Too fat to stand and their flesh rots while they're alive: The REAL reason America's 'Frankenchickens' have to be washed with chlorine as US industrial farming practices are exposed ahead of possible post-Brexit trade deal

The disturbing prospect of chlorine-washed chickens from the US going on sale in British shops in a post-Brexit trade deal last week sparked an explosive row at the heart of Government. But beyond the politics lies the story of why American poultry needs such drastic chemical treatment – and of the horrendous conditions at the farms where they are bred and reared.

Now whistleblower farmers have revealed the full horror of the suffering to The Mail on Sunday, including how: Tens of thousands of super-sized 'Frankenstein' birds are crammed in vast warehouses. The chickens, which weigh up to 9lb, often buckle under their weight and must live without natural sunlight.

Chickens frequently die before they reach maturity and many are left covered in their own faeces, turning warehouses into vile breeding grounds for disease. Unlike in the UK and Europe, there are no minimum space requirements for breeding chickens in the US. America also does not have any rules governing lighting levels in the sheds and, crucially, its farms have no maximum allowed level of ammonia, which indicates how much urine and faecal matter is present. This means there is no limit on how much can fester inside the sheds.

There is no legal requirement to wash US chickens in chlorine or other disinfectants, but 97 per cent of its birds are cleaned in this way after slaughter.

PHOTO: This image shows the chickens being doused in chlorine at a farm in the United States

The possibility of US chickens being sold in Britain after a post-Brexit trade deal sparked a huge Cabinet row, with Environment Secretary Michael Gove speaking out against the move while Trade Secretary Liam Fox insisted the chlorine-rinsed meat was safe. Dr Fox, who met leading politicians and businessmen in the US last week, sparked fury from the public and other Ministers after he signalled he would be in favour of dropping the EU's ban on importing chicken from the US if it proved to be a barrier to securing a post-Brexit trade deal with the US.

The furore exposed just how difficult it will be for Britain to quickly strike new deals with foreign powers once we leave the EU in 2019. Now whistleblowers have offered a disturbing insight into the £70 billion US poultry industry, which is controlled by the big agricultural firms lobbying to sell their meat to Britain. North Carolina farmer Craig Watts, 51, told the MoS: 'The birds are too heavy to stand because they have been bred for breast meat and nothing else so they spend their lives squatting. It's like two toothpicks sticking out of a grape

'They spend 95 per cent of their time sitting on the litter, a mixture of pine shavings and faecal matter from that flock and prior flocks.' He said 1,000 of the 30,000 chickens he raised every six weeks would die before they reached maturity. Many become infected on the underside of their chest because of contact with the litter.

He added: 'Their flesh would rot and, when you have them crammed in so tight, they will walk over other birds if they want to get to the food or scratch the others and cause a wound. It is awful.' Mr Watts, a married father- of-three, quit the poultry business two years ago because he was disgusted by its practices.

Nearly all America's chicken farmers are under contract with big producers who supply them with chicks, feed and equipment. The firms dictate what the farmers can do and are paid according to a 'tournament system' that pits farmers against each other. The farmer who produces the most meat with the least feed comes top. A less efficient farmer will have money deducted from his base pay. Critics say this system fosters unhygienic practices because it forces poultry farmers to cut corners on animal welfare to maximise their income per flock. Campaigners who work with farmers to improve standards say many are too scared to speak out for fear of having their contracts terminated.

One farmer, John – not his real name – is currently part of a class action lawsuit by chicken farmers against big US poultry companies. He said farmers earn between £9,000 and £30,000 a year even though they work 16-hour days.

PHOTO: This is a whole cooked canned chicken that is sold in US stores

'Last year [chicken firm] Pilgrim's Pride paid $2.2 billion (£1.7 billion) in dividends and we're going on 20 years since we've had an increase in base pay. We get around five cents [4p] a pound of meat. Seventy per cent of poultry growers live below the poverty level.' Campaigners who have infiltrated chicken farms in the past two years have secretly filmed shocking abuse and cruel conditions at farms across America.

