Monday Night: We are not done with the rain, yet... - Duration: 3:04.

MARGARET: GRAY SKIES OUTSIDE,

AND OFF AND ON RAIN ACROSS THE

AREA.

THAT'S WILL CONTINUE OVERNIGHT

AS WELL.

GENERALLY, WE SEE THAT RAIN

DIMINISH.

NOT SEEING THAT SO MUCH.

HERE IS WHY.

WHAT WE HAVE IS SEVERAL AREAS OF

LOW PRESSURE TO OUR WEST.

THEY'RE MOVING TO THE EAST, AND

WITH NO PRESSURE, GET THAT

COUNTERCLOCKWISE FLOW, SO WE

HAVE ALL THIS MOISTURE MOVING TO

THE NORTH.

YOU CAN SEE ONE OF THE LOWS

HERE, ANOTHER TO THE NORTH, AND

OTHER INTO THE GULF, AND ALL

THAT TROPICAL MOISTURE.

HERE IS A LOOK AT WHAT IS

HAPPENING NOW.

SOME RAIN AND STORMS MOVING ON

SHORE.

FLASH FLOOD WATCH JUST TO OUR

WEST.

SOME OF THE STRONGER STORMS

MOVING INTO TERRA PUNK PARISH,

AND THIS HAS MOVED QUICKLY.

YOU CAN SEE KLONDIKE, 31

MINUTES.

SHOWERS MOVING UP ACROSS

FLETCHER OVER I-10.

I-55, WE HAVE RAIN.

IT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THE CITY

NOW, BUT YOU HAVE RAIN IN

CANADA.

NORTH SHORE NOT TOO BAD, BUT A

GOOD THUNDERSTORM BY DIAMOND

HAND.

THAT IS DRIFTING TO THE EAST

RIGHT OVER I-10.

SOME OF US GOT RAIN, SOME OF US

DID NIGHT -- NOT, BUT WHERE YOU

DID, THERE WERE LOCALLY HEAVY

RAINFALL AMOUNTS, ESPECIALLY

TOWARD THIBODEAU.

THE FORECAST MODEL IS PAINTING A

LOT OF RAIN TONIGHT, ESPECIALLY

TO THE WEST.

THEN IT MOV, RIGHT THERE AT

MIDNIGHT, THE POTENTIAL WITH

LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN WITH STORMS

FIRING UP IN THE MORNING.

JUST SAY WEATHER AWARE TONIGHT

AND INTO TOMORROW MORNING.

THE POTENTIAL SOME OF US COULD

GET AN ADDITIONAL INCH OF RAIN,

AND WE WOULD NOT BE DONE THEN

EITHER.

RAIN CHANCES WILL STAY HIGH

UNTIL THIS COLD FRONT MOVES

THROUGH.

THAT WILL BE LATE TUESDAY INTO

EARLY WEDNESDAY, AND THEN THE

SUN IS GOING TO BE SHINING FOR

PARTS OF WEDNESDAY, ALSO INTO

THURSDAY.

HI TEMPERATURES CLIMBING INTO

THE UPPER 80'S.

THURSDAY, YOU WILL NOTICE A

LITTLE COOLER.

THEY HAVE GOTTEN PLENTY OF RAIN,

BUT HE WAS ABLE TO PICK SOME

BLUEBERRIES.

A HIGH TODAY, 84.

THE AVERAGE, 89.

ABOUT THE AREA, WE WERE

GENERALLY IN THE MID-80'S, BUT

LOOK AT HOW THESE TEMPERATURES

ARE DROPPING.

THAT IS BECAUSE OF THE RAIN.

AS WE GO INTO THE EVENING,

OFF-AND-ON RAIN.

70'S.

IN THE MINI -- IN THE MORNING,

IT 70'S.

HIGH TEMPERATURES TOMORROW, LOW

TO MID 80'S.

HERE IS A LOOK IN THE DAY.

YOU WILL HAVE TH OFF-AND-ON

RAIN.

KEEP THE UMBRELLA HANDY.

Trump Blasts London Terrorist Attacks We Must Stop Being Politically Correct Or It Will Only Get Wor - Duration: 4:10.

Trump Blasts London Terrorist Attacks We Must Stop Being Politically Correct Or It Will

Only Get Worse

by Tyler Durden

After a torrid night, in which at least seven people were killed in a terrorist rampage

by three knife-wielding assailants in London, President Trump took to Twitter to warn terrorism

will only get worse if officials dont get down to the business of security for

our own people and end political correctness.

We must stop being politically correct and get down to the business of security for

our people.

If we don't get smart it will only get worse, he tweeted just after 7am ET on Sunday as

the world reeled from the third deadly terrorist attack in the UK in less than three months.

Trump also mocked London Mayor Sadiq Khan's appeal for calm: "At least 7 dead and 48 wounded

in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is 'no reason to be alarmed!' " Trump

said in a subsequent tweet.

This is our city and we will never be cowed by terrorism, Mayor Khan said during

a statement in which he called those behind the attack barbaric cowards.

In a statement to the BBC, Khan said "Londoners will see an increased police presence today

and over the course of the next few days.

There's no reason to be alarmed.

One of the things the police and all of us need to do is ensure that we're as safe as

we possibly can be," he continued.

Trump also focused on the weapons used in the attack, pointing out the absence of guns

used and the resulting lack of a "gun debate".

Late on Saturday, when details of the terrorist attack first emerged Trump renewed his call

for the courts to approve his executive order banning travel from six Muslim-majority countries

prompting a harsh response from his critics who accused him of using a tragedy for promoting

his political agenda.

"We need to be smart, vigilant and tough.

We need the courts to give us back our rights," Trump tweeted.

"We need the Travel Ban as an extra level of safety!"

Trump last week petitioned the Supreme Court to reconsider the legality of his travel ban.

The DOJ spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores said in a statement the department had "asked the

Supreme Court to hear this important case and [is] confident that President Trump's

executive order is well within his lawful authority to keep the nation safe and protect

our communities from terrorism.

