Amy Goodman: Our next guest has been called "the Elvis of cultural theory," widely

considered to be one of Europe's leading intellectuals.

Slavoj Žižek is a philosopher, psychoanalyst, cultural theorist.

Born in Slovenia, he has written more than fifty books, speaks to sold-out audiences

around the world.

In 1990, he campaigned unsuccessfully to be president of Slovenia, the first Yugoslav

republic to hold a free election.

He's in New York right now to give a lecture tonight called "Resist, Attack, Undermine:

Where Are We Forty Years After '68?"

The event opens this year's Left Forum.

Slavoj Žižek joins us here in the firehouse studio.

We welcome you to Democracy Now!

Slavoj Žižek: Thank you very much.

I am honored to be here.

Amy Goodman: When I asked you specifically how to pronounce your name, you said you're

nervous about people who pronounce it correctly.

Slavoj Žižek: Yes, because I —- no, but this is more a private trauma, like I don't

like to see myself.

Whenever I see myself, like there on the screen, I'm tempted to adopt the position of an

observer and ask myself, if I were to have a daughter, I would never allow that guy to

take me to a movie theater.

So -— Amy Goodman: But you also said you would be

concerned if it was pronounced exactly, that perhaps that person came from the police.

Slavoj Žižek: Yeah.

Effectively, yeah, because only they really know.

You know, this is at least my East European myth, that police are the ones who know.

Amy Goodman: This is a radio and a television and an internet show, broadcasting all at

the same time.

We showed, during Charlie Haden's music break, coverage of Prague in '68.

This had an enormous influence on you.

For an audience who would not even know what those two connections are — Prague '68

— explain what happened.

And where were you?

Slavoj Žižek: It's like, by chance, I was very young at that point.

I was in Prague.

But OK, so that we don't lose time — there is something really tragic about Prague '68,

namely — let's be very frank, and it's something very hard to swallow for a leftist.

What if the Soviet intervention was a blessing in disguise?

It saved the myth that if the Soviets were not to intervene, there would have been some

flowering authentic democratic socialism and so on.

I'm a little bit more of a pessimist there.

I think that the Soviets — it's a very sad lesson — by their intervention, saved

the myth.

Imagine no Soviet intervention.

In that ideological constellation, it would have been either, sooner or later, just joining

the West or, nonetheless, at a certain point, the government is still in power, would have

to put the brakes.

It's always the same story.

It's the same in — now you see my conservative, skeptical leftist side.

It's the same in China, Tiananmen.

I will tell you something horrible.

Imagine the Communists in power giving way to the demonstrators.

I claim — it's very sad things to say, but if Tiananmen demonstrations were to succeed,

like the Communist Party allowing for true democratic reforms and so on, it would have

been probably a chaos in China.

No, I'm not saying now that we should opt for dictatorship or some kind of a strong

arm as the only solution; just let's not dwell in safe illusions.

I think all too often today's left falls into this play, which is why they like to

lose.

And I think this is the original sin of the left, from the very beginning.

I — and I still consider myself, I'm sorry to tell you, a Marxist and a Communist, but

I couldn't help noticing how all the best Marxist analyses are always analyses of a

failure.

They have this incredible — like, why did Paris Commune go wrong?

Trotskyites.

Why did the October Revolution go wrong?

And so on.

You know, this deep satisfaction — OK, we screwed it up, but we can give the best theory

why it had to happen.

I mean, this is what my title, the title of tonight's talk, implicitly refers to, this

comfortable position of resistance.

Don't mess with power.

This is today's slogan of the left.

Don't play with power.

Power corrupts you.

Resist, resist, withdraw and resist from a safe moralistic position.

I found this very sad.

Amy Goodman: The second part of the topic, "Resist, Attack, Undermine: Where Are We

Forty Years After '68?"

Talk about what you see as the pivotal moments in '68 and where we are in relation to them

now.

Slavoj Žižek: It's a very nice question.

Why?

Because precisely a propos '68, I think, we can see how — I will use consciously

— an outward ideological struggle is still going on.

Struggle for what?

