Mena Massoud: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Mena Massoud, a relatively new but upcoming actor, has been cast as Aladdinin the live-action remake of the Disney classic.

Disney was originally having trouble casting the lead roles in Aladdin, but the studio has now also announced that British actress Naomi Scott was cast as Princess Jasmine, and Will Smith will play the Genie. Guy Ritchie will direct.

The casting decisions were announced July 15 at the D23 Expo, reported Daily Variety. Already, the casting of Scott is drawing some criticism online between she is of mixed Indian and white heritage. Here's what you need to know:.

Massoud Was Born in Egypt But Raised in Canada. According to The New York Daily News, Massoud is a Canadian-bred actor. He was born in Egypt, Daily News reported.

On Twitter, Massoud says he is from Toronto, Canada and defines himself as "actor. Tell me a story and I'll tell you one." He's on Instagram, where he frequently posts philosophical comments. He's sometimes seen in glasses.

Aladdin is based on the well-known Arabic folk tale about a young man who receives three wishes from a genie. Daily Variety reports that Aladdin was 1992's highest-grossing film. Social media users had urged the studio to choose an Arabic actor.

Massoud Appears in the Jack Ryan Series. Massoud doesn't have a lot of credits to his name on IMDB, which lists "Jack Ryan (2017), Open Heart (2015) and Saving Hope (2012).

According to EOnline, Jack Ryan is a series about the iconic Tom Clancy character. Massoud was cast "as Tarek Kassar in the new series, which features John Krasinski as Tom Clancy's famed Jack Ryan," reported EOnline.

According to IMDB, Massoud is in six episodes of the show. In June, Deadline announced that Massoud would appear in Strange but True, directed by Rowan Athale.

"He joins Amy Ryan, Greg Kinnear, Nick Robinson, Margaret Qualley and Connor Jessup in the film about a young woman who suddenly finds herself pregnant five years after the death of her boyfriend," Deadline reported.

Disney Originally Pursued Better Known Actors for the Aladdin Role & Massoud's Shirtless Pictures Are Being Praised.

At first Disney wanted a household name in the role of Aladdin. Daily News reports that Dev Patel, of the movie Lion, and Star Wars actor Riz Ahmed were names that emerged earlier on.

Other lesser-known actors whose names surfaced as possible contenders included Dutch actor Achraf Koutet and American actor George Kosturos.

Disney auditioned almost 2,000 people in a global casting call to no avail, so filming was pushed back a month to August, reported The Daily News.

However, there's already a buzz over Massoud's casting. Some of it focuses on his shirtless photos on Instagram. He also posts about fitness and eating healthy on social media. Massoud wrote that he has been intermittently fasting and drastically cutting fat.

Judging from reaction to Massoud's photos and his casting, people will be hearing a lot more about the Canadian actor in the future. The Casting of Naomi Scott Is Causing Some Controversy Online.

It's the casting of Scott as Jasmine that has caused the most controversy online. Her mother is Indian and her father is English. Scott is best known for playing "Pink Ranger" in The Power Rangers.

Some people weren't happy about the casting decision. Critics said that Jasmine should be played by a Middle Eastern actress.

Others defended Scott online. Not everyone was happy, though. One Twitter user wrote, "naomi scott? really? so many beautiful arab girls out there and you choose a girl named NAOMI???".

Massoud Says He's Grateful & Excited to Play Aladdin. Playing Aladdin is a big breakthrough for Massoud, and the actor expressed his excitement on Twitter, saying he was grateful and honored to play the character.

On Instagram, Massoud sometimes posts sayings about love.

He wrote in one recent post, "It was in that moment, as he looked into her eyes, that he saw a soul so beautfully captivating that he could not but help remember the vastness of the galaxies above.

The stars that shined as bright as her two illuminating eyes. Use it to drive your passion. Go out and get it. #passion #drive #focus #poetry.".

Seungjae ran away from home!? What's going on?[The Return of Superman / 2017.07.16] - Duration: 14:42.

Chocolate, please.

You can't start the day with chocolate.

Dad, may I have some crackers?

Dad, may I have some crackers?

(Jiyong pretends not to hear him.)

No, crackers aren't allowed.

(Then I'll just steal it.)

These aren't crackers.

Eat a spoonful of breakfast first.

Just one cracker, please.

After you eat, okay?

(They clash over junk food all day.)

Seungjae, I have something to say.

Take a seat.

(What is the matter, Dad?)

