- Over the recent past, there have been artworks,

editorial cartoons, and celebrity jokes

depicting US President Donald Trump

and Russian President Vladimir Putin as lovers.

Some of these imply the two are so close

that they're literally in bed with each other,

whereas others portray Trump

as being sexually subservient to Putin.

Even gay icon, Bette Midler, deleted a tweet

saying that Trump was only meeting Putin in Helsinki

so he could orally service him.

Some people see these depictions as satirical

political humor, poking fun at two

ultra-macho world leaders,

whereas others simply consider them deeply homophobic.

Gay kissing, ew gross, look at the homos.

But who's right?

Let's look at both sides.

(light music)

People who see these images as homophobic

say that these jokes don't actually hurt Trump or Putin.

They merely hurt queer people

by reinforcing the idea

that there's something funny about same sex attraction,

and that homosexuality makes you less of a man.

They see the images as bottom shaming,

shaming people who prefer to be

sexually subservient to others.

Reinforcing these ideas encourages widespread homophobia,

the sort of homophobia that encourages others

to mock, harass, bully, abuse, or even kill queer people.

If you've ever been bullied yourself

for being a "gross homo,"

these images probably don't seem like something to laugh at.

People who like these images see them as a form of

subversive political humor

that shatters the hyper-fragile masculinity

of these two ultra-masculine strongmen.

I mean, Putin rides shirtless horseback

and Trump brags about grabbing women by the pussy.

What could be more weak and masculine than that?

These images point out that their

Fascist brand of masculinity is a complete fraud,

and because both men are rampantly anti-LGBTQ,

what better way to skewer them

than to literally show them in bed together?

Both sides make important points,

but perhaps a better question is this:

Is there a way to make fun of Trump's

subservience to Putin and both men's

ultra-macho queer phobia

without depicting them as lovers?

What do you think?

Choosing Falling or Rising Intonation: Show You're Done Talking or Ask a Question - Duration: 5:41.

Are you done talking?

Have you finished your thought?

Can I answer your question now?

If so, please let me know with your voice.

Welcome back to the English with Kim YouTube channel, where you'll learn what to say, how

to say it, and why it matters.

If you love learning how to use your voice more effectively, please be sure to hit subscribe.

You're probably really careful with your choice of words, but your intentions might be misunderstood

if you use the wrong intonation pattern.

If your pitch rises when it should fall, you may sound uncertain or insecure, or the person

you're speaking with may think you doubt them.

If your voice drops when it should rise, you may sound annoyed instead of curious.

Or the other person may not be sure if you're asking them a question, or telling them what you think.

Native speakers often turn statements into questions by changing their pitch

at the end of the sentence.

If your tone always rises at the end because of how you use pitch in your native language,

part of your meaning may be getting lost in translation.

If you think that someone has misunderstood you, it may not actually be your language,

it may be your tone of voice.

The number one reason why non-native English speakers need to master falling intonation

is not because it's the most common intonation pattern in American English, although it is.

As far as I'm concerned, falling intonation is so essential because it lets the other

person know that you've completed a thought.

Falling intonation invites us to respond.

Without thinking about it, native speakers are listening for a clear signal that you're

ready for us to take over the conversation.

If we don't hear this clear fall at the end of your statement or information question,

we might not know that it's okay for us to speak up.

Of course, there will always be people who interrupt or jump in when you're not quite

finished, but polite people will wait for a clear cue that it's okay for them to start speaking.

People who work with international students and non-native English speaking professionals

often comment that they're not sure when the other person has finished speaking.

I encourage you to think about whether your voice falls at the end of your statements.

Is it easy for a native speaker to hear that you're done talking?

If not, the other person may not be sure if you're asking them a question or telling them

what you think.

And yes, this is also a problem with native speakers who tend to end their sentences with

uptalk, or rising tone at the end of their statements.

People will ask, "Are you asking me, or are you telling me?"

If you are asking a yes or no question, that's when you want to make sure you use a rising

tone at the end of the question.

Choosing the right intonation helps your listener interpret what you're saying.

If you're not confident using rising and falling intonation, please don't worry.

You're not alone.

After all these steep glides can take some practice.

We sometimes need to change our pitch on short, one-syllable words.

Let's take a look at some examples so you can hear how the difference in intonation

changes the meaning.

The project isn't done yet.

The project isn't done yet.

In this example, I'm using falling intonation, and just stating a fact.

The project isn't done yet.

Let's hear how it changes with rising intonation.

The project isn't done yet?

The project isn't done yet?

In the second example, I'm using rising intonation, and I'm asking the statement as a question.

I'm checking and confirming to see if that's true.

The project isn't done yet?

This suggests that the other person has to tell me yes or no.

Depending on the tone, this can also show disbelief or frustration.

Let's try an example with a tag question.

You saw that movie, didn't you?

You saw that movie, didn't you?

In this example, I'm using rising intonation in order to check and confirm with the other

person whether or not they saw the movie.

You saw that movie, didn't you?

Let's try it with falling intonation.

You saw that movie, didn't you?

You saw that movie, didn't you?

In this example, I'm saying it as a statement.

I'm pretty sure that the person has seen that movie.

We probably had a conversation about it earlier.

You saw that movie, didn't you?

It's almost like I'm affirming that idea to myself.

One more example, they'll be here in an hour.

They'll be here in an hour.

As you can hear in this example, I'm just giving a fact.

They'll be here in an hour.

Now, let's try it with rising intonation.

There'll be here in an hour?

They'll be here in an hour?

By asking this statement as a question, I may be checking this information.

Maybe I'm checking to see if it's really going to be an hour.

If I increase the pitch even more, I may be completely shocked.

Maybe they're running late, they were supposed to be here three hours ago.

They'll be here in an hour?

As you can hear that very steep rise in pitch signals that I can't believe that it's going

to take so long.

They'll be here in an hour?

