My basic way to writing music . Building blocks and formulas . By Darren Burch
Hey how are you? My name is Darren Burch and what a lovely surprise to see
you. What a beautiful day it's Saturday here at the moment. In
Istanbul. Now if you're liking any of my contents please hit the notification

Yes. Now when it comes to writing music the first thing I do is I carry a
notepad with me right and I'll write everything down on a notepad but also I
record the tune on there right so if you're walking down the street or or
you're just washing dishes or whatever you're doing driving the car. Carry your
phone with you. Because when you come up with a tune. All right.
Record it alright. Because if you don't. When you come back. When you
comes back to your song. your thing
hmm I've got the lyrics written down but how does that tune go again
I've gotten how that tune goes. alright. So it's very important to keep carry
both your notepad and your phone. But you also can write your song on your phone
But I tend to write on my notepad because I'm always scribbling it's like
oh yeah I can write on my notepad faster than I can on my phone yeah and
when it comes to writing songs I do two different ways one I write the lyrics
first and then I add the rhythm or I do the rhythm or I add the lyrics alright
so I'll be sitting there and I'll just with my open mind and and I'll think of
a song and I think oh and I'll play around the guitar and I'll come up
with aa tune. I think oh that sounds good and you start playing along and you start
adding the lyrics and you start writing the lyrics down right and you start
building it you start creating the song and songs ah ah basically it's a formula
right it's mathematical alright it's like building blocks so when you
put a song together you it's like you're putting piecing it together
that's how songs are made right you've got your chorus lead you got your
rhythm and you got your instruments you got you add it all together
Right. You piece it all together and you can change your building blocks around
You can change the song around you can put the beginning of the
song to the end of the song you put you can put it in the middle you can chop it
in half you can add your lyrics at the beginning add them into the end or you
can just have no chorus at all to sing your whole song right through and no
chorus so you can do whatever you want remember you're writing the song you can
do whatever you want. All right and the other thing the most important thing is
when it comes to writing songs. Never give up because that's where a lot of
people go wrong they'll start singing it writing a song they'll get halfway
through a song and they'll just give up all right and they never finish it no I
must say there's been a lot of cases where I've almost given up a lot of my
songwriting but I hadn't I'll give you an example there was one song I wrote
lonely alright so it was a bit of a bland song
it was a good song but it was it was something missing you know so the
following day I bought myself a little banjo and I added that in. I started playing
the banjo. I went for it. And it sounded great I thought wow
so this is what I'm saying. Right. If your sound doesn't sound good. Don't give up
keep writing a song because those notes all those tunes will come to you all
right it may not come to you now they might
come to you again when you rewrite the song a year or two years down the track
but never give up right that's what a lot of people go wrong
they give up and never finish this song right don't worry about what other
people think it's all about what you want to do and here right that's what's
more important right least you're being creative
and enjoying now you can write songs about current of current events things
that you've already done or things that you down in the past that's easy because
you've already done those events you know you've already done those things so
writing a song about those different topics or those type of topics is easy I
but I I love to write stories right so none of my songs are true all right so I
write songs stories and I write a tune for my story I mean I do write some some
songs that are that are true yes don't get me wrong is one yeah and there
are some songs that I have of or some songs that are written which are
actually kind of current affairs current events of things that I've done
yes in the past right and also I write songs using loops now writing loops or
putting songs together using loops is very difficult very difficult because you've
got to find the right loop and the right tune to that end right and again its
mathematical right if you don't put the right tune or the right link in or the
right sounding note that goes with that tune it could sound quite disturbing to
the ears all right and again you can play around with it
it's quite fun I use GarageBand. On...I used to use it on my iPad and a lot of
the guitar and and all it was automatic so with all the instruments were added
for you this is great now I use GarageBand on my laptop and they don't
they don't do that for you so you got to play pretty much play all the
instruments yourself except the loops right the loops are done for you or you can
create your own loops which I've done too in the past all right Oh a lot of
phone message here right and sometimes people tend to put too many instruments
in a song they can sound too busy and it won't sound um if you're an expert . You
can do that great but sometimes less is better all right this is better so there
you go I hope that helps and have a lovely weekend it got any questions
please leave them down the comments section there I will reply to you and
what else what else anything else no I think I've covered it all right I catch
you guys later and have a lovely weekend and thank you
very much for your support and your lovely comments and I better go I've got
a new song coming up it's going to be called never give up it's gonna rock
your socks off
