There was speculation that the annual ASEAN Regional Forum, the only multilateral forum

that North Korea participates in, could help boost discussions between Pyongyang and Washington

on denuclearization.

But at the forum, the two showed a sharp contrast in their views on sanctions.

Oh Jung-hee tells us more.

Expectations were high at the ASEAN Regional Forum.

With the foreign ministers of South Korea, North Korea, the U.S. and China all present

-- it was hoped the forum could provide momentum in the struggling North Korea-U.S. denuclearization

talks.

But the annual regional forum ended with no foreign ministerial meetings at all between

the two Koreas,... nor between North Korea and the U.S.

The tug-of-war continued between Pyongyang and Washington... with clashing views on sanctions.

Making his statement at the forum, North Korean foreign minister Ri Yong-ho stressed that...

Pyongyang has already taken some 'goodwill' steps -- halting nuclear and missile tests

and dismantling its main nuclear test site.

Pointing out that Washington is not responding to such actions and is still holding onto

sanctions,... he said... both sides will have to work things out simultaneously.

Meanwhile, speaking to the reporters separately, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo emphasized

the need to strictly enforce all sanctions against North Korea,... mentioning recent

reports about illegal ship-to-ship petroleum transfers.

Over the weekend, the U.S. also slapped new sanctions on North Korean and Russian entities,...

saying sanctions will remain in place until North Korea's final denuclearization.

Reports have been pouring out from Pyongyang for several days in a row -- all urging Washington

to take actions in return for the North's efforts, namely, lifting sanctions.

Pyongyang's state-run newspaper Rodong Sinmun claimed on Monday... that the UN resolutions

should have disappeared already as Pyongyang has taken some practical steps.

Saying that the most important thing now is to build confidence with one another, it urged

the U.S. to abandon sanctions and pressure.

While Washington is firm in keeping its economic pressure on Pyongyang, especially with its

joint military drills suspended,... how North Korea and the U.S. find a middle ground remains

to be seen.

'Serena Williams winning US Open would not be a surprise'

Serena Williams lost to Johanna Konta in straight sets, 6-1 6-0, but the former American Fed Cup team captain Mary Joe Fernandez believes that the former world No.

1 could go far at Flushing Meadows.

This year Williams reached Wimbledon final losing to the German Angelique Kerber.

'It would not surprise me if she won the U.S.

Open, but it's not going to be a piece of cake', Fernandez said.

Serena had many complications after giving birth her daughter Olympia, but Fernandez believes that it goes unnoticed when it comes to a champion like Williams.

'I fall into this too, because she's Serena.

You think she's going to win every match.'.

Sam Farmer made a comparison between Tiger Woods and Serena: 'He revolutionized the game and sort of collected detractors along the way.

He was so dominant you kind of rooted for the other guys.

Then he dropped off the edge and then he came back to the point where he was leading on a Sunday in a major.

This is a new chapter for Serena, and she is not only sort of a sympathetic character but a heroic character for a lot of people.

Doing what she's done at her age, there's almost a nostalgic appreciation.'.

Sexual Assault At The US' Largest Massage Chain - Duration: 4:13.

- I was the prey, he was the predator.

They knew it, I didn't.

It shouldn't have happened.

- The largest chain of massage franchises in the country

is now facing allegations from more than 180 people

they claim that they were sexually assaulted

at Massage Envy locations across the country.

According to a BuzzFeed news investigation

many of the accusers say their complaints

were either mishandled or ignored.

(melancholy music)

- One afternoon in May, 2015,

a woman named Susan Ingram lay face down

at her local Massage Envy Spa

in West Chester, Pennsylvania, which is one

of nearly 1,200 Massage Envy locations nationwide.

This was Susan's seventh session with James Deiter.

She trusted him, she was very relaxed around him,

so she closed her eyes and lay back as he massaged her.

And then without warning, he sexually assaulted her,

and Susan, like many sexual assault victims,

lay there frozen in shock, really not knowing what to do.

(pensive music)

- [Newswoman] After Ingram filed a formal police report

Deiter pleaded guilty to sexually molesting

a total of nine female clients and is now behind bars.

Citing court records BuzzFeed says two of those women

had tried to warn the spa about Deiter before Ingram had.

(pensive music)

- Melanie Hanson the General Counsel

for Massage Envy franchising told me

that the company has worked really hard

to create the industry's most stringent rigorous policies

for hiring, screening and training therapists

and she said we hold franchise owners

accountable to our policies

and when we say that nothing is more important

than treating clients with respect we mean it.

But my review of the companies policies found at the time

that they did more to protect the company brand

than they did to ensure customer complaints

were being handled appropriately.

Customers were violated in shocking ways

and then saw their reports brushed aside

without any professional repercussions or consequences.

