Youtube daily about Jun 2 2017

Kia koutou.

Nau mai, haere mai ki te Pāremata Aotearoa.

Ko Jay tōku ingoa.

Hi there and welcome to Parliament.

My name's Jay, and we're here in front of one of our select committee rooms in the parliamentary

precinct.

The select committee process is a really important part of democracy here in New Zealand.

We want to shine a spotlight on the fact that anyone can get involved and have their say in

legislation in front of a committee Today we're going to meet with three very special

young people who've just presented to the Government Administration Committee.

The first two are Annabel and Alexandra.

Could you tell us - Annabel we'll start with you - why you think young people and children

should be involved in Parliament?

I feel like children should be involved because I feel like it's really important that children

get to say what they think.

How did you find presenting to the committee?

I felt nervous at the start, but once I started talking I felt better.

Awesome.

It's kind of like when you first put your hand in the pool and you go "it's freezing!"

But then you get feedback from people going "It's fine, you'll be fine once you get in"

and at that time it means absolutely nothing.

But when you actually get in you do warm up - it's kind of like that.

So we're now here with Louis.

Louis has also just presented to the Government Administration Committee on their inquiry

into captioning.

Why do you think young people and children should get more involved in Parliament?

Because they need to hear their thoughts with the Government.

Absolutely, and do you feel like they listen to you today?

Yes, I felt like they listened to me very strongly.

And you felt welcomed?

Yep, I felt welcome.

Wonderful.

A huge thank you to Annabel, Alexandra, and Louis for taking the time to come and submit

to Parliament today, and for sitting down with us to talk about their experiences.

If you want to find out more about what's happening at Parliament, check out our website

or watch a few more of our videos.

Until then, ka kite ano, and we'll see you at Parliament soon.

Everything about Airedale Terrier - Duration: 6:32.

Airedale Terriers are brave but not aggressive.

They are intelligent, independent and can be a little stubborn at times.

Mischievous and comical companions, they will do their utmost to cheer you up and make you

laugh.

In fact, it's often said that your Airedale can make you laugh and can make you cry - sometimes

at the same time!

Airedale's have a strong prey drive so shouldn't share their home with cats.

Even cats which they grew up with shouldn't consider themselves safe!

They are feisty and exuberant and, as the largest of all the terrier breeds, they can

easily knock over and hurt small children without meaning to so it is recommended that

they do not live with a family with very small children.

They can also be aggressive towards other dogs so two of the same breed should not be

kept together.

They are extremely mischievous and will act like a young puppy for the first couple of

years of their lives.

They love to dig and chew and will try to destroy their doggy bed and toys.

There is no such thing as an indestructible toy to this dog breed!

Although chews like the ones above should occupy him for a while at least!

Airedale's have a great longing for affection and need to feel part of the family rather

than banished outside to live alone in a kennel.

Breed History Originating from the Aire Valley in South

Yorkshire, England, the Airedale terrier is the largest of all the terrier breeds thus

gaining itself the title of "King Of Terriers".

They were originally bred from the uniting of the Black And Tan Terrier (extinct) with

the Bull terrier.

This was then crossed with the Otter-hound.

Farmers needed a dog which was small enough to dig into the lair of pests but large enough

to take on larger vermin such as foxes.

They hunted anything from otters, polecats, weasels, foxes, martens and rats.

Airedale's hunted around the River Aire and up until the late 19th century they were known

as the Waterside Terrier for this very reason.

They were also used in hunting and would run alongside the hounds before reaching the lair

and being told to "go to ground" i.e. enter the lair to carry out the kill.

This required a certain degree of bravery from the terrier, to fight alone underground

in the dark without an human help.

Airedale Terrier were at their most popular during the First World World when they were

used by the Red Cross to find injured soldiers and as messenger dogs to transport messages

from command Headquarters to the troops on the front line.

They were incredibly loyal and resilient.

Before the introduction of German Shepherds, the Airedale Terrier was the dog of choice

for policing and search/rescue missions.

Their keen sense of smell, dedication and easy to maintain wiry coats made them an ideal

choice.

They have also been used as guide dogs for the blind.

The first Airedale to make it to America arrived in 1881 and was named Bruce.

By the 1920s they were the most popular breed in the US.

Their numbers peaked in 1949 when they were the 20th most popular breed out of 110 dog

breeds recognised the American Kennel Club.

Vital Statistics Weight: 40 – 55 lb (18 - 25 kg)

Height: 22 - 24 in (56 - 61 cm) Life Expectancy: 10 - 12 years

Colours:

Overall tan with a black back (saddle) and black top of neck and tail

dark grizzle saddle (black mixed with grey and white)

Ease Of Training Airedale's are fairly easy to train as they

are very intelligent.

However, they are also stubborn and their idea of training may be different from yours!

They should be exercised regularly to try to limit their destructiveness.

Four walks per day of twenty minutes each is recommended.

Protection Airedale Terriers are great guard dogs.

They are boisterous and brave and will gladly take on any aggressor.

In the past they were used as police and security dogs.

Grooming The King Of Terriers has a short wiry coat

which is waterproof and resistant to dirt.

Their double coat does not shed so a helping hand is needed to remove the dead hair underneath.

A daily brush and weekly hand stripping is recommended to keep them in tip top condition.

Clipping is not recommended as it will leave the old dead hair shaft behind which makes

the dog itchy and actually changes the consistency of the hair, turning it from coarse and wiry

to soft, fluffy and bumpy which is not the desired effect.

Over-bathing strips Airedale's of their natural oils, dries out their skin and changes their

hair from wiry and mostly straight with a slight curl to very curly, soft and fluffy.

Health Considerations Airedale Terriers are a very resilient and

hardy bunch and suffer from very few ailments.

They rarely show pain so a keen eye is needed to look out for any small signs.

