Behind the design: An engineer's tour of Surface Studio - Duration: 5:54.

Coming up

We look at the design and craftsmanship of Surface Studio.

Our new category of device.

Enabling new modes of productivity.

When we set out to design the Surface Studio,

Our goal wasn't just to create an all-in-one desktop.

We wanted to deliver a transformative desktop experience.

Whether you are multi-tasking between applications

or have specific creative needs

requiring a large work Surface

and the highest level of color accuracy.

Our engineering vision

was to develop a floating sheet of pixels.

And we wanted to achieve all of this

with a minimalist design

that makes the hardware disappear

as you experience the device.

If we tour the device from the top to the bottom,

you'll see that the display is a centerpiece of the device experience.

The pixel sense display is 28 inches.

As we wanted it to be as large as possible

yet well balanced between the hinge and the base.

At 12.5 millimeters thick,

this is one of the thinnest

touch enabled LCD monitors of this size ever built.

Our goal was to achieve life like resolution and color.

It's 4500 x 3000 resolution gives you 13.5 million pixels.

That's 60% more than you find on a 4k monitor.

It's 3 x 2 aspect ratio allows for almost two extra inches of verticle space.

And it means if you said app scaling at 100%,

pages, texts, illustrations and photos on screen

are exactly the size they would be when printed.

We call this true scale.

To ensure best in class color accuracy

we calibrate each Surface Studio

individualy in the factory

to deliver a color gamut

with vivid DCI P3

and SRGB, critcal if you were working with videos and images.

Inside the display is our pixel sense technology for touch and pen.

10 point multi touch allows me to interact naturally with my app.

I'm in studio mode here at twenty degrees.

As I switch to the pen,

you can see the inking is fluid.

This pen is the same pen

used by the rest of the Surface device family.

Additionally, we design Surface Dial.

As a companion accessory to Surface Studio,

it allows you to use your free hand to easily access application controls

without breaking your creative process.

The pixel sense display uses capacitive touch

and a custom digitizer optimized to recognize

Surface Dial's unique digital signature

with pin point accuracy

wherever you place the dial on the screen.

As we looked at how we deliver our natural interaction

we also focused on the quality of communication

to deliver great movie, music and Skype experiences.

We developed the 1080P HD front facing camera

with a five degree negative tilt

to capture your best likeness.

And of course it has built in infrared camera

for facial recognition with Windows Hello.

And lastly,

we engineered an 8 driver sound bar in the display

for high frequencies.

Matched with dual low to mid-range speakers in the base.

Studio delivers Dolby audio premium quality sound.

Now let's look more at the mechanical structure of the display.

You'll notice that as I interact with the display,

it's natural for me to lean in on the device

just as you would if you were an artists interacting with a canvas.

Despite it's thin profile,

we needed it to be both solid and capable of changing angle with a light press.

We solved this first by adding three internal stiffening plates

bonded to the aluminum cover.

This additional strength

works to translate the emotion of the display to the hinge.

To balance the movement of the screen,

we also developed a zero gravity hinge.

The three independent spring systems

connect via multi-bar linkages

engaging just enough counter balance to offset gravity.

This makes the 13 pound screen feel weightless.

Moving on to the base.

You'll notice that at 1.3 inches in height

it's a very slim unit.

It houses the main motherboard

and even the power supply

as Surface Studio runs on AC power.

The cable is locked in place

so that you can move the device without losing power.

To remove the cable,

pull back on the shroud to unlock it

and remove it from the base.

We use Intel's 6th Gen processors

and offer three core configurations.

Each with discreet graphics.

An i5 with 8 gigabyte of memory

and two i7 models with 16 and 32 gigabytes of memory.

Hybrid drives provide 1 terabyte and 2 terabyte capacity.

And paired with 64 gigabyte

and 128 gigabyte solid state drives

they deliver high speed redrive access.

Importantly, it's thermal design is purposely engineered

to provide a stable, quiet, cool base for the display

while providing reliable performance.

We incorporated three fans into the compact base.

Fan controlled algorithms provide thermal balancing

matching fan speed

with the thermal power for low fan noise.

So that's a quick engineering tour of the new Surface Studio.

I've shown you what differentiates the experience.

But it's also worth mentioning that Surface Studio

has a comprehensive array of ports

to work with your existing peripherals

and can be locked into place with this optional custom design Kensington lock.

I hope that you get to experience the device for yourself.

Thanks for watching.

Sarah Palin Sends Bernie Sanders An Unexpected Message After The Virginia Shooting - Duration: 12:34.