Meanwhile, Theresa May appeared to side with Trump, when she called for the country to

unite after Saturday's attack, saying can not "pretend that things can continue as they

are."

"We cannot and must not pretend that things can continue as they are.

Things need to change," May said in a statement Sunday.

May said the recent attacks in England are bound together "by the single, evil ideology

of Islamist extremism that preaches hatred, sows division and promotes sectarianism."

"Defeating that ideology is one of the great challenges of our time."

May added that the ideology cannot be given the "safe space it needs to breed."

The Prime Minister also said Britain's counter-terrorism strategy must be reviewed due to "what we

are learning about the changing threat."

"Since the emergence of the threat from Islamist-inspired terrorism, our country has made significant

progress in disrupting plots and protecting the public," she said.

"But it is time to say enough is enough.

Everybody needs to go about their lives as they normally would.

Our society should continue to function in accordance with our values.

But when it comes to taking on extremism and terrorism, things need to change."

The country's response to the violence, she said, needs to be to unite.

"We must come together, we must pull together, and united we will take on and defeat our

enemies."

10 EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES WE REALLY LOVE - Are You BRAVE enough To RIDE #9? - Duration: 10:14.

10 Emerging Technologies we can't wait to see more of

#10 Gravity - human propulsion technology

Gravity has invented a human propulsion technology that re-imagines manned flight.

The technology combines body mounted miniaturized jet-engines with a specially designed exo-skeleton

allowing vertical take off and flight.

The jet-engine suit is pioneering an entirely new category in aviation history.

I wonder if they have it in 3XL.

Gravity – Human Propulsion Technology

#9 WingBoard –

Meet the WingBoard: it's like a wakeboard, but instead of slicing through waves behind

a boat, you're carving through the clouds behind a plane.

Whether it's wakeboarding, gliding, skydiving, wing walking, or flying with a wingsuit, adventure

enthusiasts continue to push the envelope.

The WingBoard takes the thrill of these adventure sports to another dimension, combining the

exhilaration of prolonged flight with the rush that comes when you're in control.

And don't worry, if you fall, just get up and do it again.

Wingboard.

#8 Hololens by Microsoft

Air New Zealand has recently revealed it's been working with Dimension Data to use the

mixed reality Hololens as a way of enhancing its cabin crew services.

The airline's project is still at an experimental stage, but it demonstrates an interesting

implementation of the technology.

When looking at a passenger, the HoloLens allows the flight attendant to immediately

get a display of their details, preferred meal, travel plans and even the time elapsed

since their last drink.

Some work is being done on detecting a passenger's emotional state, possibly through facial expressions

or heart rate detection.

As an early demonstration of how the HoloLens could be applied in real-life this is a compelling

case for the device's existence.

#7 OMNI HOVERBOARD

Looks like we're catching up to the future.

The Omni Hoverboard is here.

Well almost here.

It's inventor, Alex Duru holds the Guinness World Record for the farthest hoverboad flight:

905 feet, 2 inches.

The flight lasted 11⁄2 minutes.

Not exactly a full day of Hoverboarding, but we all have to start somewhere.

Duru and his team are now developing a second prototype that's sleeker, more powerful,

and safe enough for an eager public.

He plans for it to be ready for distribution this year.

So keep looking up for the Hoverboard

#6 icaros

The ICAROS setup is wireless, quick and easy.

The system includes the ICAROS device, controller and a VR headset.

Choose from mind-blowing VR experiences such as flying, diving or free falling.

Alone or in multiplayer, in the sky, underwater, on the racetrack or in space.

ICAROS offers unique experiences.

All experiences feature several difficulty levels and duration's optimized for the use

in fitness or entertainment environments.

#5 PAL Robotics

Dubai will soon be patrolled by crime-fighting droids.

These kinda creepy looking droids will come equipped with face-scanning technology able

to scan faces from 20 meters away, and tablets mounted in their chests to take crime reports.

You'll also be able to pay traffic fines.

They won't say whether or not these robo-officers will come with donuts, but time will tell.

These crime-fighting droid will make up one QUARTER of the city's police force by 2030.

PAL robotics.

#4 SR3 – BY Solar Roadways

Solar panels that you can drive, park and walk on.

They melt snow & cut greenhouse gases by 75% ?!!!

Imagine our highways providing enough solar energy to power much of the U.S.

The company was founded in 2006 by Scott and Julie Brusaw,

They envisioned replacing asphalt surfaces with structurally-engineered solar panels

capable of withstanding vehicular traffic.

The proposed system would require a type of glass that doesn't exist yet, but they're

working on that.

In the meantime the cost estimate of $10,000 for a 12×12-foot section, would cost approximately

$56 trillion to replace all the roads in the U.S.

#3 eSight eyewear:

eSight 3 is an engineering breakthrough that allows the legally blind to actually see.

eSight houses a high-speed, high-definition camera that captures everything the user is

looking at.

Special algorithms enhance the video feed and display it on two, OLED screens in front

of the user's eyes.

Full color video images are clearly seen by the user with unprecedented visual clarity

and virtually no lag.

With eSight's patented Bioptic Tilt capability, users can adjust the device to the precise

position that, for them, presents the best view of the video while maximizing side peripheral

vision.

This ensures a user's balance and prevents nausea – common problems with other immersive

technologies.

Take a look at eSight.

#2 Avegant Glyph - Video Headset

A single HDMI input means youcan play directly from any computer or gaming console and any

tablet or smartphone with simple adapters.

How good is the screen?

So good it doesn't need one.

Avegant's Patented Retinal Imaging Technology mimics natural eyesight through LED projection

onto millions of microscopic mirrors.

It's not watching; it's seeing.

Fully adjustable optics compensate for most prescriptions, meaning you can enjoy extended

viewing without the need for glasses.

Streaming video, downloaded content, console gaming, you name it.

No special software needed.

The cost?

About $500.

100,000 Subscribers: We did it! [New Channel, Q&A and...] - Duration: 14:14.

