SCIENCE TIME ON THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION.

WELCOME TO SPACE TO GROUND, I'M DAN HUOT.

A TON OF SCIENCE JUST ARRIVED ON STATION,

AND THE EXPEDITON 50 CREW IS ALREADY GETTING IT DONE.

ONE EXPERIMENT FIRED UP THIS WEEK WAS THE MICROGRAVITY

EXPANDED STEM CELLS STUDY, TAKING PLACE

IN THE MICROGRAVITY SCIENCE GLOVEBOX.

NASA'S PEGGY WHITSON ACTIVATED THE INVESTIGATION

WHICH IS LOOKING TO UTILIZE THE MICROGRAVITY ENVIRONMENT

ON STATION TO ACCELERATE THE EXPANSION OF HUMAN STEM CELLS,

SOMETHING THAT COULD BE USEFUL IN A LOT

OF MEDICAL TREATMENTS ON EARTH.

THE CELLS CULTIVATED ON STATION WILL BE USED IN CLINICAL TRIALS

TO MEASURE THEIR EFFECTIVENESS IN TREATING DISEASE,

AND COULD IMPROVE THERAPIES FOR STROKE PATIENTS,

OR EVEN PROVIDE INSIGHT ON HOW TO HELP PREVENT

AND TREAT A NUMBER OF CANCERS.

ONE OF THE STATION'S MOST IMPORTANT LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEMS

IS GETTING AN UPGRADE.

THERE ARE TWO CARBON DIOXIDE REMOVAL ASSEMBLIES, OR CDRAS,

ABOARD THE STATION THAT ARE RESPONSIBLE

FOR SCRUBBING THE CO2 EXHALED BY ASTRONAUTS

FROM THE STATION'S ATMOSPHERE.

THE ABSORBENT MATERIAL THAT ENABLES THIS PROCESS BREAKS

DOWN OVER TIME WHICH MEANS IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.

THIS WEEK, THE CREW DID A COMPLETE BREAKDOWN OF ONE

OF THE UNITS AND SWAPPED IN NEWER GENERATION COMPONENTS

TO MAKE FUTURE REPLACEMENT OF THIS MATERIAL EASIER.

FOR ANY LONG DURATION SPACEFLIGHT MISSION,

INCLUDING WHEN WE SEND HUMANS ON TO MARS.

ABOUT SIX MONTHS WORTH OF FOOD, WATER AND OTHER CONSUMABLE ITEMS

ON THE STATION, NOT TO MENTION FLYING NEW SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS

2017 TBR FOR MARCH | WHAT OVERLY AMBITIOUS NONSENSE AM I UP TO THIS TIME?! [CC] - Duration: 3:05.

Hey, BookTube, it's Sylwia! These are the

books I'm going to be unwrapping in my

next TBR Unwrapping and this entire row,

and you actually can't even see the end

of it, are books that I'm behind on

reviewing. But today let's talk about

what I'm going to read in March. I have

one book left over from my January

TBR that is American Gods by Neil Gaiman

which I am going to finish within the

next hour, actually. I've taken Artemis:

Wild Goddess of the Hunt by George

O'Connor out from the library. This is

one of my favorite graphic novel series.

I think this is either book seven or

book eight in the series and it's a series that I

strongly, strongly recommend. I will be

finishing this today. I received The

Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis

as a birthday gift from Missy at binge

reader and I'm buddy reading this with

Judith from, her twitter name is I think

bookdr3ams? We are reading this

together and talking about it on Voxer and

i will be finishing this today. Left over

from my February TBR, I'm going to be

reading these books. I have the audio-

book for Daughters of Rome, the sequel

to the Mistress of Rome series by Kate

Quinn. I got this for my birthday last

year from one of my offline best friends.

I will be reading the second book in The

Others series which is Murder of Crows by

and Anne Bishop. I got this from one of my

offline best friends for my birthday

last year. And I'm finally- my heart is

ready for more of this ship. So I have

these to audiobooks waiting for me at my

library. And I got this book for free in

a giveaway that I entered for another

book that came with this one.

I'm not very excited about this but I

will be giving it a try. And I got this

book for free with another set of books

that I wanted where I only paid, like, two

dollars for an entire set of four books,

but it's She Went All the Way by Meg Cabot.

I'm not very excited about this. And

Eragon will be read at some point. I plan

to read it. We'll see. Oh, one more! I think

this is from my February TBR also. Jody

Picoult's The Tenth Circle. And I found

out that there's, like, graphic novel or

comic book parts of it. I'm not very

excited about this book. I recently

hauled The Girl on the Train and I will

be reading it in March. To continue on

with the manga series I'm reading, I will

be reading volumes 9 and 10 of

Fruits Basket, which are in this bind-up.