Sarah Palin Sends Bernie Sanders An Unexpected Message After The Virginia Shooting

A deranged man shot a few Republican Congressmen including Steve Scalise.

However, the only one who died was the shooter, James T. Hodgkinson.

It turns out Hodgkinson was a HUGE Bernie Sanders fan and even volunteered on his campaign.

People are now asking if angry liberal rhetoric, telling liberals that everyone that disagrees

with them is hateful, is responsible for this shooting.

Does Bernie Sanders share any of the blame for this shooting?

According to Sarah Palin, she does not.

"Prayers for healing are raised for all victims of today's horrific violence, while

we with lift up thankfulness that lives were not lost.

While justice is now sought upon the capture of the deranged attacker, an additional prayer

must be for no acceptance of a rush to destroy anyone else in this horrible incident,"

said Sarah Palin in an interview with Breitbart.

"Those seeking political advantage reacted so recklessly and irresponsibly the last time

a member of Congress was brutally attacked, as media inexplicably played a knee-jerk blame

game assuming that attacker's motives.

Today's shooter appears to be a Bernie Sanders supporter and campaign volunteer.

But Bernie Sanders is not to blame," explained Palin.

"Maybe the media have matured enough to allow coverage of this most recent violence

to focus on facts, because media integrity will be crucial as America witnesses today's

events unfolding and, on behalf of our Congressional Representatives, we all

seek justice," said Palin.

How Automation Creates A Constant Stream Of Seller Financed Deals With No Money Down - Duration: 9:42.

Hey, this is Joe Crump.

I'm going to show you in this video how automation, how the Automarketer, will create

a constant stream of seller financed leads, people that are selling their home, who will

be willing to take zero down, not require your credit in order to sell you their property.

I'm going to, I've talked a lot about the different structures and the hierarchy,

but in this I'm just going to show you where these leads come from and how it happens.

This is the Automarketer section of the Pushbutton Automarketer.

This is the main part of the system and each, these two campaigns come as defaults.

Now, you can set up as many campaigns as you want, you can have campaigns that go to different

areas that target different types of people, that send out different types of messages,

but there are two default campaigns that are here that work very well and all you have

to do is turn them on and get them going.

And I'm going to show you real quickly how to do that.

But I want to show what this stuff means first.

Now, first of all, there's two types of campaigns.

One is it sends out a single text blast and asks people if they'd be willing to sell

their home rent to buy rather than selling it outright.

And it just sends one campaign, one text and then it stops.

The other one it creates a series of text blasts that go out and this one goes out over

a three month period and I'll show you that one in just a minute, but I want to show you

that I, you can limit how many go out and it gives you a guesstimate on what the price

is going to be if it sends out 10,000, but it's not going to send that many out very

quickly.

This is how many it scraped over the last couple of weeks and it's sent out 118 of

the ones that it scraped.

Now, the reason it's sending out fewer than what it scrapes is because many of these are

duplicates, or one's we've sent to before within the last seven days and you can click

on this little button here and it'll tell you it's either an ad that's a duplicate,

it doesn't have a phone number in the ad, or it's been contacted in the last seven

days by the Automarketer.

Now, out of 118 that were sent, and that cost about $2.95 to send, we got 67 leads.

And that ends up costing about 7¢ per lead, if you figure the other expenses in addition

to sending them out which is you have to pay for phone minutes as they come in as well.

So, 67 leads.

That's a 56.78% response rate of people that we're sending out to, which is absolutely

phenomenal.

If you're working as a direct marketing person, you know that one half of one percent

is actually a pretty good response rate, so to get 56% response rate is incredible.

Now, I'm not going to say yours is going to do this and it's going to stay this way

forever, but typically we'll see, you know, anywhere from 10%, you know, to well, 75%,

because I've seen really high response rates on these things.

But even if you get 10% response rate on this you're still doing pretty well with this

type of thing.

And also, in the text blast we've got URL's.

We've got the clone sites.

So they can click on a link and that link has a tracking mechanism on it that allows

us to know how many people that we sent to clicked on that link.

And we see that they had 99 clicks from 52 unique people.

And so we have an idea of that we're getting responses and they're going to the clone

sites and when they go to the clone sites, the clone sites sell them on the idea of working

with us on our rent to buy basis and if they fill out the form on the rent to buy form,

then we have a very good idea that these are very qualified leads and they're really

ready to go.

We also send out texts that don't have URL in it, that only asks them to respond to us

by text.

And that's why we have more leads than we do clicks.

