Are Kerrigan & Lowdermilk Breaking Up?!? | From B | Brian Lowdermilk - Duration: 10:46.

Hi my loves. Here I am on the island of Koh Tao. We went snorkeling yesterday.

There's a Thai mafia that is shut down a lot of the hostels here recently so it's

a little quiet which makes it really easy to meet people. I met these awesome

musical theater girls from Scandinavia. I've been playing the guitar every once

in a while not for people yet (I haven't done that yet). Last night while we were out I

got a really really crummy email that made me really really sad so Kait and I

have been working on a musical based on these awesome children's books

Rosie Revere Engineer, Ada Twist Scientist, and Iggy Peck Architect. If

you have any like two to five year olds in your life maybe you're familiar with

the books if not, maybe not. We're working on a musical with Lauren Gunderson that

was supposed to be off Broadway this this summer at the Lucille Lortel

theater and that was gonna be really awesome and it was something I was

really looking forward to

And the funding fell through and so it will not be off-broadway this summer it

will in fact not be in a professional production prior to going out on tour so

that really really sucks I'm flying back from Asia just in time for the first day

of rehearsals that won't happen and I called Kait. I cried a little bit cause I

just like cry this is not that big a deal right so the pain shouldn't be that

great though it won't be off-broadway this year but it took me back to this

November when The Mad Ones opened we got a crushing review in the New York Times

which I have not read so please do not tweet me any selections of it but I

certainly heard that it was a (sing-song) not great review, not great review (speaking) the pain of the

the Iggy news all the sudden I was like back into those awful days after that

review came out. Talking to Kait about it was great in some ways and in other ways

not I mean most people think of us as longtime writing partners and the thing

you have to remember about Kait and I is that we have known each other since like

fourth or fifth grade. It is more like siblings and there are times when you

want to be with your family there are times when they're too close. I can't

believe I'm about to vlog about this so in that call with Kait last night Kait

was talking to me about going to our agent to talk to him about submitting

her for collaborations with other people. You know, The Mad Ones took 15 years

y'all 15 years. Republic, which we've been writing for a decade and which is the

thing we're like the absolute most proud of,

(Singing "Rise")

the prospect of waiting another 20 years to get that produced Jesus Christ so if

Kait can be submitted to be the lyricist on like on a jukebox musical even like

go and God bless that said that's a really intense thing to think about how

will I feel if Kait finally has a Broadway opening night and it's not

Kerrigan Lowdermilk it's with her Indigo Girls jukebox musical that I was

tragically not a part of.

(Indigo Girls "Closer to Fine" playing)

I feel like I also just wanted to address because people have asked

they've they've looked at all these collaborations I'm doing with lots of

lyricists on this YouTube channel and of course they're asking "are you and Kait

still writing together?" and the answer is: stop thinking about us like writing

partners asking if I'm going to continue to write with Kait is like asking if I'm

going to continue to be my sister's brother.

We love writing together. We have identified that the best path forward

for us is to in addition to writing together to also write with other people.

It's gonna be deeply painful .Sometimes deeply painful things are the most

rewarding. I hope I have the strength of character (repeated in a different voice) I hope I have the strength of character

I hope I am capable of loving Kait through every part of her writing with other

people. You know of looking at that and feeling what Poly people call

"compersion": the ability to instead of feeling jealousy to just feel like joy

on behalf of the person that you love. Basically like, the marriage is strong

y'all we're just like we're exploring we're seeing what's out there. May that

inspire you to also do things that are deeply painful and maybe terrifying and

terrible decisions. May you also make some terrible decisions says the boy who's

on Koh Tao just like, partying his eyes out. One of the things that i guess i

thought was universal of all writers but might not be is that i feel an enormous

weight from unfinished works. For me a song isn't finished when we decide that

it's like "oh great nailed that what an awesome a song." It's finished when it

goes to you. I can scratch that itch by grabbing a friend around the piano and

just releasing it to you. That's fine. That counts to me, right? If I take secret

footage and don't tell equity and post it on the YouTube under an alias account

hehehe who does that? That counts too When no one has seen it except for like five super

old people in a rehearsal room when no has seen the thing that we've made, it

doesn't count. It's not released. The weight the weight of unreleased works

that's what haunts me. The idea that that that Kait's work, that my work, that book

writer's works with directors with that the things were making because we can't

afford to raise the couple hundred thousand dollars that's it that's

literally what it is people spend that much money on fucking cars, that's what

keeps me up at night. That's what sends me into a little ball, a little ball, holding myself with my fingers in my sleeves.

So, I am hoping to in addition to writing awesome things with Kait Kerrigan on these YouTube channels,

writing awesome things with you on these YouTube channels, making these sweet-ass

pop songs with Lloyd I and Kate will also release some of our unreleased

works right here on the youtubes. Kait and I have probably written what like

eight hundred songs together something like that no joke guys I'm not as young

as I look and I look I know I look young and fresh face. I'm beautiful. She's not a

spring chicken. I figured I couldn't think of a song that would fit how I was

feeling today. This is a song from a musical that you will never ever see

that is such a good musical guys. It's so so good if the producers of it are

watching it right now please don't abandon this musical it's so good but

there's nothing to be done they're abandoning this musical. This is a song

called "When the Earth Cracks Open"

(guitar playing)

When the earth cracks open, when the ground

begins to shake when you're faced with ruin in its mighty wake

do not hide from

chaos, stand your ground or it will will spread

the alive bear witness for the dead

When your pain

dims the night in the dark you are alone, a source of light. layers of smoke inside

you rising like a northern star

when the earth cracks open you will learn

how bright you are

ah guitar solo goes there da da dum ba da da

da da da

when your pain

dims the night in the dark you are alone, a source of light

there's a spark within you rising like a northern star

when the earth cracks open you will learn how bright you are

when the earth (tries again) when the earth cracks open

you will learn how bright you are

let's do that again. There is a spark within you rising like the Northern Star

When the earth cracks open you will learn how bright you are

when the earth cracks open you will learn how

bright

you are

(talking to someone offscreen) Leave it on, I'm gonna do the whole thing one more time in case it goes a lot better.