Seungjae, actually,

you used to have an older brother.

(He seems flustered.)

- No, I didn't. / - You didn't know, right?

- No. / - You had a brother.

But he ate chocolate every day

that he turned into a fly.

Show me

how he turned into a fly.

A brother who turned into a fly?

What is going on here?

He became a fly, right?

(Looking serious)

He became a fly, right?

Isn't this you?

Who else is here?

- A fly. / - That's right.

This is what your brother became.

(Say hello to your brother.)

(Hello there, little brother.)

Do you want to become a fly, too?

Recently, I saw on social media

a child who refused to take a bath.

She kept grumbling.

So they told her that she'll become a mushroom.

They put pictures of mushrooms into an album,

and coerced her to take a bath.

Seungjae is also afraid of flies.

So I took the opportunity to try disciplining him.

- What is this? / - A fly.

- It's a fly, right? / - Yes.

Do you want to keep eating chocolate and transform?

(Is it working?)

You don't, right?

But I only eat one piece.

How many did you eat today?

- Two. / - See?

It's just two.

That's how your older brother became a fly.

- That's him? / - Yes.

Do you want to become like him, too?

Will that be okay?

- No, it won't. / - Right?

- It's two p.m., correct? / - Yes.

For six hours until eight p.m.,

let's not eat chocolate, okay?

I will set an alarm.

So be patient for six hours, okay?

- Do you understand? / - Yes.

See? Two minutes have already passed.

You can do it. You can wait eight hours.

(His eyes are fixed on the clock.)

If you keep staring, time will pass slower.

(In that case...)

(How will Seungjae choose to pass the time?)

If you keep smashing the insects...

(He catches imaginary insects.)

(He catches them one by one.)

(Chocolate keeps piling up.)

(Gosh. I want some chocolate.)

(Chucking away)

What is it?

(If chocolate is not allowed,)

(then I can just eat ice cream.)

No!

That's not allowed.

I told you. You can't just open the fridge.

(He discovers a chocolate wrapper.)

Who ate this?

(Licking)

(He might end up eating the wrapper.)

Seungjae, are you licking the wrapper?

Yes.

(Staring vacantly)

(Time, why are you passing so slowly?)

(Seungjae suddenly remembers something.)

Creep, creep.

(Tip-toeing)

(He moves like a drunken master.)

(He approaches a cameraman.)

Uncle, give me some snacks.

- What? / - I want snacks.

- Snacks. / - I don't have any.

You can't do that, Seungjae.

Do you have snacks?

You can't.

Ask your dad.

If you get permission, then I'll give you some.

(He whines over their answer.)

(His head is filled with thoughts of snacks.)

Come here, Seungjae. I'll make something tasty.

(Something tasty?)

- Do you like fritters? Yes or no? / - I do.

Lotus root fritters are really good.

- Lotus root fritters? / - Yes.

It puts French fries to shame.

While Jiyong prepares a healthy snack,

Seungjae finds a snack.

(Seungjae attempts to eat it secretly.)

(Startled)

What was that?

(A snake-like object jumps out of the chips.)

(He tried to sneak some chips and met a snake instead.)

(You've been caught red-handed.)

These are potato chips?

What is this? It's a snake.

If you try to be sneaky, this is what happens.

(Feeling embarrassed)

(I can't stand this.)

(He is protesting his snack ban alone.)

(Screaming)

(The withdrawal symptoms are about to continue.)

This is Jiyong's strategy to wean him off chocolate.

Will Seungjae be content?

Give it a try.

(Unsure reaction)

Isn't it tasty?

(Grumbling)

Isn't it very good? You can eat it all.

Eat it all.

- It's salty. / - It's salty?

- I didn't add salt. / - I want some water.

(I prefer sweets.)

Wait here, I'm going to the restroom.

(Seungjae suddenly bolts for the door.)

(He wears his shoes.)

(He returns determined.)

(He stashes something into his pocket.)

(He free-handedly fetches his dad's bag.)

(Glancing about)

Is he really going outside?

(Is he leaving?)

Where are you going, Seungjae? Oh, no.

(I'll take my leave.)

(The cameraman is flustered.)

- Jiyong, Seungjae left. / - Just now?

(Seungjae has run away from home.)

(Red alert)

(Being a dad is an extreme job once again.)

(He scrambles around town in his slippers.)

(He couldn't go far after all.)

He's dragging my bag around.

(He finds Seungjae under the staff's watch.)

One, two, three, four.