'68, it's the same as right here, one or two weeks ago, a wonderful commentary on

Martin Luther King, how every child knows here "I Have a Dream."

Almost nobody knows what was that dream.

It wasn't just racial equality.

Martin Luther King moved way to the left later.

That's obliterated.

It's the same with '68.

If you ask people today, what will you get?

Ooh, that wonderful explosion of creativity, anti-bureaucratic, sexual liberation, and

so on.

That's, for me, precisely the least interesting part of '68.

That's the '68 which was perfectly integrated into today's ideology, self-expression and

so on.

So if you want to draw the line, one line from '68, it is what, for me, as an old-fashioned

guy who likes erotics but with love, is the nightmare.

Today's legacy of that '68 is alive.

And, you know, they have in California, and now it's spreading to Europe, a terrible

thing called masturbatathon.

People gather, you masturbate publicly, you're not allowed to touch the other, and, of course,

each one has to pay some money, which goes to politically correct causes and so on.

And the idea, it's like self-expression: you are alone, but in a crowd.

This kind of — this is what I don't like.

But there is another '68, where people — about which people don't want to talk.

The crucial moment, I remember, it went — something incredibly happened: students, thousands of

them, demonstrating, establishing a link with workers.

People tend to forget that France was in a general strike, that this wasn't just a

student demonstration.

Everybody would have swallowed that.

So that legacy of '68 is worth saving.

So it's not simple nostalgia.

If we indulge a simple nostalgia for '68, it means sexual revolution and all that, so

I will tell to those guys, "Go to masturbatathon.

Leave me alone."

No?

What — '68 was a dream, and it failed, a dream of the possibility of these student

protests reaching a wider audience.

Of course, the game is over.

My dream is not "Let's do it today in that way."

Unfortunately, I don't believe there will be a working-class movement which will join

with students.

But there are still domains today, where what?

Let me ask you briefly — sorry, answer you briefly.

What's the serious question today?

I mean, it's fashionable to make fun of Fukuyama now, "Ooh, that idiot who thought

history is over."

But aren't we all today de facto, even the leftists — what would be the adverb — Fukuyamaists?

Basically, we believe — nobody asks the question, "Will capitalism stay?

Will States stay?"

We basically accept the frame.

Liberal democracy — as you know, in the old days, we were saying we want socialism

with a human face.

Today's left effectively offers global capitalism with a human face, more tolerance, more rights

and so on.

So the question is, is this enough or not?

Here I remain a Marxist: I think not.

I see a series of, to use this ridiculous old-fashioned term, contradictions, or I would

have said antagonisms, tensions, from ecology, intellectual copyrights, new slumps excluded,

where I think in the long term the global capitalist system will not be able to cope

with these tensions.

Here is the true legacy of '68.

Amy Goodman: And now we're in 2008, and right here in this country, in the midst of

this presidential race.

I don't know how long you've been in the United States right now, but you are —

Slavoj Žižek: No, but I follow you [inaudible].

It's the talk of the world.

This may amuse you.

It's going to — when I was asked by a academic journal to say if I were to hold

the power for one day as president, what — and I would have kind of absolute power to introduce

a law, what law that would have been?

My immediate answer was not as some humanist suggested, since United States at least thinks

they are a global empire, so let every adult in the world be allowed to vote; my advice

would be the opposite one: let's everybody in the world, except US citizens, be allowed

to vote and elect the American government.

I think it would have been much better for you, even, because we all outside the United

States would project our desires into how you should be.

I think it would have been better, so that only non-Americans vote for —- I know this

is a nightmare from Pat Buchanan or somebody like that, but -—

Amy Goodman: And who do you think would win?

Slavoj Žižek: I think there would have been like left of Barack, if I may put it this

way, no?

It would have been probably not.

But going seriously, no, of course, I am — my god, it's stupid to say — for Barack and

so on.

But I see a tragedy here, because like let's say he wins.

What will he do?

The tragedy of today's left is what?

It's always the same story.

Lula in Brazil, Mandela even.

The good guy wins, we are enthusiastic, then you have around two years usually of period

of grace, and then you have really to decide — do you play with global capitalism, or

do you want to mess with it?

