Scorching tempeartures continue to grip the nation.

There are very few areas where the battle against the summer heat is more intense than

Deagu.

Which is why for our News Features tonight, Kim Mok-yeon turns to arguably the hottest

city in South Korea, to take a page from their creative playbook to beat the heat.

Since 1940, when the temperature in Daegu reached the 40 degrees Celsius mark for the

first time, Daegu, located in southeastern Korea, has been known as one of the hottest

cities in the country.

"Today, the temperature in Daegu peaked at a whopping 37 degrees celsius.

As you can see, fried eggs and melted traffic cones have been placed around the area as

a symbol of the city's scorching heat."

"I was born and raised in Daegu.

I think its gotten even hotter these days.

During the evenings, it feels like a sauna."

"Unlike Seoul, its really really hot here.

My make-up gets messed up because of the sweat all over my face."

"Just like the term Daefrica, it's so hot.

I feel like im going to get fried."

In recent years, the city has been nicknamed "Daefrica", to reflect how Daegu's weather

conditions are becoming similar to Africa's.

As such, every summer, the city has been striving to help its citizens beat the heat in various

ways.

This year, a special task force team has been formed to take care of numerous facilities

and health care programs.

One special facility is the "cooling fog" system.

"The cooling fog system sprays small particles of water in a form of a mist, which lowers

the temperature of the atmosphere by up to 5 degrees.

The water sprayed is not harmful to the human body because it comes from the public water

supply system."

The system was first installed in 2014, and as of today, twelve facilities are operating

around Daegu.

And because of its effectiveness, Seoul city recently benchmarked the system and installed

it in the Gwangwhamun Square.

Aside from this, hundreds of resting areas, camping sites and pools have been installed

around the city to help residents and visitors overcome the heat.

Efforts to lower surface temperatures are also ongoing.

The so-called Clean-road system has been installed in the 9.1 kilometer section between the Manchon

and Shindang intersections.

It sprays wasted ground water onto the road in order to cool the roads and cars and reduce

fine dust particles at the same time.

In addition to creating facilities to help the public cope with the weather, Daegu city

is also directly lending a helping hand to those people who could be most vulnerable

to the heat.

In the summer, more than 2,800 volunteers from various fields visit senior citizens

and the disabled to assist them with their meals and provide them with necessary health

care during hot days.

"During summer, we visit them on a weekly basis for about two months.

We also call them frequently to check on their blood pressure and sugar levels as well as

give them emotional and practical support."

The city is also handing out purified tap water bottles, watermelon and fans for free

in parks, subway stations and public places where many people gather.

"They give us watermelons, fans and water in this hot weather so I'm very happy and

thankful."

"Every now and then, they give us water and care about our health during summer so I want

to say Thank you"

This year, the city will distribute a total of 210 thousand bottles of water to the public,

which is 68 percent more than what was handed out last year.

"After we began holding various escape-the-heat events, the number of patients suffering from

heat strokes decreased dramatically last year.

I hope that damages from the heat would further decrease this year and that the residents

of Daegu spend a comfortable summer."

The average summer period in Korea starts in May and continues until September.

For the remaining summer months, Daegu city and its residents are expected to continue

efforts to battle the heat in many more creative ways.

How to Apply when there is No Opening: 7 Sentence Cover Letter - Duration: 7:09.

Hey, everyone.

It's Andy with this week's Tips for Work and Life.

Today we're going to talk about how to apply to a company when there's no job opening.

Why it's a great idea to do that, and I'm going to give you the exact seven sentences

you should use to make sure that you get that job interview.

Let's talk about what's happening.

You want to work for this organization, but you can't seem to find a public job posting.

You're not sure if there's an opening.

You're not sure if they'll welcome you.

You're wondering should I apply.

Shouldn't I apply.

If I want to apply, how would I do that.

I'm going to break it all down for you to make sure you get that job interview.

Let's talk about first things first.

Should you apply or reach out to an organization when they don't have a job posting and the

answer is heck yes.

Yes, yes, yes.

You always want to reach in to an organization that you think you'd be a great fit for.

There's tons of reasons to do that, but today I want to talk about three.

The first one is great organizations are always, always combing the world for the greatest

talent.

They're always looking for top talent.