The following are the most common conditions:

Hip displasia Cancer

Skin Infections (dermatitis) Eye Problems

Gastric torsion/bloating (you could try using an Anti Gulp Feeding Bowl)

Bike Talk - Loris Vergier about his Santa Cruz 29er | SHIMANO - Duration: 2:43.

Hi, this is my new beast...

...a brand new Santa Cruz 29er.

We've tried to adapt it to fit big wheels.

We've changed the angle a little bit.

It has a full Shimano set up.

We have 203mm disc brake rotors...

...to try to slow the beast.

And a Saint transmission.

We've tried to adapt the whole bike with a 7-gear transmission...

...to save some weight.

Because the wheels are bigger and heavier.

It's a little bit different to ride a 29er...

...but it's still a bike, so it was not a problem for me.

But you have to change your habits and your steering to adapt to it.

This means it's going to be a little bit harder to turn, you have to be a little smoother...

...and try to adapt your speed for tight turns.

This is the major change.

Especially when it comes to braking...

...it's not possible to delay braking with a 29er.

So really try to anticipate turns...

...to slow these big wheels.

With these brakes it's rather effective.

You can see the saddle is advanced to its maximum...

...it is not to touch when you have big impacts.

Because I'm not really tall compared to Greg & Luca.

It was my biggest challenge to make the change to a 29er.

Big change this year.

Last year I was on a Specialized and it was fast.

It's a little bit different with this bike.

This year with Santa Cruz...

...it's more freestyle and hardrock...

...so it suits me a little better.

The bike is different too, it's a bit more sensitive.

It's a bit of a real bike for once.

It's a bit of a change.

But yes, I want to try to do like last year...

...finish in the World Cup top 10...

...and to be on podiums from time to time would be amazing.

And this plate number 7, I really like it.

These are my goals for this season...

...and to ride as fast as possible.

🔥 How to Be Happy: 5 Truths about Happiness 🔥 | Colleen Hammond - Duration: 18:36.

HOW TO BE HAPPY! 5 Truths about Happiness Colleen Hammond

People seem to pursue happiness all the time, but what is happiness? Today we'll

be talking about five truths to help you experience joy and happiness in your life.

Join us LIVE, M-F at 9am Eastern for "Coffee with Colleen" at Facebook.com/ColleenMHammond (Link in Show Notes)

Good morning and welcome to Coffee with Colleen! I'm Colleen Hammond. I'm a

former on camera meteorologist for the weather channel turned executive image

consultant coach and mentor a lot of questions recently about happiness so I

thought I would cover that this morning and you know people just say, "but I'm just

not happy I'm just not happy how do you how do you how come you're so happy all

the time?" and so I thought you know I pulled out some old notes and and

thought I would come up with a list of how to improve yourself and and make

this journey toward happiness go a little smoother so actually that was

yesterday's crawl so I had to delete that one

I wasn't ready with my lower third this morning so anyway number one is you

pretty much get from life which you expect so if you're running around

thinking you know I'm not happy I'm not this I'm not bad guess what you're not

because you're going to get what you expect you seek what you find you bring

about what you think about and so if you are if your expectations are that you're

going to lose you will I remember what it was working at The Weather Channel we

went on a trip and a guy used to work with Kevin I'm not going to use this

whole name because he's still but anyways still pretty big and he works

for the network level but anyway Kevin was just delightful and I enjoyed his

friendship so much but he was always seeing the glass half empty and we had

the Weather Channel we all got together weekend's a lot of us did things

together and we went on a whitewater rafting trip and the entire drive up

from Atlanta up into the mountain area he was like

you know what I just I'm so afraid I'm going to fall out I just know I'm gonna

fall out and just I'm just you know what I'm just what happens if I fall out of

the raft into the rapids and we're like lean on Kevin you're wearing a life

jacket number one you know and number two rarely do people fall out don't

worry about it yeah you guessed it we're caught up

there Rapids and I'm in the front left and we're going over and they weren't

like fives or anything I think they were like threes fours maybe so it wasn't

huge rapids but just he's getting freaked out and I hear this scream and I

turn and all I see are the bottom of his feet as he goes over backwards off the

edge of the raft you know and they tell you what to do you know they're you just

go through some rapid e areas and then they kind of levels out then you go

through some rapids and it levels out and so they're like you know you cross

your arms across your feet and you you know you just kind of stay together and

you eventually will make your way down the river and we'll just pick you up

because you have a really good life jacket on but that's one of my favorite

examples of what you think about you bring about because that's all Kevin

talked about the entire time weeks before he knew in his mind that he was

in so he his brain was like we're going to fall out of this boat and his brain

found a way to make it happen so if you expect that you're going to be average

guess what you'll probably be average if you expect that you know you're going to

feel bad about things or I'm never going to find anybody or this is never going

to work out your brain will gold this is never going to work out and it will make

sure it finds a way because you're telling it what to do in your brain is

dumb right it doesn't have a GPS doesn't have a clock it just knows what you tell