(This cutie is off and about on his own.)

I'm going to buy a snack.

(He makes his way to the convenience store.)

(This is paradise>)

(He finds himself facing snacks galore.)

(I choose you today, my jelly snack.)

(He attempts to pay.)

(Oh my gosh!)

Do you have real money?

This is real money.

This is play money.

Earlier, he stashed away

a toy credit card and play money.

- Is this a credit card? / - Yes.

It's a credit card.

(Goodness, my son.)

(Did you want snacks that badly?)

- Hey, Seungjae. / - Hello.

- Hello. / - Look at this.

Didn't you make a promise with me?

(You've been caught red-handed.)

What is that?

(He appeals to his dad by being adorable.)

- Jelly. / - Give it to me.

You.

(However, the attempt fails.)

Come outside.

- Come out. / - I don't want to.

(Feeling cross)

You promised me, Seungjae.

(I went through so much trouble to get here.)

- You promised me. / - I'll just eat

and become a fly.

(I'll just eat snacks and become a fly.)

(Flustered)

- Really? / - Yes.

- I'll become a fly. / - Then what?

What about Mom and Dad?

I'll become a fly.

(This is how much I want my snacks.)

I didn't bring my wallet. We can't use that either.

- But I have money. / - This isn't real money.

- I need to eat it. / - No, you don't.

- I want it. / - You can't.

- I want it. / - No.

I'm angry.

I'm angry, too. Let go of that already.

Let go.

Come here.

Have a good day. Sorry.

- No. / - What do you mean "no"?

Didn't you make a promise with me?

I hate you, Dad.

(Seungjae just feels sad.)

(They return home together.)

Sit down.

Seungjae, how could you leave the house alone?

(He sits him down and disciplines him.)

It's dangerous outside, but you went out alone.

What if a car hits you?

Then what would happen?

I made sure to walk on one side.

The issue is that you went out without me.

I'm sorry.

Promise me you won't do that again.

I won't do it again.

Promise me.

(Now he won't go out alone.)

Will you keep the promises you make?

- I will. / - You will, right?

- Is it hard to hold off on snacks? / - Yes.

But you must, Seungjae.

(His father wants to teach him patience.)

There are bigger things to be patient for.

Let's try this once.

What is this?

- It's chocolate. / - It's chocolate, right?

You shouldn't like this.

- This is... / - I like it.

Sit back and stay still.

(He places it on a plate.)

I'll leave this in front of you.

- Can you wait five minutes? / - Yes.

- Just five minutes. / - Five minutes.

- Just five minutes. / - Okay.

If you wait for five minutes,

- you can eat two. / - Okay.

But if you just eat it,

- you'll only get one. / - Okay.

- Do you understand? / - Yes.

He needs to learn patience for delayed gratification.

I wanted to teach Seungjae how to be patient.

- Wait five minutes, okay? / - Okay.

- I'm going to wait. / - You are?

All right. Begin.

(Will he be able to wait?)

If you wait five minutes, then you will get two.

(Jiyong leaves.)

(It's just you and me, chocolate.)

(To eat, or not to eat)

(He stares at the plate.)

(His lips begin to protrude.)

(His gaze begins to wander.)

(His face slowly turns back.)

WSI Mack Granite + Rogers Trailer by Cranes Etc TV - Duration: 8:42.

In this review we're looking at a re-release of a Sword Model. It is by WSI

Models but there is the Sword logo on the box and in all other regards the

packaging is typical for a WSI model. The model is a Rogers 4-axle flip axle

low boy and a Mack Granite tractor, or is it a Mack Gran-ite tractor. Is it granite

or is it gran-ite? Well I don't know it, or is it I don't know 'ite'?

Remember if you

want to support the Cranes Etc team you can do so over on our Patreon page and

the link is in the video description

The Mack comes with delicate metal mirrors

and it's nice that there are spares included in the packaging, and to insert

them they just go into holes in the bodywork. For the rear axles there's a

choice of having nothing on them, or a full wheel arch, and the wheel arches

press into holes in the chassis although they can be slightly loose-fitting.

What if you don't want full wheel arches? There's another choice which is just mud

flaps and four of those are provided in the box, but we'll go for the full

coverage so let's add all of the wheel arches and the only thing it needs is a

bit of care and adjustment to get them all lined up and looking good.

If you're running the tractor on its own you can tidy things up by hooking the

coiled lines into a rack but they do spring out so be prepared to punch your

own head in frustration as they spring out, and there's one other thing to add

and that's a cover over some clips and we'll see those later.