They're always in hiring mode, whether they have a budget for a new position or don't

have a budget for a new position, they are constantly looking for the greatest resources

because they know the greatest resources don't always come along or available when they need

them to.

They're constantly on the lookout.

Speaking of no budget, the second great reason for you to apply is let's talk about statistics.

If there are 10 people in an organization, there's at least one or two of them that the

company would be willing to trade out and hire somebody who would be a better performer.

It's just simple math.

Now start adding a zero onto those numbers.

If there's 100 people in the company, that's 10 to 20 people that they likely would trade

out and trade up for.

Maybe it's 1,000 people.

That's 200 openings, even if they don't have extra budget to hire additional resources,

there's still 10 to 20% of their organization that they feel that they can improve with

better resources.

Then the third point, still on statistics here.

Think about how little the competition will be.

There'll be a lot less competition.

Think about this.

If there's no job posting, it's a deterrent for well more than 90% of the people that

are out there, so most of them won't even try it.

The ones who do, unless they're sitting next to you watching this video with you, they're

not going to know exactly how to do that.

This is going to give the recruiters and the HR people and the hiring officials more care

and consideration and more time to give your submittal more care and consideration.

There's going to be far less competition.

You always, always want to reach in to a company that you think you'd be a great fit for.

Now let's talk specifically how you would do that.

There are seven areas that I would address in your introduction or your cover letter

that you're going to send to them.

Before I get into what those seven topics are, I want to talk about a couple of other

ways that you can introduce yourself.

For those of you that follow me, you know I love the cover letter and I love intros.

It's really important that you're using some great and enticing language when you open

yourself up and you introduce yourself to an employer.

Now many of you have probably seen my now famous four sentence cover letter.

That is a quality over quantity cover letter, when you're doing something simple like trying

to change companies.

If you're a sales person in one organization, you see there's an opening in another organization

and you want to apply for it, it is a great and effective way for you to open up to the

employer.

That's a very simple way.

I also have had a cover letter out there . There's a little bundle of these.

If you've identified an individual you'd like to work for or maybe it's a higher up in an

organization whose unit you want to work in, I have the boss hunting cover letters.

If you're doing a simple company change or you've found somebody that you're interested

in working with, you can use those types of intros.

But what about when you're not sure if there's an opening.

You're not sure what the specific positions are.

You're not sure who to reach in to in the organization.

That's where these seven areas, these seven sentences come in, and the exact seven sentences

are in the download in this posting.

But I want to talk about what those topic areas are.

Let's roll.

Number one.

In any introduction, you need to talk about why you're writing to the person.

The reason I'm writing to you is because I want to join your company.

But you can't leave them there.

You're putting in a cold message here.

You need to give them some context and some rationale as to why you want to work at that

organization.

Number two is your rationale.

The reason I want to work here is because, based on my research, and then insert your

rationales.

That's the second thing.

Then what do you got to tell them.

You got to tell them who you are, what you offer, and why you're a great fit.

I offer X years of experience in this particular industry, doing these particular jobs which

makes me a great fit to support your organization and the products and services it delivers.

But you can't leave them there.

You've got to drive a little nail into this one.

The fourth thing you want to hit them with is a home run accomplishment.

Tell them about a significant accomplishment that you know is going to be enticing and

a great match for that company.

A particular accomplishment that I'm proud of or a significant accomplishment or a major

accomplishment is, and then you tell them specifically what that is, and then you want

cap off that portion of the message with the fifth element which is pointing them in the

direction of more evidence of why you're a great fit for the company in any of the roles

they might have.

You want to direct them to exactly where you want them to look for more evidence.

Now for most of you, that's going to be your resume.

For 90 something percent of you, it's going to be your resume.

But I don't want you to just point them to your resume that you should attach.

I want you to tell them exactly where in the resume you want them to look for more evidence

that greatly aligns to what you think they're going to need in their organization.

That's number five.

Number six, you just want to tell them you welcome the opportunity to speak with them.

Number seven, you want to thank them for their consideration.

Let's recap this very quickly.

Number one, why you're reaching out to them.

Number two, the rationale behind why you want to work for their organization.

Number three, what you offer and why you're a great fit.

Number four, your home run accomplishment that aligns to what you think they need.

Number five, you're going to direct them to where you want them to look for more evidence.

Number six, you want to welcome the opportunity to speak with them.

