ANTONIO CONTES Chelsea side hope to continue their impressive pre-season campaign when they meet Inter Milan in Singapore.

Merritt's Store and Grill | NC Weekend | UNC-TV - Duration: 5:31.- July is the peak of tomato season in North Carolina
so where better get your BLT fix
than a reconstructed gas station outside of Chapel Hill
that's been packing in people for years.
Bob Garner recently paid a visit to
Merritt's Store and Grill in tonight's House Special.
- [Bob] For over 60 years,
Merritt's was a local filling station
with a philosopher's bench.
A gathering spot bringing together town and university
with country folks.
Bobby Britt on the left and wife Robin
took over in the early 90s,
gradually turning the place into
a breakfast and lunch destination.
- Food wise, it is about simplicity
and going back to your roots
and sort of conjuring up
flavors of your childhood.
And also keeping things local.
I think...
You know my parents have been doing that
for the past 23 years without knowing that
that's the thing to do, but it just sort of
made sense to them.
And so that's what they started with.
So we really go after, you know, every week finding
the best tomato for the week.
Locally sourced bread,
working on locally sourced meats
and just keeping it simple
and keeping the quality consistent.
- This is the
turkey,
bacon,
guacamole
sandwich on a nice marbled rye.
Look at that.
That is utterly fantastic and you know what,
there's something that makes it even better.
This is a little known item sort of invented
by the Carolina Lacrosse team.
It really isn't on the menu.
It's the spicy green sauce.
It's a green tomatillo sauce.
Perfect for this kind of sandwich.
I'm not gonna lie to you, that has a little kick to it.
It isn't for the faint of heart,
but it isn't too far over the top.
The green tomatillo spicy sauce.
Mean you definitely have a theme going on here
and that's lots of tomatoes, lots of bacon.
This is the pimento cheese version of the BLT.
Now this is a nice three seed bread
which really shows off that beautiful pimento cheese.
It's a wonderful advantage.
And that pimento cheese actually has
a little bit of bite to it but not too much.
That is wonderful pimento cheese.
Chicken salad made fresh every single day.
This is served on your choice of bread in sandwich form
or you can get it as a side.
That isn't flavored like
most chicken salad you'll taste.
Not quite sure what they did with that
but it really brings out the rich flavor of the chicken.
It isn't all mayonnaise-y.
Oh my, that's good.
This friends is the granddaddy of the most popular
of all the Merritt's sandwiches.
That is
the triple
BLT.
If you get a Merritt's T-shirt,
they had one that says,
"Sourdough,
"bacon, bacon, bacon,
"lettuce, tomato, sourdough."
All the layers of the sandwich right there on the T-shirt.
I have it right here in my hands.
I'm a happy, happy fella.
You know, they probably didn't plan it that way
but that is definitely the sandwich
that made Merritt's famous.
You can't beat it.
It's simple.
It's absolutely incredible.
There are interesting drink choices including coffee
and the banana pudding is the iconic dessert of choice.
Robin Britt died recently after a battle with cancer
but for 10 years before her death,
she became widely known for building relationships
and a welcoming spirit at Merritt's.
- This was her mission field to just pour out love
on the people that walked through the threshold
and just to bless 'em as much as possible
through you know, simple food, simple conversation
and kind of pat on the back.
And so for her, it's really a gathering place
and a meeting place and using that as a tool
just to, for her it was about sharing God's love
with anyone and everyone that she can interact with.
- [Bob] My bet is, that atmosphere
at Merritt's won't change.
For North Carolina Weekend, I'm Bob Garner.
- Merritt's Store and Grill is at
1009 South Columbia Street in Chapel Hill.
And they're open early for breakfast
and stay open until 4pm everyday.
If you'd like to place a take-out order,
give them a call at 919-942-4897
or go online to merritsstoreandgrill.com.

Shane Parmely: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | TENTEN TV - Duration: 10:39.Shane Parmely: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know
Videos posted to Facebook by a San Diego teacher showing her refusing to answer questions about her citizenship when stopped by agents at a Border Patrol checkpoint in New Mexico, several miles from the border, have gone viral.
Shane Parmely, a 43-year-old middle school teacher with the San Diego Unified School District, and her children were stopped at the checkpoint while driving on Friday, July 21. She recorded her interactions with the Border Patrol agents and posted them to Facebook.
Parmely and her children were eventually allowed to leave, after more than an hour, but she never answered whether she was in fact a citizen.
A Supreme Court ruling found that Border Patrol agents are allowed to have checkpoints within 100 miles of the border and to ask questions about citizenship without warrants.