Now that you understand how using rising or falling intonation can change the meaning

of the sentence, I want you to take a moment to write your own examples.

Try writing examples using words you already use, questions you may ask, or statements

that make sense for your life.

Then try saying them with the correct tone.

We often talk about the same subjects again and again, so it can be helpful to practice

with ideas that are familiar to you.

I especially encourage you to practice this with factual statements you often make about

your life.

Learning how to signal that you're done talking by finishing your statements with falling

intonation can really help native English speakers understand you.

Remember, using falling intonation at the end of your statements invites the other person to respond.

It signals to the other person that it's okay for them to jump in and continue the conversation.

That way you get a break, and they have a chance to share their ideas.

If you need more review on how to use rising and falling intonation, as well as how to

use different intonation patterns to show emotions, be sure to check out my playlist

on intonation patterns in American English.

I'll include a link in the description below the video and also in the cards.

Once again, I'm Kim from englishwithkim.com.

I'm your guide to the essential conversation skills you need to sound more natural in English.

If you like this video, please give it a thumbs up and share it with a friend.

English Tutor Nick P Verb Phrase (51) Call Off Someone or Something - Duration: 3:22.

Hi this is to Tutor Nick P and this is Verb Phrase 51. The verb phrase today is to call

off someone or something. All right. We have two different uses today for to call off someone or something. Let's take a look at the first one here. If

someone calls off something, they stop doing an event or plan which was already

arranged or scheduled. Of course, that's one way we call off something. We can call off an event or you can call off

some plan that you were going to do. All right. Let's look at the second meaning we have here. To tell an animal or person to stop attacking or being

aggressive toward someone. So both uses are used to call off someone or something. All

right. So let's look at the first example. The baseball game was called off due to

rain. This is very common. We often use it with sports or some event like that. If it had to be

canceled for some reason or at least temporarily stopped. Maybe rescheduled. We

say that it was called off. Okay. So let's take a look the next one. The strike was

called off because the unions came to an agreement with management.

So maybe the unions were planning. This was a plan. They were planning on going on

strike. But maybe just before the deadline, they came to some agreement. So

they didn't have to have a strike. So the strike was called off. They didn't go

ahead with it. They came to some agreement. They came to some terms, and

they avoided it. Good. All right. Let's look at number three. Of course, this one

goes to the second meaning here. So it's to call off like an animal.

You should call off your dog. If he bites me I am going to sue you. So this would

probably be a situation where probably the dog was already barking at someone

or growling. ( arggh, arggh) ( growling sounds) Something like that. And somebody is saying you better call him off.

You know because he's afraid the dog may attack him. Okay. Let's look at number four. He paid off his debt to that loan shark.

Remember a loan shark. That's when you borrow

money not from a bank, you borrow it from some person. Probably connected to the mafia

or something like that. Usually at a very high interest rates. And if you borrow money

from this person, you better pay them back. Because they may hurt you, if

you don't. So he paid off his debt to that loan shark So that the loan shark

would call off his goons Yeah. So just like if you don't pay back the loan

shark. He'll send some big tough guy maybe to rough you up. You know, to beat you.

Threaten you. Possibly you know, if it gets really serious he might start breaking

parts of your body. Break , break your fingers first or something like that, or

break some fingers just to make sure that you come up with it. So if he calls

off his goons, he tells his goons don't bother him anymore. He paid. So that the loan

shark would call off his goons to stop threatening him. So maybe they came

to visit him. Maybe they gave him a warning. Hey you know, if you don't pay by

Thursday or Friday you know, We're going to do something to you. Okay. Good well

anyway, I hope you got it. I hope it's clear. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.

How the Music of My Hero Academia Guts (Or Enhances) the Essence of a Scene - Duration: 6:43.

Hello & Welcome - To Replay Value

My Hero Academia is well regarded for its action music - You Say Run and all of its

variants, Trinity, United States of Smash!

- Yuki Hayashi has done a fantastic job of composing memorable music that perfectly matches

the tone of My Hero's action scenes.

But there isn't a lot of conversation in regard to how the score is used in the context

of the show.

We can all agree that music and sound help to build a scene - a piano solo written in

minor played over some rain is going to feel sad, just as much as the contrast between

what we see and what we hear can create an unnerving sensation.

The really powerful moments and their songs are the ones that people think of and remember,

but a show's score is pervasive.

Meaning gets attached to songs based on the scenes they were featured in, the leitmotifs

being utilized to convey subtle connections and remixed to accompany changes, hell silence

can take on new meaning depending on where and when it's used.

So today I want to talk about how a scene has its meaning totally changed by the song

that was used, and counter that with an example of how the soundtrack was perfectly used to

heighten its tension.

We're talking about the two most recent episodes from the 3rd season, 15 & 16 - the

Ochako float, and the fight with Cammie.

So I'll just say right off the bat that I read the manga for My Hero and thus went

into this scene with certain expectations.

The first scene in question is before the UA students leave for the provisional license

exam.

And I would say that for the most part - especially the specific time in question of the girls

chatting, the sound is a good match - it's got the fluffy sound effects that one would

expect to come with a flustered character, and the light hearted I will become a hero

track that's playing right now in the background.

Ochako being asked about who she has a crush on causing her to float as Mina Toru & Jiro

press her for info is a fun scene that also keys us into the fact that Ochako's gotten

much better at being under the effect of zero gravity.

And the transition to a brief moment of silence is great - but what follows afterwards

is where my problem with the scene comes to the forefront.

The song that plays at this moment is "Symbol of Peace" which has, from its first introduction

way back in Episode 3 of the first season - been connotated with All Might.

Because of this track, the focus becomes Deku and his new fighting style bringing him closer

to ascending to All Might's position as the Symbol of Peace.

It's not about Ochako's growing feelings for him, nor their relationship as Deku being

someone who she admires.

It's in the context of Ochako's rose colored lens sure, but that's not the information

that's being conveyed here - at least not in the audio.