Number seven, you want to thank them and have a nice day.

I want you to have a nice day.

I hope you enjoyed this week's episode, and if you did, give me a like, a comment, and

a share, and if you're watching this anywhere other than my YouTube channel or the Tips

for Work and Life blog, hop over to the blog.

I've got many more videos and podcasts and articles on career-related and job searching-related

and job interviewing-related topics.

Until next week, have a great one.

How to Get Business Opportunity Leads For FREE in 3 Steps - Duration: 13:47.

Closed Caption by YouTube...

everybody out there on internet land what's going on I'm gonna share with you

today three steps how to generate quality business opportunity leads for

your business that's what we're gonna be talking about today

I have a comprehensive information I want to share with you today and I want

you to pay attention okay I have a quote that I wrote that I want to you to

listen to as well - by the way by the end of this video you know exactly what

you need to do to generate leads quality leads for free in your business okay you

know exactly what to do to continue to build quality leads perpetually for free

in your business alright still now I'm getting a feedback from from YouTube

that okay yeah that's Facebook acting out so Facebook is just previewing for

me and then he's feeding back into me and that's something let's see here I

did so in anyway let's see here let me see

what I can do alright so hopefully you guys not gonna be hearing no feedback

hopefully hopefully not okay I found what to do I know exactly what to do now

I thought I did alright so again we're gonna be talking about three steps to

generating free leads in your business

all right I'm feeding back into myself here so I'm trying to find a better way

to to turn this off yeah one second see this is what happens me alright

sorry about this guy's Jenna see I'm actually gonna let's see what I can do

here to see if I can

this is such a mess and I'm live on YouTube already I see all right guys um

I'm not sure if I'm feeling feeling back into myself hopefully not okay hopefully

I'm not feeding back into myself let's just continue I'm gonna mute myself in

case the videos that just kind of pay attention to what I'm saying and it's

just one of those days just so you know but I'm gonna continue to stream here

just so I don't mess this up completely for the people that are looking at us on

YouTube and items okay so um like I said business opportunity

leads leads is the life of your business you need people coming through your

business every day businesses are essentially three piece which is people

process and product you have a product to sell right now there's a very high

chance that you have a product to sell already and you're just looking for a

way to sell that product to people hopefully you're looking to sell it to

people that actually want the product but hopefully hopefully I hope your

products gonna enhance somebody's life is gonna help somebody's business is

gonna improve somebody's life style you know so those three things life

lifestyle business if your product can hang has other people's lifestyle

without the product itself being money okay so then you're winning okay does

that make sense so and that's that's what we want to focus on when it comes

to price so if you don't have a product that you sell already and you're looking

for products to sell without having to create your

own product holla at me getting going to all that toxic calm / mastermind I got

you on that end now if you have a product to sell and you just don't have

enough people coming to buy your product or you don't know where to find people

more people to come look at your product if that's the case for you I feel for

you he must be really painful right then I have brand new people coming through

the doors of your business every day well if that's what you're looking for I

got you with the three steps I'm about to share with you here today okay but I

have a quote that I want to share with you that I wrote specifically about

business opportunity leads for free in three steps okay and some of you I've

been exposed to the idea of buying leads and paying for leads right I am sure but

I have this I have this thing I want to read to you right now just give me a

minute and I'm gonna read it to you all

right so ah this is opportunity so you joined

a BOTS into a business opportunity and then found out you need to recruit

others into it right yes making money in the deal is directly proportional to the

number of people you recruit don't let anyone deceive you that's just a fact

you need people right the first step to recruiting a new

business partner or rep is when actually they click on or respond to an ad right

then a click of traffic is created created right so if you offer if your

offer is good enough that processor will give you the contact information at that

point you can refer to that prospect as a business opportunity lead okay there

is a fundamental and obvious difference between business opportunity leads and

business opportunity seekers leads have shown interest about seekers are

actually looking for something to buy they are seeking they're searching I

like using the word search but business opportunity believes what about bias

leads right there are vendors who sell this

violates essentially it means leaves who have duck who have documented history of