Now the way this works is, it's, once you start this campaign up and make it active,

then it's going to run every day or however many days you tell it to run and it's going

to continue to run once a week, once every three days, once every two weeks, you decide

the amount of time.

And I'm going to show you real quick how that works.

On this first page you can give your campaign a name and you can, you can create new campaigns,

and these are the default campaigns.

You can select the number that you want to send it from and you can buy as many phone

numbers as you want.

So you can send from any phone number that want.

So if you're sending it to say, Indianapolis, you want to use a 317 area code which is an

Indianapolis area code.

If you're calling into Los Angeles, you may want to try 213 or a 310 area code or

an 818 area code.

And you can use the phone number in the phone system to call from so that when they get

your message it looks like you're a local person no matter where you're doing this.

Which means that you can do this remotely and this whole system allows you to scale

up and work in any area that you like.

So, what I've picked here is Housing For Sale By Owner, and this is a category in craigslist

and we're looking at Indianapolis, Indiana.

So these are the areas that I'm asking it to do.

And you can pick as many areas as you want for it to scrape.

Just don't get so many that you can't handle the leads that are coming in because

you will get a good deal of leads as you're going through this.

This puts the maximum on it so I know that I'm not going to go over this particular

price at any particular time.

If I want to just hit "unlimited" then it'll continue to send out for as many as

I want or as many as it, until I turn it off.

It'll also send out the blast for this set up, it's every day, it'll go in there

and it'll scrape all the new ads, and then it'll send out that text blast to those

new ads and it'll add them to this three month sequence.

So, if I wanted it to run every two days or every five days or every fourteen days, I

could do it between one and fourteen days, and it'll send out based on that.

So it's pretty cool, right?

And I know this looks complicated if this is the first time you've seen this and just

getting your head around what it does.

I mean, going to craigslist, scraping that information, For Sale By Owner's and people

that are selling their homes for rent.

And then sending out a text blast or a voice blast to those people and getting them to

respond.

And then taking those leads and putting deals together with those leads.

It's a pretty simple concept once you understand the overall concept, but there's lots of

opportunities to modify and change this in a lot of different ways if you choose to.

So don't be intimidated by it.

The only thing that you have to do is start, go to the Automarketer, which is going to

open up this page here, and you're going to click on, it's going to say "inactive"

when you get it, and you're going to activate it and then you're going to go into this

section here and you're going to pick the number that you want to use.

If you haven't bought a number, you're going to have to buy a number, so you'll

go to the phone system and buy a number, it's very easy to do, you're going to pick the

category that you want, although this is already set as a default and then you're going to

pick the city and state or states that you want to work in simply by clicking on this

button and picking from the drop down menu, or typing it in, if I want to go to Los Angeles,

you know, pull up Los Angeles and I can pick then, the different areas that I want.

Also, you can leave this as it is, you can leave this as it is, and that's all you

have to do.

Then you can go back and you'll wait, it'll probably take fifteen minutes, a half hour,

before it'll start sending out leads and then hopefully within the next couple hours

you'll have leads coming in.

We find that leads come in usually within ten minutes, fifteen minutes after they start

going out.

So, it's pretty exciting to see that stuff happen and start getting leads that you can

talk to immediately.

Now the big skill with investing is learning how to talk to these sellers, understanding

the structures and being able to do that.

I've got tutorials in this system that'll show you how to do that and it'll show you

how to put these deals together.

It'll show you how to talk to these sellers.

The biggest challenge that my students have now that we have the Automarketer is not getting

leads anymore.

The biggest challenge is learning how to put the deals together, talk to the sellers in

a way that they trust you.

Now, if you don't know what you're talking about, you're going to sound incompetent.

And if you sound incompetent, they're not going to trust you and they're going to

think that something's wrong.

They won't necessarily know it's not that you're not competent, they'll think that

you're trying to scam them.

So, learn how to speak coherently and fluently and help them solve the problem that they're

having which is selling their property and do it in a way that's going to make them

more money and be better for them than anything else that you do.

Anyway, these leads can make you a lot of money and you can turn them on and you can

keep working them every single day that they come in.

So I hope you enjoy working with the system.