Footage shot at a farm in Georgia last month by the Humane Society of the United States showed the owner of the farm bludgeoning chickens with a metal rod. The chicken shed at the farm also appeared to be badly overcrowded. Many birds seemed to be suffering from severe leg problems and some were unable to walk to reach food and water. Yet in the US – as in Britain – consumer demand for chicken continues to grow. Nine billion chickens were slaughtered in the US last year.

US chickens have more than tripled in size since 1957, according to academic studies. The birds cost 20 per cent less than British chickens, which are typically one third smaller than US birds. Major poultry producers have cross-bred and interbred birds in recent decades to create 'mutant' chickens which grow larger in a shorter space of time and need less feed. Peter Stevenson, chief policy adviser for British-based welfare organisation Compassion in World Farming, said: 'This genetic engineering has created unnatural chickens which give you larger breasts or bigger cuts of meat

'These chickens grow far too large too quickly and they cannot move around. They end up sitting in their own waste.' The animals bring more faecal matter to the slaughterhouse with them, posing the food safety risk which requires the birds to be washed in chlorine or similar chemicals. However, the US poultry industry maintains that its birds are healthier than ever.

Jim Sumner, president of the US Poultry & Egg Export Council, said US chickens are treated humanely and are only washed with chlorine to make them 'extra safe' for consumers because it guards against food poisoning bugs. He said the process was not harmful to consumers, adding: 'Sometimes these [animal welfare] organisations do not have a thorough understanding of the process or scientific facts.' Another reason poultry in the US is chlorinated is that farmers are not required to vaccinate against diseases such as Salmonella. Britain and the EU have widespread vaccination programmes.

Supporters of chlorine-washed chicken point out both the US and European food safety authorities have declared the chemicals used to wash chickens in the States do not pose any risk to human health. Tom Super, spokesman for the US National Chicken Council, said: 'Its [chlorine's] use makes the chicken safer. It is not present in the final product, it poses zero health risk.' But Jaydee Hanson, a senior policy analyst at the US Center for Food Safety, said: 'These chemicals are basically like the ones we put in our toilets to clean them. The question is why are chickens so contaminated in the first place. And the issue is that we are not doing a good job of raising chickens.'

Leah Garces, of the Global Animal Partnership, an animal welfare group, added: 'The fact we have to wash our food in chlorine to make it safe indicates that we are not doing farming right in the first place. It indicates how unhealthy we are raising our birds.' While UK chicken farmers are not wholly free from criticism from animal welfare campaigners, there are strict regulations that must be followed. In the UK and Europe, poultry farmers must not keep more than 17 chickens per square metre in their sheds. There are also rules governing available natural light, temperature and the maximum levels of ammonia.

In the US there is not one single piece of federal law that governs how to raise chickens. There is not even a law which states that chickens must be stunned unconscious before they are slaughtered, although it is common practice. There are concerns that if American chicken is allowed into the country, British farmers will be forced to dilute their welfare standards to compete with the cheaper meat.

Shraddha Kaul, of the British Poultry Council, said: 'We strongly reject any move to import chlorine-washed chickens as part of a makeweight in trade negotiations with the US. 'Chlorine is used as a catch-all. It is an approach which means it doesn't matter how badly you treat your chicken, you can just clean it away at the end of the process.'

#Man United appear to have signed Nemanja Matic as picture emerges showing Serbian in club colours - Duration: 4:12.

Man United appear to have signed Nemanja Matic as picture emerges showing Serbian in club colours

A PICTURE appearing to show Nemanja Matic wearing a new Manchester United training top has emerged. SunSport told you earlier United were close to agreeing a £50million deal to sign the Chelsea midfielder.

Nemanja Matic appears to have completed his Manchester United transfer. Reports have since emerged claiming Matic, 28, has undergone a medical at Carrington today.

And a photo of the Serbian wearing a United shirt has fuelled speculation his move is complete. Matic wears the No31 top in the snap – formerly worn by Bastian Schweinsteiger.

He has already agreed terms to make the Old Trafford switch. Matic sat out Chelseas pre-season tour of China and Singapore – alongside Diego Costa – in an attempt to seal his Stamford Bridge exit.

Jose Mourinho has been desperate to bring in a new defensive midfielder, with former Blues signing Matic a top target.