buying or joining business opportunities the theory is that once a business

opportunity buyer always a business opportunity buyer well it's not always

true personally I prefer a business opportunity seekers to buyers one is

actively seeking and that's the secret right and the others chances of buying

from you is speculative in 100 possess speculative right so now when it comes

to a free business appetite seekers needs now let's talk about your favorite

four letter word fre fre e right the irony of generating business opportunity

leads and/or seekers for your business is that the best quality of them are

free free business opportunity leads when generated organically are the best

quality because they are organically free right I wanted to originally write

organically seeking to start from the search engines that's why I recommend

the three C's all day long you can learn more about the three C's I'm gonna show

you more about that here in a second okay it's a matter let me go over to

that slide so I can show you what a slight look like slide right here I'm

gonna talk about this in a second okay alright so again remember we're talking

about the three steps well I'm kind of diving into the three steps right now

which is the three C's okay so that's why I recommend the three C's all day

long three C's stands for create capture and convert okay if you learn more about

that at all at ox comm slash mastermind which is my free class is it biz op

buyer leads from paid email traffic as solo ads sellers like to refer to them

are the lowest quality of traffic you can ever come across I mean ask anybody

who have bought solo ads were bought traffic through a platform

some people pay $3,000 $4,000 generated 100 leaves nobody bought anything right

ask them get the lowest quality of traffic if you're lucky maybe you found

one buyer if you're extremely lucky but again I like

but I don't like to wrap my business I don't like to make Locke the core of my

business okay so these people on other people's email list

I've been bombarded with new offers daily they are very skeptical they jump

around from one thing to the other all the time but free work from home leads

right directly from Google do-wop from home leads directly from

Google and other search engines are hungry for something all you have to do

is answer their question and solve their problems that's all you have to do see

how easy that is or you are the answer the process of deployment that's the

first C in the three steps that's where the first C of the three C's come in

creating content that answer questions and solve problems on a consistent basis

that's what the C stands for after that you get very own quality but free

opportunity seekers okay emails list okay you build your own

email use that's not bombarded been a skeptic would be came in because they

want to hear more from you right by capturing the traffic that you're free

valuable content attracts you can catch your business opportunity email list but

these days there's another slick way that Facebook YouTube and other network

allow you to capture your audience and the attention with or without their

consent right it kind of would be a consent but in a very slick way the

number one way to capture is by giving massive value upfront well learn how to

get business opportunity leads even if it's good ol MLM network marketing just

attend my free class at hola talks comm slash mastermind that's where you want

to go all right all right you can see the process here you need the three

piece product people process you need to get the products of the people through

the process the process I use attraction marketing in other words I deliver a

massive value the byproduct of that is influencer brand trust equity okay

creating is very simple we will go through that in details when you attend

my free class il DT is what I use I invest time and possibly money in

learning some new things I do them then I teach them sometimes I don't

do them professors are allowed to do that right they teach stuff they don't

do right so sometimes that's just what it comes down to okay or maybe I've done

it before I have a spreads that can teach it capture then you capture the

audience this building like I just told you they're slick ways I cover that in

details in the free class and then also converting is pretty much a byproduct of

the first two seas all right people are pre framed people already fell in love

with you remember they trust you now you have a brand with them they've seen you

deliver value convert into sales as automated is effortless so if you want

free traffic free leads and endless paid signups for life you wanna do is you

wanna go to all our talks comm slash mastermind that's why I'm gonna go

through everything in complete details and then and then we'll take it from

there hopefully even enlightened I'll see you on the next episode peace

sorry about that you know you're gonna walk in on me alright alright guys

How To Bring Your Mixes To Life With Automation - BehindTheSpeakers.com - Duration: 6:52.

Hey, this is Jason Moss from BehindTheSpeakers.com, and today we're gonna talk all about automation—which

is one of the most powerful techniques in the mixing process, and really can help take

your tracks from good to great.

Now, before we dive in, if you're looking to learn more about automation after this

video, I put together a free PDF with five other ways that I like to use automation to

enhance and elevate my mixes.

Now, to download this free PDF, you can click the link in the description below or in the

video and you'll get free instant access.

Now, when I was in high school, I sang in choir, and later on when I started mixing,

I realized that a lot of the concepts and techniques and principles that my director

would tell us when we were learning a new song actually apply perfectly to the mixing

process.

So it was really this masterclass in learning how to mix.

And one of the things that I took away from watching my director is, he would always say,

nothing in music is ever standing still.

So a note is never flat dynamically—it's either growing or it's shrinking.