So this bind-up is number 5 but the

individual volumes are 9 and 10 and they

look like this. And I'll be reading

Sailor Moon vol.7. And I will be reading

some e-books because I got: I think it's

either Leo Meet Aries or

Leo loves Aries. I picked this up on a

whim. It's a m/m romance and I took

it from netgalley. I'm reading it right

now and I also got Juliet Takes a Breath

from netgalley, so I'll be reading that.

And today I got two ebooks from the

Brooklyn Public Library and that's The

Hate U Give which is a book that a lot

of people are talking about right now,

it's a new release, and Ronit and Jamil,

which is also a new release. So those are

the million and one books that I will be

reading this month. Which one are you

most excited to hear me review? So I will

try to prioritize that one. Come talk to

Exhausted from driving, a traveling salesman stopped in this one town, and pulled over

to get an hour or two of sleep.

But the quiet place he chose happened to be one of the streets that the majority of the

towns people used to take their daily run.

The salesman had barely pulled over, and gotten comfortable when a jogger was knocking on

his window, asking, "Excuse me, but do you have the time?"

The man looked at the car clock and answered, "8:15."

The man settled back again, and was just dozing off when there was another knock on the window

and another jogger.

It's been a while...since I did a log.

So I'm finally filming a log.

These days...

We have fanmeetings... we are doing the Japan fanmeeting tour.

Since the fanmeetings are fun, I have been happy day by day.

I'm happy and...

after the fanmeetings are over, I'm really looking forward to what is going to happen next.

Also,

We got a Daesang recently.

Ah, seriously...

Usually when we get an award...

I get so happy...

So I don't cry easily.

Why? Because I'm happy.

But this time we got a Daesang...

After seeing the ARMYs...

I didn't expect it, but I started shedding tears, so I was flustered.

Well, we know that we worked really hard and we know that ARMYs worked really hard,

So I think that's why I cried.

I wasn't embarrassed about crying at all,

And just like what Jin hyung said, I was able to feel something hot.

I was so so happy, and...

I think of this as just the beginning.

Since I think of this as the beginning, I recently...

And personally paid a lot of money...

and bought virtual instruments.

Now, seriously...like my hyungs...I want to try producing, but...

I don't have the motivation to do it because I'm not confident.

But since it's still something I need to do in the future, I will go through it step by step.

Well these days, I think I'm just...living a happy life.

I am happy right now.

That's how I feel.

Right now...after I did my make up and finished the fanmeeting, I'm filming this log.

I only erased my eye makeup, but it feels empty.

So I will now finish the log.

From now on, I will work harder.

This is well...something I always say.

But whenever my log gets released, I don't watch it.

Real-Time Physically Based Rendering: A quick explanation - Duration: 10:42.

Physically based rendering materials are defined by three channels, which is the Albedo, Microsurface

and Metallic channels.

Any other texture types, such as Ambient Occlusion, Normal, Height, Opacity, etc

all function as they usually do with any other kind of shader as long as it sticks close

to the industry standards of visualizing the fed data.

To fully understand these three channels and what they are supposed to represent, we first

need a basic understanding of light and its interaction with surfaces - as physically

based rendering tries to imitate this behaviour though these three channels.

Hence the name; Physically Based Rendering.

As light hits a surface, it can either submerge into it, reflected off of it or penetrate it.

It is these three potential behaviours that decides the surface's appearance.

Submerged light enters the surface and scatters within it before resurfacing.

The resurfaced light is referred to as 'refracted light', or diffuse.

Depending on the atoms of which the surface consists of, - the color of the refracted

light and the depth it may travel within the surface will vary.

The depth of the scattering is important because it has a lot to do with the reflective appearance

of refracted light.

Surfaces can be categorized into two types based on the reflective properties, related

to the absence or presence of metallic atoms.

The first type is dielectric (insulative), which because it contains no metal atoms - the

light will scatter deep and wide though the material before resurfacing.

The implications of this is that the original structure of the light will be lost and unrecognizable

when it finally resurfaces.

In addition, the resurfaced light will emit in different directions because of how it

scatters within the surface.

This means there is little reflective potentiality, and thus it will return a matt color of whichever

color resurfaces.

The second type is metallic (conductive), which is made of metal atoms.

This will drastically reduce the scattering of submerged light because metal atoms reflect

a lot of the light back before given an opportunity to absorbing and scatter them.

This in return means that a lot of the structure of the light that entered the surface is close

to the same when it resurfaces.

This is why metal surfaces are so reflective.

The reflected light simply bounces off the surface before submerging into it.

This is also referred to as specular light.

Take note of the difference between submerged refracted reflection, such as with metal - and

bounced reflection, such as reflective or specular lighting.

Reflected light does not submerge into the surface, and does therefore not share the

color-scheme of the refracted light.

This means the reflected light will always reflect in the color tone of its light source.

This means that if you have a light source which is red, and a surface which is orange -

The reflected light will reflect in red, even though the surface is orange.

The clarity of the reflection depends on the uniformity

of the light after the surface interaction.

