Oh no, oh God…why have you forsaken us.
I wanted more…just not like this!
Hello lords and ladies.
Welcome back to Cartoon Hangout, your place for all things cartoon.
Over a year ago I made a video titled, "I Need More Kim Possible."
In it I described various ways in which I'd be okay with the series coming back, because
honestly KP is one of the best action cartoons of all time.
No exaggeration it is just a fun, well-written and animated series.
It's got a really interesting female protagonist and the show doesn't beat you upside the
head with that fact until you're comatose like SOME modern series do.
And Ron is a loveable fool side kick who eventually comes into his own and even gets KP as a girlfriend.
Well now the gods have answered my prayers for more Kim Possible and…it's clearly
a great example of the old adage: be careful what you wish for, because you just might
get it.
'It' being this live-action Kim Possible movie coming 2019.
Let's just run through the trailer as quick as we can.
We've got Sadie Stanley as Kim, who I suppose looks like Kim well enough.
Though a bit on the younger side, from the looks of it.
It's like if Kim was actually a 13 year old in the cartoon, instead of being 16. her
design is adapted fairly closely to her original one from the show minus the midriff showing
because…I guess that'd be too sexual for a Disney Channel Original Movie in 2019.
We next get a few snippets of her in action or on some missions, which I'll get to later
in this video.
We've got a look at Wade, though not a very good one.
His set up is decidedly more advanced than we saw in the show, but then again that was
back in the early to mid 2000's; this is 2019.
Then good lord, we've got Drakken.
Who is…well, just…not good.
I think the actor certainly emulates the cartoon character fairly well, based on this small
trailer, but it looks like Disney cheaped out on actually making him blue.
Or giving him a costume that didn't look like cheap cosplay.
Yes, he does have these blueish veins on his face, but come on.
That's lazy as hell.
Either adapt the damn cartoon or don't bother.
Oh here's Shego next.
Also missing her, you know, green skin color.
But hey, green make up totally has the same effect, right?
We don't see too much of this actress in this trailer besides a few fight scenes, so
I've got zero idea how she acts.
This moment here confused some folks, since they couldn't figure out who these characters
next to Kim were.
Upon actually pausing the video, it's clearly her mom and Nana.
I think you could be forgiven for not making that connection since neither of them look
like their animated counterpart.
I have no idea what villains these are.
It's some all-female ninja group?
But aligned with Shego and probably Drakken?
Not sure if they're new, based on other characters, or Disney just didn't feel like
bringing Drakken's actual henchman into the series because…not enough women?
Dunno.
In an interesting move Disney actually did cast one of the show's voice actors, Patton
Oswalt, as his character Dementor.
If you had no idea that that was supposed to be Dementor, again don't feel bad.
He looks nothing like the character either.
Finally the trailer wraps up with a shot of Kim, Ron, and a brand new character.
Oh did you forget about Ron?
Cause while he does pop up in this trailer, it's very brief.
I get that this is our first look and thus they wanted to focus maybe more on the title
character, but Ron is a HUGE part of the show.
So it just doesn't feel right that he is cast to the side while other characters get
more of a spotlight.
Also, where's Rufus?
He's not in any of the scenes.
The naked mole rat is also NOT listed in the cast of this movie on Wikipedia, leading to
some speculation he isn't gonna be in the movie at all.
Which is a huge bummer.
Rufus and Ron are a great pair and much of the humor comes from their interactions and
the former's role on the team.
Was put a CG rat in the movie too hard for Disney?
Am I supposed to believe that the giant company Disney who is making more bank from the Marvel
movies than you or I will ever see in our collective lifespans…can't afford to do
the work to get Rufus into the movie?
Bull.
Crap.
Still as trailers go, I wouldn't rate this too low.
It doesn't really give away too much of the movie, but at the same time it would have
been nice to know a tiny bit more.
Like, what exactly the plot is?
Drakken talks about stealing what makes Kim who she is, so…clones?
Mind control?
Don't know, but there is a strange object in Shego's hand that looks like a Tesseract.
This is one of the few times I'd like to see more of the movie to determine if I'd
want to see it or not.
But wait, there's more!
Oh indeed, there is more.
This sneak peek also came out and if you had even the tiniest bit of faith in this movie,
this had to have blown it out of the water.
It looks so…low budget.
The choreography so lackluster and so many unnecessary moments, like the roll or shooting
her grappling hook to catch the stroller.
Why not just…alert the mom her baby is escaping?
It would have been quicker than what she ended up doing.
Also, as some others have pointed out…she runs real slow here for someone trying to
get to a bus on time.
Which she actually would not have technically gotten to because if you keep counting she
clearly exceeded the countdown.
Because…how would what she did help her get there quicker?
SMH.
But Archaic, the creator of the show is working on the movie!
Yup, he is, but that honestly means nothing these days.
In a world where George Lucas almost ruined his own franchise and JK Rowling keeps trying
to gain brownie points by including new elements into her books that were never there to begin
with thus tainting the memory of that book series, having the creator of something back
to work on their series is not a good indicator of quality.
So, final thoughts.
I had a small amount of hope for this movie, but it just doesn't look good based on the
trailer and the additional sneak peeks.
Kim Possible is not that hard a series to adapt.
There's nothing too terribly crazy in it that would require a crap ton of money to
produce and yet…the movie couldn't even get Drakken or Shego's skin colors right.
Nor could they apparently CGI a naked mole rat into the film.
The only decent thing I saw in these videos was the energy that Sean brought to the role
of Ron.
That's it.
Maybe you think I'm being too nitpicky.
But I'm not writing off the movie completely, not until I've seen it.
I just think it's really low effort for a company with billions of dollars in their
bank accounts.
What about you lords and ladies?