So it's either crescendoing and getting louder, or it's getting quieter.

Later on, when I started mixing, I realized that this concept is just an incredible way

to think about the mixing process.

So whenever you have tracks in your mix that are just hanging on one note or sitting still,

you can actually use automation to bring in some of that movement and give them that kind

of life.

So instead of just having things sit flat, suddenly you have this subtle sense of either

things are growing, they're getting louder, or they're getting a little bit quieter.

In my experience, I've found this can really elevate mixes and really take them from good

to great.

So I wanna show you how I incorporated this idea into a mix that I recently did for an

artist called Alice Kristiansen.

So let's take a look.

Okay, so I have a session here from a track called "Lost My Mind" by Alice Kristiansen.

And I wanted to use it to show you a couple different ways that I approach automation

in a mix, and more so, really, just to show you the impact that this concept of things

never staying still, always growing or shrinking, can actually have on the quality of your mixes.

So let's take a listen here.

This first section I wanna play for you is the entrance into the chorus.

Okay, let me go ahead and turn off all the automation.

And I just wanna play you, basically this is what the tracks sounded like when they

came to me before I had added any of my rides.

So it's kind of flat, right?

And really, there's no dynamic shift going into the chorus.

It doesn't feel like we're swelling, it doesn't feel like things are growing.

They just sit there and then the chorus comes.

But what I did was, if you take a look, you can see on a lot of these tracks I added these

rides coming into the chorus.

So you can see on this AirSynth track I added this crescendo, so it gets louder coming into

the chorus and then it just backs off a little bit, and same thing on this organ.

So take a listen again, and notice the dynamics heading into that chorus where it feels like

there's this swell.

Things get louder and it really adds a lot of energy and impact to the entrance of this

chorus.

Right, so we feel like we arrive into the chorus.

It feels like the song's pushing us into it versus just, suddenly we're there.

So the next thing I wanna show you here is at the end of the song, kind of a similar

concept.

Let's take a listen.

First, let me play it for you without automation.

And I'll play you a couple bars beforehand.

Okay, so it's like the exit out of the last chorus into that outro section.

So I'm gonna turn on the automation and play this again, and really notice the dynamics.

Take a listen to, what's the movement, do tracks feel like they're getting bigger or

smaller, what's happening going into that last section?

So, again, a similar concept, we're swelling into that exit, and so everything feels like

it gets bigger and bigger and bigger and then it cuts off right when all of those instruments

come down and we have this solo piano/vocal.

So we're actually making that transition a little bit more dramatic.

But I want you to notice one other thing that I did here was I actually brought the volume

of a lot of these tracks down right at the beginning of that crescendo.

So what happens a lot of the time is, especially at the end of a chorus or something, things

are already pretty loud and so if you wanna do something like this where you have a crescendo

right at the end, you don't have a lot of room to build because you're already at peak

volume.

So instead of trying to build from where you are, often times, a better approach is to

take a step down.

And then that gives you a little bit more room to grow.

So take a listen again and notice how the volume drops right at the beginning of this

section and then we have more room to grow right into the end.

And again, I just wanna turn off the automation and play this for you without any automation.

So this is basically what the tracks sounded like when they were sent to me.

So it's just completely flat, there's nothing.

There's no dynamics, it doesn't feel like it's getting bigger or smaller.

But with that automation, we feel like these sections are moving along a little bit, and

they have a little bit more life to them.

So I hope you enjoyed this video, and hopefully you can apply this idea to take your tracks

to the next level.

Now if you're looking for more ideas about how to use automation to enhance your mixes,

I put together a free PDF with five more ways that I use automation in the mixing process.

So if you want this PDF, you can click the link in the description below or in the video

Weird Syntax: Part I. "How Dare You" - Duration: 2:03.

Weird Syntax, Part I What's up with "How dare you!"

"How dare you" is a common enough phrase that it seems quite normal, but a closer look

at its syntax reveals something strange.

Other verbs wouldn't behave the same way in that slot.

How know you?

No, it's "how do you know."

Shouldn't it also be "how do you dare"?

In the history of English, dare used to belong to a special class of verbs that included

words like can, will, must, and should.

They're now called modal verbs, and they express things like likelihood, possibility,

and permission.

They don't behave like other verbs in various ways, for example they don't take the –s

ending in the third person, and they no have infinitive form with to.

