Today Google's US homepage is celebrating Fred Toyosaburo Korematsu, civil rights activist
and survivor of the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II.
January 30th, 2017 would have been his 98th birthday and is officially recognized as Fred
Korematsu Day in California, Hawaii, Virginia and Florida.
A son of Japanese immigrant parents, Korematsu was born and raised in Oakland, California.
After the U.S. entered WWII, he tried to enlist in the U.S. National Guard and Coast Guard,
but was turned away due to his ethnicity.
He was 22 years old and working as a foreman in his hometown when Executive Order 9066
was signed in 1942 by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
The order sent more than 115,000 people of Japanese descent living in the United States
to incarceration.
Rather than voluntarily relocate to an internment camp, Korematsu went into hiding.
He was arrested in 1942 and despite the help of organizations like ACLU, his conviction
was upheld in the landmark Supreme Court case of Korematsu v. United States.
Consequently, he and his family were sent to the the Central Utah War Relocation Center
at Topaz, Utah until the end of WWII in 1945.
It wasn't until 1976 that President Gerald Ford formally ended Executive Order 9066 and
apologized for the internment, stating "We now know what we should have known then — not
only was that evacuation wrong but Japanese-Americans were and are loyal Americans."
Fred Korematsu's conviction was overturned in 1983 after evidence came to light that
disputed the necessity of the internment.
Five years later President Ronald Reagan signed the The Civil Liberties Act of 1988 citing
"racial prejudice, wartime hysteria and a lack of political leadership" as the central
motivation for Japanese internment.
In 1998, President Bill Clinton awarded Korematsu with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the
country's most distinguished civilian award.
Fred Korematsu can be remembered fighting for civil rights and against prejudice throughout
his life, famously saying:
"If you have the feeling that something is wrong, don't be afraid to speak up."
The doodle by artist Sophie Diao–herself a child of Asian immigrants–features a patriotic
portrait of Korematsu wearing his Presidential Medal of Freedom, a scene of the internment
camps to his back, surrounded by cherry blossoms, flowers that have come to be symbols of peace
and friendship between the US and Japan.
Today's Doodle pays homage to Fred Korematsu's 98th Birthday.

Editing images, headers and footers in the mobile version of Google Docs for Android and iOS - Duration: 2:42.
Google has added new features
into their own mobile application
Google Docs for Android and iOS operating systems
If previously you could only insert
image into a document
and change its size
from now you have
additional possibilities
to change appearence
for any inserted photos
you may setup border style like
straight, dashed or dotted
as well as its thickness and color
moreover inserted into
the text of the document photos
you can now not only
move but also rotate
to any angle
In this case
if an image have active
"text wrap" mode
even when it was is rotated at an angle
is not a multiple of 90 degrees
then takes place the correct location of the text
It should be noted
that the image-editing interface
in the mobile version of Google Docs
is very simple and intuitive
To move an image
it is enough to touch it by finger
in the middle
and drag it to a new location
To change the image size
pull enough by any of
the highlighted squares
on his frame
Rotate the image at any angle
can be achieved by pulling
the protruding top round icon
Thus
when moving images
as well as when it is resized
and rotated
the screen is displaying
red lines for dynamic binding
which allows precise positioning of
the image on the sheet
even on a small screen of
mobile device
Another main feature of
the new version of the mobile Google Docs
is the ability to edit
headers and footers
Now you can place
the name of the document in the header
which will be visible
on every page
In addition, you can set up a field
for automatic
page numbers
which you may place
either the header or in the footer
at any position
In conjunction with such functions like separation of pages
and modifying a page of contents
this allows to create
well-structured documents
on smartphones

Signing in to Google Chrome - Duration: 3:52.
Hi everybody, Pete here from IT Support.
Today I'm going to cover signing into google chrome which we will
use as our browser when we move to
Google for our email and our file
storage. Up to to now we've been using
Internet Explorer to access the web and
occasionally perhaps Google Chrome but
this is the best browser to use from now
on. If i open it up now the normal
Google search engine appears but it has
a facility which will be useful - sign in.
That's at the top top right hand
corner - you'll see a small figure, if you
drop that down and select
Sign into Chrome it will ask you for
your Cwcab email address. I'm going to
use a training address today for this
demonstration and put the password in
here - but you should put in the google
password that we will distribute as we
create those accounts. The next stage is
to click "link data" and then we can close
Ad Blocker and Hangouts - which is the
subject of a different video. Go on
through the prompt and you'll see at
this stage there's no difference from
where we started
except that when we close the browser
and open it again
the Intranet will appear. This is our new
Intranet and replaces the one that we've
been using to date. In the center
left here will be the management blog
information area and at the top of the
screen here some useful links - and some
information down the left-hand side.
What I want to demonstrate today is
the bookmarks bar
which you will find very useful to access
your files and your mail. You can add
items to this bar very easily - click on
the apps at top left and you'll see a number of
icons appear. Some of these you will use quite
commonly. I've already got google docs up
here and I can add the Drive. This is where
your files will be transferred from the
current server drives and if I've got an address up
here that I want to add as a bookmark i
can click the star at the end of the
line and finish. That will be added
to my bookmarks bar. I might also want to
add Gmail because we will have no Outlook
(that will be removed). Our mail will be
in the normal Gmail interface and again
if i click the star that appears in the
bookmarks bar. If I close down the
browser and open it up again those
bookmarks are saved across the top bar
and if you do this exercise once on any
machine that you use in a Cheshire West
location, when you log into a
pc with your normal username and
password and open chrome the same page
will appear. You'll have easy access
to your Drive, documents and any other
web page that you find useful.
Thank you very much..