(pensive music)

- At that time once the sheet was all the way down I knew

there was no going back, something was gonna happen.

- It went from being an ordinary day to finding myself

face down with the masseuses hand over my mouth

and him touching me completely inappropriately.

- Susan helped her representative

introduce bipartisan federal legislation

that would require owners and employees of massage spas

to report allegations of sexual assault to the police.

Congressperson said that reporting alleged assault

would help victims understand their rights

like pursuing an investigation and pressing charges

and the resources available to them.

And the bill would also require owners

to publicly display policies

about how they handle sexual assaults.

Shortly after my investigation

Massage Envy announced sweeping policy changes.

Although it remains unclear how much has changed thus far

numerous lawsuits have been filed since my investigation ran

and BuzzFeed News has received over 100 emails

from former employees and clients and other people

who wrote in to share their own experiences.

Many complained that Massage Envy Spas

also mishandle complaints made by employees

against their colleagues or against clients.

N. Korea, U.S. clash on sanctions at ARF - Duration: 2:43.

The curtains came down on this year's ASEAN Regional Forum on Sunday.

What's particularly interesting about this forum is that it's the only one that both

North Korea and South Korea, as well as the U.S. and China, all participate in.

There had been much anticipation ahead of this year's event because despite the positive

developments that had been made in North Korea relations this year, progress had stalled

recently, and it was hoped that if the ministers met, then negotiations would get back on track,

particularly between North Korea and the U.S.

Although they did meet, they did not sit down for formal talks and differences between the

sides remain.

Oh Jung-hee tells us more.

Korea braces for U.S. sanctions on Iranian imports including oil - Duration: 2:01.

Washington is set to re-impose sanctions on Tehran after withdrawing from the 2015 nuclear

accord.

The measures will not only limit the trade of Iranian automobiles and metals... it can

severly affect Korea's crude imports from the Middle Eastern country, meaning: gasoline

price hikes.

Kim Ji-yeon explains further.

The first round of the U.S. sanctions goes into effect on Tuesday following Washington's

decision to withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, also known as the Iranian

nuclear deal.

The sanctions will cover Iranian trade in automobiles and metals, including gold.

But even before the sanctions are fully imposed, Korea's outbound shipments to Iran are declining.

The Korea International Trade Association estimates exports to Iran dropped by more

than 15-percent during the first half of this year from the same period last year to around

one-point-seven billion U.S. dollars.

What's more worrisome for Korea is the second round of sanctions, which targets Iran's oil,

energy and financial industries, that's scheduled to come into effect in November.

The sanctions are expected to take the form of a secondary boycott that would apply to

companies and countries trading with Iran.

That means Iranian crude shipments is to drop by November... and could prompt a price hike

on local gasoline prices.

Iranian crude currently takes up nearly 98-percent of all Iranian imports to Korea and more than

10-percent of all crude shipments imported into Korea.

Local gasoline prices rose for the fifth straight week to trade at around one-dollar-40-cents

per liter on average... the highest level so far this year, according to the Korea National

Oil Corporation.

Already, the amount of Iranian crude imports to Korea dwindled by 18-and-a-half percent

during the first half of this year from the same period last year to 3-point-3-billion

dollars.

Tensions rise in Iran as US sanctions loom - Duration: 1:41.

In Iran,

tensions are rising as US sanctions loom.

In the city of Mashhad,

demonstrators took to the streets after Friday prayers.

The local cleric accused political leaders of ignoring the people's problems.

Anger is simmering over Iran's dire economic situation.

Social media has been flooded with videos

showing protesters angry at the high cost of living.

In recent months,

demonstrators have taken to the streets in several cities,

including Tehran, Ark, Isfahan, Karaj, Shiraz and Eshtehard.

The US State Department Persian branch reacted on Twitter:

"While it is ultimately up to the people of Iran to determine their country's path

America supports the voice of the Iranian people

which has been ignored for a long time."

U.S. president Donald Trump's decision

to withdraw from the Iranian nuclear deal in May

and reimpose crippling sanctions has hit Iran hard.

Its currency has lost nearly 80% of its value over the last year,

as foreign investors leave the country.

Outside gas stations,

queues can be seen

as many Iranians stock up,

fearing further rises in prices from next week.

The first round of sanctions will affect Iran's purchase of US dollars,

its trade in gold and precious metals,

and the U.S.'s own imports of Iranian carpets and food.

Aviation will also be affected.

State TV footage shows five new airplanes landing

in Iran's northwestern city of Urmia.

They are the last of the planes Iran will receive

before major aviation manufacturers are forced to halt

billion dollar transactions.

Though Boeing has announced it will end all business dealings with Iran

or the European companies including Airbus and Renault,

intend to stay in the country.

Meghan Markle to meet with her dad on solo US trip - Duration: 2:38.