Hi everyone! Mixeli here, and yes, this is a voice reveal!

It's the first time you're hearing my voice on this channel

Even though I already did a voice reveal on my second channel five months ago

talking about my plans for this year.

Last years was the best year of my life: I was able to accomplish a lot of things:

But let's talk about that later!

Today we reach better than that.

But today I'm finally able to say that as a big fan of Pokémon since the beginning of the series

We finaly reached 100K subscribers on this channel.

My dream finally came true, we did it! We really freaking did it mate!

Let's talk a little about my history:

It's been 7 years now since the creation of my channel. For 7 years I've been wanting to reach this milestone.

During that time, my personal life hasn't been that easy.

It was terribly hard for me. Even with all the stuff that I've gone through and the hardships

that my family has gone through, I studied hard in order to be successful.

I've known about youtube since somewhere between 2006 and 2008, I don't really remember.

I did, however, create my channel on the 5th of April 2010.

I don't want to go into detail too much because I'm planing a draw my life for you to better understand my story.

At first I started my channel using french because, as you should know by now, I was born in France.

At that time I created a project called Pokemon Rouge flamme

(Blaze Red in english version), a fan project which is like a remake of Red and Blue made by zero in BW version.

But unfortunatly the majority of the people using this platform speak English and not French.

I loved the community because people were always nice to me and had positive feedback on my project.

I also loved the fact that thanks to them I was able to improve my english

Because at first my language was unknown to them and they didn't really understand my broken english comments.

It's really funny because compared to back then, now, I can see my grammatical errors.

Youtube was so much fun and it's still fun to me to this day!

At that time, I never though that my channel would become succesful one day

and I expected even less to succeed in having one hundred thousand subscribers for two channels!!

This, to me, is kinda scary when you think about it!

... O_o

I didn't think that it was possible!

I just wanted to say that you guys have truly changed my life a lot.

Each and everyone of you!

Youtube has changed my life!

I was able to help my family a lot, and change the lives of many people.

I can't believe that one day I would be able to do that. I'm so surprised right now!

It's also a fact that I wanted to do a lot more original and more entertaining things

things that you couldn't even imagine before!

And each day by doing these, my dream finally came true.

Over these years, I've met a lot of good people and made some good friends, some I'm still talking with lot.

I'm mostly referring to a friend that I've known since 2011, before my second channel was even created.

I'm talk about the best PokeMusician I know : Slhtubit92, also known as PokéMixr92!

(go check him in the description)

This person has helped me a lot, especially when it comes to Pokemon Music.

And when things got really bad, he was always there trying to help me resolve the problem,

even a more personal one I had with someone else, one that just happened recently.

He truly is my definition of best friend,

You're the Best!!!!

I also want to thank three other people that helped me a lot on this channel:

1st: AppleTinivi

2nd: Asia81

3rd: CrystalLink_

Without them, I wouldn't be able to edit the Pokemon games and put my original ideas to good use!

You guys's support was amazing and I kept improving thanks to you!

Finally, I just wanted to remind you all that I am very, very grateful for all the support over the years.

And with this being said, we have ourselves a new goal: 1 Million subscribers.

But in all honestly, I don't think it'll happen anytime soon. I guess in 10 years maybe haha.. We'll see.

Because you guys have changed my life, I decided to do a Q&A where I will answer most of your questions.

I will answer you as much as possible, but unfortunatly there're a few questions that I won't be able to answer.

Now the last thing I can give you information on, is something that you wanted to know about for years:

let's talk about a "Face Reveal"

Let me explain why at first I didn't want to make a face reveal:

1) (credit: Jaiden Animations for that and she's totally right about what she said and I agree with her)

What she said is exactly what I would like to say to you all.

I will not repeat what she said because there are no better words for this than what she said.

If you want the link go to the description and read from 0:16 at 0:47

Normally people wait until they get to 1 million subscribers before doing it,

but for me I know I won't be getting them anytime soon.

However I found something pretty original in regards to this, so please bear with me and wait a little longer.

I'm a ninja and a Ninjas aren't supposed to show their face, they need to stay anonymous.

(It's a joke lol even though Greninja is my mascot)

A face reveal is something I didn't really want to do at first because of what I explain earlier.

But I thought a lot and I decided to do something really original.

Because I did a voice reveal on my 2nd channel by singing Kiseki and by having 100K

I thought to myself "why not make a drawing face reveal on my first channel?"

So, I decided to draw a picture of me and show you what I truly look like but in drawing version.

Are you ready?

Here it is:

This is how I look like in drawing version!

This is all that I could give you for my 100K subscribers special.

If I can reach 1 000 000 subscribers on both my channels by having much more support, then maybe, just maybe I might do a true face reveal!

Now my next video will be a Q&A, so you can ask questions and I will make the new video a few days later!

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart, and as always, please have a great day! ;)

Should We Wipe Out Vampire Bats? | Good Question | SKUNK BEAR - Duration: 8:49.

Bats have a scary reputation even though most of them are actually harmless

But there is one species that causes big problems.

The common vampire bat.

In Latin America, vampire bats are destroying lives and livelihoods

They prey on pigs on calves

on children and sometimes, sick bats carry rabies in their

saliva It's a horrifying disease - once someone exhibits

symptoms it's too late to save them.

Ranchers want the government to exterminate vampire bats.

which raises a question: SHOULD humans completely wipe out this deadly species?

♫ GOOD QUESTION ♫

To try and wrap my mind around this problem I headed down to a major battleground in the

human vs. vampire bat war.

Panama This country is bat paradise

"The entirety of the united states has about 47 species of bats"

"And Panama, which is much smaller, has 120 species of bats"

This is May Dixon She's something of a walking bat encyclopedia

She told me there's a lot of confusion about bats.

"People think that all bats are vampires" And that couldn't be further from the truth.

The vast majority of bats DON'T drink blood and don't actually harm anyone.

To prove it, May insisted I meet some.

"We got one" "What species is this?"

"I'll tell you in a moment!"