With this, I am not saying it doesn't matter.

Barack Obama can do things.

There are many important gestures, like Guantanamo, stop with these waterboarding jokes, open

relations with Cuba, recognize this would be incredibly important, recognize the Hague

international tribunal.

I will tell you from my European perspective, this was perceived in Europe as the worst,

let's say, ethical, political catastrophe of the United States.

First they push for international court, then they sabotage it.

People ask today, why are such crazy nationalists in Serbia?

I'll tell you.

I spoke with them.

They told me, first, United States push — they are still — sorry, I will be very brief

—- putting pressure on us, deliver Milosevic, Karadzic, all the criminals to Hague.

Then, the same people, time and -— Amy Goodman: Ten seconds.

Slavoj Žižek: Yeah.

And sign the non-extradition treaty.

So you are digging your own grave.

Amy Goodman: Slavoj Žižek, I have to break right now, but we're going to continue our

The very beginning of the welfare

system was the passage of the

Aid to Dependent Mothers

early in the New Deal.

And you know what?

It was perfectly reasonable.

What did they have in mind?

Francis Perkins was secretary of

labor at that time and

she had in mind widows -

widows with small children.

And they needed help!

What is a more natural object of

our affection?

When the stock market

crashed in 1929,

the world entered the

Great Depression.

After his election in 1932,

Franklin D. Roosevelt

instituted federal reforms

to help the poor,

including cash assistance for

single mothers.

With 20 percent

unemployment in America,

massive public works projects

strengthened families by providing

employment in a difficult time.

"I pledge myself to a new deal for

the American people!"

Roads, public parks,

dams and bridges were built,

tying work directly to assistance.

But even President Roosevelt

realized that there was a limit to

what the government could do.

President Roosevelt certainly said

often that welfare was not intended

to be for a lifetime and not

intended to replace work.

And to the extent that we've gotten

away from that sentiment in

some of our programs,

that's unfortunate.

"The lessons of history,

confirmed by the evidence

immediately before me,

show conclusively that continued

dependence upon relief induces a

spiritual and moral disintegration

fundamentally destructive to the

national fiber.

To dole out relief in this way

is to administer a narcotic,

a subtle destroyer of the

human spirit.

We must preserve not only the bodies

of the unemployed from destitution

but also their self-respect,

their self-reliance and courage

and determination."

It all started out so innocently.

And if I'd been alive then,

I would have been in favor

of it then.

But it ratcheted up very slowly.

Even by the end of the 1950s,

the welfare rolls were small.

The amounts of money were small.

Welfare really was not at that time

an attractive way to try to live.

NORBERG: Roosevelt remained true

to his convictions,

and phased out emergency public

projects as the economy improved.

From the 1940s to the 1960s,

poverty fell dramatically in the

United States.

I see in the night it states and we're going to we're going to pick up we left

yes it's beautiful here in Kansas too this dive just a few clouds and nice and

sunny at 81 degrees most Tuesday I'm not sure when this was going to error but

today's Tuesday all right so just wanted to welcome you

guys welcome the audience thanks for listening and let you know in advance

we've been working on trying to get up to speed on some of this stuff we are

new to doing the podcast and it's been reported back to us so we're having some

auditory issues and sound issues on the patio Matic side as well as I decided

text that at least one of the podcasts was cutting off and somebody was trying

actually didn't talk about Southern California too much as hoping to get a

little bit of spring California today maybe some Hawaii Arizona New Mexico and

maybe Texas if we if we can get that much in today we'll see okay but it's

not what about Nevada too and that is right there next Arizona no excellent

yes I forgot about blue meta and if there's people in Utah lucky we

might talk about st. George I don't know we could do a whole podcast just on the

greater st. George area so let's see what we can do we've got about 3540

minutes we're going to try and get as much done as we can debate and then

we'll pick up where we left off on that one the next time we have Joel on it

again this was Joel's idea to talk about what I see in the United States and then