Dare drifted away from this group in the 16th century and became more like other verbs.

It became used as a main verb with all the forms.

But it still has a foot in the modal group, trying to have it both ways, making it act

a little weird sometimes.

We say "how dare you" for the same reason we say "how will you" and "how can you."

Dare isn't the only one that can be main or modal.

Another English verb with one foot in the regular and one foot in the modal category

is "need."

Unlike dare, though, need started as a regular verb, but drifted over to the modal group

starting in the 16th century.

Modal "need" sounds old-fashioned, but there was a time when it was new.

Modal dare is the older sense of dare, but it also sounds old-fashioned now.

But "How dare you" isn't the only phrase where modal dare survives.

Another phrase you sometimes see it in is: "I dare say…"

And I dare say, it can, should, must, will and need make for an interesting excursion

in weird syntax.

Outdoor Retailer: How to Use Social to Drive Online Sales - Duration: 1:55.

- About to fly out head to Salt Lake City, Utah,

and I'm super pumped to go to Outdoor Retailer,

been there for many years, and I love it!

I'm so excited, I have some really great meetings lined up,

and I'm actually speaking on Thursday.

I'm speaking about this, about

'How Brands and Retailers Can Use Social

to Drive Online Sales'.

I'm sure all of you got this book,

and I think it's super super helpful.

It's crazy because we're seeing so many bankruptcies happen,

and businesses fail in retail

including especially on the sporting good side.

There's a lot of nervousness,

people are scared, brands are nervous,

retailers are scared a little bit

about what do we do and how do we change this.

I think there's a big misconception that consumers

are going away, that they're not buying more.

And the reality is it can't farther from the truth.

Consumers are spending more, not less.

They're just spending it not where you're used

to them spending their money.

You utilize social, you utilize digital

to get in front of your consumers,

your customers in a very targeted way.

Drive these consumers back to your site,

and then you give them that engagement

in real life, in social, in digital on your site,

and you create a different experience for them

than they could ever get on Amazon,

and that they could ever get

in big-box retail, and now you're golden.

It's not a hard time, it's just a hard time

to continue do what you've been doing for years,

but if you're willing to make this change,

your business is going to explode if you're a brand.

And if you're a retailer and you start using some

of these strategies and rethinking

the way that you've done it, you absolutely

can position yourself for massive massive success.

Hopefully a lot of you will also come

to my speaking engagement on Thursday; 'How Brands

and Retailers Can Use Social to Drive Online Sales'.

Make sure you're there I'm gonna drop

some really good information,

and I'd love to meet you in person,

so I'm excited, I can't wait Outdoor Retailer is the bomb.

Midnight, Texas: How the Show Is Different From True Blood ! - Duration: 5:36.

Midnight, Texas: How the Show Is Different From True Blood.

NBC's new supernatural drama Midnight.

Texas is based on the novel trilogy of the same name by Charlaine Harris, and if that

name sounds familiar to you, it's because it should.

Harris' Southern Vampire Mysteries were the basis for HBO's True Blood.

which turned the book franchise into an immediate megahit and made Harris a well-known name.

But even though Midnight.

Texas -- about a small Southern town that serves as a refuge for various supernatural

beings -- shares similarities with True Blood.

showrunner Monica Owusu-Breen was attracted to the books for how they're different from

True Blood.

TV Guide talked to Owusu-Breen about the new series and how the similarities.

and differences between True Blood helped make the show stand on its own.

Because Midnight, Texas is from Charlaine Harris' book and it's full of supernatural

creatures, there's a STRONG True Blood tone to the show.

How much of that similarity was intentional?.

Also, I'm not complaining, I love True Blood.

Look, Charlaine writes these worlds.

She writes Midnight, Texas the novel, where a Southern town is filled with supernatural

people, a different part of the South to be sure.

And it's thematically different, but the world is very similar, I mean that's where Charlaine

lives.

For me, I love supernatural [things], it has those similarities but I think that's Charlaine's

DNA coming through.

Did you do anything to try to differentiate it in anyway?.

Monica Owusu-Breen.

I wanted to be true to the themes within the novel, which for me felt very different than

True Blood.

Because when I read it, I knew it had the DNA of a show that was very popular, but the

themes felt very different to me.

A very diverse town in the middle of a hostile environment, where they have to commit to

their community and defend one another.