How To Apply For A Job As An English Teacher - (Teaching English as a Foreign Language TEFL) - Duration: 5:41.

what's the best way to apply for TEFL jobs

TEFL related jobs are available in cities towns and beach resorts in dozens

of countries spread right across the world but what is the best way to secure

the right position for you unfortunately there is no simple answer as it varies

from one region to the next here we look at the main job hunting strategies that

you can use to find and land that dream job teaching English abroad online job

application if you're looking for a job outside the country you're currently in

then using online searches is a common option there are many job boards online

that post available positions from countries worldwide the majority of

these jobs will be in regions where the demand for teachers is so high that

employers are happy to hire teachers without the need for a face-to-face

interview these are most likely to be found in Asia the Middle East and

Eastern Europe once you have found a job or several jobs that interest you simply

fill in the application form online or send in your resume and wait for a

response if successful the next step will probably be an interview via Skype

or even telephone the great benefit of this method is the security you get by

having a job already in place before you leave your home country on the downside

there is always a risk in accepting a position without actually seeing where

you will be working or meeting your fellow staff members the best advice

here is to ensure that the contract is very clear on important issues such as

salary working hours contract length and issues involving early termination of

your employment in the worst case scenario that the job is not all you

hoped it would be you will at least be in a good position to look for new

employment from within the country recruitment companies another popular

option for ensuring you have a job before you leave your home country is to

apply via a recruitment company many employers

particularly in the Middle East and Asia use outside recruitment companies to

fill their available teaching positions the upside of this method

apart from job security on arrival is that it can reduce much of the hassle

involved in organising the whole process including visas work permits and other

paperwork the downside is that a small proportion of these companies are less

than reputable so you should always do your research and ensure that you are

clear on all the terms of the contract before assigning also worth considering

are government sponsored programs to operate in some countries the two most

popular programs are the jet program in Japan and the epic program in South

Korea both of which recruit large numbers of teachers every year to work

in state schools these programs tend to be quite competitive so you will need to

meet certain criteria to have a chance of being accepted local job application

being in the country where you are looking for work clearly has many

advantages over applying from abroad this approach generally provides many

more options then you will find online and also allows you to visit the school

and talk to current teachers before you make any decisions applying for jobs

locally can be a great way to land a job in any country worldwide and is

realistically the only way in certain regions such as latin america in parts

of europe where few jobs are posted online unfortunately this approach does

require adequate funds to see you through to the first paycheck and it is

hard to know how long that might be if you are not yet TEFL qualified it is

worth considering an in-class TEFL certification course in the region where

you are keen to work this will allow you to get used to your new environment

and also research the local employment market whilst becoming qualified most

course providers will also include some level of job hunting assisting

that can prove valuable in kick-starting your teaching career of course you are

not restricted to using only one method of finding a teaching position once you

have decided on a region you could sign up for a TEFL course in that area

contact recruitment companies to see if they have any openings and also send up

your resume to jobs you have found online the more options you explore the

better chance you will have of landing the perfect teaching job to suit your

plans

and in this video I'm going to

share with you how to deliver

an opt-in with ConvertKit.

Be sure to stay until the end

so you can grab my free PDF full of all of my favorite tools

and resources I use for my business.

alright so when you log into ConvertKit

scroll down and we are going to create a form so click on create form and then

right here you can choose either a landing page or a form we're going to go

with form you can choose which form style you want I always like to use naked

so I'd like to change out the text from subscribe to something like

download and then I like to change the button color so it matches my branding I

have a separate video for this that I will link above and now we're going to

go to settings and inside settings this is where you want to change your form

name this will be only what you will see so change it to you know whatever your

opt-in is that's how I like to use mine and then in here for the message you

want it to say something like hey and check your email to receive your freebie

or download or opt-in or whatever you like to call it

and then what you do is

you click on this incentive email and this is how you can deliver your opt-in

I like to go ahead and just change everything as far as the subject goes it

will be your email subject your message you can just say something like hey

click the link below to confirm your subscription and download your freebie

or opt-in or whatever you like to call it again it has lots of different names you

could even just put the name of the download there and then here you can say

something like download the whatever it is as you can see I have all of the

different ones I have used before I always like to get rid of this and

just keep it simple so right here we're going to hit incentive download and I'm

going to upload a file right here and this is... that's it... that's all you do so

you hit save so now you have it there and you want to put it on your website

you come in here to embed and you can choose either JavaScript or raw HTML or

WordPress depending on where you have it I use the raw HTML because I'm on

Squarespace so I just copy this code and put it into a code block on Squarespace

and that way it can be on my website and go with all of my branding and be fine

so that is how you can deliver and opt-in with convertkit but now I'm going

to teach you a very very very very very very VERY helpful tip on how to make

this process simpler for you the next time you need to create a opt-in form in

convertkit so if you go to other options right here you can click duplicate this

form so we're going to duplicate it and now you have a copy and it says copy of

you know whatever it was and then all you have to do is come in to this new

form and say you know call it what you have changed all of the verbiage for what

it needs to be but most importantly you go to incentive email and then you want

to make sure that you change out your opt-in for your new opt-in so I'm just

going to change this real quick upload another opt-in so that it can be there

and then I'm going to hit save so hopefully that's helpful for you

so now you know how you can create your own form and deliver it with ConvertKit

if you'd like to learn about all my favorite tools and resources I use for

my business click the link below this video

and you can just started right now

Add an R visualization to a story: SAP BusinessObjects Cloud (2017.10.1) - Duration: 3:49.