I don't think that's a bad thing, I personally disagree with the decision - mostly because

of how much his role as the successor is beaten over our heads, but that's the meaning they

wanted to get across.

But just imagine if the scene had stayed silent, a moment of quiet reflection for Ochako, or

maybe like this...

That's how I originally read the scene - much more focused on Ochako and her feelings as

were signposted earlier in the episode and in the previous one.

Admittedly I think the visuals in the manga also lend themselves to that interpretation

since they're eye lines are matched up and Deku's muttering is a small panel compared

to the 12 seconds it receives to get adapted.

This scene is a great example of how music can change an interpretation - it allows the

scene in the anime to take on a new meaning while still capturing the original which is

great, even if the original meaning is downplayed immensely because of the direction the show

chose to go with...which isn't so great in my opinion.

But I don't want you to think I'm some kind of silence purist when it comes to adaptation,

or stuck in my own headspace of how the score should be used in every scene.

The fight with Camie is a great example of how My Hero's anime adaptation really adds

something through music.

As Deku is thinking to himself how exciting this exam is, a piercing note plays until

it's silenced by Camie's acrobatic attack.

It's a great transition and introduces the character as an immediate threat - even beyond

her taking out one of his targets.

The music that follows is super unsettling -

which obviously couldn't be done in the manga.

And all of the interactions with Camie in the arena are similarly creepy, and the music

amplifies that with deep cello and the occasional digital distortion.

In the manga she doesn't come off as creepy until she's got him pinned,

but here she's constantly that throughout.

A song like, the threat of offense and defense could have been used here to convey the battle

- but instead the music is here to reinforce how Camie is affecting Deku psychologically,

her presence literally makes the music uncomfortable to listen to.

But that's nothing compared to the perfection of Camie disguised as Ochako.

It starts off with this nice piano melody which makes you think that this going to be a heartfelt moment…

ugh it's so perfect.

We had transitioned to more of a standard combat song when the other students attacked,

so this moment isn't super weird tonally.

But when the creepy tune comes in it instantly throws us back to what we'd left behind

only minutes before.

Just imagine if the previous scene I discussed had used the light piano song and then brought

it back here to undercut it!

That would have been a really powerful moment, where the audio betrayed the audience as much

as this visual would seem to.

This feeling of the unknown and threat, discomfort and creepiness is carried here mostly by the

music - the visual direction here definitely doesn't hurt but with another song, this

interaction wouldn't convey those feelings properly and that's something to be applauded

here.

Again I want to stress that I don't think My Hero Academia has a fundamental failing

in how it chooses to utilize Yuki Hayashi's score - on the whole it does a great job,

and even when I think a different track might be better, I can understand the rationale

behind that decision.

When working with an audio visual medium, it can sometimes be easy to forget how the

audio creates, subverts, or compounds meaning - and being aware of the sound design as a

whole, but especially the score, allows us to understand the work more fully than if

we simply focus on the visuals.

And of course, seeing an adaptation that understands what can be added through a channel that does

not exist in the original is always a pleasure.

- Will they deep fry a bologna sandwich? - Yes!

Will they deep fry a soccer ball?

They will deep fry anything. It's literally in the name.

- Who'd wanna deep fry a soccer ball? - You're the one who asked!

[music playing]

But my way is the best way of taking care of Chip.

Eh! We're not naming him Chip.

That's right. His name is Tiny Elvis.

And his name is Admiral Squishy Paws.

Clearly he's a Gary!

- Gary? - Gary?

[music playing]

Oh, no!

The school already has a kid with tiny green pants!

[music playing]

- I'm here for courage! - I'm here for a heart!

I'm here for a brain.

And I'm here to get back to Kansas because there's no place like ham!

[music playing]

This year, I'm finally gonna win that stuffed banana with the face on it.

What is it with you?

Every year you blow an entire month's allowance on game tickets

trying to win that stupid banana.

It's not stupid.

It's wearing glasses.

[music playing]

Where is the nearest bus station?

[speaking foreign language]

[music playing]

Oh! Sheesh!

- Not good. - What's not good?

Toppings. You loaded it with all the heavy ones.

You got pound cake. It's right in the name!

Next time Britt, go with the lighter, more affordable toppings.

Like sprinkles or nut dust.

Got it!

[music playing]

All right!

"I love you guys" on three. Ready?

One...

Two, three!

I love you guys!

[music playing]

I'm telling you.

It's just like season four episode twelve.

Sheryl and Dave wore wigs so they could keep their secret!

[music playing]

I made the soccer team!

I made the soccer team!

I made the soccer team!

What's up, teammates?

Feels so good to say that.

Teammates!

Teamies!

[music playing]

I mean, we do look pretty great. Don't we?

Hi, I'm Ricky Harper.

- Asteroid attack! - Asteroid attack!

Hey, babe.

Let's make science.

Our pleasure!

You sure you know how to drive that thing?

How hard can it be?

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!

We should help her.

But not right away.

[screaming]

🥃 Mustard Oil: Dangerous & Toxic or Healthy & Tasty? - Duration: 3:30.

Hi, I'm Dr Sam Robbins,

So I'll be honest with you, I've gotten a lot of questions about Mustard Oil and if

it's okay to eat it.

And the truth is, I really didn't know much about this oil.

Other than mustard I put on my Hot Dogs growing up, I had no clue what Mustard Oil was, if

it's dangerous or healthy, toxic or tasty.

The good news is that I'm going to give you a quick summary about it in today's

video and share with you what I've learned.

What Is It?

Mustard oil is made from pressing the seeds of a mustard plant to produce a spicy oil.

One reason I hadn't heard much about it is because mustard oil is popular in Eastern

cooking, although some American chefs have begun experimenting with the oil, which has

a heat and distinctive flavor to it.

Banned By FDA

Real mustard oil, however, is actually banned for cooking uses by the FDA.

This is because it contains an ingredient called erucic acid that has been shown to

cause heart problems.