But certainly, that was on my mind, you know [Laughs].

I understood.

I watched True Blood, I got it.

It was a little bit of an exercise in "Can this be done for network, and what would that

look like?".

To be perfectly honest, the novels are chaste.

The novels are about love stories, they're not about sex, and characters did not have

sex that much.

So it also felt like I didn't have to rethink the world that Charlaine wrote either.

It felt comfortably in the vein of what could be done on network television.

True Blood was metaphorically powerful in that vampires were used as a stand-in for

marginalized communities, specifically the LGBT community.

What social or political themes run through Midnight, Texas?

Owusu-Breen: I think Midnight, Texas is a group of people in the middle of America who

are diverse.

who come from different backgrounds, who sought sanctuary and solace in a place where they

respect one another's differences.

And it's how do we become community in the face of our differences?.

I loved my winter in Midnight, Texas this year, when the country felt so fractured.

Among all of us on set, being on Midnight almost felt like a little wish fulfillment.

Look, everyone is so different.

All these characters came from these really different histories, they all have pain and

rage and anger at people.

and they're brought here, but here they find a community that accepts them warts and all,

differences and all.

They are Midnighters, the Midnighter accommodates all that difference.

I feel like our country feels very fractured, differences do feel so insurmountable.

For me there's a very honest truth about America which is, we're diverse.

And we can actually be a community despite that.

that doesn't take away from the community.

So there's a kind of wish fulfillment, I call it "the kind heart of Midnight".

There's a hopefulness about community mattering and being able to supercede difference through

love.

Aww, that's sweet.

The pilot was made over a year ago, do you think things would have changed if a certain

someone wasn't elected president?.

Owusu-Breen: No, I mean that was what attracted me to the books, frankly.

There's a moment in the third book where Fiji stands in the middle of Witchlight Road and

says.

"Look at this town, there are Latina people and black people and white people and we're

all here and we're all Midnighters.

and that's so beautiful to live in a place like that".

So for me, that one little sentiment from a character in the third book was always something

that.

you know, you asked me how I wanted to differentiate it from True Blood considering that the DNA

is so similar.

that was something that was so important for me.

Midnight, Texas premieres Monday, July 24 at 10/9c.

How Fear Forced A-Rod to Start a Company I Fortune - Duration: 2:51.

A-Rod Corp, essentially, is my family office

and I run it like a small boutique private equity firm.

Where we feel most comfortable investing is real estate,

is the auto dealership space and anything to do with fitness.

It started out of fear, it started because I kept seeing so many athletes

go from rags to riches to rags.

I would see their careers and their lives change over one injury.

I saw them be in the penthouse on a Monday

and get injured on a Wednesday

and be down to, you know, under the basement.

And then I started looking at the numbers

and over 70% of athletes were going bankrupt.

And all of that scared the... you know what out of me.

And I said to myself -- if the average career in major league baseball

is five and a half years, then if I play for that and I buy an asset a year, and I put some

moderate debt, then by the time I'm 35-40, I would have at least five assets that

would throw off cash and I'll have no debt on it, and that would be a good...

good game plan not to fall into that 70% negative category.

I think just not understanding the way the capital structure works, right?

Not understanding the ramifications of - if you live in California or New York

50% goes to the government, 5% goes to your agent, 10% goes to your management.

And before you're looking at, you are not dealing with a full $10, now you're

looking at, you know, $2.5 and that is your budget, and then a lot of times

because players are thinking that they got the full $10 they may be spending

$6, $7, or $8, and think they're doing well,

but in reality, they're in the hole.

As I was spending a lot of time in Las Vegas,

I was trying to find a good place to work out, and everywhere I went,

everyone kept saying, "TruFusion, you got to tryTruFusion."

I'm like, "What is TruFusion?"

From my athlete friends, to entertainers, to dancers --

everybody was just infatuated with TruFusion.

So I finally went and I loved it.

I mean the very first time I went in, everything from the group classes

to the fact they have 40 classes per day --

the classes are hot up to 104 with 80 degrees humidity -- it was just awesome.

I really enjoyed every part of it.

You know I took Jennifer to TruFusion and she loved it.

I think she had a little bit of an advantage because she's a dancer and

she's very good at Yoga, and she's good at all the things that I'm really bad at.