Using the R open-source programming language in our stories,

we can perform statistical analysis and create visualizations that reflect those results

using a variety of techniques such as linear and nonlinear modeling, time-series analysis, and clustering.

Note that, to add R visualizations to a story,

we must have an R server running and configured to connect to SAP BusinessObjects Cloud.

This connection is set up by an administrator, and includes the server address and port number,

a certificate for encryption,

and user credentials. If we test the configuration,

we can see that the R server is running and ready to process our requests.

In our story, we can add the R Visualization object to the canvas.

An empty R visualization is added to the canvas page.

Now we need to specify what input data we want to run the script on.

If a data source has already been added to the story, it will be used by default.

Otherwise, we need to select a model.

Note that remote models cannot be used as input data,

and any hierarchies in the selected model will be flattened.

If we expand the panel,

we can see the default dimensions, with the associated data displayed in table format.

Since, in this example, there is only one version,

we will remove the Version dimension from the table and convert it into a filter.

Now we will add all the other dimensions to the table so that all data in the model is available.

If desired, we could also create a calculation input control

that would enable users to modify values going into the visualization on the fly.

Note that input controls can currently be based only on static lists of numbers.

Once the input is set up, we can define the script itself.

Again, we will expand the panel.

Here, we have access to a layout that follows the same basic format as R Studio,

providing a familiar environment for running scripts.

It includes an R script editor, a snapshot of the environment after the R script is run,

a console that shows the output of the executed script,

and a preview screen that renders the visualization.

If we need help to get started with R,

we also have access to a code snippet that lets us list all the installed packages on our R server,

and to several examples.

We will add our script to the Editor pane.

Note that, in the Editor pane, we can search for specific terms in our script, and undo or redo changes.

In this example, the script itself includes statements that load the packages needed for the rest of the script,

a series of formulas that sum up values from the input data,

and instructions on how to render the associated chart.

When we execute the script,

the variables from the output are listed in the Environment pane

(where we can search for terms or filter on data, values, or functions),

the output from the executed script is displayed in the Console pane,

and the visualization is rendered in the Preview pane.

If we then apply our changes,

the same chart is rendered on the canvas.

Note that any row-level security on the input data is respected

when it is presented to users in the visualization.

If we need to make adjustments, we can also edit the script.

Thanks for watching!

Dr. Brookbush presenting "Building an Optimal Model of Practice" at the NASM OPTima Conference - Duration: 1:18.

This is Brent, President of the Brookbush Institute of Human Movement Science

and Master Instructor for the National Academy of Sports Medicine bringing you

"Building an Optimal Model of Practice," that is, how we go about

building the best effin' training approach ever. That's effin' for

functional, now. What are the historical references we need? What are the logical

constructs we need to build on? What is the evidence that we need to consume?

And what is the research and testing that we need to do to continue approaching the

best possible training and corrective exercise approach? That's what I'm

teaching in this lecture. What are the pitfalls that we need to stay away from,

the fallacies that we get caught up in and what is it that we should be

studying and learning and consuming to ensure that we keep this thing moving

forward? I look forward to seeing you in Scottsdale, Arizona at the NASM

Optima conference. I hope you will come to this presentation as well as all of

my presentations. Talk with you soon.

NOT JUST BEES, TREES ARE DYING OFF AT AN ALARMING RATE WITH LITT - Duration: 7:02.

NOT JUST BEES, TREES ARE DYING OFF AT AN ALARMING RATE WITH LITTLE PUBLIC ATTENTION

In the background of modern life, as people go on debating politics and working for a

living, something dreadful is happening to the eco-systems which support us.

Major disasters like the ongoing radioactive leak at Fukushima, the apocalyptic fires burning

throughout Indonesia, even bee colony collapse disorder, seem to fall out of view in day-to-day

life, as we seem to have lost our power and will to directly participate in the stewardship

of planet earth.

A new crisis is now happening all around us affecting trees.

It appears that millions, hundreds of millions even, of trees are dying in North America

and around the world from a basket of reasons, promising to completely and permanently alter

the landscape and environment around us.

