Chelsea and Tottenham target who has split the opinion of Toffees supporters?
For all the excitement around seven new signings – and the promise of three more to come – one name has dominated Everton discussion this week. Ross Barkley is the centre of attention.
He will not kick another ball in a Royal Blue shirt, with Ronald Koeman having made it clear in his press conference ahead of the Europa League tie with FC Ruzomberok that it was 100 per cent he would be sold in this window.
Some Evertonians are shedding no tears and are fully behind their managers hard stance. Others feel deeply disappointed that an Academy graduate, for whom there was tremendous hope, will take the next steps in his career away from his boyhood club.
But how did it get to this point where a relationship became fractured beyond repair? Sportsmail looks at how the story unfolded and what the future holds for one of the most talked about young players in the Premier League.
How did it come to this?.
If Barkleys time as an Everton player under Roberto Martinez was filled with unrelenting praise and positivity – and some remarkable comparisons – early notice was served under Koeman that any platitudes would have to be earned.
Before the start of last season, Koeman left no ambiguity in terms of what he expected.
Asked whether the chastening experience he suffered at Euro 2016 had left a mark – Barkley was isolated by Roy Hodgson and never got on the pitch – the Dutchman was blunt.
Ive spoken to everyone, about football, about their position in the team and how we train, Koeman said on August 13. I have contact with everyone. But, okay, I have spoken with him. He is a very good player.
But Ive told him how I see Ross Barkley and where he needs to improve..
The early signs were good. Barkley got Evertons goal in the opening day draw against Tottenham, the third time in four years he had scored in the first game but, slowly, the mood began to change.
He was dragged off at half-time against Sunderland, dropped for a game at Manchester City.
Everton had planned to give Barkley a new deal after the transfer window closed but the situation dragged and by Christmas, when Koeman publicly questioned whether the 23-year-old would ever realise his potential, discussions were placed on hold.
Koeman made a vow after that not to talk about Barkley in public and the temperature thawed; he rejigged the team and played Barkley in a more advanced position and his best form came in the early New Year but the mood wasnt sustained.
When it became apparent that Barkley would not sign a new contract and had rejected the offer he had been made, Koeman decided enough was enough. He would take Everton in one direction and Barkley could pursue another challenge.
The first thing to say is this is a sad situation.
The hope for Barkley, who used to run six miles from his home in Wavertree to Evertons Finch Farm training base during his time at The Academy, was that he would develop from a local hero into a true club legend.
Barkley is big and strong; when he plays on instinct and his confidence is soaring, he is a joy to behold and capable of providing moments that, in his words, gets fans out of their seats.
He can shoot with both feet and glide past challenges. For that reason, Everton valued him at £50million. When the figure became public on May 16, as Sportsmail reported, eyebrows were raised.
His form hadnt been good enough and critics pointed out that only three of his 21 career Premier League goals had come against top six sides.
Everton, though, have never sold cheaply and regardless of how long Barkley had on his contract, they would not give him away.
Yet whether they can command a fee in that region is doubtful, given how final and blunt Koeman was on Wednesday.
There will be no swift conclusion to this narrative but a number of chairman and negotiators will be watching events and preparing to come with an offer; Barkley might split opinion but he is an appealing prospect to several clubs.
Where does he go? . Eyes will have rolled when the names of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United were added to that of Tottenham in the light of Koemans revelation.
The argument being put forward is that he wouldnt get into any of those starting XIs. Some will wonder about why Tottenham want him, too, when they already have Dele Alli.
On the form he showed at the end of last season, he wouldnt get into any of those teams and not even his biggest fan could argue otherwise.
But here is the thing: he ticks a lot of boxes in terms of being attractive to potential buyers.
He is at the right age, he is home-grown and has many of the attributes required to excel in the Premier League; a number of managers will relish the challenge of lighting the spark with in him.
Pochettino, for one, can see potential. Antonio Conte is an admirer – as he is of his team-mate Tom Davies. Jose Mourinho considered bringing him to Chelsea during the summer of 2014 when Manchester City were quoted a £50million transfer fee.
The eventual cost of him leaving Goodison Park will not be that high but the next move has to be right.
He will be 24 in December and the days of him being viewed as a player of potential will be gone. Wherever he goes next, this has to be the season when Barkley delivers. .