"This is a jamaican fruitbat" "You want to feed it?

I can try" Adam "Wow he's thirsty"

You wouldn't want to kill these bats, and not just because they're cute

Bats are the secret heroes of the jungle "See ya later"

You've got fruit eaters like the jamaican fruit bat

that spread seeds and replant the forest Bats with long tongues that drink nectar and

pollinate flowers "Including agave - which is important because

without it we wouldn't have tequila" Bats who use echolocation to catch bugs -

the bugs that bite us and eat our crops

We met lost of amazing and useful bats - but ...

"None of these are vampire bats, no not one" And that's the species I'm really interested

in.

Luckily for me, May works with a guy keeps a vampire bat colony in a big shed

Yep, that's a bucket of cow blood "They eat about a tablespoon of blood a day

which is no that much But that adds up when you've got 36 bats"

"I often think of vampire bats as the super bat."

They're stealthy mammal finding, blood drinking little ninjas

Their noses have these infrared heat sensors so they can detect warm veins beneath the

skin "They have low frequency hearing"

It's like they're specially evolved to hear the breathing of big animals

"They have these canines for cutting away hair and feathers

And their front biting teeth are so sharp - prey don't feel a thing,

And unlike most bats ...

... they can run.

They're great at what they do but as far as we know they don't play any

important role the jungle would be just fine without them

Now, for thousands of years, vampire bats did their thing and weren't much of a problem

There weren't that many of them, and there were enough peccaries, tapirs and capybara

to satisfy their thirst for blood.

Then, everything changed.

In 1493, Columbus brought a new blood source across the sea

Cattle!

Colonists destroyed jungles and replaced them with pastures.

The herds multiplied - and vampire bat populations shot up with them.

And that's when they started causing problems for ranchers.

This is still still going on today This map shows where trees have disappeared

in just the last 15 years - In many of these places ranchers are trying

to make a living on the very edge of vampire bat territory

The town of Pueblo Nuevo is a perfect example ... so decided to pay it a visit

Here, life revolves around softball, fishing, and most importantly - the vampire bat's favorite

food.

Where are the bats?

They're waiting for sundown in the hills just outside of town.

A guide named Austin Garrido agrees to take me into the bat caves

They're this view into an alien world.

There are so many kinds of bats here But the vampire bats shrink away from our

head lamps We have to use infrared light to get a good

look at them

Every night, when darkness falls, the vampires leave their caves to search for

blood.

"They bit the pigs, they bit the calves, they bit the children"

My grandchildren who lived over their for a while

they'd wake up with bites on their feet A cow gives birth to a calf today,

And by tomorrow night it would have two or three bites.

And through the bites it transmits rabies - a very dangerous disease.

Very dangerous!

Rabies costs farmers in Latin America $30 million dollars a year and kill dozens of

people.

So how can we stay here?

We can't raise chickens, cows, pigs - what can we do?

We can get along with the other bats.

But if we can eliminate this species, we will.

They explained the Panamanian government actually does try to poison the vampire bats here and

there They spread a toxic paste on the back of a

bat and when that bat returns to its roost and

the poison spreads through the whole colony But here's the thing - nearby bats just come

in to take their place.

And new research suggests that all this may just increase the spread of rabies.

Now in an ideal world - you'd find a way to just get rid of the rabies virus itself

But that would take a hugely expensive vaccination program - you'd have to get all the people,

cows, pigs, even the bats!

So - as far as the ranchers and the government are concerned

The best thing to do is keep on killing vampire bats.

Try and drive them all to extinction!

Which brings me back to our question.

Back in town, I asked Gerry what we would lose if we did wipe out vampire bats.

When I give talks to the public one of the most common questions I get is how are vampire

bats useful to us And I tell this story about the anti-coagulant

that vampire bats have in their saliva - It's like a drug that keeps the blood of their

prey from clotting it's a better chemical anti-coagulant for

treating stroke than anything weve synthesized But that's not really a honest answer of how

I feel My feeling is that vampire bats are inherently

valuable I seem to remember them being ugly

but now their faces - they just look like people to me.

He says they BEHAVE like people.

When one bat is starving Another one comes to feed it

They wrap each other in these weird hugs - mothers and daughters, brothers and sisters,

and even bats who aren't related to them, but share what scientists call "enduring cooperative

social bonds" in other words

"friends."

It's those friendships that make that poison spread so quickly through a colony - the bats

love to cuddle.

And that makes this question about what to do with bats really difficult.

The way that I think of it is analogous to how we relate to wolves now

Wolves were a problem for farmers and ranchers just like vampire bats

and for long stretches of time people just wanted to eradicate wolves

But now we see wolves as these beautiful charismatic animals we can relate to

I don't think we have that kind of relationship with vampire bats

But if people new all these things I know about vampire bats

You would look at them differently - As beautiful intelligent animals

Why we need a Digital Geneva Convention - Duration: 1:11.

Each year cyberattacks target millions

of private citizens and roughly 74%

of the world's businesses.

By 2020, the rising economic cost of these

attacks is expected to reach

$3 trillion.

Fortunately, Microsoft uses a variety of

encryption methods to secure your data

in the cloud, as well as defending

attacks as they happen.

But increasingly, hackers are highly-skilled, relentless

nation-states

driving tech companies to the front

lines in the battle for cloud security.

It's time for governments to adopt a Digital

Geneva Convention to ensure that

everyone's cloud data is accessible and secure.

Microsoft and others are calling

on governments to do their part by committing to:

Avoid attacking citizens, the private sector and critical infrastructure.

Report vulnerabilities, rather than stockpile, sell of exploit them.

Pledge to aid in the containment and recovery from cyber attacks.

Create a trusted national and global IT infrastructure.

If governments can join Microsoft and others in the tech sector

in committing to these principles,

we can create a trusted "digital Switzerland" -

and leave cyber criminals out in the cold.

We Tried A Vagina Fitness Tracker | Try This Challenge | Refinery29 - Duration: 4:19.

Hey everyone!

