What Is Wrong With My Google Home Right Now? Your Smart Home Questions Answered - Duration: 11:28.
What's wrong with you right now? Sorry something went wrong try again in a few
seconds. Very typical right now if your Google
Home or your Google Assistant enabled device is struggling right now and
you're wondering what's going on I have some opinions with some good research to
give you here on what's going on and when we might see some of this led up
now what I'm telling you is there's a bit of a difference right now I have
never had the amount of issues that I'm having in my own home at this time and
there's really nothing that has changed here for me the most of the people that
I'm getting reports from and I've been you know soliciting some of these
reports for the last couple of weeks most of the reports are are very similar
people haven't changed anything in their homes they haven't changed anything on
their Google Home or their Google Assistant and suddenly functionality has
stopped working so what is going on what are these issues you know for myself
I've had my devices waking without any wake word or any sound in the home not
just not just you know ambient noise going on there is literally no sound I'm
sitting and my devices are waking up I've sent those reports to Google and
they've started to look into them and I'll let you guys know when I get
something back from them but you know they were very helpful at that point I
should always mention how helpful they've been with lots of these issues
with me I've also had multiple of my Google Home and my Google Assistant
devices disconnecting and then needing a full reset or a full factory reset and a
set up again in some cases where they're just stuck in an odd place and you can't
get them set up I've also had Google Chromecasts and I have had some Google
Chromecasts in my home working flawlessly for three years suddenly dying and I
have multiple people who've contacted me for support with that same very same
issue with Google Chromecast that they've had
for years showing up or disappearing sorry rather in their homes just
disappearing and being unable to be contacted and and having to factory
reset the devices as well on top of that what we're also seeing and if you look
at reddit right now you can see a lot of issues in the Google Home communities
and you can see this in Google's own communities lots of people are
struggling with devices they've had connected for years again or at least
for a year you know with a Google Home device but Google Assistant home control
those devices have been struggling in some cases you're just not able to get
exactly the device you want or it can't find the devices anymore or you know we
had the needs more information issue show up here very recently and just lots
of home control and then simple query issues where Google just does not seem
to be able to answer our answer what it was capable of months ago so let's talk
about what's going on or what I think is going on so through lots of research
through again you know different forums different communities and people who are
relatively regarded as product experts within the Google Home suite of products
or Google Assistant here are saying that the latest firmware push does have a
number of issues in them and what's being worked on in the background and as
part of this firmware push is things like Google Duplex so Google Duplex is
what I think is our main issue and actually one of our subscribers here
Dorothy is her name and she's been here for a long time and she always tells me
how things are going with her Google Home products and one of the things she
said is that my Google Home is much better conversationally the Google
Assistant is so much better at reading things back and just in general in terms
of conversation and what I'm telling you is Google Duplex has been deployed and
not just on our devices but also on the server
Google side now why do I say that well if you're thinking about deployment it's
really hard to deploy Duplex on a few phones in a few select cities in one
country and have it really be limited and have everyone else in the world
using a different set of servers and a different set it's just not gonna work
out so what I'm telling you is the code for Duplex is out there and that is
messing with everything right now not only that but I believe behind
everything that Google is doing part of Duplex and part of the coding going on
and part of the AI implementation is to fix their routines on top of that we
know the whole lists capability is being adjusted on the fly because we've seen a
partial release of the ability to create different lists but when you go and you
do that your Assistant can no longer add things to your shopping list for example
so that's another capability or function that we know is in the midst of
deployment he saw all the latest features from CES the auto-translation
feature we know that was capable on Pixel Buds a while ago but now deploying
it to all of these or attempting that development is going to take a lot of
resources on top of that if you think about Google Assistant's deployment on
Google Maps in both Android and iOS the ability to actually utilize that in some
new functions that are being placed into that are also going to be not only
stretching development resources but having to be tested at this point with
your Google Assistant the relatively new iOS and Android application layout and
we know that there's issues with that but that's also taking away development
resources and we're seeing consistent upgrades and changes to that application
to catch up right now with what's being asked for for people we know the drop in
capability or what Amazon calls their drop in capability is being worked at on
as well and so you know you're seeing this massive massive change in
capabilities in functionality that really what I'll tell you is
unprecedented in terms of any sort of software I've ever seen you know you
think back to Microsoft's deployments of things like service packs on their OS
and I liken this to that because we're talking about implementation of an AI on
millions of devices out in the field and in terms of the Google Assistant
billions of devices now not everyone is getting all of that functionality but
what I'm telling you is all of that is coming to some people at some time and
it's relatively soon I think we are months now away from a full deployment
of Duplex in the US and I would say we're under a month away from that
deployment of Duplex if not you know latest I think we're two months away
from that full deployment in the US and most of those capabilities that I've
talked about here and most of these changes that I've talked about three to
four months away and so right now all of that testing is going on because lots of
that code has had to go live and it has had to be tested by Google employees in
a live system in a live environment so with all this said with this massive
massive deployment that's already gone on in the background as far as I'm
concerned and this massive massive deployment that I think is going to go
on in the next couple of months where does this leave us ultimately it leads
us with our devices struggling right now and you know what I think we're going to
have to live with it here for another month or two I've already seen some
issues even out go away and then I've seen other ones crop up so I think this
is going to go on for a little while longer I don't think we're getting out
of this anytime soon but within a couple of months I think
you will have a massive massive increase in Google assistant capabilities
including full deployment of do in the US and as well as lots of these
other features all over the world the other thing is that real-time
translation and their focus on the international market I do think you
international folks outside of continental North America here I do
think you're about to get a massive increase in features as well in 2019 and
I would say in the first half of 2019 so guys this is what I can give you today
you know I hope this is helping you see a little bit of the light and also
understand a little bit of what's going on with your Google home products so let
me know in the comments below I'm open to other suggestions because again this
is research I've been doing here for the last few weeks this is what I'm finding
and you know what there's going to be things that other people are finding
right now and I am open to that and I want to have an open honest discussion
about this right now I'm not here to attack Google and I'm not here to defend
Google as well just giving you my opinion and trying to help you see
what's coming no guys this is the kind of content and insight that I am giving
my Patreon subscribers so basically patreon if you don't know what it is it
is a subscription service that you can go you can pledge different amounts on a
monthly basis it goes from $1.00 to $100 and at different levels you get
different benefits from us here at automate your life now what I'll tell
you is it's stuff like this that I am giving those people who have already
pledged have already joined up on our patreon page and I'd love to have more
people over there so I can continue to give better and better insight service
and capability now I've already had lots of those people provide me new questions