it and if you constantly tell it one thing it's going to believe you and so

your expectations for yourself you'll deliver a man but guess what your

expectations for other people get delivered too if you expect other people

to behave in a certain way and you tell them that eventually that's how they're

going to behave because that's what they hear from you

all the time so what you think about is what you bring about your expectations

become your reality so that doesn't mean I expect I'm going to be a millionaire

and suddenly a million dollars are going to appear in your bank by as you'll see

in a couple later steps if you have a plan and you expect and plan for the

best but I have a back-up plan in case things don't work out because you know

we have a map we know where we're going sometimes we end up on the shoulder you

know you're going to stay there view roadkill like I've said before are you

going to get back on your path and if you come into a construction zone does

that mean you just give up or you're like okay there's our detour so you go

on the detour that's life but you have your shiny happiness map and that's what

you're going for and you know that sometimes you're going to have a flat

tire sometimes going to be on the shoulder sometimes there's going to be

construction all the time they're going to be construction right have you ever

been on the roads lately and that's where you had so number one is if you

get what you expect from ourselves and from other people number two the

difference between average and excellent is training the only way to get to the

next step in life of whatever you want to do is to learn something new and

what's the saying if you continue to do what you've always done you're going to

get what you've already have if you want something new if you want something

different then you need to train for that you need to get yourself a little

bit more active educated you need to seek out other people and their

experiences and their knowledge and learn from other people who are already

doing the things that you want to do and see how they're doing it football teams

prepare and train and learn um oh gosh who said this last night Joanne I think

you were probably there you know I was watching oh is a pre L it was like Oprah

continues to train you don't see her sitting down you know we're all these

people that are super successful they don't stop learning they stone stop

pushing they don't stop progressing forward there's no place in life likes

to turn happiness is a journey as well so don't

we sitting on your laurels and don't just be sitting there expecting

wonderful things to happen and just sitting back you know number one yeah

expect good things but number two learn new things you know so while you're

expecting great hand things and Happiness you're learning new things as

well everybody is constantly training and

preparing for their next step in life so you know unless you do if you don't

you're operating at a disadvantage right so if you want to improve if you want to

move forward if you want to take your life form it from average to good from

good to great from great to awesome - excellent then you have to learn new

things because if you continue where you're at right now you'll you'll keep

getting what you have right now so number three just high decide what you

want to find and you'll find it maybe not today maybe not tomorrow maybe five

years from now maybe ten years from now but when you look for the good things

you'll find them it's the same thing it you know if I say okay close your eyes

and think about the color red now what is red and I want to do what do you know

about things that are red and what do you thing are you open your eyes

suddenly you'll see all the red things in the room and then if I tell you to

close your eyes and think about brown and you open your eyes suddenly you'll

see all the brown things in the room what you're thinking about is what you

find is what you see so when you look for the good things you'll find them

same thing if you look for if you think about the bad things you'll find them

it's your expectations and Vicky can speak to this you know aspire to

supportive spouses right when you look for the best if you expect the best out

of your spouse no matter what your spouse does you look through that lens

of if they're a nice person or if you don't think they're a nice person you'll

interpret things differently so we can be looking at the same thing the same

actions the same activities and how the lenses that we're looking at

we'll determine how we interpret what's going on so if you look for

opportunities to grow and prosper you'll find them now somebody else may say you

know yeah but you have a flat tire and you're on the side of the road yeah but

you know what that allowed me to do that allowed me to because you get what you

look for and if you constantly look at things as being disastrous and down yeah

exactly the key be careful what you focus on right so if you look for

positive enthusiastic support of friends like everybody that's here in the family

this morning you find them if you look for ways to cheat you'll find ways to

cheat if you look for ways to you know that your spouse is a jerk you'll find

them if you look for ways to hold a grudge you'll find them so be careful

what you think about be careful what you're looking for because you'll find

exactly what you're looking for so we have that natural tendency to justify

our own thoughts right that's why first impressions are such lasting impressions

because we will find ways to justify our thinking and you know I have children

that are in the dating age ranges right now and two of them are in serious

relationships and this is you know the brain is a funny thing you can justify

your actions and you can justify doing things yeah but we plan on getting

married so your brain will look for things to justify and cover yourself

right so if you're not careful you have to look look at the facts so live by the

foundation of your non-negotiables your virtues your beliefs your honesty your

character your integrity your faith your loyalty and your love those are the

things that when you focus on those things you will find them and when you

don't you'll be drawn to selfishness self gratification misery unfulfilled

dreams because you're sitting back and waiting for things to happen instead of

going out and making them happen anyway look for the

good and always look for a way to help other people number four don't make a

promise that you don't intend to keep it's pretty simple your word is your

bond and if you make promises that you don't intend to keep you'll have that

you we were talking about Pigpen the other day you'll have that cloud over

the top of you that you can't get out from underneath right so far too many

people make promises that they can't keep don't be one of those people stand

out in the world right and even if you have the best of intentions when you

said it you truly thought you could or maybe you just wanted to make somebody

feel better and you said it anyway but if you don't make a plan to do it it

probably won't get done right you don't have a map if you don't have a target to

shoot at you won't get it done so don't be the person that makes the promise

that they don't fulfill because ultimately you will have that cloud

hanging over the top of your head even if you don't consciously think about it

if you're a person of integrity and you told somebody that you would do

something and you don't you've got to feel bad so don't say things just to

make other people feel better unless you fully intend to fulfill your promise and

you have a plan of action and a deadline and you get it on your calendar so

that's one of the reasons I think that marriages fail is because people don't

have that level of commitment they may have the best intentions of going in you

know till death do us part unless somebody else better comes along or you

tick me off right but do they have the full intention to complete the

commitment to see it through until the end and I'm talking about abusive

situations or things like that I know don't get that confused but you know I

think one of the reasons that you know our divorce rate is so high is that

people lack that sense of commitment they they're looking for something

better maybe they jump too soon who knows but

they're not planning for the sacrifices that need to be made when they made

their promise so don't in general don't make a promise

unless you have a plan to complete that promise and number five five is finally

happiness is there if you know what to look for and one of the things to look

for is helping other people I don't feel you excuse me that anybody can be truly

truly happy unless they help other people be happy and if everybody helped

one other person be happy today two people would be happy imagine what that

would do if everybody in the planet tried to help somebody else be happy

today imagine what we could accomplish imagine what could happen so knowing

what produces real real happiness is when you help other people be happy then

happiness is multiplied so once you start to worry and what you start to

focus on the things you don't have and how horrible things are you've lost

focus in the right areas you're no longer looking for happiness you're

looking for misery you're looking to justify all the reasons you don't feel

good kind of sakes everybody has a bad day we all don't I don't have it all

together you know what you see again you see exactly what you're intended to see

and that's true for everybody's life so what you seek is what you will find and

when you seek happiness when you seek grant gratefulness would you see

gratitude and you focus on being grateful and looking for three new

things to be grateful for every single solitary day you will multiply your

happiness beyond your wildest belief just by finding but if it's one new

thing a day to be grateful for and remember to be grateful for the

little things I means I think it was Corrie ten Boom and talking about World

War two when she was in the concentration camps and she was thankful

for the fact that they had so many fleas in their barracks and there were the

barracks that she was in with the flea infested barracks and she said thank you

God for the fleas and they were like thank you God for the fleas are you

kidding me this is the worst place on the entire

concentration camp for the entire camp this is the worst building to be in

because I don't know but I'm thanking God for the fleas and because it was so

flea infested guards never came in there they were allowed to have prayer

services and and talk about things that the other prisoners weren't able to

discuss because of the fleas so don't forget to be grateful for the things

that you might not think of being the best things in the world the flat tire

the time you're in the shoulder the time your life takes a detour thank you God I