Nemanja Matic factfile Born in Sabac, Serbia, in August, 1988. He began his career aged five at Vrelo, where he was coached by his father, just 500m from his house.

In 2005 he signed for Serbian club Kolubara, and then moved to Slovakian side Kosice in 2007. He spent time on trial at Middlesbrough before Chelsea beat Sunderland and Tottenham to sign him in August 2009 for £1.5million.

After two first team games, Chelsea sent him on loan to Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem. In January 2011 Matic was sold to Benfica along with £21million in exchange for Brazil defender David Luiz.

He flourished at Benfica, was named Portuguese Player of the Year and reached the Europa League final, where they were beaten by Chelsea.

In January 2014, Chelsea, under manager Jose Mourinho, signed him back for £21million, and he made his second Chelsea debut against Man Utd.

He has won two Premier League titles in three seasons at Chelsea, and last season played 40 games, scoring twice including a stunning strike in the FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham.

Matic is a strong tackling defensive midfielder who is tactically disciplined and at 6ft 4in tall is very good in the air. His brother Uros is also a professional footballer, with FC Copenhagen.

He is married to childhood sweetheart Aleksandra, who he met at school, and they have two children. The United boss was locked in a transfer tussle with Juventus over Matic but the Italian club gave up on the chase.

It left him with a clear path to resign his former player. Matic joined Chelsea from Serbian club Kosice in 2009 for £1.

He was sold to Benfica in 2011 and resigned by the Blues – under Mourinho – for £22m in 2014.

United are short of midfielders and may need to dip into the market for another player after Marouane Fellaini reportedly agreed terms to join Galatasaray.

Kate Middleton and Prince William urged not to have third child in bizarre open letter. - Duration: 2:11.

Kate Middleton and Prince William urged not to have third child in bizarre open letter.

Kate Middleton and Prince William have been encouraged not to have a third child in a

strange open letter.

A San Franciso-based children's organisation called Having Kids addressed the British royal

couple by "respectfully" asking they don't expand their family or "consider forgoing

having a third child".

Kate and William (both 35) have two children Prince George (four) and Princess Charlotte

(three) and the couple's influence has been noted by the organisation, namely urging them

to "model a sustainable small family" for the public, citing poverty and climate change.

"Of course, we know that Prince George and Princess Charlotte are certain to have wonderful

lives, protected from the deprivations of poverty and the threat of environmental degradation,"

it reads.

"They will receive optimal amounts of care and attention, as well as the best possible

education.

But the same can't be said of every future child."

The letter, written by Carter Dillard and executive director Anne Green, notes that

families "consider forgoing another child and taking part of the substantial resources

saved to help a different family plan a fair start in life for their child", which is not

exactly an issue for the British royal family.

"The point is simply this: Family planning should be child-centred, and the Fair Start

model is a serious move towards ensuring all children get the equal opportunities in life

they deserve.

And that they do so in a healthy, safe, and greener environment."

The letter is in response to Kate's light-hearted comment about having "more babies" during

a recent visit to Poland with her husband of six years.

The couple were given a soft toy designed to comfort newborns, which Kate politely quipped

in response to receiving the gift: "We will just have to have more babies."

The open letter has received mixed reaction from supporters and critics alike.

Moonvok is here to get his hair done.

(Cutting)

But...

(What happened to Moonvok?)

What could have happened?

(What happened to Moonvok?)

It's a shocking style change.

(Is he getting a cut to welcome summer?)

(He's looking so pretty.)

(Goodbye, long-haired Moonvok.)

(It's short-haired Moonvok now.)

- Hello. / - You're here.

Hi.

How do I look? I got a cut.

(I'll just laugh.)

Does it look good?

I got a cut.

(It feels refreshing.)

You didn't really cut it, did you?

(Who is this man?)

He hid his long hair and put on a short wig.

(It's a wig.)

You look like a different person.

- Right? / - Rowoon.

- Look. Who is it? / - Guess who I am.

Who am I?

Look. Don't you know who it is?

Who is he?

- Who am I? It's me. / - Is it not Moonvok?

- She doesn't know. / - Who could it be?

- Rowoon. / - Who is it?