The agents are allowed to detain a person at the checkpoint for only the time necessary for the person's citizenship to be determined.
"Enforcing racist laws perpetuates institutional racism," Parmely wrote on Facebook. "I'm sick of helping perpetuate racist laws just because I'm not inconvenienced by them.". Here's what you need to know:.
Parmely Says in the Video That She Has 'Teacher Friends Who Are Sick of Their Kids Being Discriminated Against'.
Shane Parmely posted a series of videos, which you can watch above, of her interactions on July 21 with Border Patrol agents at a checkpoint in New Mexico, several miles away from the U.S.-Mexico border.
Parmely said the checkpoint was on Interstate 10 west, past El Paso before Demming, New Mexico.
The San Diego teacher wrote on Facebook on the first video, "Basically, make sure you have a full tank of gas to keep your air conditioner running, some water and some snacks.
I also recommend a pillow cuz this was a great place to take a nap. And they do have bathrooms in the cells where they hold people when they pull them out of their cars.".
Parmely can be seen in the video being stopped at the checkpoint and asked by an agent if she and her children are citizens. She asks the agent if they are crossing a border, and he says no.
She then asks why she is being questioned about her citizenship and refuses to answer. The agent then says she is being detained for an immigration inspection.
"You are required to answer an immigration question," the agent tells her. "You are not required to answer any other questions.". Parmely responds, "So if I just come through and say, 'Yes, I'm a citizen,' I can just go ahead".
The agent said that if the agent is justified by the answer, he or she can allow the person to continue.
"So if I have an accent, and I'm brown, can I just say, 'Yes,' and go ahead or do I have to prove it?" she asked. "I have a bunch of teacher friends who are sick of their kids being discriminated against.".
In another part of the encounter she recorded, Parmely's son asks to go to the bathroom. "The supervisor said my son couldn't go to the bathroom unless I told them whether or not we are citizens," Parmely wrote on Facebook.
"She pointed to a bathroom past the checkpoint and told us we couldn't use it without answering.". Her son was later escorted to a bathroom by another agent.
Parmely is eventually allowed to leave after more than an hour. In the comment on the final part of the video, she criticized the border agent's "nationalist propaganda," as he allowed her to leave.
"Seriously though, this guy interrupted my nap," she wrote on Facebook.
"And what's up with this dude's straight up nationalist propaganda? The philosophy governing our southern border (cuz there ain't none of this shit along the northern border or eastern or western) can be reduced to: Fascism > Terrorism.
As if these are the only two choices.". She Says They Saw People in 2 Other Cars Detained & 'Only Saw Brown People Get Asked to Show Papers'.
Parmely told KGTV she filmed the encounter because she wanted to bring attention to what she believes is discrimination and profiling at inland immigration checkpoints.
"My entire life, everybody just got waved through. There was no stopping," Parmely told the news station. "We would have no civil rights if people didn't question authority or challenge the status quo.".
Parmely's friend and fellow teacher, Gretel Rodriguez, told the news station she wouldn't dare protest like Parmely did.
"Hopefully, she's starting someone else to say, 'hey, (this) needs to stop," Rodriguez said. "If everyone's being asked and everyone is being interrogated I might accept it, but even then, we probably realize it's not right.".
Parmely told KGTV, "If it would inconvenience too many white people then the system would change, and that's really the only time anything changes is when too many white people get inconvenienced, and it's not worth enforcing the racist policy anymore.
The Border Patrol Says the Checkpoints Are a 'Critical Tool for the Enforcement of Our Nation's Immigration Laws'.
The Border Patrol is authorized to set up inland checkpoints to verify citizenship based on a 1976 Supreme Court ruling in United States v. Martinez-Fuerte.
"The Border Patrol's routine stopping of a vehicle at a permanent checkpoint located on a major highway away from the Mexican border for brief questioning of the vehicle's occupants is consistent with the Fourth Amendment, and the stops and questioning may be made at reasonably located checkpoints in the absence of any individualized suspicion that the particular vehicle contains illegal aliens," the ruling said.
In a statement to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Border Patrol spokesman Mark Endicott said:. Border Patrol checkpoints are a critical tool for the enforcement of our nation's immigration laws.
At a Border Patrol checkpoint, an agent may question a vehicle's occupants about their citizenship, place of birth, and request document proof of immigration status, how legal status was obtained and make quick observations of what is in plain view in the interior of the vehicle.
During the course of the immigration inspection, if an occupant refuses to answer an agent's questions, the agent may detain the driver for a reasonable amount of time until he or she can make a determination regarding the occupant's immigration status.