Tree are among the most abundant and the most critical organisms on planet earth, and only

recently have we been able to assess just how many trees inhabit planet earth.

A study published in 2015 gave us this picture:

A new study published in Nature estimates the planet has 3.04 trillion trees.

The research says 15.3 billion trees are chopped down every year.

It also estimates that 46% of the worlds trees have been cleared over the past 12,000

years.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced today that the U.S. Forest Service

has identified an additional 36 million dead trees across California since its last aerial

survey in May 2016.

This brings the total number of dead trees since 2010 to over 102 million on 7.7 million

acres of Californias drought stricken forests.

In 2016 alone, 62 million trees have died, representing more than a 100 percent increase

in dead trees across the state from 2015.

Millions of additional trees are weakened and expected to die in the coming months and

years. [Source] A New York Times feature on trees in California

warns us that many of the states trees were already dead before forest fires moved

in, thereby making the fire situation worse.

Beyond California

Many of the tree deaths in Northern California have been linked to Sudden Oak Death in addition

to an ongoing drought, but, the tragic die-off of trees is far from limited to California.

In 2010, Hawaiis well ohia trees began to die on the Big Island due to a disease

now referred to as ohia disease, and scientists still dont understand its origins or how

to treat it.

These are just a few examples of many in a wave of issues killing trees in many parts

of America and around the world.

The plight of the ohia is not unique its part of a quiet crisis playing

out in forests across America.

Drought, disease, insects and wildfire are chewing up tens of millions of trees at an

incredible pace, much of it driven by climate change. [Source]

Entire mountainsides are dying off in short order, leaving a bleak future for wildlife

and residents.

Some speculate that the widespread loss of trees due to such a wide conflagration of

issues is a sign that trees, the most rugged of all plants, are in general weakened from

an environment under complex attack by pollution and even climate engineering projects.

In California and in other parts of the world, many are making the connection between

climate engineering these tree die-offs.

Also known as geoengineering, this is the modification of the earths atmosphere with

the supplementation of compounds and chemicals, ostensibly as a means of favorably influencing

the climate.

Could be, although there is nothing like a consensus on the issue of why trees are in

such a weakened state that so many are succumbing to so many issues.

A Planet Out of Balance

Natural ecosystems have been altered in various ways by nitrogen, sulfur, and mercury

deposited in rain, snow, or as gases and particles in the atmosphere.

Through decades of scientific research, scientists have documented how local, regional, and global

sources of air pollution can produce profound changes in ecosystems.

These changes include acidification of soils and surface waters, harmful algal blooms and

low oxygen conditions in estuaries, reduced diversity of native plants, high levels of

mercury in fish and other wildlife, and decreased tolerance to other stresses, such as pests,

disease, and climate change. Issues in Ecology, Fall 2011 Edition Setting

Limits Using Air Pollution Thresholds to Protect and Restore U.S. Ecosystems

The web of life cannot be damaged in one area without the effects being felt elsewhere.

Just as bees and other insects are dying off en masse by a number of causes, some known

and unknown, trees are also harbingers of the health of our planet.

With such little attention given to the state of this earth and so much attention given

to the human and political dramas that occupy our attention 24/7, will the human race wake

up and react in time to avert a major planetary crisis?

What are your thoughts on this important and pressing issue?

Things About Cars You Only Notice As An Adult - Duration: 5:36.

Yet another entry in a long line of blockbusters for Pixar, Cars tells the story of a cocky

race car named Lightning McQueen who learns there's more to life than racing.

Like a lot of Pixar pictures, it also presents a richly detailed world—this one entirely

populated by cars and other vehicles.

Kids who were mesmerized by the movie in 2006 are now old enough to notice its many other

layers—including adult jokes, obscure references, and even some disturbing things about life

in the Cars universe.

Parental pandering

There aren't any outright dirty jokes hidden in the G-rated Cars, but there are a lot of

suggestive ones for the parents that surely sailed right over the heads of its five-year-old

fans.

For example, Lightning McQueen is a famous race car, and he's got the groupies to prove

it.

After his big race at the beginning of the movie, two red cars named Mia and Tia proclaim

to be his "biggest fans" and then literally flash him…their headlights.

Later, in the sleepy town of Radiator Springs, Lightning meets Sally, who has a "tribal"

style "tattoo" just above her bumper—the Cars equivalent of the "tramp stamp" lower-back

tattoo.

In another scene, Lightning tells Tow Mater that Doc Hudson was once a three-time winner

of the Piston Cup ...

"He did what in his cup?"