don't know why but you know everything happens for a reason

and when you start looking for things that way you get what you expect so

number one you will get from yourself and others what you expect number two

the difference from myth to awesome is training learning education go out and

find someone to learn from number three you will find in life what you look for

if you look for goodness you'll find it if you look for good friends you'll find

them if you look for opportunities you'll find them if you look for ways to

cheat you'll find that too if you look for ways that your spouse is a jerk

you'll find that too because everybody's flawed if you look for ways to hold a

grudge you'll be holding the grudge you will get what you look for and number

four don't make promises you you don't fully intend to commit to and to keep

every promise your word is your bond and if you're a person of character and you

don't fulfill that promise that it will you will carry that around for the rest

of your life and sometimes people have passed away and you can't fulfill that

promise but fulfill it with somebody else right so do whatever it takes to

complete that commitment and then finally number five happiness is

universal when you know what to look for and what you need to look for is grad

if you focus on gratitude and helping other people find happiness guess what

your happiness will explode so I hope these tips were helpful for you if

Samsung has built itself into a ginormous mobile and electronics empire, though, its

story actually starts much earlier.

How much earlier you ask uh ? It started in 1938, exactly 79 years ago.

Throughout those years the company has evolved significantly, and has brought innovation

into countless markets, going well beyond just mobile and electronics.

In this feature lets aim to explore some of the most unheard & interesting facts beyond

Korea's entire GDP, that is insane man. and it has somewhere around 500,000 employees

worldwide where as Microsoft has somewhere has around 120,000 employees worldwide.

9.Samsung Timeline:Samsung was founded in 1938 as I already told you by Lee Byung-Chul,

so what were they doing 1938, were they making cars?

Did they make one of the world's first TV or mobile phone?!!!

No...not actually...

They were selling noodles!!!

Yes noodles.

Then in late 1950s they added insurance, securities and retail in to their business.

And in 1970s they made their first ever electronic product…which is a television and their

first computer came in 1983, in 1985 their first cellphone came out , and thier commercial

cellphones were sold about 2000 units, and in 2011 Samsung became the largest smartphone

manufacturer world.

8.

Samsung logo evolution: this is

from 1938-1958 , and this is in 1960s , 1969-1979, 1980-1992, 1993-till date.

Fun fact , the stars in the logo stood for a very long time.

And the openings in the letter 'S' and 'G' is to illustrate the company's open

mindedness.

So in terms of units Samsung sold for about 325 million units in 2015 alone against 231.5

million units by apple and 106.6 million units by Huawei.

And Samsung spent $14 billion dollars for R&D purpose, where as apple spent $6billion

dollars and Google spent $9.8bilion dollars.

6.

Iphone 4 , 4s, 5 & 5s is manufactured solely by Samsung, that is over 600 million chips.

And is also the largest memory chip manufacturer in the world

5.Samsung and its group of Industries : Samsung is not just mobile and electronics , it is

made up of 80 different businesses including , Samsung Heavy Industries which builds huge

ships and Large Cranes and other big engineering projects, actually the company builds more

than 30 large ships every year. Its ship-building center is 4 Million Square feet big, which

equal to about 5,204 football fields.

4.

Samsung Techwin : AKA Hanwha Techwin, it makes surveillance, aeronautics, optoelectronics,

automations and weapons.

Top 10 Seemingly INNOCENT Things That Reveal Shocking Amounts of Information About YOU - Duration: 13:08.

Top 10 Seemingly Innocent Things That Reveal Shocking Amounts of Information About You

10.

Your Netflix Ratings Can Reveal if You're Gay

Netflix is a great service.

For a few bucks a month you get unlimited access to a constantly changing library of

content, most of which is tailored towards you.

Netflix does this with a number of algorithms that take into account what you watch, for

how long, and what overall rating you gave it, and then compares it with similar data

from other customers.

It would seem that the only real thing you'd be able to tell about someone from their Netflix

habits would be what kind of movies they like, and which celebrity they have a crush on.

However, by simply cross-referencing the data Netflix has with other sources (for example

movie reviews on IMDb), it is shockingly easy to discern someone's actual identity from

a list of movies they liked.

It is then possible to extrapolate from this data and determine someone's sexuality,

political affiliations, and where they live.

As unlikely as this sounds, a team of researchers in 2009, taking part in a competition with

Netflix to improve their algorithms, were able to learn all this and more about a bunch

of customers.

One of these customers later sued Netflix because the data (which was completely anonymous)

revealed that she was gay, something she hadn't even told her family, and she was worried

it could be used to out her before she personally felt comfortable doing so.

Then again, the lady in question had children, so we're guessing she could have denied

being gay fairly easily if she wasn't ready to tell someone.

It's for this reason that we highly advise rating every film you see on Netflix arbitrarily

to throw them off in the future.

Hey, speaking of politics!

9.

Owning a Cat is an Indicator of Your Political Views

Like choosing a video game console, or how you like your steak cooked (well-done all

the way for this author, come at him in the comments), whether you prefer cats or dogs

is a weirdly polarizing topic.

