First Lady Melania Trump committed a David Copperfield-level disappearing act during Friday's inauguration, with the internet unable to stop watching as her smile turns to shade faster than you can say "bigly."

Seemingly in response to her husband turning back around, Trump's historic scowl can be counted among a long legacy of looks of scorn. Here's how the First Lady's expression stacks up against other grimaces of greatness.
Gold medal glower
Michael Phelps is like a dolphin in the water but he can be a real pouty porpoise on land.

Though he's the most decorated Olympian of all-time, there's no dressing up Michael Phelps' disdain at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
The renowned competitive swimmer appeared to be staring down rival Chad le Clos as the South African danced in front of him, but Phelps would simply claim, "I was in my own zone. I was not intentionally mean mugging him or giving him a dirty look."
Regardless, it's hard to say who had the best scowl, him or Trump, but his accessories clearly give Phelps a handicap, his hood and giant headphones coming together to make him look like the grim reaper on laundry day.
Grump vs. Trump

Known on the interwebs as Grumpy Cat, this calico mix quickly became an internet personality thanks to a perpetual look of displeasure as well as people having too much time on their hands.
Despite having over 2 million followers on Instagram alone, getting named 2012's most influential cat and starring in the bizarre holiday film "Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever," Grumpy Cat, real name Tardar Sauce, is the cat queen of looking mean.
Melania easily wins this meow-packed matchup though, as Grumpy Cat's appearance requires zero effort thanks to an overwhelmingly adorable underbite and feline dwarfism.
In contrast, Trump's apparent level of aversion takes years of training, aka marriage to a man who brags about possible sexual assault to Billy Bush.
No Country for Old Menacing Looks

Much like Grumpy Cat, Tommy Lee Jones looks as though he's in a constant state of irritation.
That special scowl would in part propel 2007's "No Country for Old Men" to win the Oscar for Best Picture — a film that saw the agitated actor portray a small town sheriff lamenting the state of the world.
Between the "Men in Black" star and the woman behind Trump, the two tie in terms of their taciturn tempers. However, it's still saying something that Melania can go toe-to-toe with a four-time Academy Award nominee.
I'm McKay, You're McKay

Before Michael Phelps was featured for frowning, McKayla Maroney was setting the benchmark for smirking at the summer games.
The silver-winning gymnast's look of disappointment on the medal podium quickly rose to meme status, her pursed lips taking her all the way to the White House to pose alongside President Barack Obama to reenact her "not impressed" look with the former commander in chief.
For a single sad face to garner 15 minutes of fame was unprecedented, as she would go on to bring her signature sneer to such shows as "The Late Show With David Letterman," "The Colbert Report" and even "Dancing With the Stars: All-Stars."
For that reason alone, Maroney's anti-smile outshines Trump's in this angry-faceoff.

Urban's performance in "Dredd" is that of a man hollowed out by daily carnage as he attempts to maintain a wax paper-fragile sense of order in a world run by drug lords.
In short, he shoots a lot of people.

In this showdown between judge and Melania, Urban's grimace takes the prize for portraying an expression exhausted by the dystopia of his present, as opposed to Trump's scowl that signals a dystopia that is yet to come.