I'm Camille and for three days, I'm going to be trying out the Elvie Kegel Tracker.

I feel like I do have a very nice vagina, but you know, it can always get better.

Always room for improvement.

Based on what people have said on the website, Chiara, from London says, "I love using

my Kegel Tracker and I can total feel like it's all working and my muscles get stronger

and stronger every week."

Okay, Chiara.

Serena, from Sydney says, "It's incredible every woman should get one."

Well Serena, I have one and I'm going to try it.

So every needs to come along on this journey with me and check it out and see if it actually

works.

This is the Elvie insert.

It kind of looks like a sperm.

Super cute, right?

And it comes in this little cute case that also stands as a charger.

You plug it up into a USB and insert it into the wall and your Elvie is charging.

This is the Elvie app.

So for those of you who are just tuning in don't know that the app is specifically here to

track your kegel exercises.

They provide you with a lot of games and a lot of levels and activities.

Alright, so I'm going to hit the targets by quickly squeezing and then relaxing.

And kegel exercises are basically just to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles and to

make your vagina overall healthier down there.

When you get older, it helps to keep everything in.

And to be quite honest, I love it.

I love it.

It's super interactive, super great.

You know for someone like me, whose attention span is like this big, having the game as a complimentary

you know there's the games and I have to hit the target and I'm like "go go go!"

I feel like I'm in an arcade with my vagina and it's so, it's so-

Hey everyone!

So it's my second day using the Elvie.

I love it still.

It's still great.

I don't think I mentioned it before in the last video, but I am, there are levels.

There's levels to this shit.

I am on beginner because I sort of skipped the training because I was too cool for that.

Because like "what?

Training?"

So, I stepped up to beginning and I'm killing it!

So based on my last two workouts, you could see that I have basically made it to "Perfect!"

I've made great progress.

Honestly, I'm pleased with this chart because it shows my vagina is a winner.

But I already knew that, but just so everyone out there knows.

Hey everyone, so I'm wearing my Elvie while walking down the street right now.

It feels good.

I feel like I'm getting a real workout in.

Hey everyone, so this is my third and final day using my Elvie Kegel Tracker.

Oh!

I feel like I'm having a baby.

And after these three days, I think I'm going to have to go with: I love it.

I absolutely love it.

I definitely feel as though my vagina has been completely rejuvenated.

Not only are my walls tighter, my pelvic floor muscles are stronger, and I just feel completely

healthy.

Like I have a whole new vagina and that was the goal and I am so happy and so proud and

so pleased with this product.

Because usually you would think that you know things have this long, huge list of things it's

supposed to do and they don't do any of them.

But this one did everything and I'm super happy and super pleased.

And I made it to intermediate, which is one of my goals so *snaps* for me.

So it's been three days and at the end of the three days, I have to say I absolutely

love my Elvie Kegel Tracker.

I think it's amazing.

I definitely saw results quickly.

Definitely was a little concerned about sticking something foreign in my vagina and

having it in there for five minutes or more.

So there are games and one of them is hit the targets, so I felt like I was in an arcade

with my vagina.

So I was literally hitting targets like ch-ch-ch.

Like as soon as there was a target, I had to squeeze.

I improved very quickly.

I made it to the intermediate level.

The great thing about this is because it's so small, and it's so comfortable, you can

use it in just about any place.

For instance, I used it at work, in the office, in the Refinery 29 office, on the 25th floor.

I was doing my kegel exercises.

Oh yeah, yeah, I'll send you that email as soon as I'm finished doing my kegels.

This has been so much fun.

I absolutely love my Elvie Kegel Tracker.

I'll see you guys next time.

How We Got Here: Crash Course Sociology #12 - Duration: 11:01.

Until about 12,000 years ago, the largest group of people ever assembled, the most humans ever gathered in one place, was probably a crowd of about 100, tops.

And there were somewhere between one and ten million people on the entire planet back then.

Today, we have football stadiums that can fit a hundred people a thousand times over.

The city of Shanghai has a population of over 24 million.

And there are almost 7.5 billion people on Earth!

How the heck did we get from there to here?

That might sound like a history question, and it is, partly.

But it's also a sociology question.

Because, if we want to understand how we got from small groups huddled around a fire to cities of millions,

we need to understand what society is and how societies change as their populations grow.

And we need to understand how different kinds of societies shape the people who live in them.

Pretty much any question you can ask about society, you can answer with the help of sociology.

[Theme Music]

As long as there have been humans, there have been societies.

We're social animals, and even when there were mere handfuls of us, we grouped together, forming the first societies.

Now, society can mean lots of different things: A few families who spend all their time hunting deer and picking mushrooms can be a society.

But so were the 70 million people of the Roman Empire.

And so are the 1.2 billion people living in India today.

So we need a definition that's going to include all of these things.

And conveniently enough, we have one: a society is simply a group of people who share a culture and a territory.

That's a good definition, but it doesn't really tell us much about the different kinds of societies, or how we get from one kind to another.

For that, we turn to the work of American sociologist Gerhard Lenski.

Lenski focused on technology as the main source of societal change, through a process he called sociocultural evolution:

the changes that occur as a society gains new technology.

Lenski then broke up human history into five different types of societies,

defined by the technology they used and the social organizations that the technology helped create and sustain.

If you look back to early human history, say about 30-40 thousand years ago, you find a lot of what Lenski called hunting and gathering societies.

In these societies, people made use of extremely basic tools to help them hunt animals and gather wild plants for food.

Now, if you think about how much you eat in a day, and imagine trying to gather up that much food every day, it should be pretty clear that this is no easy task.

So food was the major concern in these societies, and they still exist today.

People in hunting and gathering societies spend almost all their time trying to make sure they have enough food.

And they're nomadic, following migrating animals and wild harvests, so they don't build permanent settlements.

So, by their very nature, these societies tend to be small; hunting and gathering can't support a group of more than 25 to 40 people effectively.

And in order for hunting and gathering to support even that, everyone has to work to find food,

and everyone has to share their resources in order to ensure the survival of the group.