While we're sure there a number of educated guesses you could make about a person based

solely on the fact they own a cat, such as their living situation or how often they use

that Snapchat filter that makes you look like a dog, you wouldn't think cat ownership

would be an indicator of political affiliation.

Weirdly, though, there's data to support the fact that it kind of is.

As discussed in a 2014 Time magazine article, a number of seemingly unrelated things are

actually a fairly useful and accurate indicators of a person's place on the political spectrum.

While some of these things are a little more obvious than others – for example, highly

conservative people are less likely to agree that watching pornography while in a relationship

is acceptable and liberals are more likely to disagree with the statement "I am proud

of my country's history" – some are a little more… odd.

For example, for reasons that aren't quite clear, people who agree with the statement

that they prefer cats to dogs, by and large, appear to be more liberal than those who disagree,

whereas people who use Internet Explorer are more likely to hold conservative views.

Though we could chalk this up to being an interesting quirk of statistics, we feel it

would be unwise to fully rule out that the possibility that cats want us to live a socialist

utopia, free of Internet Explorer.

That's a future we'd actually be kind of curious about, which we're assuming would

be punishable by death in a cat-ruled society.

8.

Facebook Has Better Face Detection Software Than the FBI

Due to the secretive and presumably super boring nature of most of their work, the inner

workings of the FBI aren't made privy to the public and, as such, we have no idea what

awesome gadgets and technology they have access to that we don't know about.

One thing we can be sure of, though, is that they're worse at analyzing faces than Facebook.

According to statistics released by both the FBI and Facebook, Facebook's proprietary

facial analysis software is able to accurately identify a person in a photo 98% of the time.

A figure that dunks just all over the Feds, who admit that their own software has an accuracy

rating of just 85%.

Their main reason for this discrepancy is that the FBI very often only have a single

photo to go on to identify a person.

Facebook, meanwhile, often has hundreds of every person using the site, from multiple

angles, allowing them to build a comprehensive image on an individual's features.

In other words, Facebook probably has a better idea of what you look like than the people

who see you every day.

7.

Stores Like Target Can Predict When You're Pregnant

You probably remember a few years ago, a story breaking about the store Target correctly

predicting that a young girl was pregnant.

It got her in trouble when the store sent vouchers for baby stuff to her house, which

were noticed by her father, who didn't know she had a bun in the oven.

What you probably didn't hear about, or see discussed, though, is how Target was able

to do this.

Now you're probably thinking that the girl bought a pregnancy test in a Target, or something

a few months earlier, or something.

Which is a good assumption, but it's not how it went down.

The store was actually able to make the prediction based purely on the fact the girl had bought

cotton balls and some unscented lotion a few weeks earlier.

On their own these items don't seem all that unusual, but the girl's loyalty card

also showed that she'd recently also purchased mineral substances for the first time.

Again, these don't seem like solid indicators of pregnancy, but Target's vast reams of

data showed that in cases where women bought these items unexpectedly, several months later

they'd buy diapers and other baby-related items, too, suggesting that the former items

were bought during pregnancy.

This allowed the store to accurately predict that the girl was pregnant.

Of course they don't get it right every time, but the fact they're even able to

get it right once is evidence enough that humans are depressingly predictable when it

comes to shopping.

Speaking of which…

6.

Credit Card Companies Know if You'll Skip Out on a Debt Based on if You Like Birds

Credit cards are like handguns, in that you probably shouldn't let a person with poor

impulse control hold one lest they wave it around in a store and walk out wearing a floor-length

chinchilla coat.

As evil as they all are, credit card companies, like any of us, just want to get paid.

To this end, they hire people to pore through the reams of data they collect to better allow

them to predict whether a person is good for the money they borrow.

One of the more unusual predictors of whether a person will pay back a given debt is, rather

oddly, buying fancy bird seed.

As stupid as it sounds, analysis shows people willing to drop 20 bucks on premium, bald

eagle-friendly bird seed seldom ever default on a payment.

As innocuous as such a purchase seems, it's one of those things that is indicative of

a person's overall personality.

Think of it like littering, or being rude to waiters: it's a small, almost trivial

thing, but the kind of person who does it likely acts like an entitled douche in other

areas of their life.

As summed up by author Charles Duhigg:

"If you buy premium wild bird seed, you're spending a lot of money on something that

you're going to give away to birds you don't own.

They [Credit card companies] basically figured out that the types of people who do that,

pay off their credit card on time, because they feel this sense of moral obligation."

Because of this, bird seed and other such purchases are often taken into consideration

by credit card companies when it comes to deciding how much credit to give a person.

5.

Buying Underwear can Indicate the State of the Economy

The economy is a weird, nebulous entity that few people are capable of fully understanding.

That's why we're going to give you all a crash course in something known as the 'underwear

index'.

Basically, there's an observable and studied correlation between sales of men's underwear

and the current state of the economy.

In a nutshell, during times of economic hardship, men buy fewer pairs.

Which seems… well, obvious.

We all make sacrifices when times are tough, but underwear is unique in that while it's

an essential purchase, it is one that can be put off.

Economists liken it to "driving your car for another 10,000 miles instead of having

it serviced."

It's a minor choice that says a lot about the person making it.

Unlike other items of men's clothing that are purchased sporadically, underwear is a

predictable purchase, so when sales of it drop, it is a fairly reasonable indicator

of the current state of the economy.

If 10 million dudes aren't willing to drop 10 bucks on a new dong pouch, there's a

good chance that the economy they work in isn't all that strong.

4.

Whether or Not You Kiss Your Partner Before Work Can Influence if You'll Die in a Car

Crash

Few things are more intimate than kissing, and we're just going to go right ahead and

say that if there's a person out there who lets you kiss their face, all available research

says that you should be doing as much as possible.

Research has shown that men who kiss their wives before work every morning live longer,

earn more money, and are 50% less likely to be killed in a car crash.

You may scoff at this, but numbers never lie and they all point to kissing your partner

or spouse being awesome.

