european manufacturers like mercedes and BMW have been having European deliveries
so people from all over the world would head over to Europe to pick up their
vehicles instead of just waiting until they're shipped to their local dealer
this facilitated a nice vacation in Europe where you got a chance to test
out your car meet some people at the factory and understand the vehicle
better and I didn't know what the rules are now for each country but there were
some tax benefits particularly if you had a certain number of miles you might
be able to get it as a used car when you're registering it I wanted to sort
of introduce this concept when it came to Tesla I believe it's possible for you
to take delivery if you wanted to go to Europe in the Amsterdam delivery
facility drive it around and then get it shipped back to the US but really what I
was targeting is the fact that I think taking the time to either take delivery
or head to the Bay Area and rent a Tesla for a few days and visit some few
locations for Tesla I think would be worthwhile because we're moving into a
whole different realm of vehicles and a whole different realm of manufacturer
so I thought it might be interesting today to review of UT location that one
might visit on a trips so clearly the number one spot to go to would be the
Freemont test facilities so that you could get a look at other vehicles on
the test track and talk with experts the second facility would be probably just
do a drive-by at the headquarters you'll be able to look in the parking lot etc
I'm not likely get inside their building because it's so stocked with people and
you have to have an appointment that executives typically in order to get in
there I wouldn't recommend going to the
gigafactory because it's a long hike into Reno
Nevada and you're likely really don't get access there unless you're pressed
or VIP the third location that comes to mind that I think would be compelling
would be a place called Harris Ranch as a recharge location between Harris Ranch
in a place called Kettleman city right now tesla is using it as kind of a
testing ground for new ideas when it comes to solutions related to recharging
your vehicle I'm kind of intrigued because on first glance one would say
hey it's a waste of time to go visit the factory etc but one of the things I
always found interesting is for example I lived in Palo Alto California for a
long time and Steve Jobs live maybe ten blocks from the Palo Alto store so I was
always impressed with the quality of training and information I got from that
store compared to others so on a Bay Area trips to sort of take delivery of
your Tesla I'd also recommend considering perhaps doing a couple of
test drives at Tesla facilities that are close to the headquarters of Tesla
because I feel like you get the best trained folks with the newest precious
knowledge of where things are and going with the company
I wanted to make this hey these are three things that you would for sure
learn if you chose this option but I think that what will happen is that
there are some things that are important to one group of folks that might not be
if it's important to others when I was doing a lot of writing and test driving
I really enjoyed the opportunity to drive to the parking lot of some of
these big companies that manufacture cars because executives as well as
engineers might introduce you to ideas you know in terms of extras on the
vehicles etc that are not available to the general public yet but a compelling
because they're very useful and it's kind of fun to see how the best folks
who are building these vehicles are modifying them in ways that you might
find useful when you return through wherever you might have arrived from so
look forward to any input that you guys may have in particular I was hoping that
as I've been spending time with folks that live near the Tesla factory and
listen to how they manage their vehicle differently than people who are not near
Tesla it's been interesting to sort of pick up little details you know a random
one that came to mind is that a good buddy of mine who has an early Model S
maybe once a month drives by the factory for a recharge and he was really
surprised to see the volume of cars that were sitting on a lot on his last visit
that the clean Model S's soon thereafter there was an announcement that showed
that you know they had a good production run that quarter so it also gives you
kind of a look at for the build pace and what's being built at the factory you
know it's also kind of interesting so I think if your eyes are open they're 20
or 50 or maybe a hundred different little details you'll pick up about how
the company operates and that enhances your ownership experience but it may not
be initially obvious prior to the trips but after the trip I think you'll be
really pleased that you made the trips and in general the bay is a great place
to visit anyway I want to thank you for taking time out once again to visit with
us I'm suggesting that you consider the Tesla European American delivery plan
it's a little different because in most cases most Europeans aren't interested
in u.s. vehicles but I think a Tesla visit is worth the trip thank you for
