Liverpool transfer target Christian Pulisic backed to sign… but there's a twist ● News Now ● #LFC - Duration: 2:08.

LIVERPOOL could ultimately land Borussia Dortmund sensation Christian Pulisic - but in a similar

way to how they signed Naby Keita.

That is according to German football expert and pundit Raphael Honigstein.

A fee was agreed with RB Leipzig last summer for Keita to move to Anfield in July.

And Liverpool are looking to raid the Bundesliga again at Jurgen Klopp's old club.

Chelsea are also keen on US teenage playmaker Pulisic, but the Reds want to lure him to

Merseyside.

With a deal unlikely to be struck ahead of next Thursday's Premier League transfer

deadline, though, attention could turn to 2019.

Honigstein feels Liverpool may see off competition for Pulisic, whose contract runs until 2020,

by settling for an arrival next year.

"If things don't change in terms of extending his contract is concerned, then he will then

definitely be sold in the summer of 2019," Honigstein told ESPN.

"That puts it into an interesting context because if you know there's a club now, you

wouldn't force a deal through this summer, you could say 'how about next summer?'.

"I think Liverpool, who have been very smart in recent years, could do almost 'a Keita'

and say, 'you know what, next summer, Dortmund have to sell you.

Why don't you come to us then?'

"'We'll do a do a deal now... of course it's not strictly legal, so you have to keep

it quiet'.

"But it's being done all the time in football, and that's a very realistic scenario."

Liverpool have spent the most of any Premier League club this summer following the signings

of Keita, Fabinho and Alisson.

Marco Asensio was filmed trolling David De Gea before Real Madrid's pre-season friendly with Manchester United in Miami earlier this week

As the players made their way through the Hard Rock Stadium tunnel before kick-off, Asensio was heard shouting 'Karius, Karius' at his Spain compatriot

The forward appeared to try and unnerve De Gea before the game on Tuesday by comparing him to under-fire Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius – the Reds man made two key mistakes in their Champions League final defeat against Real back in May

However, Asensio's cheeky dig didn't quite work as United ran out 2-1 winners over Real in their final pre-season friendly

While De Gea wasn't affected by Asensio's trolling, Liverpool fans unsurprisingly took offence to the remark and quickly took to Twitter to slam the Real Madrid player

"Very disrespectful," one fan wrote. Another supporter said: "Have some class." "That's just pathetic (sic) kicking a man while he is down

Assensio got no values," a third fan commented. A fourth supporter wrote: "This is disrespectful as s**t

" While De Gea wasn't put off by Asensio's trolling for the friendly, he did make a number of mistakes while playing with his Spain team-mate in the World Cup

One massive error came during Spain's 3-3 draw with Portugal when the United no 1 allowed Cristiano Ronaldo's strike to slip through his fingers

Juan Sebastian Veron

Veron was a highly talented superstar who joined United from Lazio.

Named as the next big thing in football, he was introduced to a very well established

United midfield at the time.

But he never really could adapt to the pace of premier league and was sold of to Chelsea

two years later.

Sir Alex later on went on to tell his side of Veron's failure in his autobiography stating

that the player never really made an effort with the other players, was difficult to manage

because of his flamboyant attitude and the fact that he refused to learn English.

He was such a talented acquisition, that had it worked, it would have allowed United to

reach levels which they were only able to achieve 5-6 years later with Ronaldo.

4th. Anderson

Anderson was highly regarded by Sir Alex Ferguson as one of the most talented and inspiring

young midfielders coming through the ranks.

He was signed for £19mn from Porto.

But, Anderson's excessive weight due to irregular eating habits and inability to grasp the English

language and a string of average performances would never have made him an obvious choice

under LVG.

And hence was offloaded by United through a free transfer in 2015.

He has then ended up playing in his home country for Internacional and has been transferred

to Adana Demirspor on July 30, 2018.

Memphis Depay

One of the better signings of United under Louis van Gaal, Memphis (didn't want 'Depay'

to be associated with him due to his history with his father) had been assured of a very

promising career at United.

His physique was well appreciated by the everyone around him and it seemed like LVG had played

a master stroke by signing him from PSV in 2015 for £25 million.

He had all the skills in his armory, blinding pace and world class technique.

His poor performances were what caused his doom at United, he fell out of favour with

LVG very soon and even though came on as a substitute in many matches and provided those

super sub performances, he never really caught the manager's attention on the pitch.

