Donald Trump news: US President unveils US tax system reforms

The President also announced hefty tax cuts for businesses and individuals which would nearly double the personal tax-free allowance to $12,000.

But critics claim his plans favour big business and the super rich, while some analysts have warned they could cost trillions in the long term.  Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd in Indianapolis last night, Mr Trump described his proposals as a "once-in-a-generation" chance.

He said: "Were going to cut taxes for the middle class, make the tax code simpler and more fair for everyday Americans, and we are going to bring back the jobs and wealth that have left our country — and most people thought left our country for good.

"These tax cuts are significant.

There's never been tax cuts like what we're talking about." Every US citizen who earns more than $6,350 is required to file a lengthy federal tax return - similar to a self assessment in the UK - every year.

Mr Trump's changes would reduce the number of tax brackets from seven to three and would in theory make the process of paying taxes far easier.

The real estate mogul said this would allow most American families to file their taxes on a "single sheet of paper".

He added: "The current tax system is a colossal barrier standing in the way of America's economic comeback because it can be far greater than its ever been.

"But were going to remove that barrier to create the tax system our people finally, finally, finally — and want and deserve." Mr Trump insisted his overhaul was not for the benefit of the "wealthy or well-connected".

But a review published by Bloomberg concluded his proposed scrapping of the estate tax - similar to the UK's inheritance tax - would result in a multi-million dollar tax cut for the President and his billionaire cabinet. .

The former reality TV star has consistently refused to release his tax returns - something every President has done for more than four decades - so it is impossible to tell exactly how much his proposals would save him.  Mr Trump's Republican party has a slim majority in Congress, and his plans will need to face several difficult votes before they become law.  Republican Senator Bob Corker told reporters earlier this week he would oppose any proposals that were funded with borrowed money.

He said: "What I can tell you is that Im not about to vote for any bill that increases our deficit, period.".

Megarafting animals rode from Japan to US and Canada after the 2011 tsunami - Duration: 2:40.

Animals are known to travel the world

on makeshift rafts -- synthetic or natural.

This is not a frequent thing--

most coasts have pretty different animals and plants

from one to the next.

But the 2011 Japanese tsunami

caused a megarafting event and scientists were able to

track objects that travelled as far as 7,000km

As the water left Japan's eastern shore

it brought with it a panoply of debris--

millions of objects ranging in size

from tiny plastic fragments to whole fishing boats.

Under the water, the debris field

became home to diverse marine life.

As ocean currents swept these objects away,

they took their inhabitants with them.

Many making their way all the way to the Eastern Pacific.

With all these animals and detritus on the move,

the Japanese tsunami provided a unique

opportunity to track and evaluate

the fate of a biologically-rich debris field.

Debris with living Japanese marine species

began landing on the shores of the Eastern Pacific

in 2012, as far north as southwest Alaska

and as far east as central California.

Researchers have documented animals

on 635 debris objects, including docks, buoys,

pieces of wood, and even fishing vessels.

They found at least 279 living Japanese invertebrate

and fish species, none of which have been

reported to have rafted between continents before.

Many debris objects were categorized as

'high richness arrivals' meaning that they carried

more than 20 species.

This richness may be attributed to the large amount of

non-biodegradable material available for rafting.

Organic rafting materials such as trees and

root masses have far shorter lives at sea,

when compared to synthetic materials

such as fiberglass or polystyrene.

Longer at-sea times means

barnacles, limpets, and mussels

can establish colonies that can span

multiple generations.

Now we know from this study of the mega rafting

engendered by the Japanese tsunami,

just how far they will go

As the world's population grows,

the amount of waste entering the ocean will rise.

And that means in the future,

our coasts could become a lot less diverse

as more animals hitch a ride.

Former U.S. officials to hold informal talks with N. Korea next month - Duration: 2:12.

Ex-U.S. government officials are reportedly planning to hold informal talks with North

Korea sometime next month.

A top diplomat of the regime is also scheduled to sit-down with a senior Russian official

in Moscow.

Pyongyang may be looking for a way out of the intense pressure it's brought upon itself.

Ji Myung-kil sheds light on this development.

The North Korean regime's door to dialogue with the U.S.,... may be opening up... with

reports surfacing... that Washington and Pyongyang are planning to hold informal talks.

Although Washington is unlikely to send any officials currently serving in the Trump administration,...

it's hoped the meeting could help diffuse the ongoing crisis.

According to the Japanese daily Asahi Shimbun,... the two countries are set to engage in the

so-called "1-point-5 track" dialogue,... in mid-October in Oslo.

Citing sources familiar with the matter...

Asahi reports... that former U.S. government officials and experts on North Korean affairs...

will meet with a North Korean delegation... that's likely to be headed by Choi Sun-hee.