Erucic acid is a fatty acid that it is not well metabolized.

It's considered a contaminant.

Essential Oil Only

However, the FDA does allow a different type of oil, called mustard essential oil, to be

sold for cooking.

Mustard essential oil is made from steam distillation of mustard seeds.

It's considered safe for use in cooking by the FDA.

Both mustard oil and mustard essential oil is used for massage, but only the "essential"

version can be used for cooking.

Benefits

However, there are some benefits to mustard essential oil.

Boosts Cardiac/Heart Health Because it's rich in both mono and polyunsaturated

fats, it helps lower "bad" cholesterol and raise the "good".

Contains Antibacterial and Antifungal Properties

Improves Hair Health This is because it's high in omega 3 fatty

acids, which has anti inflammatory benefits

Reduces Pain Associated with Inflammation

Treats Gum Disease

Good For Skin This is if you use it topically

I can tell you more, but let me just give you the bottom line for Mustard Oil.

Regular, unregulated mustard oil can be dangerous, so don't bother using it.

The "essential" oil version is much safer and you can even cook with it.

However, I wouldn't bother.

You can use it on your skin, it's better and less risky than eating it.

However, even with that I suggest using other oils - Emu, Almond, Coconut, etc.

So there you have it - an interesting oil, but there are much better, healthier and safer

oils for you to use topically and in your foods.

If you found it helpful, please give it a "thumbs up" and "share the health"

with others, so they can benefit as well.

In the comments section below, let me know what you learned today and what you liked.

Also, please do me a big favor and let me know what topics you'd like me to cover

NBA STAR Abducted By ALIENS - FACT or FICTION? - Duration: 15:16.

Love and loss.

Otherworldy encounters.

A miraculous streak of bad luck.

The stories we have for you tonight may sound too fantastical to be true, but not everything

is as you think it will be.

Was a man visited by beings from another world?

Did a terrible morning save another from tragedy?

Did a journey through a cave lead to the end of a potential lifetime of love?

It's time for you to decide, what's fact.. and fiction.

The line that divides the factual from the unreal has long since blurred, the tales we

once thought fantastical now implanted as truth.

To decipher verity from the imagined, you must break from the ordinary and consider

a universe where the outlandish prevails.

Can you expand your mind to see beyond our perceived reality?

Can you decide what's fact or fiction?

First, we have a tale of adventure and tragedy, that of Emma Trent.

Seeking excitement on their Thailand excursion, Emma's fiance, John Welsh, had the perfect

thing planned for them.

Emma had never been underground, and she never expected her first journey to be her last.

Story # 1: The Incident at Phraya Nakhon Cave He had promised her the adventure of a lifetime

and Joe wasn't one to exaggerate.

Their trip to Thailand had been a nonstop series of thrills and adventure and Emma was

ready to take on another experience.

Their target was the Phraya Nakhon Cave, a location she had heard of during her time

in the country, but was told it was near impossible to find.

Of course, Joe found a way, and so the two of them and their fellow travelers - Don,

Maggie, their two sons, 10-year-old Albert, and the two guides Joe secured - set off.

Getting to the cave was as difficult as Emma was told, but the beauty of it was well worth

the effort and wait.

The walls shimmered beneath the beam of their flashlights, the specks of gold a natural

marvel she knew could never be matched.

As they explored the cave, following their guides to find the temple hidden deep within

the Earth, Emma couldn't believe that she was there.

Her joy, however, was shortlived.

About halfway through the cave, a steady roar echoed and overpowered the pleasant conversation

and directions of the guides.

Before any of them could make sense of what they were hearing, Emma saw the wall of water

rushing towards them.

Joe was quick to grab his fiance and find the closest place to climb, but they were

the only ones to escape the deadly wave.

Emma glanced back in time to see the guides and Albert swept away.

The family tried to follow Joe and Emma, but acted too late.

Emma climbed ahead of Joe, struggling against the slickness of the cave wall.

Her fingers struggled to grab a crevice, causing her to lose her footing and slip past Joe.

Luckily, he had always been quick with his reflexes and was able to grab her before she

hit the water.

The two kept climbing, eventually finding a ledge they could fit on and get their bearings.

Fearing they would never make it out of the cave, Joe told Emma he'd go to find help.

Despite her insistence that he stay, Joe thought he could ride the current to an exit.

With a kiss, he dropped into the water, leaving Emma to wait.

And so she waited, listening to the water rush beneath her.

She would never have guessed that, when another group happened upon her after the water had

subsided, she had been stuck on the ledge for eight hours.

Free from her underground prison, Emma tried to get word of Joe's survival.

When she was brought to a morgue, she got her answer.

Joe was laid out in a box next to one of the children.

Emma was the only survivor of their excursion into Phraya Nakhon Cave.

A joyous trip into the belly of the Earth gone awry.

It's not entirely unbelievable, but does it make sense that Joe opted to leave Emma behind

to get help?

With the water having taken most of their group already, would he really have thought

the current would lead him to safety?

And if so, why didn't he take Emma with him?

We'll reveal whether this story was true or not in a bit, but for now, vote by using the

onscreen poll and in the comment section, and get ready for another tale.

Alien encounter stories are nothing new, but are usually unbelievable in nature.

Take this story of Bryan Davison.

As they all seem to start, Davison was driving alone one night on an empty road - this time

on I-15 heading to Los Angeles, when his world, quite literally, was turned upside down...

Story # 2: The Unexpected PIt Stop Bryan wasn't used to I-15 being this empty,

but considering the time of night, it didn't surprise him.

He cut through the pitch black highway, his headlights offering the only source of light

for miles.

Leaving the bright city lights of Sin City behind him, Bryan was anxious to get back

home, but he still had more than half of his 4-hour drive ahead of him.

He kept at a leisurely pace, the dark of the road keeping him on edge and closely watching

for the desert critters.