He was offloaded to Lyon in January 2017 by Jose with a buy back clause, but that, it

seems was just wishful thinking on United's behalf as he has yet to prove himself over

there as well.

Second.

Owen Hargreaves

Sir Alex signed him from FC Barcelona for £17m in 2007 even though he had spent most

of the season on bench due to a fractured leg.

His first season proved that Ferguson had made a good move due to his decent performances

but the plethora of injuries to Owen soon turned out to be his nemesis.

Succession of injuries led him to have operations on both his knees and this made him miss out

majority of the matches during his time at Manchester United.

He failed to impress during his three comeback attempts and was never really in favor during

the later stages of his career at United.

His dismal fitness records forced United to release him and he later went on to join City

before retiring at the age of 31 due to prolonged injuries.

He is fondly remembered for the match winning free kick against Arsenal.

First.

Angel Di Maria

Considered the best player signed by LVG, but not the best signing.

Di Maria came from Real Madrid when he had already proven his mettle at the top level

of football and was considered as the player behind whom United would achieve greater successes.

United smashed the British transfer record for him and everything looked bright from

there on along with Falcao, Memphis, Schneiderlin and others.

However this story was short lived due to many reasons.

LVG's playing style never really suited Di Maria's and this made him confined to a very

concrete style of play where none of Angel's tricks and skills could work.

This conservative approach to football did not agree with Di Maria.

And to add to that, off field incidents like the burglary at his place, never really allowed

him to get settled in Manchester.

It was in the latter half of his first season were he was restricted to the bench most of

the time, that it was visible that Di Maria was not here to stay.

And it was confirmed that the tensions between the Gaffa (LVG) and Di Maria were growing

immensely when Di Maria failed to join the United squad on a pre season tour and eventually

moved to PSG two weeks later.

Gonzalo Higuain's future at Juventus has been one of the talking points of the summer transfer window

Chelsea emerged as early suitors of the striker as it became apparent Juve would look to move him on

The £105m signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid effectively condemned Higuain to a move away from the Old Lady

Chelsea have been joined by Milan in the pursuit of the Argentina international. But where does Higuain stand now? And do Chelsea have any hope of snapping the striker up? Here's what we know…Higuain to leave Juventus This should happen before the transfer window closes

Juve need to sell Higuain in order to cover part of Ronaldo's £105m transfer fee and £106m four-year contract

The forward has failed to impress since he made his £75m arrival to Juve from Napoli two years ago

Many Juve fans want to see him sold and Juventus hope they can earn £49m from his departure

Where can Higuain go? Chelsea and AC Milan appear to be his only options. Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri coached Higuain while the pair were at Napoli

But the Blues have found transfers tough to come by this summer and only have Jorginho and Rob Green as additions to their current arsenal

As for Milan, they are interested in signing the forward after a disappointing season last term

Milan finished sixth in Serie A despite spending £150m on new players in 2017.How the Higuain to Milan deal looks Higuain to Milan would suit both Juventus and their San Siro rivals

Milan will get what they hope is a goalscorer. And in return they are willing to entertain a deal that sees Leonardo Bonucci, who only left Juve for Milan 12 months ago, return to Turin

The two deals are related but do not rest on each other. Bonucci will be swapped for Juve's Mattia Caldara, while Milan will have to pay for Higuain

However, good relations between the two clubs need to be kept up at this stage and there is a hope all three deals can go through

So why hasn't the deal been done yet? As it stands, there is no fixed agreement between all parties

Reports in Italy claim Bonucci is willing to accept a €2m annual wage cut to force his move back to the Allianz Stadium

Caldara appears happy to move clubs too. But there is a problem with Higuain. He is unhappy that the terms of the agreement will be an initial loan move

The loan proposal would cost £15m, with a further £30m then due at the end of the season

Milan want to do this in order to offset the transfer over two financial years. It may also mean a pay cut for the ex-Real Madrid striker, who will be dropping down to a club not competing the Champions League next season

Can Chelsea swoop in? Yes, but they face a race against time. The Premier League transfer deadline is August 9 - three weeks before Italy's closes

Juve can therefore take their time over a deal with Milan, rather than trying to rush through an agreement with Chelsea

The Blues would also likely then look to offload Alvaro Morata, who struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge last season

But very few clubs are able to pay the £60m transfer fee Chelsea forked out for the Spaniard 12 months ago - and even fewer would be willing to spend that this close to the deadline