Now, we don't live in the Harry Potter universe, so the act of expressing your love doesn't

cast a magical bubble around you or anything.

It's more an act that's indicative of how you live the rest of your life.

Like a lot of other things on this list, kissing is a minor thing that says a lot about your

overall personality, with people who do it the most being more likely to be hold a positive

outlook on life (sad people are notoriously bad kissers).

Psychologists believe that kissing your partner each morning is a strong indicator that you're,

overall, a positive person, which in turn suggests you live a healthier lifestyle, which

in turn suggests you'll live longer, earn more, and be less likely to drive into a ditch.

Again, it's not that kissing magically fixes all your problems, but if you have someone

in your life you care about romantically, it's probably not a bad idea to do it more.

The worst that can happen is you get to grab a handful of butt, which is always great.

3.

Owning an iPhone Makes You a Terrible Person (According to Android Users)

The internet has a collective throb on for anything that involves making fun of iPhone

owners, which is why studies like the ones we're about the quote often go viral when

they're released.

For example, in late 2016 a study was conducted that found that iPhone owners, in general,

seem to display lower levels of "honesty and integrity", a finding that was gleefully

touted across the web by avid Android users.

While the study did indeed find a seemingly concrete correlation between personality and

the brand of phone a person had in their pocket, to the point the lead researcher said they

could predict what type of phone a person used based on a simple, unrelated questionnaire

with about 70% accuracy, it's not the whole story.

One thing that was mysteriously left out of all the articles slamming iPhone users is

that the study also showed that iPhone owners were more likely to be female, have a degree,

and earn significantly more than their Android using peers.

Which goes hand-in-hand with data showing rich people tend to be douchebags anyway,

due to a sense of perceived entitlement.

2.

Using Twitter Means You Have Shorter Relationships

Most everyone these days uses social media.

The internet has resulted in a noticeable increase in the amount of people being joined

at the hip, with anywhere between 5 and 10% of long term relationships today beginning

online, depending on your source.

With the advent and subsequent removal of the stigma surrounding online dating, the

sites that offer the service have an unbelievable amount of information related to the world

of getting our freak on with the opposite sex.

One of the more unusual things people parsing through the endless reams of data sites like

OKCupid have is that there's a link between relationship length and the use of Twitter.

Though nobody at OKCupid is exactly sure why this is the case, the site's co-founder

has explained that the data shows a "measurable and consistent" difference between the overall

length of Twitter users' relationships compared to those who don't tweet that much, or at

all.

The key thing here is that this only seems to apply to people who use Twitter all the

time.

You know, like those people who always Tweet pictures of their food and stuff.

Numerous theories have arisen about why exactly this seems to be the case, ranging from shorter

attention spans of Twitter users to an increasingly narcissistic society.

Or, you know, it could just be that people who use Twitter all the time are kind of boring

to be around?

Anyway, erm, why not follow us on Twitter?

1.

Simply Liking the Taste of Beer Means You're More Likely to Put Out on a First Date

Sex on the first date is a weirdly antiquated taboo that, nonetheless, has a huge social

stigma surrounding it.

But lets say that, like 99% of people in the world you, our viral young (or young at heart)

reader, like sex and want to be matched with someone who similarly likes doing the horizontal

hug.

All you have to do is ask if they like the taste of beer.

Again gleaned from data released by OKCupid, the site found that among users of all ages,

genders, and sexualities, the single biggest signifier of whether they would consider having

sex on a first date is if they responded positively to the question "Do you like the taste of

beer?"

There's no data about why exactly this is the case, but we're guessing that it has

something to do with those people spending their first date getting hammered.

Oh, uh, totally unrelated… happy St. Patrick's Day, everyone!

Wink, wink.

Interestingly, while the beer question was the only accurate signifier OKCupid could

find that indicated a woman would enjoy some intercourse a few hours after meeting someone,

for men there were a few more… interesting results.

For example, the site also found that men who'd find the prospect of nuclear annihilation

exciting, can imagine themselves taking a life, and would feel comfortable launching

a nuke were also more likely to have sex on a first date.

Then again, if you're comfortable ending the world in a nuclear holocaust, we're

guessing the taboo about touching genitals moments after meeting isn't something you'd

be all that concerned about.

Let's Chat About... Crazy Taxi | The Chattering Gamer - S01 E07 - Duration: 11:06.

fuck crazy taxi yeah as you might have guessed I'm not the biggest fan of crazy

taxi as far as I'm concerned the game is a frustrating mound of dog feces and now

I'm going to tell you exactly how I arrived at this conclusion so let me

tell you a story when I first powered this game up I was actually pretty

excited to play the game I had obviously heard of crazy taxi before has been one

of the best games on the Dreamcast and I had heard nothing but good things about

it so I was pretty stoked the game loaded into a comprehensive but

uninspiring menu it does its job but it certainly doesn't inspire me to play the

game so when you look at this menu you are met with three gameplay options

arcade original and crazy box there is almost no difference between arcade and

original other than the city is a bit bigger in arcade mode if I hadn't used

the internet I wouldn't have been able to notice a difference between the two

crazy box is the interesting mode where you have to complete nine or more

predefined challenges I'll be getting to this later

so I dived into the first mode arcade now this mode is essentially classic

Crazy Taxi you pick up your customer and take them back to your place for a rough

