairstow believes England can triumph with or without Ben Stokes - Duration: 5:50.

Ashes 2017/18: Jonny Bairstow believes England can triumph with or without Ben Stokes

The wicketkeeper-batsman is one of the key players in the line-up whether or not Stokes is ruled out as a result of his Bristol brawl.

But Bairstow believes the tourists still have plenty more capable of turning a match on its head with a moment of genius.

"We have guys with a wealth of knowledge and experience who can do that with both bat and ball," he said. "People who can change the game in a session whether with a spell or a fantastic catch or with runs.

"We know that we are going to turn up on November 23 and it is going to be a challenge, but life is full of them and we are excited about it and ready for it." They had better be, with Australia opener David Warner likening the series to a "war" and saying the hosts would work up some "hatred" for their opponents to get in the right frame of mind.

"As soon as you step on that line it's war," Warner said. "You try and get into a battle as quick as you can.

I try and look in the opposition's eyes and try and work out, 'How can I dislike this player. How can I get on top of him?'.

"You have to delve and dig deep into yourself to actually get some hatred about them to actually get up when you're out there.

History is a big part in this and that is what carries us onto the ground." Joe Root's squad depart in 12 days time without Stokes, who is awaiting the verdict of police investigation into events surrounding his arrest in Bristol on September 25.

And Bairstow admits that a difficult build-up has made him even more determined to grab his own chance to shine this winter. "You never know what's round the corner do you? You don't know what's going to happen," he said.

"It can be taken away from you so quickly.

Something you have worked so hard for over such a long period of time can be whisked away from you within a heartbeat."   Those words were not spoken about Stokes for all that they will resonate with his situation.

Bairstow was in fact talking about both his father David's suicide when he was an eight-year-old after a battle against depression, and the end of his close friend James Taylor's career due to a heart problem.

Bairstow has opened up about both and much more in a painfully honest autobiography A Clear Blue Sky, which is out later this week.

He feels telling the story of a painful chapter in his life and how his family came through it has been a largely positive experience.

"At no point did we want people to feel sorry; it was more a case of this is what happened, this is how we dealt with it, and we move forward," he said.

"It is pretty much the first time I have talked about it apart from privately. It was difficult but at the same time, things that have come from it have been a positive.

"Why have I told it now? Well there was an opportunity to try and have an impact on young kids and people of any age whether they have been through adversity or not."   Bairstow has produced a book which is as much homage to his father, who took his own life in January 1998, as it is heartfelt tribute to his mother Janet, who was battling cancer when David took his life, and the way she coped.

"That was one of the major things of me doing it was actually how mum effectively brought us up through going through a heck of a lot of things herself," he said.

"That should serve to give people a huge amount of admiration for what she has done and how she went about it." It is an attitude that will stand England in good stead this winter as they seek to land only the second Ashes win in Australia in the 28-year-old Bairstow's lifetime.

"It is just another challenge.

There are plenty in life that you don't solve straight away but you keep trying don't you?"   A Clear Blue Sky by Jonny Bairstow and Duncan Hamilton is published by Harper Collins and on sale on Thursday.

Orthopedics – Hand and/or Wrist Injuries: By Ida Li M.D. and Abbas Husain M.D. - Duration: 2:46.

Hand injuries are commonly seen in the ED and proper evaluation and treatment of these

complaints can be limb-saving.

Injuries often involve the tendons, nerves, bones, blood vessels, and skin of the hand.

When obtaining a history from the patient, it's important to note the patient's age,

hand dominance, occupation, tetanus status, the mechanism and the time course of the injury.

These factors are important in risk-stratifying the patient.

For instance, an injury which occurred due to a dog bite places the patient for high

risk of pasteurella multocida infection or likewise eikenella corrodens infection from

a human bite.

In open fractures, the time elapsed since injury is important to know in order to minimize

injury from vascular loss and for wound management.

When examining the hand, it's important to assess the patient in steps:

1.

Appearance

Check for:

Finger position, with respect to scissoring or flexing at rest.

Gross deformity, such as an open fracture or dislocation.

Bruising or swelling.

2.

Vascular Status

Check by assessing:

Radial and ulnar pulses.

Capillary refill (should be less than 2 -3 seconds).

3.

Sensation & Motor Function

For motor function, check the following:

First, the median nerve, also known as the "Tea-drinking" Nerve.

Test by checking the "OK" Sign: Ask the patient to touch the tip of the index finger

to the tip of the thumb.

Second, the ulnar nerve, looking at intrinsic muscle function.

Test by asking the patient to hold a piece of paper between adducted fingers, as you

try to pull it away. Finally, the radial nerve, looking at extensor muscle function.

Test by asking the patient to give a "thumbs up" and to twist their wrist.

For sensory function, check the patient's sensation in the distribution of the median,

ulnar, and radial nerves.