The Duchess of Sussex is said to be planning the visit home next month for an emotional reunion with 74-year-old Thomas Markle, who is said to be "delighted", The Sun reports

Meghan — who celebrated her 37th birthday over the weekend — was said to be "deeply embarrassed and hurt" that her dad recently referenced Diana

The Sunday Mirror reports that the former lighting director is "keeping two dates free at the end of the month" to meet his daughter

"The possibility of a reunion has been discussed and Meghan looks set to incorporate it into her trip," a source said

"The location and exact dates will be top secret for both their sakes. It is a very sensitive time for them, but the intent seems to be to heal the rift

" A former aide told The Sunday Times the couple are working to "get dad on board", adding it is simply "not a very elegant solution" to cut him off and ignore him

Palace aides have reportedly had three top-level crisis meetings about how to deal with her family, particularly her dad

Markle, who lives in Mexico, has previously said the royals were freezing him out of his daughter's life over his staged paparazzi pictures and controversial interview with Good Morning Britain

In that he hinted at Harry's alleged political views — saying the Prince thought Donald Trump should be "given a chance"

He even suggested his health was in peril, and that he wanted to reconnect with his daughter before his death

The pair's fraught relationship has barely been out of the headlines since debate raged over whether Thomas Markle would make it to Meghan and Harry's wedding

He dramatically announced he would not be attending due to poor health and has since been vocal about this concerns with the Royal Family and his place in it

North Korea urges US to drop sanctions as it accuses Washington of 'acting opposite' to Singapore pl - Duration: 5:09.

North Korea's state media called on Monday for the United States to ditch crippling economic sanctions as a reward for Pyongyang's show of good faith in ending its nuclear weapons testing and transferring the remains of American troops killed in the Korean War

The calls came just days after a confidential United Nations report concluded that the pariah regime has not stopped its nuclear and missile programmes, and continues to conduct illegal trades of oil, coal and other commodities, reported Reuters

Kim Jong-un, North Korea's leader, and Donald Trump, the US President, agreed at a June summit in Singapore to work towards "complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula" but little progress has been made amid differing interpretations on both sides of what the declaration means

The two countries sparred over the weekend, with Ri Yong-ho, the North's foreign minister, accusing Washington of dragging its feet over confidence-building measures since the summit and stressing the need for "simultaneous actions and phased steps

"  His criticism was revealed in a transcript of a closed-door meeting of top diplomats at an Asian security meeting, also in Singapore, attended by Mike Pompeo, the US Secretary of State

Mr Ri hit out at Washington for "retreating" from ending the 1950-53 Korean War, which concluded with an armistice, not a peace treaty, leaving US-led United Nations forces, and South Korea, technically still at war with the North

The North's state media added fuel to the fire, accusing Washington of "acting opposite" to its plan to improve ties, despite Pyongyang making goodwill gestures

"There have been outrageous arguments coming out of the U.S. State Department that it won't ease sanctions until a denuclearisation is completed, and reinforcing sanctions is a way to raise its negotiating power," the Rodong Sinmun newspaper said in an editorial

In quotes | Singapore summit North Korea Trump Kim  Senior US officials, including Admiral Harry Harris, the new ambassador to Seoul, have also called for Pyongyang to start giving up its nuclear weapons before any breakthrough on ending the war

"One of the things that hasn't happened is the demonstrable moves toward denuclearisation before we can entertain something like the end-of-war declaration," Mr Harris told reporters last week

His statement was backed by Mr Pompeo, who suggested at the weekend that the North's continued work on its weapons programme was inconsistent with Kim's commitment to denuclearise

However, US and South Korean officials have also been at pains to show continued conciliatory gestures, and sources told CNN that there is a "strong possibility" of a second summit between Kim Jong-un and President Trump later this year

Mr Pompeo, meanwhile, stressed that despite the tense exchange over the weekend, Mr Ri had made clear that his country was still willing to denuclearise, in sharp contrast to the "anger" expressed by Pyongyang in recent years

Kang Kyung-wha, the South Korean foreign minister, also reiterated on Sunday that Seoul remains committed to bringing a formal end to the war by the end of the year, reported Yonhap

"I think the UN General Assembly (to be held in September) is an important opportunity," she said

"We are having close consultations (with partner countries)."  Ms Kang's efforts to meet formally with Mr Ri in Singapore were rebutted, however

She said she regretted the missed opportunity but respected his decision.   On Monday, state-controlled North Korean media continued to express Pyongyang's unhappiness over sanctions, with one outlet, Uriminzokkari, slamming the pressure campaign as "anachronistic" and a hurdle for better relations

Maeri, another North Korean outlet, stressed the need for U.S. action to build confidence in response to the North's moves to close its weapons programmes and send back the soldiers' remains