INDIA CHINA are Ready for a BATTLE but the World Countries are AFRAID - Duration: 4:49.
In the first official meeting between top Indian and Chinese officials since the Doklam
stand-off became public, national security adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval met state councillor
Yang Jiechi here on Thursday, offering the possibility of serious diplomatic efforts
to de-escalate the confrontation.
Yang, who as China's state councillor overseeing foreign affairs occupies a powerful and influential
position in the state council, is a nominee in the India-China special representative
level dialogue with NSA Doval.
Indications of how the bilateral meeting went on Thursday could be gleaned by the commentary
released by China's official Xinhua news agency which sent out a conciliatory signal just
before Doval is expected to meet Chinese president Xi Jinping on Friday.
The news agency spoke of the need to enhance mutual trust between the two countries because
they are "not born rivals".
The comments released by the official Xinhua news agency made a strong plea to avoid the
possibility of a war.
"Most economies, including those in the West, will find themselves negatively affected
by an India-China war in a globalised and intertwined world today," it said.
In Delhi, the Indian government reminded China of the agreements on peace and tranquility
that go back to 1993.
Yang also held separate meetings with security officials of three other countries on the
sidelines of a security dialogue of BRICS nations.
He discussed issues con cerning bilateral relations, international and regional issues
and multilateral affairs with the visiting security officials, the official Xinhua news
agency said.
The remarks are a contrast to the hectoring tone in the comments published in publications
like Global Times that are seen to reflect the views of the government.
China's official spokespersons have accused India of trespassing into Chinese territory
, ignoring India's protests that the face-off near the Sikkim-Tibet-Bhutan trijunction has
been caused by unilateral attempts by China to alter the ground position.
There are signs that the two neighbours might be able to scale down tensions that have spiked
following China's bid to build a road through a plateau in Bhutanese territory .
This is the first time in weeks that the official media ran a commentary without de manding
withdrawal of Indian troops from the disputed Doklam region.
China has so far been insisting that troop withdrawal is a pre-condition to a "meaningful
dialogue".

"Hopefully , wisdom will guide the two countries to common prosperity ," it said, adding
that "Both China and India need to enhance communication and nurture trust between them...

James Milner returns to Liverpool's pre-season training, but 2 others sit out due to injury
Liverpool left-back James Milner has returned to full training after a thigh injury, as the Reds continue their pre-season preparations in Germany.
Milner was forced off midway through the Reds' 2-1 victory over Leicester City in the Premier League Asia Trophy in Hong Kong, replaced by Alberto Moreno.
The 31-year-old was expected to miss the entirety of Liverpool's tour of Jurgen Klopp's homeland, which kicked off with a 3-0 win away to Hertha Berlin on Saturday.
But the club have now confirmed that Milner has join his team-mates for training on Sunday, as they gear up for the Audi Cup in Munich.
Liverpool are currently based in Rottach-Egern, 35 miles outside of the Bavarian capital, but will head to the Allianz Arena to take on Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
They will then face off against either Atletico Madrid or Napoli on Wednesday, depending on their result against the Bundesliga champions.
Milner could hope to feature in Munich, with the veteran now facing competition from summer arrival Andrew Robertson for the role of Klopp's first-choice left-back.
Two players who could be sidelined for the Audi Cup, however, are Dejan Lovren and Divock Origi, who both pulled out of the clash with Hertha due to minor muscle problems.
Origi was in line to start at the Olympiastadion, but was replaced by Dominic Solanke after pulling up during the Reds' warmup, with the Englishman going on to score the opener.
Both Lovren and Origi will continue to be monitored, joining Danny Ward (knee) and Loris Karius (hip) as doubts against Munich.
Otherwise, Klopp has a full compliment of players for the midweek tournament, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Marko Grujic, Ben Woodburn and Danny Ings likely to come back into contention.
The quartet were left out of the trip to Berlin as they continued individual programmes in Rottach-Egern.