Choi-Sun-hee,... Pyongyang's North American bureau chief,... arrived in Moscow earlier

this week,... seeking discussions with top Russian officials.

North Korea has been trying to build close ties with Russia in recent months,... amid

the regime's deteriorating relations with its main ally, China.

Meanwhile, China has ordered North Korean companies in the country to pull their shutters

down within 120-days,... in line with the UN Security Council's latest sanctions.

The move is a blow for some 1-hundred North Korean restaurants operating in China, which

have already had difficulties in getting or renewing visas for their workers amid increased

scrutiny from Beijing.

This is also bad news for Kim Jong-un,... as the restaurants and other businesses will

not be able to generate millions of dollars in revenue that is sent back to Pyongyang.

The international community has been stepping up pressure on North Korea to make it give

up its nuclear ambitions,... and calls have been growing for China to use its leverage

as North Korea's closest ally and largest trading partner to rein in the regime.

North Korea missile launch 'IMMINENT' as US deploy nuke detection plane - Duration: 2:47.

North Korea missile launch 'IMMINENT' as US deploy nuke detection plane

The suspicious activity prompted the US to deploy their Cobra Ball missile detection aircraft. The rogue state seems to have established an ICBM-capable launch site on their west coast in the countrys Kusong region, according to reports.

Two Nightwatch and two Looking Glass aircraft also reportedly rushed to the skies as the US looked to verify whether a North Korea launch is imminent.  The Cobra Ball is an intelligence-gathering aircraft equipped with powerful radar to detect ballistic missiles.

The plane was used to monitor all of North Koreas most recent missile tests. Chillingly, the development comes on the same day the hermit kingdom released propaganda images to prepare Kims people for war with the US.

FEARS: The US deployed the Cobra Ball detection plane amid fears of a North Korea missile test.

Earlier, posters warned of a coming "great and decisive war against America", urging North Koreans to prepare for battle. Citizens in the capital Pyongyang were snapped pasting the propaganda messages on all public places to hammer Kims point home.

And Kims top diplomat has already threatened to shoot down US planes after B-1B bombers blasted over the region. Fears of a conflict in the region reached boiling point recently after President Trump warned he would "totally destroy" Kims regime.

He described the tubby tyrant as a "rocket man on a suicide mission" in a barnstorming debut speech at the UN. And Pyongyang responded by stressing their right to nuclear weapons, labelling Trump "deranged" in the process.

Kim has repeatedly launched missiles and detonated his most powerful nuclear weapon in a series of tests this year.

He believes expanding his nuclear arsenal will secure the regime's rule and allow the North to defend itself from its neighbours and the threat of a US invasion.

Russia V USA: US 'to restrict' Russian military flights over America as tensions soar - Duration: 3:54.

Russia V USA: US 'to restrict' Russian military flights over America as tensions soar

Tensions between Russia and the US continued to rise in August when over West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Washington DC and Bedminster, where Donald Trump was vacationing at the time.

However, those flights are not the cause of the new restrictions, according to US officials, but their violation of the Open Skies Treaty.

The treaty, which dates back to the Cold War, allows member countries to send unarmed observational flights in order to promote transparency about military activity.

It was reported that the US has concerns about Russian restrictions on American surveillance flights over Kalingrad, an area which is reported to have sophisticated weaponry. The restrictions prompted US officials to question what the military in Kalingrad may be doing.

A US Department of State Official said the US government will take reasonable and comparable measures to deal with Russias alleged non-compliance with the treaty.  We have long had concerns about Russias implementation of the Open Skies Treaty.

After repeated, unsuccessful attempts to engage Moscow diplomatically, we have elected to take some reasonable and comparable steps in response to Russias non-compliance. "We hope this will change Russia's calculus and encourage Russia to engage with us about our concerns more constructively.

"We're ready to reverse these measures at any time, should Russia come back into compliance with its Open Skies Treaty obligations." Richard Aboulafia, a senior aerospace analyst with the Virginia-based Teal group believes the US may be taking actions for one of two reasons.  He said: "One is that they've done a very thorough assessment and they're balancing what the U.S.

is getting out of these flights relative to what they think the Russians are getting out of these flights and they've decided it's not worth it.

"The other is that they are doing this for reasons of political showmanship, which is very dangerous." Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said the reported intention to restrict observational flights is yet another example of tactics to pressure other nations instead of seeking compromise.

He said: "Obviously, that is not a partnership move. We don't see this treaty as giving any unilateral advantage to any party. The treaty benefits all parties.

It's a necessary valuable document, which should be preserved, but the United States is again demonstrating that it prefers the path of pressure. Russia responded to Americas actions this afternoon by urging Washington to review the decision as part of the Open Skies Treaty.