This means that these societies have very low inequality.

For the vast majority of human history, every single person lived in hunting and gathering societies,

up until about 12,000 years ago, when the domestication of plants and animals led to new kinds of society: horticultural and pastoral societies.

Pastoral societies are based around the domestication of animals and are also nomadic, moving from place to place to keep their herds fed.

Horticultural societies, on the other hand are based on cultivating plants.

So, with horticultural societies we see the first human settlements, as groups began to stay put, to remain close to reliable sources of food.

And we also see, for the first time, the accumulation of material surplus – that is, more resources than are needed to feed the population.

This is incredibly important because, having a surplus allows a society to grow.

And it also means that not everyone needs to work on getting food and simply surviving.

This, in turn, leads to the first real instances of specialization in society, with separate political, religious, and military roles coming about.

We also get real social inequality for the first time.

And this same dynamic accelerates as we move into agrarian society, as permanent settlements emerge based around agricultural production.

Starting about 5,000 years ago – with better farming techniques like the animal-drawn plow

– we get more food production and an even bigger material surplus.

From this came larger populations and larger settlements, with even more specialization and even more inequality.

Remember serfs and nobles?

Feudalism was an agrarian society.

And you know what else happens when societies reach this point?

The family starts to become less important.

In other kinds of societies, things like education are handled almost entirely by the family.

But as societies grow and become more complex, those functions start to be taken up by larger social institutions, like the church or schools.

And now we finally start approaching present day America, with industrial societies.

These societies get their start with the industrial revolution around 1750, as production began to shift from human and animal power to machine power.

This had a massive impact on food production, with new technologies like the tractor and

the combine producing huge surpluses that could support even larger populations with even more specialization.

But the industrial revolution also marked a fundamental change in the organization of society itself.

Societies far larger than anything seen before meant a greater need to assert centralized control over everything –

from the production of goods, to transportation, to agricultural production – in order to keep things running smoothly.

For the first time, human society moved away from a subsistence-based economy.

As mass production became possible, a capital-based economy emerged.

As the surplus grew and specialization increased, so did inequality, with factory workers spending 12 hour days on one end,

and incredibly wealthy "captains of industry" making enormous profits on the other.

It's no coincidence that, soon after the industrial revolution, Marxism and conflict theory emerged.

And the decreasing importance of the family continued as well, as more institutions stepped into traditional family roles.

Industrial societies were the first to have universal public education, for instance.

And, for the first time, the majority of health care and caregiving were institutionalized, done outside the home in hospitals.

The need to keep production organized also meant an increasingly urbanized population.

Because, it's easier to control the resources you need if they're centralized.

So people moved from the countryside to urban centers, where the industrial jobs were.

And all of this keeps going in Lenski's scheme of things, with specialization and technological innovation continuing,

until the development of the computer, a technology that gave rise to the postindustrial society.

In postindustrial societies, we still see specialization, increased urbanization, and technological advances.

But the defining change is that postindustrial societies shift away from an economy based on raw materials and manufacturing,

to an economy based based on information, services, and technology.

This is how we got here.

If you look at the most dynamic sectors of the US economy, you see massive wealth being created in tech, finance, and service industries, but a steady decline in manufacturing.

That said, it's not as though Americans don't buy stuff.

Apps can do a lot of things, but they can't (yet) conjure a car out of the ether for you.

So this is a good chance to point out that these different types of society aren't isolated from each other.

You can't have a postindustrial society without having industrial societies elsewhere to supply it with goods.

This points again to increasing inequality – not just within one society, but across societies.

So, in Lenski's understanding, societal change is driven by technological change.

But, it's worth pointing out that not all of these changes are beneficial.

Pollution, global warming, and large-scale warfare are new problems that technology has brought us.

And, technology doesn't solve fundamental societal problems.

It has the potential to reorganize society, but technology can't tell us how to have peaceful or just societies.

In fact, just looking at Lenski's classifications, you can see that advancing technology also advances inequality in society, making it increasingly unequal.

So, we can't limit our discussion of society to just looking at technology.

But that's okay, because the sociocultural changes that Lenski talks about can also be understood using the work of some old friends: Marx, Weber, and Durkheim.

Marx, for example, might seem pretty similar to Lenski at first:

If you think back to his theory of historical materialism, he certainly seems to put a strong focus on technology and the economy as the driving forces of history.

Remember? He saw that changes in the forces of production are important in pushing the change from one mode of production to another.

But for Marx, you only get large-scale social change through class struggle, which culminates in a revolution,

overthrowing the old relations of production and replacing them with an entirely new set.

So in Marx's view, the transition between Lenski's stages requires technological change, but it also requires revolution.

And we can also use Marx's understanding of conflict to compare Lenski's stages with each other.

In hunting and gathering societies, for example, conflict and inequality are leveled by the lack of surplus and the need to share resources.

But that's not the case in postindustrial society.

Max Weber, for his part, seems further away from Lenski than Marx, focusing not on technology or revolution, but on ideas.

The major transition that Weber talked about was the shift from traditional to modern society,

which he argued was really a matter of rationalization.

Now, it's not that Weber didn't appreciate the importance of technology.

But he argued that the transition from agrarian to industrial society, for instance, began with a shift in ideas –

like new techniques in accounting and ways of approaching social organization.

And it was these ideas, combined with advances in technology, that produced the overall change.

So in this view, both ideas and technology were crucial for the emergence of modern capitalism.

And Durkheim, finally, took a different tack from either Marx or Weber.

He approached the transitions that Lenski talked about from the perspective of a society's underlying social structure.

Specifically, Durkheim saw the history of society as a long term change in solidarity, a change in what held societies together.

He argued that hunting and gathering societies were held together by similarity, what he called mechanical solidarity.

Durkheim argued that everyone in these societies had the same skills and lived in basically the same way.

But that changed as society developed and specialization increased.

With more specialization, people became more differentiated, taking on different jobs, learning different skills, and living in different ways.