On to the Rogers lowboy and we can clip the gooseneck into the trailer deck and

that's an easy enough and robust enough connection and then we can hook up the

lowboy to the Mack, and the fifth wheel has a nice spring-loaded clip to keep

the connection tight. There's a lot of detail and we can plug in

connections from the deck into the gooseneck and although it's a bit fiddly

the wires are not springy so the connections stay in place. If you want to

go for the full realistic look you can also plug the coiled lines into the

gooseneck

The Mack chassis is nicely detailed and the front tyres are

slightly fatter than the rear ones. The body shape looks good and there are some

nice details such as the Mack mascot on the front of the hood. There are other

high-quality details such as the exhaust stacks and the chains on the rack behind

the cab. So the overall look of the Mack is characterized by high detail. At first

glance the Rogers trailer seems simple enough underneath, but when you get

closer it to is highly detailed just look at all those hoses on the rear

axles. Moving on to the gooseneck there are numerous very detailed graphics and

that high standard continues on towards the back. But there's detail, and then

there's high detail. Take a look at these tiny tie-down loops along the deck edge.

They are individual parts that are movable.

When Cranes Etc visited China at the end of 2016 this model was in production.

Here we see the springy airlines being fitted to a part go onto the Mack

tractor, and here we see an ocean of Mack's on the production line. As we have

seen these are very detailed models so they all get studied closely during

production. They are made up of a large number of components and each of these

has to be installed by a hand and it's painstaking work. Not only is their

detail to add, but all of the moving parts have to be checked and here are

some Macks on the test track and again you can see they get a good look at and

a bit of a polish if they need it. One thing we've seen already with the model

is that there are various parts that come in small bags and here we see the

bagging up process for the wheel arches. They've been added to a model to see

that they fit and then they go into a bag that is kept with that same model. There's

a similar assembly process for the Rogers trailers, and here there are stacks

of them waiting to be packaged up. Again there are parts such as the deck edge

extensions and somebody's got to put them together in nicely packed bags. Here

we're now into the final packaging and the trailers are getting another look,

and once they pass that inspection they get put into the plastic former that is

sitting in the expanded polystyrene tray. Then the lid can be added and the

factory sealing applied. Now remember at the start of the review there was a

Sword logo on the WSI Box. Well somebody has to stick those logos on and here is

the exact box used in the model review. Actually it's not. I made that bit up.

Out on the Cranes Etc superhighway the Mack rolls along nicely and if you're on

a bumpy road it's always nice to have sprung suspension, and the Mack's got it.

Let's check out the steering and see if it can drive us around the bend and the

steering achieves a moderate angle and it's also notched, but it does give the

chance of an interesting pose. Whilst we're still on the chassis we can remove

that cover that we put on earlier and if we lift the second axle and rotate a

couple of clips then the axle can be raised up out of service to save tyre

wear, and the height of lift is just enough to

enable the axle to clear the ground so the wheels don't move when the Mack is

driven along. Another very nice feature on the model

is the opening doors and a special plastic pointer is provided and you need

that because the fit of the doors is so good. The doors open to a reasonable

angle and at least you see the inside which is nice and detailed.

When you're finished the door can be smoothly shut. Well we mentioned bumpy

roads earlier and there is another small feature and that is the seats which can

be bounced up and down and of course if you need to get to the engine

you can open up the hood and underneath that you can see that the engine is made

up of a number of different components.

The Rogers trailer is also a nicely featured model. It has suspension on the rear

axles but the interesting part is how you can raise some of them out of

service. Axle 3 can be raised up and clipped out of service just like the axle

on the Mack, and the lift height is very good, but if you remove a pin from axle 4

then it becomes a flip axle and you can

flip the axle right over and now the trailer is basically a two axle trailer,

so there's no need to wear the tyres out in the display case. The deck is fairly

narrow but you can widen it out by folding out the little brackets, and it can

be entertaining watching somebody getting frustrated as they try to get

them all out evenly. But once it's achieved there is a long replica timber that

can be put down on those brackets although it's not quite an easy snug fit.

Another nice little feature is the fold down loading ramps so the trailer can be

posed being loaded.

This truck was first released by Sword Models in 2009 and it's good to see it

re-released by WSI models. It's a high quality model with very nice detailing

and some very nice features. It's a great model to pose carrying a load and it's

easy to rate it as very good.