Videos like Parmely's, showing people protesting against the Border Patrol checkpoints and refusing to answer questions, have been posted on YouTube for several years. You can watch a compilation of other encounters below:.
According to the ACLU, Border Patrol agents can stop vehicles at inland checkpoints to "ask a few, limited questions to verify citizenship of the vehicles' occupants and visualy inspect the exterior of a vehicle.
The ACLU says in a flyer, "Agents may send any vehicle to a secondary inspection area for the same purpose: brief questioning and visual inspection.
Agents should not ask questions unrelated to verifying citizenship, nor can they hold you for an extended time without case.".
According to the ACLU, "Even though you always have the right to remain silent, if you don't answer questions to establish your citizenship, officials may detain you longer in order to verify your immigration status.
" The civil rights organization also emphasizes that you should "never flee a checkpoint!".
She Is an English Learner Support Teacher & Recently Spoke Out About Budget Cuts That Would Hurt Her Students.
Shane Parmely is a teacher at Bell Middle School in the Hillcrest neighborhood of San Diego. She teaches English, art and theater, according to the school's website.
Parmely said on her Linkedin profile that she has worked for the San Diego Unified School District since 2001. She has worked for eight years at Bell as an ELST teacher, after five years as an English teacher at Sierra High School.

Seavisions Charters | NC Weekend | UNC-TV - Duration: 4:34.- Not far from the wreck of Black Beard's
Queen Ann's revenge lies the charming
coastal town of Beaufort.
Here is where you will find some of the most
beautiful barrier islands
North Carolina's coast has to offer
and a custom guided charter with Captain Monty
of Seavisions Charters.
This tour is a wonderful way to get outside
and experience the natural beauty of our crystal coast.
- What I really, really wanted to do
was to show people around, take 'em on tours
specifically of the Cape Lookout National Seashore
Rachel Carson Reserve.
We have so much beauty on these islands over here.
That's what I really wanted to do.
The National Park Service had a moratorium on their permits
which means that you couldn't get a permit
to operate commercially on the national park.
They weren't allowing anymore.
Then the moratorium was lifted
and I was literally on their doorstep the next day.
Today, we're going to wonder out.
We're gonna go see if we can find some ponies
first thing this morning. - Yay.
- Then we'll tour the Rachel Carson Reserve.
We'll leave there, depending on what the wind does.
It's supposed to actually lay out a little bit
as the day goes on.
To effect people's lives and to see them
remember this for years.
No matter what job you do,
you cannot put monetary value on that.
[upbeat music]
Families come down here.
They get away from all the commercialization.
They leave their phones at home.
They leave their video games unplugged
and they come out and they experience
what this world has to offer.
Especially in this environment around here.
Not only do you have water, but you have land
and you have all types of different creatures,
whether they be water born creatures
or air born creatures or the horses.
- [Woman] Oh, they're playing.
Oh my goodness, they're so cute.
- The wild horses on these islands it's...
Incredible to see them in their habitat
just surviving and living off the land.
Having the kids go out and have fun in the waves,
so great to see them touching into their wild side
and their adventurous side a little bit.
And as much as I love it, I'm trying to be
the protective mom and keep them safe.
Look at me.
We've ran into a little snag.
There was a little plant called the prickly pear
and my son, 11 years old, stepped on it
and Captain Monty came to the rescue
and he pulled the little spikes right out for him
He didn't even shed a tear. - I think we got it all out
of there, buddy.
- Like I've stopped looking at what was around me
to actually listen to what he had to say.
I mean, going all the way back to
from Carrot Island to Cat Island to...
I never knew what then the heritage behind
like the history behind the draw bridge.
- The last time the drawbridge
got stuck open was prom night.
Supposedly, if you look back at the charts
in the early days, we see this island referred to
as Cart Island, c, a, r, t, Cart Island.
The Cart-ographers, they came in a little bit later
that drew the newer maps could not understand
our local people.
So we literally believe that they didn't understand
what they were saying and they named it Carrot Island now.
If you'd have come to Beaufort back in the days,
this is what we would have looked like everywhere.
Working waterfronts over the entire Front Street
waterfront was there to support the fishing industry.
This is what is called dredge spoils.
The Harker's Island was originally settled
by the Mormon faith.
The jellyfish, when they have tentacles,
what stings you is called a nematocysts.
Interestingly enough, Sea Oaks are not indigenous
to the beach either.
So he took the seeds from the Gaillardia
and spread them all over the outer banks
to memorialize his wife.
So the legend says.
I can talk about all this stuff
because I've been here most of my life.