He had let a series of cars pass by, their high beams illuminating the area around him,

but once they vanished over the hill ahead, he was again left by himself.

When a ball of light seemed to dance across the sky over the highway that stretched out

in front of him, Bryan figured it was just a trick of his imagination.

Even with the radio humming gently, it was still a quiet and lonely ride.

As he came over the hill, the light zipped by him again, this time much closer to his

car.

He knew he saw it this time, and while he struggled to determine what he had witnessed,

the unthinkable happened.

Bryan suddenly felt the need for sleep falling upon his eyes, so he rubbed at them and blinked

to relieve some of the strain.

In the brief instant that he was in darkness, he had been pulled from his car and brought

to somewhere unnatural.

He didn't remember how or when it happened, but when his vision cleared, he was no longer

driving on I-15.

Instead, he was looking at the interior of a metallic structure.

What looked like steel, surrounded him entirely, and as he tried to crane his neck to see every

facet of the unusual place, he found himself restrained to a table and his hands tied tight

together.

He had been so distracted by the change in his surroundings that he hadn't noticed the

other beings in the room with him.

They were terrifying, their look hauntingly ugly.

Most importantly, though, they weren't human.

Bryan wanted to panic, but he felt a rush come over him as the beings prodded at him,

their inhuman hands inspecting every inch of his body.

They didn't speak, at least not that he could hear, and only seemed to want to satiate a

curiosity about the man they had snatched.

Bryan could only watch as their hands poked at his body, but he felt a slight agitation

when one of the beings poked at his nose hard.

He wanted to bark out at them, try and scare them away, but nothing came to him.

Then, just as quickly as the incident hit him, Bryan found himself once again surrounded

by the familiarity of his car.

Finally able to speak and move, he let out a confused and excited scream.

Pulling over to the side of the road, he checked his body for markings and ran through the

past five minutes, trying to put the pieces together.

Just when he was ready to assume he simply fell asleep at the wheel and imagined the

white light and the strange creatures, he saw the light again, this time bouncing away

from him before vanishing deep into the pitch black of the desert.

It sounds a little too fantastical to be true, but could Davison's story have an ounce of

truth to it?

Surely, the empty road, the pitch blackness, and the sleepy drive would be enough to cause

Davison to hallucinate the flash of light in the sky, but did he fall asleep while driving

and dream his encounter?

Find out later during the reveal, but for now, let's continue on with the story of Donald

Temple.

All he wanted was his first day at work to go smoothly.

He never expected everything to go wrong that morning, but as he would later find, his misfortune

wound up being his greatest stroke of luck.

Story # 3: A Stroke of Luck It wasn't technically his first day on the

job, but it was Donald's first day back after losing a big client for the law firm of Hunter

and Gally.

Surprised that he hadn't been immediately canned, he didn't want to ruffle any feathers,

so he planned out the perfect morning to ensure he wouldn't get stuck in the city traffic

and arrive late at the office.

Unfortunately, or so he thought at the time, the morning wouldn't be so kind to him.

In the twilight hours, as he slept soundly, power to his home was lost, ensuring that

any alarm he had set wouldn't wake him.

If that had just been it, the 30-minute delay may not have completely ruined his morning.

The spilled coffee, the burnt eggs, the missing keys, and the lack of clean laundry, however,

exacerbated the initial delay.

By the time he actually left his home, Donald was already an hour late.

That also meant he would be stuck behind the morning school bus procession, tacking on

another 30 minutes to his tardy.

Besides the few stoplights he couldn't get through, the rest of Donald's drive was surprisingly

clear until he reached the daily problem area: the Brooklyn Bridge.

As he made the slow crawl along the bridge, he could see his office towering in the distance.

He felt as if the eyes of his boss were staring at him from the upper floor, silently chiding

him for his tardy.

With nothing but breaklights ahead of him, Donald kept his eyes locked on his destination,

playing through the inevitable conversation about his commitment to the firm.

Just as he got to replaying his staple apology, he spotted something approaching the building.

Seconds later, it erupted into a fireball and a thick cloud of black.

Donald sat dumbfounded, staring in confusion at the stream of smoke that filled the city

skyline.

As the traffic remained unmoving - and he figured would remain as such - he never let

his eyes fall off the smoking tower.

He only broke contact to watch as a second object, a plane, slammed into the side of

the second tower.

He didn't think of it that morning, as he watched the Twin Towers collapse, but many

people tell him how lucky he was to have had a stroke of bad luck that morning.

As we near the end, consider this final tale where a man's misfortune wound up being the

best thing he could ask for.

Was Donald so lucky that his bad luck saved his life?

Let us know what you think in the poll and comment section below.

Now, let's get to what we've all been waiting for.. the reveal.

Are you ready to find out if you can decipher between fact or fiction?

Let's look back at tonight's three stories and find out which were born from reality

and which were fabrications of the imagination.

We opened this episode with the tragic story of Emma Trent and her trek into Phraya Nakhon

Cave.

Do you think her experience in Thailand ended in tragedy and with the death of her fiance?

If not, let me introduce you to Helena Carroll, survivor of a very similar incident that unfolded

in the Nam Talu cave in Khao Sok national park.

Helena's fiance, John Cullen, took her on an expedition to the cave with a Swiss couple,

their two daughters, a 10-year-old German boy, and two local guides.

Helena was the only one to survive when the monsoon rains flooded the cave.

How about our second story, that of Bryan Davison?

A strange encounter on the lonely road to Vegas.

It may sound like an impossible scenario, one best suited for a science fiction novel

or an episode of The Orville, but this is an encounter that a real person claims to

have had.

You actually may recognize him: NBA player Baron Davis.

During a 2003 broadcast of The Champs podcast, Davis told this exact story.

While we can't attest to what he really saw, all we can say is that he thoroughly believes

his claims.

Finally, let's have a look back at Donald Temple, an anxious man who just wanted to

perform well after a major mixup at his office.