There's even a subtle visual gag or two, such as a sign on the side of a road advertising

the "Top Down Truckstop," with "convertible waitresses."

Clever casting

The names of characters—and the actors hired to play those characters—offer many references

that only parents in-the-know, old movie fans and car enthusiasts would be hip to.

For example, Doc Hudson is voiced by Hollywood legend Paul Newman, who also raced cars professionally.

Countercultural icon George Carlin voices Fillmore, a seemingly stoned Volkswagen bus

"I'm tellin' you, man — every third blink is slower."

Champion race car the King is voiced by Richard Petty, the NASCAR legend known as "The King."

Even Click and Clack, hosts of NPR's Car Talk, have cameos as the owners of a company sponsoring

Lightning McQueen.

Gearhead gladiators

Spinouts, collisions, and accidents happen frequently in real-world auto racing events,

but the cars are so packed with protective equipment that drivers rarely get hurt.

The vehicles take a lot of damage, but fans don't think too much about it because those

cars don't feel pain.

But the cars do feel pain in Cars.

So even the most minor racing incident is more or less a horrific injury.

A blown tire?

That's the equivalent of a shattered foot.

Viewed this way, the aggressive racing style of some of the cars equates to gladiatorial

combat with the intent to harm or even kill.

Auto bodies

In creating the Cars world, everything about the human world had to be translated into

its car equivalent: "cow tipping" has been replaced with "tractor tipping," and Flo's

V8 Café serves gas and oil rather than food, for example.

But not everything works.

One big example of this is how Lightning McQueen travels from race to race: he's hauled around

in the back of a specially-built truck, just like a real race car.

But because this is the world of sentient cars, that truck is a living thing named Mack.

This means Mack's job is to drive down the freeway with the famous speedster parked on

his back the whole time, or literally allow him to dock inside of his body, depending

on if you want to take the car-as-corpus analogy to just the kid-friendly surface level or

to the depths of body horror madness.

Gas or gastronomy?

Pixar is well known for peppering its films with well-hidden jokes and Easter eggs, and

Cars is no exception.

Ever since its first appearance in Toy Story, the beat-up yellow Pizza Planet delivery truck

has made an appearance in several Pixar movies.

But only in Cars does the pizza delivery truck get to be a living creature with eyeballs

and a mouth, implying that the cars in the Cars universe eat pizza with those grotesque

tongues as well as drink gas and oil, unless humans were in the picture at one point.

Which brings us to ...

Auto apocalypse?

Kids can watch Cars on a surface level: cars do stuff, cars learn lessons, cars race.

Older people, however, may be left wondering: how and why is the world of Cars this way?

It's about a place almost identical to 21st century Earth, only everything is built for

cars rather than humans.

But they also enjoy human culture based on real-world things.

Radiator Springs is situated on Route 66.

Fillmore lived through a version of the '60s much like our own.

There's a reference to famous pinstriper Von Dutch.

They even speak English, except for Guido, who speaks Italian.

So what's going on here, exactly?

Does Cars take place in an alternate dimension in which cars are the dominant species and

humans don't exist, or is it some kind of post-apocalyptic, post-human earth in which

cars evolved to a place of sentience and just adopted what was left behind by the now-extinct

human race?

Auto erotic

While it's unclear how the cars of Cars come into existence, it's implied that it's done

biologically.

Lightning McQueen and Sally flirt a bunch and are clearly into each other.

Mater and Holley Shiftwell become an item in Cars 2.

Ramone and Flo of Radiator Springs are married ...

"Yeah, look at my husband, y'all!

Whoo!

That's your color!"

"Yeah, no baby!"

This all strongly suggests that at least some of these cars bump bumpers on the regular—a

biological imperative that surely leads to the pitter-patter of little hot wheels.

Entering 'The Mist' Official Featurette | Introduction to the Series - Duration: 2:29.

- Mother Earth is never wrong.

(screaming)

She knows what she's doing,

and so will we if we observe her.

- Look me in the eye

and tell me you don't see evil!

(ominous music)

- Wow, it's beautiful.

- The show is based on a book called "The Mist"

by Stephen King.

On one hand, it's the story of a

seemingly innocent mist that one day drifts into

the small town of Bridgton, Maine.

And on the other hand, it's a more character-driven story

about a family facing its own worst fear when

the daughter is sexually assaulted,

the parents are torn apart in an argument.

- My family's at the mall, I've gotta get to them.

- There's a group stuck in the mall,

and there's a group that ends up in the church,

and then even within there,

partnerships and alliances start.