Sacha Dhawan has revealed he never actually auditioned for Doctor Who, but admits he might once the newly-announced 13th Doctor vacates the role.
The Sherlock actor was one of the many names rumoured to be taking over from Peter Capaldi in the titular role when the actor steps down from the series this December, but he has since revealed that he actually never even auditioned for the role.
I never auditioned for Doctor Who, Dhawan said during this weekends London Film and Comic Con (via Radio Times). I think because Im associated with Sherlock and the Doctor Who world someone must have thrown my name in the hat.
Still, all those Twitter rumours seemed to get him thinking, and Sacha admitted that at one point he even rang his agent just to make sure he hadnt missed out on an audition for the gig.
It was really nice, he continued. Mark Gatiss messaged me, Ive just seen this on Twitter, to the point where I was calling my agent saying, Have I got an audition for this? No. Hopefully when Jodie [Whittaker] finishes, Ill get considered.
Of course, Broadchurch star Jodie Whittaker was unveiled as the 13th Doctor earlier this month, becoming the first female doctor in the shows 50+ years of history – something Sacha is pretty psyched about too, by the sounds of things.

Take out the cool retro tunes, neon everything and the formidable woman of action, and Atomic Blonde tends more bland than Bond.
Charlize Theron is the MI6 secret agent in the middle of double-crossing and triple-crossing in the new spy flick (**½ out of four; rated R; in theaters nationwide Friday) from director David Leitch.
The John Wick co-director carries over his talent for filming great fight sequences and explosive set pieces, but the narrative and characters never quite reach the same heights.
In some instances, the plot gets so convoluted that it's hard to tell who's a friend and who's a foe.
The Blonde focal point is Lorraine Broughton, an exceedingly steely undercover operative in the last days of the Cold War circa 1989, having to explain her latest actions to a superior (Toby Jones) and a CIA honcho (John Goodman).
A nasty black eye and scratched-up face hint at the mayhem she's inflicted — and has had inflicted upon her.
Thats used as a framework to tell the entire escapade: With revolution in the air and the Wall about to fall, Lorraine is in Berlin to work with embedded agent David Percival (James McAvoy) to investigate the murder of a colleague, plus track down a man code-named Spyglass (Eddie Marsan), who has a list of agents that needs to stay out of Soviet hands.

Complicating matters is the existence of the double agent Satchel, who could be anybody, and the appearance of Delphine Lasalle (Sofia Boutella), a French spy who becomes Lorraine's love interest of sorts, though — like pretty much every character — her true motives are a mystery for much of the movie.
Set to the sounds of Depeche Mode, Duran Duran and Nena, Blonde is a new wave-y pretzel of twists on top of twists.

Theron was more successful in turning on the fiery intensity as Mad Max: Fury Road's Furiosa.
However, Lorraine maintains a certain unbending cool throughout, from stylishly emerging from an ice bath — the cold metaphors never stop in this thing — to pummeling dudes with kitchen accessories. The action scenes are brutal and excellent.
One is done in single-take style where Lorraine kicks goons down stairs and gets thrown into walls herself, and though it wears out its welcome by going on too long, there is a pleasant sense of reality in the chaos.
At one point, she can hardly stand and her opponent is wobbly as well, and they just continue their life-or-death duel as exhaustion sets in. . How Charlize Therons Atomic Blonde is films best-dressed spy ever.
Following up his strong turn in Split earlier this year, McAvoy is pleasantly zany as Parcival, though there's not nearly enough of co-star Boutella.
But in supporting roles, Jones, Goodman and James Faulkner (as MI6 head "C") are all frustratingly bureaucratic guys who make solid sparring partners for Lorraine.
From Jennifer Garner in Alias to Keri Russell in The Americans, there's plenty of precedent for female spy leads, and Theron has the moves and the manner to pull off a James Bond or Jason Bourne.
But with its underwhelming storytelling, Atomic Blonde isn't the ideal franchise starter she deserves.

On the surface, it appears The Notorious is announcing his support for the Reds of Liverpool and fans of the club were quick to comment their support. "MMA Star Conor McGregor is a Liverpool fan!" one wrote.
Another added: "Always loved McGregor…now even more he supports Liverpool!" Yet in an old column for Independent.ie, the 29-year-old confessed he was a Manchester United fan. TWITTER McGregor was pictured in a Man Utd shirt as a youngster.
"I suppose if you pushed me I would say Manchester United, but that's only because it gets passed down from generation to generation," he said.
"I think just about everyone in Ireland is either a Liverpool or United fan. And another picture soon surfaced showing a young McGregor wearing a Red Devils shirt.
So either the Irishman has switched allegiances – between two huge rivals – or he doesn't actually watch football at all.