shag that's a different game what I meant to say was that you pick up your

customer and transport him/her it to the destination this as it turns out is

easier said than done the basic controls are ok

you have your accelerator you brake your steering and a gear select well I say

gear select it just amounts to choosing to go forward or backwards when you

accelerate the steering is twitchy as hell and I know this is a very arcade

game but it made the game so infuriating especially when trying to navigate

through large groups of traffic more than once I went to make a small

steering correction that ended up with me veering into oncoming traffic

so when you selected a game-mode you get to choose your cabbie you get a choice

of four different characters axel B.D. Joe Gena and Gus each one with their own

cab now I play there's all four cabbies and I've yet to come across any

difference between them apart from those of the cosmetic kind no different stats

no different driving styles required it's quite disappointing actually I have

heard that you can get special cars for each of the different cabbies but I

couldn't stomach the game for long enough to find out now the most

interesting game mode by far is the crazy box mode in this mode you are

tasked with completing specific objectives which require you to use all

of your driving talents along with some special techniques that you're not told

about anywhere in the game seeing as I'm playing frist through emulation

obviously I don't have an instruction manual now I think but please correct me

if I'm wrong down in the comments of this video but the instruction manual

would have told you about these special techniques as it was I had to go to the

internet to find out anything about these driving techniques and then when I

did finally find out what these techniques were they had deceptively

simple ways of pulling them off I say deceptively simple because I could not

get these techniques to work reliably with the exception of a few techniques

there is no visual feedback that tells you that the technique is being

activated successfully the crazy - for instance I was doing it exactly as the

instruction said and I have no idea if they take me activated or not either way

this is the main thing that got me frustrated but it's only one of the

reasons I'm not a fan of this game the other reason is that there is no story

it is purely an arcade game there's no overarching narrative there is no

background for the cabbies that has any depth to it

in short the game has no real substance past its core gameplay mechanic I

probably mentioned this before but I don't like games that don't have a story

behind them it's why I dislike games that are purely online multiplayer the

very fact but this game has no story and have

gameplay that I find seriously frustrating means that I won't be

picking it up again any time soon the only part of this game that I actually

like is the soundtrack it's got quite a few offspring songs on the tracklist

which is great because I really like the offspring the offspring of one of my

favorite bands in the world but to be honest with you all of the songs in this

game I own the album's that they're you know I own the albums that those songs

are on so there's nothing to actually keep me playing the game in the audio

department either I really dislike this game it has nothing that appeals to me

whatsoever in any way shape or form and nothing that hooks me to keep playing

for past about half an hour so I'm trying something a little bit different

in this video this is the end of the talky bit of the video but what I'll be

doing now is I'll be putting up some completely uninterrupted footage just so

Joe: Why Is GOP Complaining About Leaks Now? | Morning Joe | MSNBC - Duration: 6:40.

2016 POLITICAL ELECTION. >> IT'S UNBELIEVABLE.

IT'S HARD TO FATHOM. MEANWHILE THE INVESTIGATION

CONTINUES IN CONGRESS. THE HOUSE INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE

ISSUED SEVEN SUBPOENAS IN ITS INVESTIGATION OF RUSSIAN

MEDDLING, INCLUDING INTO LEAKS ABOUT THE STORY.

FOUR SUBPOENAS ARE RELATED TO TRUMP'S INNER CIRCLE INCLUDING

MICHAEL FLYNN AND PERSONAL ATTORNEY MICHAEL COHN.

WHILE THE THREE OTHERS WENT TO THE NSA, FBI AND CIA SEEKING

INFORMATION ON ANY REQUESTS, UNMASKING REQUESTS IN CLASSIFIED

MATERIAL MADE BY FORMER NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER SUSAN RICE,

FORMER CIA DIRECTOR JOHN BRENNAN AND FORMER U.N. AMBASSADOR

SAMANTHA POWER. A DEMOCRATIC AIDE TON

INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE TELLS NBC THAT THE UNMASKING SUBPOENAS

WERE SENT UNDER THE AUTHORITY OF REPUBLICAN CHAIRMAN DEVIN NUNES

WHO RECUSED HIMSELF FROM THE RUSSIAN INVESTIGATION BUT IS

STILL INVESTIGATING LEAKS OF CLASSIFIED MATERIALS.

THIS WEEK THE LOS ANGELES TIMES REVEALED THAT NUNES TOLD A

REPUBLICAN FUND-RAISING DINNER IN APRIL THAT DEMOCRATS WANT A

RUSSIA INVESTIGATION TO JUSTIFY HILLARY CLINTON'S LOSS.

>> THEY WANT TO CONTINUE THE NARRATIVE THAT VLADIMIR PUTIN

AND DONALD TRUMP ARE BEST FRIENDS AND THAT'S THE REASON HE

WON BECAUSE HILLARY CLINTON COULD NEVER HAVE LOST ON HER OWN

AND IT HAS TO BE SOMEONE ELSE'S FAULT.

THEY HAVE TRIED TO DESTROY THE RUSSIA INVESTIGATION, HAVE NEVER

BEEN SERIOUS ABOUT IT. ONE OF THE GREAT THINGS ASIDE

FROM THIS RUSSIAN INVESTIGATION, I CAN FINALLY SAY WHAT I WANT TO

SAY. >> JULIE PAGE, IT'S INTERESTING

TO WATCH WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE HOUSE INTEL COMMITTEE.

DEMOCRATS WANT TO LOOK AFTER DONALD TRUMP AND THE PEOPLE

AROUND HIM AND REPUBLICANS MORE FOCUSED ON THE ISSUE OF

UNMASKING. IF YOU LOOK AT THE THREE

SUBPOENAS THEY PUT OUT OF NATIONAL SECURITY AGENCIES.

THERE'S EVEN INSIDE THIS HOUSE INTEL PANEL A DIVIDE ON WHAT THE

PROBE IS. >> EXACTLY.

THIS IS PUSHED BY THE WHITE HOUSE.

THEY WANT REPUBLICANS IN THIS PUBLIC HEARINGS IN PARTICULAR TO

NOT BE ASKING WITNESSES ABOUT RUSSIAN INTERFERENCE IN THE

ELECTIONS OR POSSIBLE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN TRUMP

ASSOCIATES AND RUSSIA. THEY WANT THEM TO ASK QUESTIONS

ABOUT WHO IS LEAKING INFORMATION TO THE PRESS, WHO IN THE OBAMA

ADMINISTRATION MAY HAVE BEEN UNMASKING THE IDENTITIES OF

TRUMP CAMPAIGN OFFICIALS. PUSHING THAT DOES NOT MAKE THIS

STORY GO AWAY IN PART BECAUSE, AS WE MENTIONED EARLIER, TRUMP

HIMSELF CONTINUES TO TALK ABOUT THIS ON TWITTER.