She doesn't recognize me.

She really doesn't.

- Who is that? / - Who am I?

Am I a stranger?

- Give me a kiss. / - Who is that?

(Rowoon moves back.)

(This is how Rowoon kisses Moonvok.)

It's worth the hard work.

(Rowoon loves Moonvok.)

- She really doesn't know. / - No.

- Who is it? / - Who am I?

Am I a stranger?

Rowoon, who am I?

It's me.

Moonvok, you better keep your hair long.

(They're back home.)

You can hold it well even without handles.

(She's consoling herself with some milk.)

Here it is.

Do you have to eat every kind?

(Chewing)

(She's skillful at eating snacks.)

(Her mouth is full.)

What?

(Why is this so tasty?)

One carrot.

(It's not enough.)

(She spots bananas.)

Here, here. Bananas?

(She has to fill her mouth to be satisfied.)

Is it good?

Watermelon. Have some watermelon.

You're having a feast for breakfast.

(She's giving her dad a watermelon.)

Thank you.

(One isn't enough.)

This is for me, and this is for you.

(It's a tiny tea set.)

Have some tea.

(She's drinking tea at 14 months.)

How nice.

(Their love grows with a cup of tea.)

It's good. I'll give you one more.

(One more, please.)

Have a drink. Cheers.

(Cheers!)

Both hands. Be polite.

(For some reason, it's not enough.)

It looks like you spilled some.

(Finishing off the tea ceremony with...)

Anchovies?

(Anchovies)

You're like a drinker.

(She gives her dad 47 anchovies.)

This is delicious.

(Now that I'm full, shall I move around?)

Rowoon is starting her day after breakfast.

(Where is she off to?)

She's in the room where the reptiles are kept.

(She's suddenly removing the elastic.)

(What's going on?)

She's not trying to open the door, is she?

(She's a professional at turning keys.)

(Banging)

(It's open.)

It's open.

(Is she giving the lizards freedom?)

(The reptile apartment is open.)

(He's rapping while doing the dishes.)

(She's opening the other door.)

(Come out and play with me.)

(She's signaling them that they're free.)

(Open wide)

(Rowoon is leaving the scene.)

(Humming)

(It's another busy day.)

(Surprise!)

(The door's open? I'm hungry.)

(Are you hungry? I can't stand hunger.)

(I'm going to leave and search for food.)

(They're escaping.)

What are we going to do?

Rowoon caused trouble.

The lizards are escaping to freedom.

They're enjoying freedom in various corners.

(They're in different places.)

Why is that open? Hold on.

(She rushes in guilt.)

They're out. When did we open this?

Let's count how many are left.

11, 12, 13...

We have 14, so 10 of them escaped.

(She looks around aggressively.)

Right now...

(Rowoon brings a cage.)

Let's close the door.

(Dad, let's catch them and put them here.)

We're in trouble.

(Babbling)

(Rowoon, let us out again next time.)

I always close this. Was it Moonvok?

(Moonvok is sleeping.)

(Here comes the nosy baby of this house.)

(Staring)

(Moonvok is sleeping.)

(She crawls up.)

(Wake up, Moonvok.)

(Surprised)

- Moonvok. / - Yes.

- Gosh. Gosh, Rowoon. / - Put it on.

(Welcome to Moonvok's room.)

Okay.

Rowoon.

(Rowoon and Moonvok get along as always.)

(Follow me.)

Moonvok.

(I have something for you.)

(It's a hat to protect your hair.)

A hat.

(Come follow me.)

Rowoon.

Rowoon.

- Let's go. / - Let's go.

Rowoon's family is out for a walk.

- Good job. / - Good job.

Great. That's how you do it.

You have to control your pace

for when you're busy and when you're not.

It's hard now,

but you get shocked when you take a break.

(Flopping)

It's like that for everyone.

But we're musicians.

We write lyrics and create as rappers.

Even if you're busy, continue to create.

Keep on writing lyrics.

You can get inspiration while on a break.

Clean my shoes.

Thank you.

(Loco's no exception.)

(Pulling)

(Confused)

Rowoon, are you wiping Loco's feet?

(Wanggun is upset.)