The deciding factor of this is the microscopic details on the surface.

While reflected light is not absorbed, it is scattered in new directions upon impact.

The more scattered the light is, the more blurred the reflected light becomes.

So lets have a look at the albedo, microsurface and metallic channels and what role they play

in imitating this behaviour.

The albedo is a RGBa channel where RGB hold

the prime color values in Red, Green and Blue, while the alpha is actually free to contain

just about anything, and isn't necessarily reserved for opacity.

The albedo channel represents the color of refracted light, which again is the light

that resurfaces after it has submerged the surface, scattered, and eventually resurfaced.

It is completely oblivious to any reflective behaviour and is only about the color that

escapes the light absorption process.

The microsurface channel is the scattering factor of the reflected - or specular light,

which again is the light which bounces off the surface on impact.

Common scattering factors are surface layers like dirt, moisture, dust, or physical damage,

which makes the surface uneven.

Again, it's important to note that the microsurface channel has to do with the scattering of reflected

light, and has nothing to do with the scattering of submerged refracted light.

The microsurface is a grayscale channel which controls the scattering factor by the brightness

intensity.

It has two popular ways of being represented, which is as a Roughness channel or a Glossiness

channel.

They are the same thing except that their values are inverted from each other.

The roughness channel implies if the texture is white, the surface is rougher and thus

scatters the reflected light into more directions - making it appear blurred.

The glossiness channel implies if the texture is white, the surface is smooth and thus reflects

the reflected light uniformly and thus appears as a sharp reflection.

The metallic channel has to do with the reflective behaviour of the submerged refracted light

through the presence of metal atoms.

As previously mentioned, metal atoms reflects a lot of the light before it can be scattered

and absorbed, and thus the submerged light will resurface unscattered.

Because of metals reflective properties, the environment will be reflected in the colors

to a much greater degree.

It is therefore important to change the environmental map within your texturing software once in

awhile to see the appearance of the material under different lighting conditions, - as

metallic surfaces will look very different depending on the ambient light of the environment.

The flatter the light, the less contrastingly the material will look.

Not all of the light will be reflected or absorbed however, unless the metal appears

black which means all of the light that wasn't reflected was fully absorbed.

Metal is therefore also colored though refracted light along side of the reflected light.

The method of which we give our metal a color depends on the channel, as the metallic channel

also has two ways of being represented.

The first is the Metalness method, which uses a grayscale image to indicate which portion

of the model is made of metal.

A white color indicates that the surface is metallic, and black means it is dielectric.

This method uses the albedo channel as the refracted light for the metal surface as well.

So whichever color is in the albedo channel will be the color of the metal.

The second method is Specular Albedo, which is a RGB image which indicates both the portion

of the model which is made of metal and also the refracted color.

This means it functions as both the metalness texture and albedo texture combined.

It's important to note that this method requires that whichever portion of the surface

is metallic, must have the same portion of the albedo texture rendered as black, or it

will not appear correctly.

Remember that this is not necessary with the grayscale metalness texture, as it gets its

color from the albedo channel.

Neither of the methods has a visual advantage over the other, - it's just two different

ways of handing over the information to the shader.

The only difference between them for you is how you have to make the textures and eventually

how you package them.

Here are some examples of that:

When using the Specular Albedo method, - there is no need for Albedo Color if the entire

surface is metallic; the refracted color and metalness of the surface is both defined through

the single RGBa texture file.

What's left is the microsurface channel, and since that is a simple grayscale channel,

the texture can be inserted into the alpha channel of the Specular Albedo.

You then have all the PBR-defined material information in a single texture.

This can make it very easy to manage files.

For the metalness method, both the metallic and microsurface channels are grayscale so

they can both be packaged into a single RGBA file.

You can put the metalness into the R-channel, microsurface into the G-channel, and while

you're at it you can put the Ambient Occlusion into the B-channel and any other texture into

the A-channel.

This again can make it very easy to manage files.

I didn't know what was happening back in december

when I mentioned on the livestream that the PO box may not be working

anymore or I may not be able to receive things from the PO box

so now the PO box is, I'm pretty sure it's done

if you sent something to me in the last few weeks, I have hope it will still get to me

so don't worry too much

but this will be the LAST mail time video probably ever :(

It's sad but at the same time I always feel so bad that I can't give back

to everyone who sends me something

I know this sounds INCREDIBLY corny, but just the fact that you guys watch my videos is completely enough for me

and having a PO box was so cool because I'd always kinda wanted one

but I just don't have the opportunity to have one anymore and

I know some of you guys might encourage me to open one but

unfortunately the way the system works in Japan I can't really afford to do it

because you have to pay to receive things

and I think my money would just go WHOO hehe

so YEah I'm gonna open my last load of packages

and I just wanna thank you all, from the bottom of my pineappley heart

I also wanna highlight one thing because uhm obviously when you open stuff on camera