he also suggested that we talk about what I see in the world six students for

the broadcast that I do with Jill that that's Orthodox in external podcast

recordings with my guest Joel alright so we left off in California I wanted to

add I didn't I didn't add everything you know as far as disasters but just think

about everything that could possibly happen as far as natural disasters go

and you're going to see that all over the world in some areas more than others

like mudslides because excess rains or lots of snow that melts and causes

mudslides or sometimes earthquakes with lightning and thunder and tornadoes and

then that causes moisture so I wanted to mention that because I don't want people

to think that just because I don't mention it it won't happen I can see

already people are going to go she never said anything about an earthquake in you

know such and such place for instance I haven't talked much about earthquakes

happening in Idaho or other other volcanoes of things but they will they

will happen there we'll talk a little more about Idaho later and you know just

because I don't say it doesn't mean I don't see it or doesn't happen and just

because I don't don't say it doesn't mean I have seen it or have power

haven't seen the other way I don't know if I've seen everything I guess I seem a

lot they show me enough to give me an idea some of the things are going to

happen and some specific things in certain areas and I I know basic

geography in areas that I've never studied these maps I don't I don't get

on the internet and study the topography or the geography of the United States or

of the world this is all stuff that's just been shown to me in usually

starting in night vision and then I have follow-up day visions that go along with

it sometimes now in the last couple years I

more of it in day vision and there's lots of different types of businesses

you have so with with Northern California I see

I pointed ad I do see mudslide popping they're also flooding we're going to

have mass amounts of flooding and then in other areas and in some places

sometimes the exactly location where we had flooding in the United States will

then later have droughts and famines so just think of everything that's talked

about in the scriptures and we're going to live through it in the seven years of

tribulation I'm going down to Southern California we pick up with the foreign

troops coming in first meeting land coming on to the shore the first the

fourth first boots on the ground that I see come into the Los Angeles area going

north through through Los Angeles they also come through by air as they

parachute down on the land so they come in by submarine and vote mostly

submarine and then parachuters coming down paratroopers and we're talking

about massive amounts of foreign troops coming in in that area as a Chinese

troops they come in to the Los Angeles area and go on up the coast going north

toward San Francisco and then from sound spins at the still coming south and

going north and then from Los Angeles going both south and then also coming

into San Diego and going north towards LA as they meet I try to cut people off

who are trying to fight food clothing shelter and other rescue from the storms

from the disasters and from the for truth those in Southern California

trying to escape the cities where there's a later math institution and

other really really really dark things as well as like tsunami and earthquakes

and other natural disasters some people at first and this is kind of the pattern

at first people go and try to go on by car or motorbike or any kind of faster

because they can't I even saw people getting on their horses and people that

live in the country that were more isolated that they didn't live quite far

away and us as where they were in location

troops are coming through or people from the cities we're coming out like if they

live an hour outside of LA for instance in San Diego and they had lands and they

had horses they were even trying to get on their horses to escape anything other

than trying to have to leave by foot so the majority of people at some point in

time are ending up doing that evacuations by foot because the highways

are broken up the back roads are more accessible for a while

Marauders are around there surveying the prisons and a lot of areas are broken up

and so and people abandon their post and so the prisoners get out there are a lot