(Wanggun is climbing stairs.)

(Struggling)

Wanggun can climb stairs.

(I'm going to rebel.)

Wow, a terrapin.

- It's a turtle. / - It's not a terrapin.

Guess how old it is.

- Eight. / - Eight years old?

- More. / - More.

(That's wrong.)

- More. / - More than that.

- 13? / - Up.

- More than that. / - Up, up, up.

- 14. / - It's 22 years old.

- It's 22 years old. / - It's as old as me.

(Wow!)

(It's a turtle show.)

(Rowoon will show them how to feed Wanggun.)

She's feeding it.

Wow. That's amazing, Rowoon.

You can all try.

One at a time.

You have to go one at a time. It'd be too hectic.

(Rowoon stares at the girl.)

You can hold it. Here.

- Again. / - Come here.

(Have you ever fed a turtle before?)

(Glancing)

Rowoon.

- Is she your daughter? / - Yes.

(I clearly look like a girl.)

Gentle, gentle, gentle. How cute. How cute.

How cute. Gosh.

(Welcome to the mobile zoo.)

It likes people.

- It's cute. / - Isn't it?

- What is it? / - It's a lizard.

They're not scary. They like people.

(Does your dad have reptiles, too?)

- You can go... / - Mom, buy me one.

(Buy me a reptile.)

(Thanks to Outsider, kids want reptiles.)

Let's go buy one at the supermarket.

Jang Moonvok?

Jang Moonvok?

Who is he?

One, two, three.

- The light's behind us. / - It's okay.

(He's nice, but he only has one face expression.)

I voted for you.

Really? Thank you.

- He's a famous person. / - Not really.

- No, I'm... / - He's very good at rapping.

Five Minutes Forward - Episode 26: "I Don't Have Time" - Duration: 3:51.

Hi.

I'm Paul Greiner,

principal consultant with ALS

Consulting and this is

Five Minutes Forward.

How many times in the last week

have you said or

heard "I don't

have time?"

This week's message is "what

you do with your time is

up to you."

So, I recommended removing

"I don't have time" from

your vocabulary.

It's your choice.

You have the time.

It's just that you're choosing

to do something else with it.

Right? You could do whatever

it is someone's asking you.

You could do that thing that

occurs to be.

Yeah. Probably a pretty good

idea if I did it.

But I just don't have time.

Yeah.

You actually do.

You could invest your time in

doing that thing.

And you don't have to.

So, to stop disempowering

yourself with another can't,

with another ready-made excuse.

Right, and then it's a good

one. Other people buy it.

It's like a badge of honor in

this culture to be really,

really busy.

I'm too busy.

I don't have time.

I can't get to that.

If you want to deal with things

effectively.

If you want to deal with things

completely and

keep giving yourself power

and stop giving your power away

to your schedule,

to what you claim the world is

pressing on you,

then take your power back

and get and say

"No.

I'm just not going to do that."

That's got power.

That's got reality to it,

because that's simply what's

going to happen. You're either

going to do it or not.

The choice is yours.

You could put the time in,

if it occurred to you as being

important.

Certainly, if it occurred as

being vital and urgent,

you would make the time.

So, just know that

you could make time for it.

You're just choosing not to,

and if it's important enough

carve out some time in your

calendar in advance.

I remember being in a meeting

with a management team where

a middle manager came

to the table.

He had proposed a project with

a new process for how they

could manage their production

flow, and

it was OKd.

We said let's move forward with

it.

Here is your job.

Here's what your task is.

Right. Like lead up the team

and his response was

"I don't have time.

I'm too pressed. I can't even

get my job done the way it is

currently." So,

my question was;

Are you sure?

Now show me.

We'd already done the training

where every aspect of the

team's work was in their

calendars.

So, when you're managing your

calendar effectively and

rigorously, you can see what

you have time for and

how you have to create time if

you need to do something else.

The short story was of course

he had time.

When we rigorously documented

what he was doing.

How much time that took and

what was left over.

He had plenty of time to head

the project which was

appropriate because it was his

idea.

He knew it was important.