And was fortunate enough to sit on the docks
with some of the old timers around here
and listen to their stories and soak it in like a sponge
when I was young.
- You cannot take away what a local can give
back to the people that come to visit.
If you get to know someone and have the opportunity
to be on a tour with someone like this gentlemen,
you'd wanna come back.
- Seavision Charters are located on the historic
Beaufort waterfront and their tours
run daily through September.
To reserve your unique tour experience
with Captain Monty, go online to seavisions.net
or find them on Facebook.

The Queen of Bollywood Veggies in Singapore | Coconuts TV - Duration: 9:22.I think I realized that I am god.
I can create, I can destroy or I can nurture.
This is a sign of god.
And if you read Hinduism, there are three aspects to god:
the creator, the destroyer, and the nurturer.
So when people have children, they create the child. If they do not nurture the child, they destroy the child.
And I think we must bring this consciousness back into the human mind.
That you are a creator, you are a destroyer as well but if youalso put in the element of the nurturer,
I think the world will be a great place.
I came from a family where my father is very, very rich. He was one of the biggest single-land owners in Singapore.
He was Indian, he had six Chinese women, all of 'em he never married
Six Chinese spouses?
Not spouses, six Chinese what do you call, common law Partners.
So already I come from a background that is very non-conformist.
We're not the old-fashioned like, you have to follow a certain race or culture or religion or whatever.
And you said something about drones and donkeys?
So what happened is subsequently when Singapore had its own government, and as you know we have what we call a "benevolent dictator."
After a "benevolent dictator" what does it mean?
It means you insist on very strict rules which are good, some of which are good.
But then they come to a point where they implemented rules and regulations where you cannot have a diverse opinion.
You cannot say something different.
A bunch of do-gooders were "locked up" under the Internal Security Act.
It was that kind of Draconian laws that made everybody frightened, and nobody dared to open their mouths to say anything.
So you end up having a nation of drones and donkeys.
Shifting a bit, but on the subject of what you were discussing, the philosohy of this place.
It's obviously a very unique place in Singapore, there's a lot of sayings on the wall.
What is the philosophy of this place?
As I said my father is very wealthy.
When my husband retired fromrunning the biggest chain of supermarkets in Singapore, we wanted to retire on a big piece of land.
Because when you're a landowner from a child, you want to live on land.
Rich people can live anywhere. The difference is the colour of the person who's serving you.
But in Singapore, I'm a first class citizen.
If I don't like something, I pick up the phone and I call even the Prime Minister's office and tell him what I don't like.
What can he do? Arrest me, put me in jail? Isn't it?
But now, the gap between the rich and the poor has become that great again.
I think we have the highest disparity of income in the world. And that's very dangerous.
Because we live in a very small place and everybody is like in a cage, in a…HDB …it will implode!
If they don't watch out, and that is my greatest worry.
So when I found this land I thought I will build paradise again and there's a lot of people who come here, they love coming here.
And then I extended not just Bollywood Veggies but to the Kranji countryside.
I developed a countryside for my country, and it's called the soul of the city.
Whate vegetables do you grow here?
This garden is like paradise where I grew up as a child.
We have a variety, we grow everything.
But the main concentration is bananas, because bananas is easy to grow
and Chinese do not grow bananas because they believe there's a devil in the flower.
Because I'm only half-Chinese, I'm not frightened. I'm half-Indian there's the warrior blood.
And so we grow bananas because it's so easy to grow; once you grow it, you need a dynamite to kill it.
So you don't really have to have work, y'know?
Then we grow tapioca, cause that's also easy to grow, and whilst it's growing you can eat the leaves,
And we grow Sweet potato, we grow sugarance.
Those are the basic things crops we grow.
So we also grow things like here, the Neem tree, this is the Noni tree which is a medicinal tree.
So we have medicinal section, a garden section and a herb section.
So I grow things like turmeric, I grow lemongrass, I grow dill.
I grow all the herbs that people don't grow. The chinese farmers don't grow.
Some say that in order to transition into a intelectual information economy,
it doesn't have the skills because people haven't been taught to think freely.
Do you think Singapores going to take that step, things are gonna change and people will be able to be more creative and think more freely?
Really? Is Singapore very wealthy? I hope you all will find out how many Singaporeans earn less than $2000 a month.
I think many of them earn less than $2000 a month.
It's a perceived notion that people are well off, I think a lot of people are struggling, and that is the biggest problem.
There's a lot of people…not just even people who are challenged mentally or physically, but many people have got very low education levels.
Because you must remember, many years ago Mr Lee Kuan Yew never wanted to educate Singaporeans, go and read the history of Singapore.