But, Durkheim argued, people also became more tightly integrated, because they became more interdependent.

Factory workers needed farmers to make food so that they could eat, and farmers needed factory workers to make their tools and other goods.

Durkheim called this interdependence organic solidarity.

And so Lenski's sociocultural evolution is, for Durkheim, the story of a long transition from mechanical to organic solidarity.

Ultimately, all of these ways of looking at society and its changes, from the point of view of technology, or conflict and revolution,

or ideas, or underlying social structure, are important for understanding what society is and how it works.

Each one of these perspectives sees things that the others miss, and each one is important for the discipline of sociology.

Today we learned about the society, what it is and how it changes.

We talked about Gerhard Lenski's classification of societies into five types, and the technological changes that turn one into another.

We returned to Marx and Weber, and talked about how they understood societal change.

And we also talked about Durkheim's understanding of society and how social solidarity can be mechanical or organic.

Elizabeth Warren: The Only Thing We've Got Is Your Voices | AM Joy | MSNBC - Duration: 9:28.

>>> WELCOME BACK. ON THURSDAY I ATTENDED JOYOUS

PERSISTENCE CONFERENCE FOR WOMEN ACTIVISTS IN SAN FRANCISCO WHERE

I HAD A CHANCE TO DO A 40-MINUTE Q&A WITH SENATOR ELIZABETH

WARREN. IT WAS A WIDE RANGING

CONVERSATION THAT COVERED MANY TOPICS BUT NONE MORE IMPORTANT

THAN SENATE'S INACTION ON HOLDING DONALD TRUMP ACCOUNTABLE

FOR HIS TIES TO RUSSIA. TAKE A LOOK.

>> THE RUSSIA INFILTRATION INTO THE ELECTION GETS MORE ALARMING

EVERY DAY. IT IS REALLY SHOCKING THE EXTENT

TO WHICH THEY WERE ABLE TO HAVE CONTACT WITH PEOPLE NOW IN

GOVERNMENT OR WOULD HAVE BEEN HAD THEY NOT BEEN OUT.

IS THERE BEHIND THE SCENES A LEVEL OF ALARM EQUAL TO THE

LEVEL OF OUTRAGE OUTSIDE THE SENATE CHAMBER?

[ APPLAUSE ] >> NO.

NO. NO.

SO LOOK, I'M WITH YOU, THERE IS NOT THE LEVEL OF ALARM, THERE IS

NOT THE LEVEL OF PUSHBACK. THERE'S NOT THE LEVEL OF WHAT'S

GOING ON HERE. IT'S NOT HAPPENING.

THIS REALLY HAS ME SCARED. THINK ABOUT -- LET'S TALK ABOUT

IT FOR A S.E.C. WHY NOT?

HANG ON. SO JUST THINK ABOUT JUST A FEW

OF THE THINGS WE KNOW, RIGHT? OUR INTELLIGENCE AGENCIES ACROSS

THE BOARD HAVE MADE IT CLEAR THAT THE RUSSIANS HACKED INTO

AMERICAN SYSTEMS IN ORDER TO INFLUENCE THE OUTCOME OF THE

2016 ELECTION. THIS IS NOT DEBATABLE.

NO IS NOT ALTERNATIVE FACTS. THIS IS KNOWN.

THERE IS LOTS OF EVIDENCE ON THIS.

THEY DON'T WANT TO MAKE THE EVIDENCE PUBLIC BUT THEY WILL

MAKE IT PUBLIC TO EVERY REPRESENTATIVE AND EVERY SENATOR

AND A PRESIDENT, OR THAT PRESIDENT INTERESTED IN SEEING

IT, RIGHT, SO THE INFORMATION THERE.

THIS PART WE KNOW FOR SURE. WE KNOW THAT HIGH OFFICIALS IN

THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION HAVE HAD TO RESIGN BECAUSE OF THEIR

DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE RUSSIANS.

WE ALSO KNOW OUT OF THE MOUTH OF DONALD TRUMP HIMSELF THAT HE

SAID HE WANTED TO -- HE WAS FIRING FBI DIRECTOR COMEY, AT

LEAST IN PART, BECAUSE HE WANTED TO SHUT DOWN THAT INVESTIGATION

INTO THE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN RUSSIA, THE UNITED STATES -- THE

TRUMP CAMPAIGN AND TRUMP HIMSELF.

NOW, IF I HAD DESCRIBED THOSE THREE FACTS TO YOU A YEAR AGO,

DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO USE THE NAME OF THE PRESIDENT, ANY PRESIDENT,

LIKE PRESIDENT CLINTON OR SOME OTHER PRESIDENT, RIGHT, YOU

WOULD HAVE SAID THIS WOULD NOT BE PARTISAN.

THERE WOULD BE DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS ALL OVER THIS.

THEY WOULD BE ALL OVER THIS. AND INSTEAD WE HAVE A LOT OF

REPUBLICANS WHO HAVE JUST NOT BEEN WILLING TO STEP UP TO THE

PLATE. IN FACT, I WANT YOU TO WATCH

WHAT THE REPUBLICANS ARE DOING. WE'VE GOT TO TALK ABOUT

REPUBLICAN MAJORITY IN THE HOUSE AND SENATE ARE DOING AS WELL.

RIGHT NOW, THEY HAVE GOT A PRESIDENT WHO WILL SIGN OFF ON

PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING THEY CAN GET ORGANIZED AND GET THROUGH.

THAT MEANS THEY ARE OUT THERE DOING TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS ON

STEROIDS. THEY ARE OUT THERE ROLLING BACK

THE REGULATIONS AND TRYING TO DO EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO HELP THAT

THIN SLICE AT THE TOP, AND THEY ARE DOING IT.