He knew it would make a

difference and once we got

past the illusion called "I

don't have time." He was freed

up to be able to put that thing

into reality and it made

a difference for the company

and for the revenue.

So, let go of.

I don't have time.

Choose what you have time for.

Choose what you're going to

spend your time on

and choose wisely.

Arsenal have £44.7m bid for Thomas Lemar rejected by Monaco - SPORTS NEWS - Duration: 1:40.

Arsenal have £44.7m bid for Thomas Lemar rejected by Monaco

Arsene Wenger is desperate to sign the Frenchman but has been frustrated in his efforts and had two bids turned down already this summer.

The Gunners had a bid of around £40million rejected last week and Monaco have turned down a third bid of around £44. 7m, according to L'Equipe.

Monaco have sold the likes of Bernardo Silva and Tiemoue Bakayoko this summer but vice-president Vadim Vasilyev insisted earlier this week that Lemar would be one of the players that would stay at the club.

'Fabinho and [Thomas] Lemar are essential players, they will stay with us,' said Vasilyev. 'We have kept all of the key players we intended to keep.

Arsenal may be forced into switching their attention to Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez, who is keen on leaving the Foxes. However, the Foxes are keen on keeping the Algerian and want around £50m to let him go.

Wenger maintains that any additions to the squad will be to compliment Alexis Sanchez at the Emirates but speculation persists over his future,.

Suspension: I have been vindicated by APC's NWC - Timi Frank - Duration: 4:30.

Suspension: I have been vindicated by APC's NWC - Timi Frank

- The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) may have shot itself in the foot.

- The party was quick to come to the defence of its national legal adviser, Mr Muiz Banire after he was suspended by the partys executive committee in Mushin, Lagos.

- The issue is however similar to that of the deputy national publicity secretary of the party, Comrade Timi Frank.

The deputy national publicity secretary of the APC, Comrade Timi Frank, has said that the position of the partys NWC which nullified the suspension of Muize Banire by the party's executive committee in Mushin Local government area of Lagos state, has vindicated him.

Chief John Oyegun-led NWC recently issued a statement nullifying the suspension placed on Banire on the ground that only the national body has the constitutional mandate to suspend a national officer. In a statement sent to NAIJ.

com on Sunday, July 30, Comrade Frank said he refused to honour invitation of a kangaroo committee engineered by the South-south executive of the party because they lack the mandate to invite him as a national officer of the APC.

Comrade Frank accused the APCs NWC of causing confusion with its recent decision.

The APC chieftain while describing the partys national chairman as a master of confusion added that, "Chief Oyegun-led NWC knew the position of constitution as regards a national officer but decided to keep mum in my own case because they were the sponsors of the kangaroo suspension against me in the first place.

He added: "But one will wonder why the NWC quickly shown special interest in Muize Banires suspension if they were not out to dance to the music of their pay master".

While restating his earlier position that he was never under any suspension, Comrade Frank said, "the APC national chairman is a man without words of his own but always out to serve the interest of higher bidders.

"Because I was telling them the truth against their wishes, Chief Oyegun through the sycophantic zonal body arranged a kangaroo suspension against me but I thank God today because the same NWC has come out to say that nobody except the national body has power to suspend a national officer in which Im one.

"I therefore use this medium to tell those who think Im under suspension to erase such thought in their minds. I am not under any suspension.

"I must again call on leaders and governors of our party not to keep quiet any longer in any decision taken by Oyegun-led NWC because the current NWC under Chief Oyegun has lost competency, credibility and ready to be bought over by the higher bidders.

About three weeks ago, Comrade Frank blamed Oyegun for the defeat of the APC in the just concluded senatorial re-run election in Osun state.

"Oyegun caused our defeat in the election because of his failure as a leader. Adeleke left the APC for the PDP because of the inconsistency of the party leadership and came back to defeat the party.

"If they knew what they were doing, Adeleke would not have left the APC and we would have been celebrating another victory now.

The APC ticket would have been given to him because of the death of his brother," Comrade Frank told journalists at a press briefing.

Why Prince William and Kate are being urged not to have third baby by children's organisation - Duration: 3:30.