Was his string of bad luck responsible for his missing the attack on the Twin Towers?

While there have been stories of people that, by chance, just never made it to work or on

the planes that day, Donald was not one of them.

How well did you do in tonight's video?

Did you look past the deception of our world and define the oft-blurred line that struggles

to separate lies from the truth?

Let us all know in the comment section below and should you find the urge to test your

perceptions again, be sure to subscribe and join us next time when we ask you to decide

what's fact... or fiction.

Art Clearance Sale? Good or Bad Idea? - Duration: 10:00.

I think that my

- Top two challenges were:

Is my art good enough?

- Oh, that's a big one!

- But the biggest one was actually,

but these are my babies.

These are my creations.

When I was connecting with you last summer,

I'm like, I don't know if want to let these go.

And I think I mentioned that to you on that thread,

it was just like, ah.

And you said well maybe it's a hobby then,

if you want to keep all your art.

- When the artist is serving a mission.

And like really serving it.

The only way they can serve it in this context,

is to sell their art.

- [Listener] Right.

- But if they're not really clear on the value

and the service that,

the mission they're serving,

it's harder to let go.

- That's exactly what I was thinking about this week.

- So that's one point I wanted to make.

And then the other thing,

that you just wanna might wanna consider.

And that the other thing is,

can you imagine another business that was,

like, trying to hold onto it's inventory?

Like a pie maker? (laughs)

- Right, well, that's exactly what I was thinking.

We don't hold onto our performances,

unless you make a recording.

You do a performance for the people,

and then everybody leaves the concert hall.

I do a yoga class,

and everybody leaves the studio.

You're not gonna do yoga for 50 years all the time.

(laughs) You know.

Why would I expect to hold onto my art,

and every single piece that I make.

It doesn't line up with anything else

that I'm doing that way.

- Right.

- So it was a great question.

And again, I think a lot of it comes down to the service.

I was thinking, what's the difference about

holding on or giving away your art,

versus holding on or giving away your yoga or music.

And it's about the service component.

So when I look at it that way,

it's kinda like, okay well,

well if I realize I'm serving through my art,

then that takes on a whole different meaning

in terms of what I'm doing with it.

- You can't sell your art unless it does serve someone.

Unless it does provide value for someone.

So, I think that that is where

some of the confusion comes in.

Clearance sale, bad idea.

Giving it away, go ahead, you got yourself a hobby.

That's fine.

I'm not, you can do whatever you want.

And actually, I encourage students

to come to a healthy conclusion.

That they either want to sell their art part time,

or full time,

or leave it as a hobby.

That is perfectly respectable and acceptable.

And your choice.

But where students will suffer,

artists will suffer,

is they have some confusion.

They're treating it like a hobby,

they're approaching it like a hobby,

but they really want to get paid.

That's, that can really hurt

a lot of people.

A lot of artists.

What do you do with art

that you are probably not gonna sell?

It's stacking up in your studio,

and you're not so sure about.

Or maybe you don't even make that type of art anymore,

and you don't want to.

I mean there's all sorts of reasons why, right?

- Right.

- And artists ask this question about what to do with it.

And they'll ask me, well should I sell it?

And should I try to sell it at discount?

Should I have a, should I give it away?

There's also just, like, the logistical, practical aspect.

Making, you know, art is physical.

And it takes up space.

And so, you only have so much space.

And so, what I hear artists talking about

is selling it a discount,

and I really don't recommend that.

- Right.

I've had some conversations with friends

this week about that.

And I really appreciate this part of that

from the program in terms of saying this is my bottom line.

This is how much this piece cost.

I like how some of the people

are responding on the thread

about also creating over that art.

You know, it maybe it's not something that you realize

needs to go out into the world.

And you can recycle it or something.

I think it's okay to say

- Make that. - It's purpose.

And maybe it's served its purpose for my growth.

But it doesn't need to necessarily be sold.

- I'm a big believer in recycling,

and moving forward.

I think that this idea of permanence,

that art is permanent is a real illusion.

I like your analogy of teaching yoga,

or doing a musical performance.

It's a temporary,

it's a temporary act of service that comes and goes.

If you want to sell your art,

and you then turn around and give it away,

or offer it at a discount,

well you've just devalued your art.

And you've been incredibly disrespectful

to not only the people who've paid you full price,

but even the people you've asked to pay you full price.

- Right.

- Think about it from that perspective, too.

- [Artist] Right, uh huh.

- I like to destroy it. (laughs)

That's fun to me.

For me it's a way to let go.

- Right.

- There is only one painting

that is a small watercolor,

that I won't ever sell.

And it's because it's the first,

literally the first painting I did

after an absence from making any art whatsoever

for over a decade.

And I knew when I painted that painting,

that I would return to art.

Like, I had a complete epiphany

that I would return to art.

So it's, for me it's just an important symbol

that marks a milestone in my life.

But otherwise, everything else is for sale. (laughs)

The other option would be, like, if you're really,

if you need physical space for your art,

but you just don't have room to store it,

you could always photograph it.

You could always have that photo,

you know, that archive of photos.

If you can kind of look at it that way,

as this was an investment of my research and development,

in honing my ideas.

Then you can maybe see the value in the edited product,

or the edited piece that you finally perform or sell,

or just, you know, if you've kind of like

switched the way you view it,

I think it could be helpful.

If your, if your current body of work

is most representative of where you are now,

do you really want to go digging in the garage

or the basement of the stuff

that has been so improved upon since?

I don't think so.

Why are you discounting?

Is it because you fear your,

because you're not really sure of your pricing?

Is it because you fear that you

really don't know the value of what you offer?

Because if you're coming from fear,

or ignorance,

and ignorance will ignite fear,

then you're not gonna make informed choices.

And you're gonna, very easily, injure your reputation

and just your sense of self confidence.

- One of the biggest ones is just the power of intention.

