UK weather to be hotter than Tenerife with sweltering 28C temperatures – but torrential rain and thunderstorms could soon sweep the country
BRITAIN is set to be hotter than Tenerife with 28C temperatures today – before being battered with rain and thunder as three weeks worth of rain could hit in one hour.
Forecasters have warned people to make the most of the sunshine with rain and weather warnings issued across the country in the coming few days. London News Pictures The first day of June has been bright and warm for most in the UK.

A Met Office forecaster said: "Friday may reach 28C but very warm and humid air from France could see thundery, torrential downpours, with 25-30mm of rain in an hour and surface water.
"It's a mixed start of summer. Temperatures will be down to around 21C on Saturday and the high teens on Sunday, after a weather front moves in.
"There will be showers on Saturday and Sunday, with the North and West affected most but the South and East also at risk, with a higher risk on Sunday.
A yellow weather warning has been issued for the east of the country with the "risk of torrential downpours on Friday afternoon and evening".
The Met Office say: "Whilst most places will miss the worst, it could lead to localised surface water flooding and difficult driving conditions. Frequent lightning and perhaps hail could be additional hazards..
Over the weekend it is likely to feel breezier, fresher but still pleasantly warm with sunny spells and showers, heaviest most likely in the northwest. A band of more persistent rain is possible on Monday.

Forecasters said the UK has enjoyed one of the warmest springs in over 100 years. It is likely to rank among the UKs top five hottest since records began in 1910, the Met Office said.
The average spring temperature in England is expected to be confirmed as 908C — a massive 1. 4C hotter than average. It was only hotter in spring 2011 when the average temperature between March 1 and May 31 was 9. 15C.
A Met Office spokesman said: We could also see a top ten ranking for sunshine hours — which are around 12 per cent above average at the moment. Rainfall has also been generally below normal this spring.
Brits will be hoping the good news continues into the summer with warmer than average temperatures expected.
The best of todays weather will be seen in London and the south east where it could get as hot as 27C. Birmingham will see it peak at 23C along with Manchester.
Met Office forecaster Grahame Madge said: Its going to be a largely bright, sunny and dry day for most of England and Wales.

Saturday will see more in the way of showers in the east but elsewhere itll be largely clear and dry. Thats pretty much the pattern for the next few days — with a mixture of sunshine and showers across the country.
The unsettled weather will last into midweek with stronger winds and heavy rain arriving by Wednesday.