WHEN WE WERE TRAVELING ABROAD HE TALKED ABOUT THE LEAK OF

CLASSIFIED INFORMATION TO THE RUSSIANS THAT CAME FROM ISRAEL.

EVEN IF THE WHITE HOUSE TRIES TO INSTITUTE A POLICY WHERE THEY'RE

NOT ASKING QUESTIONS AND TRYING TO PUSH THE CONGRESSIONAL

QUESTIONING IN A CERTAIN DIRECTION, AS LONG AS THE

PRESIDENT HIMSELF CONTINUES TO WEIGH IN ON THIS, THIS IS GOING

TO MAKE THIS MUCH MORE DIFFICULT FOR THEM AND IT'S GOING TO

CONTINUE TO STIR CONTROVERSY. >> MIKE BARNICLE, YOU HEAR DEVIN

NUNES TALK THERE AND HE'S PARROTING WHAT DONALD TRUMP

SAYS. HE'S BEING A DUPE FOR DONALD

TRUMP WHO KEEPS GOING BACK TO, OH, THIS WHOLE RUSSIA

INVESTIGATION IS TRYING TO JUSTIFY HILLARY CLINTON LOSING

THE ELECTION. I DON'T KNOW ANYBODY THAT THINKS

THAT. NOBODY IS CONCERNED ABOUT

HILLARY CLINTON LOSING THE ELECTION IN THESE

INVESTIGATIONS. WHAT THEY'RE CONCERNED ABOUT IS

RUSSIA'S INFLUENCE IN THIS COUNTRY AND THE FACT THE TRUMP

ADMINISTRATION HAS HAD MEETING AFTER MEETING AFTER MEETING WITH

RUSSIAN OFFICIALS AND THEY HAVEN'T DISCLOSED THEM OR

OUTRIGHT LIED TO THEM. I JUST WONDER HOW MUCH WORSE THE

REPUBLICAN PARTY IS LOOK AND HOW BAD ARE THEY GOING TO LOOK IF

THEY HAVE THESE INVESTIGATIONS AND YOU ACTUALLY HAV HAVE RUSSI

INTERFERENCE AND A CYBER WAR AGAINST AMERICAN DEMOCRACY

WHICH, BY THE WAY, WAS DR. BRZEZINSKI'S FIRST TWEET WARNING

THAT THIS WAS COMING. HOW BAD WILL IT LOOK IF WE HAVE

RUSSIA TRYING TO SUBVERT OUR DEMOCRACY OR DEMOCRATIC PROCESS

AND ALL THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT ARE LEAKS AND UNMASKING.

>> IT GETS TO THE QUESTION THAT EVENTUALLY THE REPUBLICAN PARTY

WILL HAVE TO AS A POLITICAL ENTITY DEFINE WHAT THEY STAND

FOR IN THE YEAR 2017. WE DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY STAND

FOR BECAUSE THEY ARE LARGELY SILENT IN THE WAKE OF EVERYTHING

YOU JUST SPOKE TO. AND THE FACT IS THAT THE TRUMP

WHITE HOUSE TODAY IS TOTALLY PREOCCUPIED WITH ONE THING.

IT'S NOT THE PARIS ACCORD. IT'S NOT AFGHANISTAN.

IT'S RUSSIA AND THEIR INVOLVEMENT WITH RUSSIA AND THE

PRESIDENT'S PERSONAL INVOLVEMENT WITH RUSSIA.

IF YOU LOOK AT HIS TWEETS OVER THE PAST COUPLE DAYS, THERE'S

ONE TWEET EITHER YESTERDAY OR THE DAY BEFORE WHERE HE

BASICALLY ACCUSES JOHN BRENNAN AND JAMES CLAPPER OF LYING UNDER

OATH. IT'S ABSURD, THE CONTINUATION OF

THIS SPECTACLE INVOLVING RUSSIA. >> WELL, IT'S ABSURD AND ABSURD

THAT, MIKA, THIS MAN WHO, AGAIN, A DEMOCRAT UNTIL 2011, UNTIL HE

DISCOVERED BIRTHERISM, HE TAKES OVER THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IN A

HOSTILE TAKEOVER, AND NOW THEY'RE JUST FOLLOWING HIM OFF

THE CLIFF. >> IT'S AMAZING.

>> I DO WONDER, THE NEXT TIME A REPUBLICAN COMES ON ANY SHOW ON

ANY NETWORK AND THEY STA START BITCHING ABOUT LEAKS FROM THE

FBI, I WOULD ASK THEM, WHAT DO THEY SAY WHEN THERE WERE LEAKS

COMING OUT OF THE FBI REGULARLY DURING HILLARY CLINTON'S

INVESTIGATION INTO HER E-MAIL SERVER FOR OVER A YEAR?

WHERE WERE THE COMPLAINTS THEN? WHERE WERE THE COMPLAINTS WHEN

LEAKS WERE COMING OUT OF THE FBI DURING THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION?

IT HAPPENED ALL THE TIME. IT HAPPENED WITH THE CIA.

THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. SO NOW SUDDENLY THEY'RE MOREE

CONCERNED ABOUT THIS. THEY WEREN'T CONCERNED ABOUT IT

WHEN IT WAS HAPPENING AGAINST HILLARY.

SUDDENLY WE'RE SUPPOSED TO STOP, WE'RE SUPPOSED TO SAY WE DON'T

CARE THAT RUSSIA INTERFERED WITH OUR DEMOCRACY.

IT'S A JAMES CARVEY, LOOK AT THE BIRD OVER THERE, LOOK AT THE

BIRD OVER THERE. NO.

WE'RE GOING TO KEEP L