- What do you want?

- And also, people's true natures start to come out.

- The basic functions of a town are no longer working,

so the things that you take for granted every day

are wiped out.

- It's like all rules of the norm are out,

and you're going stir-crazy, and there's not enough

food and supplies, and it's like every man for themselves.

- Pretty soon it becomes clear that whatever is in the mist

is not natural, and if you walk out there you will die.

- What happens if a society becomes ruled by fear?

- Ready for it?

- I think it's just such a great metaphor to

the world right now.

Everyone just gripping with fear and anger.

- Do you have something to confess?

- I don't think there's a show out there

quite like this one.

- I think that's the most exciting thing about the show,

is these sort of very strange, psychological moments.

- All the characters, especially as you

continue in the episodes, are all so fully drawn.

- When I went out there for you in the mist,

I could feel it in every part of me.

- Once people see the first episode,

they're gonna wanna see more and more and more.

- I think that it will be very engrossing for an audience,

just to follow what happens to all these people

in this small town.

- If you were in this situation,

what would you do to survive?

- It's coming!

Qolsys IQ Panel 2 - How to Add a Duress Code - Duration: 3:33.

hey everybody geoarm security here and today we're going to show you how to add

a duress code to the Qolsys IQ panel 2 wireless security system now I'm going

to show you how to unlock the duress code so that you can input it into the

panel when you do this it's also good to let let us know let our technicians know

at geoarm that you have added this and then it's a good idea to have this

tested as well to make sure that the signals are indeed coming through to the

Central Station also if you have an activation appointment for a IQ panel

too you can also bring this up to the attention of our technicians where we

can remotely activate this for you but just to show you how to do it because we

do like to educate our client base or potential customers all you do is select

from the home screen select settings advanced setting I like to enter in the

dealer code which is 2222 we do have videos showing you how to change the

installer code from default as well as how to change the dealer code from

default so make sure you check those out there will be links in this video so

from here you select installation

security and arming and then you would see duress authentication so by default

it is not checked off so all you would do is select this box checking it off

you can select back user management and now you will see that the duress user

has been added so it's a good rule of thumb to select edit and you'll see that

it gives you a default it gives you a default user code and and everything so

but it's a better idea for you to change it to something you would truly remember

so from here you're going to erase this and you could put whatever you want but

for me I'll just go ahead and put one three seven nine select enter and one

and then clear everything out here one three seven nine select okay save and

you can go back so now just to give you a brief brief background of what a

duress code is and what the advantages are of a duress code so let's say you

have your system armed you're coming home from a long day's work you open

your front door which is on a delay and all of a sudden somebody comes from

behind you and tells you to disarm the system so if your normal code is one two

three four to disarm the system then that would disarm it but what the duress

code does is you go in and then you hit the one three seven nine because you

remember this duress password the system will look as if it's disarmed and it'll

actually send an alarm duress signal to our central station where we will then

automatically dispatch the police to assist you while you're under duress

hence the name duress code and that's how you add a duress code to the Qolsys

IQ panel 2 wireless security system make sure to subscribe to our YouTube

page and click the show more tab underneath the video where you can view

valuable links pertaining to this product similar how-to videos and our

low-cost no contract alarm monitoring services

An Atlantic Exchange Event – Talent Management Chapter 6: Shifting paradigms to retain employees - Duration: 1:46.

So one of the things I think that from the beginning the founders did really well, and

one of the things that I fell in love with, was this idea of creating homes for fitness

instructors.

Years ago, and even to a certain extent now, the industry was very fragmented and you'd

teach two spin classes here and then be running to teach two bootcamp classes there and then

yoga classes here.

And What they found was that these instructors weren't making homes and building community

in any one place, they were more worried about their next paycheck than they were about creating

community, and so they offered them basically full time jobs to come and be SoulCycle instructors.

And Ultimately it translated so well in that they became brand ambassadors because they

not only had a salary but paid vacation, retail allowances, 401k, career trajectory and other

benefits that were typically reserved for more corporate employees.

Again the product is the people and so making sure that our instructors really feel like

this was their home has been critical to our success.

Our retention rate is in the north 90s instructors over the last six years or so.

And a lot of that has to do with you know the youth of the company, we're hiring a lot

of people every year.

And We're relocating instructors into new markets, which is really rewarding.

But ultimately to your point about scouting, Brent's a great scout for us in Chicago.

If he sees someone or if he's taking another class somewhere, he's going to let us know.

They really become part of the DNA and the fabric of the communities and also our culture.

And That I think ultimately is why they love to be a part of it.