Singapore was never a swamp as far as I am concerned.
Go and find out how many Singaporeans earn less than $2000.
Go and find out when Primary School was made mandatory;
No that long ago, because they're seeped into this religion and racial harmony and doing the right thing and all that, that's holding the country down.
Not that long ago, because they're seeped into this religion and racial harmony and doing the right thing and all that.
That's holding the country down.
And it's because of the old fashioned, stupid philosophy of the leader which is still being carried down.
And I think they should cut that out and listen to more intelligent people.
And people who dare to speak up instead of the pimps and the prostitutes who're running this country.
What do you think of the soul of Singapore and how has Singapore changed since you were growing up here?
I think there's a total lack of soul in Singapore, and I think it has gone further downhill with the policies that the government has
in ensuring that they always keep the mix that there's 75% Chinese,15% Malay, 25% Ma-20% Malay.
Why does it- why should they do that? Do you do this in America? You think the American government dares to do that?
And yet, 50 years of independence we are still doing it. They are worried a ghetto will form.
You mean only poor people will form ghettos? Don't rich people form ghettos?
So I'm very worried with the policies that they still have of like putting you in that box, and unless they completely change their mindsets.
Look, I'm half-Indian, half-Chinese. When I was 12 years old, in my identity card, they asked me for Race. And I said, I'm Singaporean.
And the guy said, there's no such thing as a Singaporean. You're Indian.
So on my identity card it says Indian.
This is in Singapore, right? And they talk about racial harmony and language harmony.
They are joking, and nobody dares to tell them that because they will put you in jail.
But I'm 67 years old. They can put me in jail now and make me a martyr for all I care.

Stone Mountain State Park | NC Weekend | UNC-TV - Duration: 3:56.- Picture looking up 600 feet to the top
of a natural granite dome.
The spectacular view is just one of the many
at Stone Mountain State Park.
Now add horseback trails, great fishing and amazing hikes
and you can see why this is one of our state's
most popular parks.
- A lot of people like to come to Stone Mountain.
One of the reasons is because it's one of the
largest state parks in North Carolina.
We have over 14,000 acres within the park.
- [Derek] Another reason is the park's
impressive granite dome.
But there are many other reasons
people like to come here as well.
- [Edward] We have a variety of recreational
opportunities here at Stone Mountain State Park.
Camping, backpacking, lot of nice hiking trails.
We have a large camp ground
here at Stone Mountain that's very popular.
We have sites for tents, we have sites for groups
and we also have some nice RV sites.
There are 21 miles of hiking trails within the park.
They're range in difficulty from fairly easy
just to walk out a small waterfall,
to very difficult to go over the top of the mountain
round by the base.
[bright music]
And then to view one of our largest waterfalls
in the park, which is about 200 feet high.
- [Derek] That would be Stone Mountain Falls,
a strenuous hike down and back.
- [Edward] The other trails in the park
most of 'em are small loops.
Get you on top of other granite domes within the park
can rock out so that you get good views
of the Blue Ridge escarpment looking back towards
the Appalachian Mountains and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Our main trail...
Is about four and a half miles long
and it goes from the base of the mountain,
around to the side and over the top.
It rises over 600 feet from the base.
The granite dome itself offers some great views.
- [Derek] Stone Mountain is one of North Carolina's
popular climbing destinations,
with over 70 routes to ascend.
- [Edward] Climbing is done by self-registration here.
You fill out a permit at the base of the mountain.
There's a display and you tell us which routes
you're taking and when you expect to be back.
It's mainly a spring and fall destination
because the dome is south facing.
It gets pretty hot during the summer.
So you don't see a lot of climbers in the summer
but you see them in the fall and the spring.
- [Derek] The stocked streams make this
a favorite park for anglers too.
- There's over 17 miles
of trout streams in the park.
Lot of opportunities to fish some of the smaller creeks
and some of the larger creeks here in the park.
The east part of the Warren River
flows through the park.
It's one of the stock streams and it's very popular
with the trout fishermen.
- [Derek] At the base of the mountain,
is the 1855 Hutchinson Homestead,
one of the park's historic sites.
And Garden Creek Baptist Church, established in 1897,
is also located in the park.
- [Edward] And services are still held on Sunday.
- [Derek] Stone Mountain State Park
has something to suit almost any outdoor enthusiast.
From those seeking a peaceful commune with nature
to those wanting to embrace it more vigorously.
This is Derek Long for North Carolina weekend.
[bright music]
- Stone Mountain State Park is located at
3042 Frank Parkway in Roaring Gap.