The term "data search" of "Google documents"? - Duration: 2:48.
The term "data search" of "Google documents"?
Hello everyone
This time, we will discuss "data search" of "Google Docs"
Read the data automatically by machine learning to "Google Docs / Sheets / Slides",
It has been implemented that us to display the information based on the data "data search" feature
But is a function that can each be used in the same way, the property will depend on the service

"Data search" function of the "Google Docs" reads a certain keyword you entered in the document files automatically,

YouTube Live With Google Events - Duration: 9:27.
Welcome everyone to this edition of
Learn to Live Stream with Ms. Ileane. My
name is Ileane Smith and I'm here on
Google+ and Youtube and I want to just
give you a little heads up on something
that's happening. The whole live video
landscape is constantly changing
there's so many new things coming out
that I can't even keep up with them all
but this one today I wanted to share
with you that first Google+ events went
away but guess what
now they're back! And right now I have a
Google+ event going on with this YouTube
Live video. So I just want to do some
screen sharing to show you guys what it
looks like now bear with me because this
just went live recently this is
January 29, 2017 by the way and so I'm
a fumble around with it a little bit
because nobody really has a tutorial on
how to do it so i'm going to attempt to
show you guys how it works so let's get
to the screenshare shall we? okay here is
the event page and if I did everything
correctly i should be able to refresh
and eventually - yeah - you see there
that the screen sharing is was showing
up so of course it's always on a little
bit of a delay and so let me
take off the screen share so then you
can see haha
and so what you have to do is go over to
Google+ events and if you don't remember
how to get there
I know it's been a while but i will
definitely leave the links to everything
in the description of this video but
this is why I think it's important guys
some of you have built a following up
one google hangouts before they went
away or I should say on google+ before
the events went away and before YouTube
decided to take them or separate youtube
from Google+ because at one point they
were tied together and really I'm not
trying to go down memory lane because at
this point a lot of us probably can't
even keep track of whether it's together or
whether it isn't. And so this one kind of
snuck in under the radar and that's why
I wanted to let you know about it
because what you can do with the event
page you can keep the conversation if
you want your comments to stay because
with a Youtube Live video the chat goes
away at the end of the broadcast but
with the event page the conversation,
the comments, the engagement does not go away
because this event page will remain on
google+ and you can share it out. Now
some folks will probably say well I
want on my website that's an option
too but we got explore all the options
right and so for somebody like me who
had thousands and thousands of followers
over on google plus it makes sense for
me to have this over on the event page
because the people that are still there
they're used to being on google+ they
like hangout on Google+ and is familiar
to them and so they can just subscribe
to my event they'll get different
notification than they would if they
were to have it on my website so we try
to make things as easy as we can for
people and we know that with YouTube the
notifications sometimes aren't is
accurate and sometimes people get
unsubscribed so rumor has it i never had
that problem huh
so anyway I just wanted to share that
with you guys really quickly and so now
what we'll do is we are going to pretend
that we're starting up an event from
scratch so let's do that now you don't
have to use YouTube live to do this
event but I was a matter of fact maybe
you do I think I misspoke sorry about
that
so we're going to start it from the event
side because the event has to be set up
and scheduled first in order for you to
be able to share that out and to you
know get our folks all one page and you
know whether they responded that they
were coming or not
so you go over here and this is plus.google.com/events
but like i said i
will have all the links in the
description of this video as well as
links to the previous episodes and this
series of learn to live stream with Ms. Ileane
So you would also create an event
and they give you choice of different
banners or you can upload your own and
this is where you would do the upload or
if you could just tell to go into your
photos and or you can just do one of
these generic ones that are kind of
under the other category so let's just
pick one of those just for now and then
what you want to be sure you do you know
you add in your title your date of your
event your location now since we're
going to be doing in online event
we're going to say that it's a hangout
and then this is where you will put the
YouTube URL
right there and this is where you invite
your circles there
ok so that was just a real quick
walkthrough guys please let me know if
you have questions let me get that off
of the screen come back to you
that's me the hangout is some be a
little finicky here they don't you got
me back now and I do have one viewer
here so it was probably me huh
so I'm going to just take a real quick
look-over on YouTube because there is
that chat still over on my youtube page
so i just want to go over here and just
make sure nobody didn't nobody has left
any comments in the chat because the
last time I didn't check and I was on
the wrong page and lo and behold I had
folks over there chatting I think that
was just last week or the week before so
anyway guys we got so many options with
these live video and using YouTube live
and of course Facebook, Instagram, Twitter
all that stuff. I am here to help you
I'll also be speaking and Social Media
marketing world on March the 23rd the
conference's from the 22nd 23rd 24th be
sure to get the link in my
description will also have links to the
virtual conference for those who can't
come to San Diego in March so with that
just know that
ask any questions that you have about
using a live video in the comments
section or you can catch me on Twitter
but i think this is really exciting
there's a lot of possibilities that we
had kind of forgotten about and kind of
getting used to not using Google+ but if
you have a following over there I think
it makes sense for you to just take a
look schedule
a couple of events and just see how it goes
because i want you to grow your YouTube
channel your live video following and so
we have to explore some of these options
okay with that I want you to have a
wonderful day and I'll see you next
weekend with another tutorial about
using live video take care have a great
week guys