of reasons why it becomes dangerous for people in these last days as they are

trying to hunt down and find safety in San Diego we have a huge influx of

people coming in from Mexico it's already getting pretty dangerous when it

comes to the drug cartels we see that going into Arizona let's

transfer over into Arizona I see mass exodus of people in

California and Arizona going north and those coming in from Nevada from Las

Vegas I assume they're put nuclear explosions in both Phoenix and Las Vegas

and also in through the coastal cities were more of the missiles coming into

the coastal cities and then this is coming in nuclear explosions in in both

Las Vegas and in Phoenix Las Vegas on the strip in particular is pretty much

annihilated and so mass exodus of individuals coming from Los Angeles over

into the greater st. George Utah area Royal Gorge is blown it's cut off after

cut off and we are speaking with GTRs that's one of the locations we are

seeking to have supplies ready to be distributed so when people come and mass

exodus on foot or by car or whatever means they can we are ready with as many

supplies as we can and with men and women who can help give give a

I see people coming from Arizona on up all the way into southern Utah as well

and different parts of Nevada like Reno and other places that are also populated

that the Phoenix area I see people going and and trying to

find safety in the snowflake area the Pine Valley some of those upper mountain

areas with the high desert mountain areas they try to find a refuge there in

the Tucson area I find them going some of them going

from em in other areas I used to live out there Joel you used to live out

there you know Mount Lemmon dutchess I do yeah so it's not a big enough

Mountain for everybody in Tucson is it oh no not at all right so we see a lot

of people there and the trick do get over to Mount Lemmon because it only

takes about an hour to get up Mount Lemmon so for those that are listening

to me if I were in your shoes and you live in Tucson I would not I would not

go to Mount Lemmon they'll count on that being a place of safety you have nowhere

else to go with sort of staying in your you know downtown South Tucson

neighborhood but the drug cartels have already come in into Phoenix in human

trafficking problems in both Phoenix and the Tucson area is huge right now it

will continue to be increased exponentially the human trafficking

problem will grow exponentially and the headquarters actually on the west coast

and western United States actually becomes Tucson and Phoenix that route

they do they'll bring people in as they already are from New Mexico on over into

Arizona and into the southern Utah area and they will also try to calculate

people from southern Utah taking them down into that Phoenix area one of the

reasons that the Lord does what he does is to try to essentially limit the

damage that's being done by so Satanists and those people that are working in the

human trafficking and drug cartels I see the temple of Baal be AAL being

erected in different parts of United States they've already got a gateway in

New York and in London they also have smaller gateways throughout the United

States the big building that they have not announced that did not made public

I see those gateways and those portables and their doorways being opened up and I