Why Prince William and Kate are being urged not to have third baby by children's organisation – read the open letter

A San-Francisco based childrens organisation, Having Kids, has written an open letter to Prince William and Kate, urging the royal couple not to have another baby.

The company, which promotes smaller families, has posted the letter on their official website, respectfully asking the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to consider forgoing having a third child.

The letter, signed by the companys president Carter Dillard and executive director Anne Green, noted the influence that Prince William and Kate have as public figures, and the power they have to model a sustainable small family.

The letter cited environmental reasons like climate change, economic equality and the distribution of resources.

It continued: Of course, we know that Prince George and Princess Charlotte are certain to have wonderful lives, protected from the deprivations of poverty and the threat of environmental degradation.

They will receive optimal amounts of care and attention, as well as the best possible education. But the same cant be said of every future child..

The letter concluded by explaining the Fair Start family planning model.

It read: Rather than having a third or more children, families consider forgoing another child and taking part of the substantial resources saved to help a different family plan a fair start in life for their child.

The point is simply this: Family planning should be child-centred, and the Fair Start model is a serious move towards ensuring all children get the equal opportunities in life they deserve.

And that they do so in a healthy, safe, and greener environment.. Prince William and Kate, both 35, have not responded to the open letter, which comes shortly after the Duchess commented that they should have another baby.

The doting parents were on a royal tour of Poland and Germany last week when they were gifted a small toy designed to soothe babies and infants.

Kate, who has a son George, four, and daughter Charlotte, two, turned to her husband and laughed, saying: We will just have to have more babies..

Naturally, the open letter has prompted a mixed reaction from royal watchers and members of the public, with some saying the organisation has no right to interfere with the Cambridges affairs.

Others commented that the letter had well-articulated statements and rationales for why families should have fewer children. Having Kids has since responded following the backlash, explaining why they focused on the royal couple.

They said William and Kate can lead by example, given their public stature, and that the impact the wealthiest families have on the environment dwarfs the impact of children born in the developing world.

It concluded: Given exponential growth, large families – wherever they may be – are simply not sustainable..

Conor McGregor appears to have given Paulie Malignaggi a black eye during sparring - Duration: 3:28.

Conor McGregor appears to have given Paulie Malignaggi a black eye during sparring

GETTY Conor McGregor, UFC lightweight champion. McGregor sparred the former WBA welterweight champion earlier this week in preparation for his August 26 bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Malignaggi was brought in by the McGregors team to help the UFC lightweight champion adjust to the attacks of an elite-level boxer.

The sparring session also gave McGregor the opportunity to have his long-awaited knock with The Magic Man, who was a vocal critic of the UFCs poster boy entering the boxing ring.

Malignaggi reflected on his first sparring session with The Notorious on Twitter by saying: Good rounds last night with Conor McGregor. My code is sparring details stay in the gym. Look forward to helping him get ready for 8/26..

The New York native discussed his involvement in McGregors training camp during an interview with ESPN, but it wasnt his response to Brett Okamotos questions that ended up being a major talking point.

Eagled-eyes viewers couldnt help but fix their gaze on Malignaggis left eye, which was black and blue. Malignaggis shiner could be an indication that he underestimated McGregors striking prowess.

Paulie Malignaggi on Conor McGregor fighting Floyd Mayweather There was a lot of trash talking right away. A lot of fighting right away, Malignaggi said of his first sparring session with McGregor.

At the end, you look back on it, it was kind of fun. I dont have many people who can match my trash talk, but Conor definitely can. It was making it a lot of fun..

BRETT OKAMOTO Paulie Malignaggi sports a black eye in an interview with ESPNs Brett Okamoto.

Malignaggi then went on to dismiss the notion of McGregor aggressively hunting Mayweather, insisting the UFCs poster boy has a route to victory mapped out in his head.

To say a mixed martial artist is coming into boxing and wouldnt be awkward is an understatement, he added.

GETTY Conor McGregor fights Floyd Mayweather on August 26. Hes going to have his own style and set of things he does. Hes got a game plan.

Its not what people think. Ill put it like this: He knows what he wants to do and he has a method of how he wants to get there.

The mechanism of how he gets there may look, to the naked eye, hmm, I dont know about this. But theres a method to his madness.