So much of the work that I've done up to course four,

has been about understanding your blocks,

and figuring out how to move through those

with positive intentional decision making,

on a daily basis.

So, I've seen that this week has been

kind of a mind blower for that.

I've had something happen almost every day

where I thought about it,

and came to fruition.

So that manifesting idea is huge.

- Mm hmm.

- And a big engine for any artistic enterprise.

So I'd say that's one of the biggest ones.

And then,

I think the other one goes back to

what you were saying about fear.

That there's just, there's nothing to be afraid of.

The negative thinking, perhaps.

You know, or the drifting,

which we read about in "Napoleon Hill."

But other than that,

there's really nothing to be fearful of, you know.

Take it out there, see what happens.

Engage.

It's been a great community to meet people,

and hear other people's journeys,

and hear how many things are similar.

All the videos that I've watched,

and you hear something that resonates

in each story.

So, just having that much broader sense of community.

The music world is very competitive.

- Yes.

- And we don't often have a chance for mentorship.

People don't talk shop.

They don't trade secrets.

So this has been a fantastic way

to broaden my world view as an artist.

And just really feel like I'm part of a bigger whole,

and have a place in it.

Why are you waiting?

(laughter)

Go for it!

(laughter)

I mean just that there's no,

there's no right or wrong.

So, you make a choice,

you decide if you want to for it or not.

Try it, see how it goes.

I love the flexibility you're offering, you know.

One way or another might work for your prototype project,

it might end up going full scale sales,

it might end up being a hobby.

But there's no right or wrong.

So commit to yourself in the process,

and see what happens.

- [Host] Right.

- This is well-worth your time and money.

So, it's an investment, not only in your art,

but very much moreso in yourself.

I mean, everybody that I've talked to

feels like they've just unpeeled so many layers.

You know, you can go do therapy for years,

not that you're offering therapy.

But it peels back all the layers.

And it helps you get to the essence

of what you're doing on the planet,

and how to be in that in a creative way.

Breaking News - HOT OR NOT: Phil Mickelson and Joe Root display their fun sides - Duration: 3:57.

It's Hot or Not time again as Sportsmail's RIATH AL-SAMARRAI reveals what's been making him feel warm and what's been leaving him cold this week

He behaved like a bit of an idiot during the US Open and it's hard to make a convincing argument for button-up shirts on the golf course, but it's impossible to watch the mad advert he launched this week and not laugh

Unlike too many of his rivals, he at least knows how to make a joke at his own expense

He got taken out by Virat Kohli on the opening day and then mocked on his way with that mic drop celebration

Predictably there was a section of social media bores who seem to hate the expression of any kind of joy or personality in sport and so they gave Kohli a bit of a kicking

Thankfully, Root wasn't one of them - he found it funny, because it was. The clip of him wailing courtside at 3am has gone viral but how brilliant that he cares so much about his sport after everything he's won

That show of emotion alone would suggest there is enough fight left in him for another push at the top, if only his body is halfway willing to play ball

They made what they called an 'unfortunate mistake' in censoring Colin Kaepernick's name from a lyric in one of the soundtrack songs on their new Madden NFL 19 game

Their explanation centred on a misunderstanding over whether they had the relevant rights to use his name, as opposed to anything to do with Kaepernick's anthem protests against racial injustice

Unfortunate is one word for it. The Russian high jumper won world indoor gold in Birmingham earlier this year and outdoors silver at London 2017

But he won't be at the European Championships next week after having his authorised neutral athlete status revoked by the IAAF after failing to provide whereabouts information under anti-doping rules

If ever there was a sporting nation that didn't deserve the benefit of any doubt

Everyone likes someone who stands up to a bully and that is what Anthony Martial appeared to be doing to Mourinho with his 'family will always come first' tweet

It is worth looking up in this instance how Gareth Southgate responded to Fabian Delph's brief exit from the World Cup to attend the birth of his child, and then comparing it to Mourinho's thoughts on Martial missing a few days of a pre-season tour to the US

Bears-Ravens QBs: Who Plays or Starts Hall of Fame Game? | Heavy.com - Duration: 9:05.

Bears-Ravens QBs: Who Plays or Starts Hall of Fame Game? | Heavy.com

We made it to football season.

The Bears and Ravens play the first NFL game of the new season on Thursday, as the Hall of Fame Game kicks off the preseason.

Both teams have interesting storylines heading into this season, but don't expect to see too much revealed in Canton.

With four more preseason games, these teams will be hesitant to reveal any of the scheming they plan to use during the season.

That being said, both teams have things to work out before Week 1.

The Bears are in a new offense under first-year head coach Matt Nagy, so everything they do will be studied and scrutinized.

They are also developing a young quarterback, and it's unknown how long Mitchell Trubisky will play.

For the Ravens, it's about the future at the position.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh has already told reporters that some players won't play at all on Thursday, but it's unknown if that will include veteran QB Joe Flacco.

The Ravens have a special young quarterback waiting in the wings, so this game has potential for excitement where some Hall of Fame Games would fizzle out.

Here's a look at every quarterback we could see on Thursday:.

Bears Quarterbacks. Mitchell Trubisky.

The future of the Bears franchise makes a rare hometown start on Thursday.

Trubisky played his college ball at North Carolina, but is from Mentor, Ohio, just over an hour away from Canton.

Trubisky got the keys in Week 5 of last season, and showed good arm strength and mobility in a Bears offense lacking on the outsides.

It isn't confirmed, but Nagy told reporters that Trubisky will "probably not play.".

Chase Daniel.

If Trubisky is wearing sweatpants, the starter for Thursday could be former Missouri product Chase Daniel.

Daniel has spent the previous season backing up Drew Brees, but spent three seasons with Nagy in Kansas City.

He also spent a season with Doug Pederson in Philadelphia, another former Chiefs offensive coordinator.

He's only appeared in seven games since 2014, but was signed to help Trubisky learn the new offense.

Tyler Bray.