see them taking passengers and passages well under under the railroad through

the railroad and on other public transportation like subway systems and

trains and train stations so I caution you later on when you have

somebody in the government or in the military forces arc or there who are

trying to convince you to get on a bus or to try to get on a train or to try to

get on a subway and they're forcing you to do that with a promise of food or

otherwise if they're threatening if you don't do it they're going to interview

your family I caution you greatly against that in contrast to that I do

see the LDS providing buses and in Utah to help get people to places of safety

and one of the reasons the dark side excuse of buses is to try to mimic what

the light side is doing for places of safety so we have the LDS Church and

then that will be the main floor letter of the denominations that will provide

places of safety but there will be other other churches and communities that

provide safe havens for people across the United States the the remnants of

the government that are left over that is basically entirely run by the Getty

essence at this point in time anybody who had any allegiance to the flag of

the Constitution primarily when these foreigners come in it rise up against

against the foreign armies they do try to fight them and then they're called

upon to defend the Constitution even the elders of Israel and others within the

United States called upon to defend the Constitution as we go to war against the

United States Gaddy Anson's and against those foreign

invaders that are members of foreign armies many of which have been

indoctrinated with hate speech against the United States and false belief

system um let's see I think I need to take a breather that might be a lot

people are evil what do you think should I bring a part of it yeah yeah you have

to breathe for a moment and let people catch up here do you mind if I I'd like

to ask a question you talked about all these events unfolding and and I'm not

going to ask you when those occur but I can you tell us like in the sequence of

events we've already talked about the Wasatch wake up and then about a year

later we see a big one take place can you tell us when this all begins after

yeah all right I don't know exactly when this occurs I

have an idea a woman Kurt I'm not given permission to discuss

timelines of specifics over the podcast my understanding is I am 44 and I

believe that we will be invaded by the foreign armies before I'm 50 so and

it'll it'll be it could be as early as next year I don't know exactly when it

will be at the earliest we have sleeper cells throughout the

United States so those super cells are waiting for their cue and and we can we

could have an entire podcast on super cells in fact maybe we should do that

sometime but I see a lot of this being a combustible situation and and tell me a

little more time what your what your question was because my mind was already

jumping ahead shit I didn't talk about sleeper cells well well immediately on

this podcast you started talking about Southern California and invading troops

and so is that before during or after say the big one okay so I see that I see

the Wasatch wake up happens and I see with that obviously delivering a fire

coming alive because the continent you know they rub against each other

those those areas the landmass is even under the sea and so one one earthquake

kind of turtle is better equipped they all kind of coincide and they're become

so many one right after the other it's hard to see exactly when the foreign

ships come in because it feels like they come in almost right at the time that

the Ring of Fire in California opens up and I do know that that the seams I've

seen by the time the foreign so the foreign armies come up I would 191 they

also come up through i-15 become on i-70 I 80 to come in the main highways all

over the United States their goal is to take over the airport the school's the

hospitals government buildings and take over like main highway passages and put

checkpoints and other things up anywhere you can see where they could basically

either annihilate or or completely take over the most people and the most

infrastructure and have the least amount of resistance due to that

so the scenes that I've seen are the big one not the wasatch related but the big

one that's about a nine nine and a half or even cannot the Richter scale that

happens is the centers in Salt Lake and goes out on the Wasatch the foreign

troops come in after that so well they come in before that into California they

come into Utah after that and they and I'm not totally clear on the timing of

that I just know that I see they've shown to me a lot but I don't have

clarity to know cuz ice it's like I see them coming in and a peaceful manner

first to try to help with some of stuff in California to try to help with things

of Utah but they're really there and they already have their super cells

they're really there to take over and to dominate as to you know put the American

people into subjection of their of their governments and of their militaries so I

see it happening in such a quick manner and they're coming from all sides that I

don't have total clarity as to the timing of you know what comes first if

you will it feels like the foreign troops the sleeper cells and the foreign

troops come in initially and I know they're there you know under the guise

of helping and then it quickly turns to war down in the southern states in

California because the people there have an uprising and they have a conflict

when they start realizing that the Chinese who come in aren't really

friendly it's not friendly when you have a foreign army coming to your door and

telling you that you need to leave and they're going to take over your house so

it quickly turned south and then I see them heading up heading in into the

Boise area after they've already gone in to Portland got in to Seattle some of

those stood on the coastlines then I see them moving inland and they do that as

part of their as I move inland into the United States

and they come because the coast utah is not that far away relatively speaking

from the coastlines that's one of the first states that they can hit they also

know that the LDS Church has encouraged members of their church Mormons to have

food stores for a long time so they know that they can get supplies there they

believe they can go there and get food they also want to try to minimize how

many of those members of the church are able to escape their clutches because

they don't want an uprising that is that as their goal is to keep from having the

LDS Church and members of it have an uprising against them that is something

that's improv aside for generations and members of the LDS Church know that

they've heard about it they've been raised with that as what

they call the elders of Israel which is specifically talking about behalf of

ephraim rising up against those that was the combat on US soil

that's been prophesied by joseph smith and other prophets of the LDS church and

the goal of the foreign army is to keep from having the LDS elders of Israel

rise up to defend the Constitution does that help I just went off and I Wow

Joel do you have any questions wow she definitely answered your question there

Eric I just want that kind of and I say you know one of the things I noticed was

that you know all of these schools are getting all these solar panels and are

basically becoming self-sufficient right you know I could really see you know the

grid going down and if you want power you got to go to a school and there the

school is where they'll you know basically have the ability to control

the population from that right they will actually do loss 7.2 school one of the

first things they'll do is walk down at the school so that people are not able

to get their children they will use that as a way to try to coerce men to join to

join the wrong side to defend the lives will just be amazing how many lies they

tell they will basically your fear tactics they will tell everybody you

know that they have to get the chip in order to get food or to get their kids

back they have to chip the kids so that you can keep track of them because it's

become so dangerous if you don't ship your kids somebody else still

somebody'll put them in a human trafficking ring they will they will use

the chip to monitor people so to locate people to track people they have

tracking devices in those chips just like when you trip your dogs that's what

we're looking at here only a lot of those chips will have tracking devices

articles in and also to identify so if you escaped if you escape or try to

escape you will have been shipped therefore they will know who you are

what your identity is coming with your family they'll use that to try to get

We have begun to see the 'event-horizon' (Lance Roberts) of an economic slowdown in several

indicators.