SO JUST LOOK AT THE FIRST WEEKS AFTER DONALD TRUMP WAS SWORN IN

AND WHAT HAPPENS. SO XIONG PASSES A BILL AND TRUMP

SIGNS OFF TO MAKE IT HE'SIOR FOR FEDERAL CONTRACTORS TO RECEIVE

EMPLOYEES' WAGES. STAYS RIGHT UNDER THE RADAR

SCREEN. MAKES IT EASIER FOR COMPANIES

THAT KILL OR MAIM THEIR EMPLOYEES, RIGHT, TO BE ABLE TO

HIDE THAT FACT. ONE AFTER ANOTHER, THEY KEEP

GOES THROUGH ROLLING BACK REGULATIONS.

REGULTIONS ON THE SILICA DUST PEOPLE BREATHE.

EVERY TIME HOW CAN WE HELP OUT CORPORATE AMERICA AT THE COST OF

WORKING AMERICA AND THEY ARE PUSHING THOSE THINGS THROUGH.

>> WHEN YOU'RE IN THE CHAMBER, WHAT ARE THEY SAYING TO JUSTIFY

IT. >> THEY DON'T.

THIS IS THE PART THAT FRUSTRATES ME IN SOME WAYS.

WELL, I CAN'T PICK THE PART THAT FRUSTRATES ME THE MOST.

I WILL USE THAT PHRASE LIKE 94 TIMES IN THE NEXT 10 MINUTES.

THIS ONE IS FRUSTRATING. WE STAND UP -- I DID THIS, STOOD

UP ON EVERY ONE OF THESE BILLS. I STAND UP AND TALK ABOUT THEM,

FIGHT ABOUT THEM. AND OFTEN IT'S IN AN EMPTY

CHAMBER. IF THIS IS A REPUBLICAN, THERE'S

ALWAYS AT LEAST ONE REPUBLICAN BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO SIT IN THE

CHAIR WHEN WE'RE IN SESSION. I'LL LOOK AT THE REPUBLICAN, AND

THE REPUBLICAN IS LIKE -- NOBODY ENGAGES.

I DO ASK THIS QUESTION. I ASKED, OH, WHAT WAS THE VERY

FIRST THING WE PASSED HERE. THE VERY FIRST ONE WAS WE HAD

WORKED ON A REGULATION FOR YEARS.

GOING BACK TO 2010, BIPARTISAN, INTRODUCED BY A REPUBLICAN BACK

THEN THAT SAID BASICALLY THE SHORT VERSION WAS THE AMERICAN

CORPORATIONS THAT DO BUSINESS IN THE EXTRACTION INDUSTRY, OIL AND

DIAMONDS, HAVE TO REVEAL THE PAYMENTS THEY MAKE TO FOREIGN

GOVERNMENTS. EVERYBODY IN HERE GET WHAT

THAT'S REALLY ABOUT? RIGHT, REX TILLERSON, I'VE HEARD

THAT NAME, SAID AT THE TIME, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE.

CAN'T DO THAT. IF YOU DO, THAT WE WON'T BE ABLE

TO DO BUSINESS IN RUSSIA. THINK ABOUT THAT.

AND SO WE FINALLY GET THIS REGULATION THROUGH THAT SAYS --

DOESN'T SAY THEY CAN'T DO IT. ALL IT SAYS IS YOU'VE GOT TO BE

PUBLIC ABOUT IT. YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO TELL,

WHICH FRANKLY MEANS THE LOCALS WILL KNOW ABOUT IT, AND THE REST

OF THE WORLD COMMUNITY WILL KNOW ABOUT IT.

WHAT HAPPENED? ONE OF THE FIRST BILLS WE DO

JUST ROLLS THAT BACK SO THEY CAN CONTINUE TO KEEP THOSE PAYMENTS

SECRET. I STILL REMEMBER GOING TO THE

FLOOR TO TALK ABOUT WHAT THE BILL DID AND TO SAY, REALLY, IS

THIS WHO WE'VE BECOME AS A COUNTRY?

CAN JUST ONE REPUBLICAN COME DOWN HERE AND GIVE ME A

JUSTIFICATION WHY WE SHOULD PERMIT AMERICAN CORPORATIONS TO

GO EXTRACT FROM THESE COMPANIES AND TO BE ABLE TO MAKE PAYMENTS

THEY WANT TO KEEP SECRET. JUST SAY IT WHAT IT IS THAT'S

DOING ON. THE ANSWER IS TOTAL SILENCE.

THAT'S BEEN TRUE ON EVERY ONE OF THESE REGULATIONS.

THIS HAS BEEN TRUE WITH THIS LATEST JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT.

THIS IS TRUE OVER AND OVER. IT IS WE DON'T HAVE TO ENGAGE

WITH YOU ANYMORE. WE DON'T HAVE TO HAVE A DEBATE

ABOUT THIS. WE DON'T HAVE TO TALK ABOUT HOW

THIS WILL HAPPEN. WE HAVE GOT THE VOTES, THE

REPUBLICANS HAVE SAID. REPUBLICANS ARE JUST DOING TO

ROLL THIS STUFF THROUGH. THIS IS WHY I COME BACK TO THE

IMPORTANCE OF THE DAY AFTER THE INAUGURATION, THE IMPORTANCE OF

THE SCIENCE MARCH. THE IMPORTANCE OF THE FACT WE

TOOK ON THE TO THE AIRPORTS WHEN DONALD TRUMP PUT IN PLACE A

MUSLIM BAN. IN BOSTON AT LEAST WE DID OUR

RALLY THE NEXT WEEK. THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS IS TO SAY

WE DON'T HAVE THE NUMBERS. WE DON'T HAVE THE NUMBERS IN THE

UNITED STATES SENATE. WE DON'T HAVE NUMBERS IN HOUSE

OF REPRESENTATIVES. WE HAVE A LOT THAT CAN HAPPEN

BETWEEN NOW AND NOVEMBER '18. I WANT EVERYBODY JAZZED AND

READY TO GO AND VOTE IN 2018 BUT WE'VE GOT TO FIGHT THESE FIGHTS

NOW. THE ONLY THING WE'VE GOT, THE

ONLY THING WE'VE GOT IS YOUR VOICES TO HELP BACK US UP ON

THIS. THAT'S ALL WE'VE GOT.