Daniel will get the majority of work, but expect to see Bray in the second half.

Bray is another offseason signing that spent last year in the Chiefs system.

According to Bears reporter Adam Jahns, Bray is expected to see the majority of work on Thursday.

Standing at 6'6″, Bray went undrafted in 2013 and ended up in Kansas City.

He was on the active roster in 2014, but didn't get another shot with the 53-man squad until 2017.

He threw one pass last season, but will see much more work against the Bears.

Ravens Quarterbacks. Joe Flacco.

It's a big year for Flacco, but it likely won't be a big night.

Flacco isn't expected to play much if at all in the Ravens' opener.

Baltimore has four quarterbacks on their roseter, and they'll likely cut that number to three before final roster cuts.

That makes these preseason games crucial for shaking out the depth chart.

Flacco is healthy entering his 11th NFL season, but has been looking over his shoulder after the Ravens drafted an exciting rookie.

If Flacco does play, which he shouldn't, don't expect to see him for more than one drive.

Lamar Jackson.

This is why I'm watching on Thursday.

The Ravens selected Jackson with the final pick of the first round, raising questions about the future of the franchise at the position.

While it was debated wheteher Jackson would play quarterback at the highest level, that's where he's been practicing so far in training camp.

The Ravens have been finding different ways to get him involved in the offense, including a trick play where he throws the ball to Flacco.

It's unknown how much action Jackson will see, but the plan is to split the majority of reps between him and Robert Griffin.

Robert Griffin III.

It's been a bumpy road for RG3, who was unsigned last year after an uneventful 2016 in Cleveland.

While out of football, Griffin was considering training for the Tokyo Olympics.

The former Redskins quarterback that lit up the NFL in 2012 was training at Disney's Wide World of Sports with sprinter Justin Gatlin before the Ravens called.

Now Griffin is back in the fold, and competing for a backup spot in camp.

It's tough when you have a veteran like Flacco and an exciting rookie like Jackson, but Griffin could prolong his NFL career with strong preseason performances.

More than anyone else, Griffin is playing for his career.

Josh Woodrum.

The forgotten man in Baltimore.

Last summer, Woodrum made headlines only because the team signed him over taking a chance on Colin Kaepernick.

The former Liberty QB is expected to see minimal action on Thursday, as the Ravens need to get Jackson and Griffin looks to evaluate their roster.

Woodrum spent last season in Baltimore, and already knows the system.

Which is more beneficial: egg whites or yolks? - Duration: 7:11.

Which is more beneficial: egg whites or yolks?

Are you passionate about eggs? If so perhaps more than once you've wondered which is more beneficial – the egg white or egg yolk.

Experts tell us that, in general, eating the whole egg is very healthy.

That said, every part of the egg has specific components that we invite you to discover in this article.

Eggs are an essential part of our diet, a high source of nutrients worth including in our everyday meals.

You do not need to worry about the false myth of their high level of cholesterol.

These are predominately unsaturated fatty acids which are ideal for taking care of our cardiovascular system.

So let's get to know the benefits of each part of the egg, shall we?.

Benefits of egg whites.

Which do you like more: egg whites or egg yolks? There are many people who separate one part of the egg from the other, thinking that they are taking better care of their cholesterol.

It is thought that the egg white is the most healthy part of the egg.

Let's see what all the benefits are:.

Egg whites have absolutely no fat.

They have very few calories which makes them a very healthy food.

The greatest risk occurs when we eat, for example, a fried egg, as the oil used is what contains the fat dangerous to our health.

They are rich in vitamin B complex.

Egg whites have fewer calories than egg yolks.

They tend to be well suited for weight loss.

Many people eat only egg whites for their breakfast because they provide much protein, vitamins and are also satisfying.

However, we don't recommend eating "only" egg whites for breakfast.

It is better if you combine them with other foods, like a bowl of oatmeal or a fruit smoothie, for example.

Egg whites are used for many beauty remedies: they are excellent for toning and softening the skin and can also treat any type of irritation.

Egg whites also have a kind of peptide that helps to lower blood pressure.

Benefits of egg yolks.

Egg yolks have more protein than egg whites.

The yolk is rich in fat.

Surely you know that.

Their content is about 4 grams of fat per egg, of which only 1.5 grams are saturated or negative fats.

The rest are unsaturated fats and are very beneficial to the body.

Their cholesterol level is very low and therefore harmless to healthy people.

If you tend to have high cholesterol you can somewhat restrict their consumption, but don't eliminate them completely since their protein index is very beneficial.

Egg yolk is a powerful source of vitamins and minerals.

It is rich in iron, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium.

As for vitamins you will find the following: vitamin A, E, D, B9 (folic acid), B12, B6, B2 and B1.

Nor should we forget that it is one of the few foods rich in vitamin D.

Another fact about egg yolks that we must not ignore: they contain a substance called choline.

Do you know why this is beneficial? It is good for brain health, for our memory and to fight diseases such as Alzheimer's or dementia.

Impressive without a doubt.

Egg yolk is also rich in lecithin.

What this element does is join with the cholesterol to prevent it from being completely absorbed by the body.

Lecithin is essential to nurture and care for our bone marrow, brain, liver, heart and nervous system.

It helps care for our heart health and also helps to improve memory and concentration.

Who can say now that eating egg yolks is something unhealthy? Absolutely no one!.

There are many people who eat raw egg yolks or combine them raw with smoothies in order to obtain the protein.

This is a mistake.

Eating raw egg yolks can cause diseases such as salmonellosis.

You should know that it is always better to eat cooked egg yolks since the health properties will remain the same and you will avoid any problems.

In conclusion: Which is more beneficial: egg white or egg yolk? Both parts are healthy.

The egg white is fat free and the egg yolk, although it has a small amount of saturated fats, is very rich in protein.

What is the recommendation? Eat whole eggs.

Along with a varied and balanced diet you will be taking great care of your health.

And they are delicious!.