Adding to that, and counter-intuitively perhaps, an unemployment rate this low (4.29%) is a

signal to run-away from Stocks and run-to Treasuries.

Historically, unemployment rate lows have occurred at, or very near-to, market inflection

points preceding recessions (see green and red hash marks in chart below).

The unemployment rate just released on 6/2/2017 at 4.29% is now just below the average unemployment

"entry prior" to recessions over the last 67 years, at 4.4%.

Also, it is now below the low before the "Great Recession" 10 years ago, at 4.4% in March

of 2007.

While further improvement in employment is certainly possible, it has become senseless

to bet on that it does.

As we have shown before, the yield curve does not need to invert to enter a recession.

While that phenomenon is a post-World War II normality, it is a post-Depression aberration,

and many recession warning indicators are falsely conditioned to look for this first.

The successful interception of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) target by a kill

vehicle last May 30 ensures the United States' domination of the world, said an interesting

analysis appearing in the website of the People's Liberation Army (PLA).

The U.S. success might also motivate India to accelerate work on perfecting its decade-old

Ballistic Missile Defense Program to counter ballistic missile attacks from China.

This ICBM interception "indicated progress in America's strategic defense technology,

but it's not good news for maintaining the current strategic balance among major powers

in the world," said the author, Senior Colonel Wang Mingzhi, a professor at the Air Force

Command College of the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF).

Col. Wang noted the current strategic balance among the contending world powers (the U.S.

versus China and Russia) "is largely based on the capability of Mutually Assured Destruction

(MAD) of the second nuclear attack, which is effective in preventing nuclear war and

ensuring strategic stability."

First applied during the late 1940s in the Cold War, MAD is a doctrine of military strategy

and national security policy in which a full-scale use of nuclear weapons by two or more opposing

sides will cause the complete annihilation of both the attacker and the defender.

It is based on the theory of deterrence, which holds the threat of using nuclear weapons

against an enemy prevents the enemy's use of those same weapons. The development of

a missile defense system by one side will violate the MAD doctrine and destabilize the

situation, because the side that does so won't have to fear the consequences of a second

strike by its enemy.

This is the situation China (and Russia) see themselves as being trapped in, hence their

furious opposition to THAAD, Patriot and the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) that

was used in the May 30 intercept.

GMD is the United States' anti-ballistic missile system for intercepting incoming warheads

in space, during the midcourse phase of ballistic trajectory flight.

Col. Wang argued the "enhancement of America's missile defense capability will, in theory,

undermine the effectiveness efficacy of nuclear strikes launched by its main strategic rivals

(Russia and China), thus consolidating its own domination."

This state of affairs will also goad other countries into developing their own "strategic

penetration technology at a faster pace or enhance their own strategic defense capability,

which will exert a new impact on international security," an obvious reference to India.

The Indian Ballistic Missile Defense Program seeks to develop and deploy a multi-layered

ballistic missile defense system to protect India from ballistic missile attacks by Pakistan

and China.

It consists of two land and sea-based interceptor missiles: the Prithvi Air Defense (PAD) missile

for high altitude interception, and the Advanced Air Defense (AAD) Missile for lower altitude

interception. The two-tiered shield should be able to intercept any incoming missile

launched from 5,000 kilometers away.

Despite being developed over the past 10 years, the program is not yet fully operational.

On May 30, an "ICBM-class target" fired toward the U. S. mainland from Kwajalein Atoll in

the Marshall Islands was destroyed over the Pacific Ocean by an "Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle"

(EKV) in a test meant to demonstrate the effectiveness of U.S. anti-ballistic missile defenses.

The target fired from the Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Defense Test Site on Kwajalein Atoll

in the Marshall Islands, 6,600 km from the mainland was "successfully intercepted" at

3:30 p.m. ET by a Ground-Based Interceptor (GBI) launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base

in California.

TRUMPETED THAT WITH CLAIMING HE WAS THE CLAIMING MONEY FOR

MEMBERS OF THE MILITARY NEEDED THE EXACT OPPOSITE.

NONPROFIT STATUS?