into the industry and into what I'm doing as a creator here as well the
different resources and the different capabilities that I'm intending to give
you as home automation folks so there you have it everyone make sure you check
that out and of course if you haven't ready subscribe here on automate your

Google Ads Target Specific Devices 2019 - Duration: 4:49.
Hi, my name is Erwin.
In this quick video, I want to show you how you can target specific devices in Google
Ads because this wasn't completely obvious for me when I was trying Google Ads for my
YouTube channel.
After creating your campaign and adding some ad groups with videos.
You can select the campaign.
Go to Settings.
In the previous version of Google ads you were able to set the device targeting right
here.
There is still if you expand Additional settings, Devices.
Here you can select all devices; computers, mobiles, tablets, and TV screens or you can
specify to only target mobile devices, and when you target mobile devices you can also
select the operating system, device models and network.
You can't do this with computers, I create Windows tutorials, it would be amazing if
I could say, "I only want to target people on Windows" but sadly that is not possible.
Here you can only select all devices or only target mobile devices.
But what if you only want to target computers, or only want to target tablets or TV screens.
Then you need to go to Devices.
Here you see the same devices types; mobile phones, tablets, computers, and TV screens
and there is a column to input bid adjustments.
This will adjust your bid for this campaign or the the ad group.
Select Edit.
Then you can choose Increase or Decrease your bid.
We are going to decrease it by 100%.
Save it.
Now my bid, my standard bid is 5 cents, my bid for mobile phones will be zero, so it
won't show anymore.
You can do the same for tablets.
Decrease 100
Save We do the same for TV screens.
100 Decrease
Save Now our bid for mobile phones, tablets and
TV screens is zero and for computers is our standard bid.
We now made this bid adjustment on the campaign level, but what if you want to run your channel
trailer on all devices and your other videos only on computers.
Then you have to make adjustments on ad group level.
Let's go to Channel Trailer.
As you can see these are set to minus 100 because these are set at campaign level and
when I try to change them, let's say to zero, you will see that we get an error message.
"To set an ad group level bid adjustment, change or remove the campaign level decrease
of 100% for this device".
As you can see they don't stack.
When the campaign level one is -100%.
Cancel Go back to the campaign.
Remove this.
Save The others as well.
Then go to the Channel Trailer You will see that they are all blank now.
They use the standard bid.
Go to, for example, Spotlight.
And here you can set it to -100 again.
This one also.
And TV screen.
Now the ads for my Channel Trailer will run on every device and my Spotlight video will
only run on computers.
This is everything you have to do to target specific devices.
Let me know if this was helpful for you and if it was, consider, subscribing and liking
this video.
If you want to see another video of mine; on the left you find my latest upload, and
on the right, you find a video selected by Google just for you.

Netflix on the Google Home Hub with a Samsung Phone or Tablet - Duration: 4:13.
That's Netflix playing on your Google Home Hub and basically I can do that
with any application on your Android device here, specific Android devices, but
let me show you how you do it. Now this is clearly a workaround, there is no native
support for Netflix on the Google Home Hub and basically this is only
going to work with certain Android devices. So Android 7.0 or better and
with the Samsung Smart View application. Now what you need is actually the
native application so you can actually pull down from the top and as you pull
down from the top there's actually a Smart View screen here, and I'm going to
show you just how this works exactly in a demo in a moment, but once you pull
that down it will actually find the Google Home Hub on your home network, so
it will try and find other smart displays, I haven't had any success in
terms of a Lenovo Smart Display. Obviously this was intended to work with
other Android devices, and Samsung TVs, the Smart TVs. You were intended to be
able to duplicate your screen, now the resolution is relatively good, and I'll
tell you on a Google Home Hub you really can't tell the difference between it
playing here and it playing here. Once in a while if your home network is a little
bit slower, you're going to see a bit of a slowdown, but overall the sound plays
here. Everything works here, voice commands don't work here, but you have
full control here, and can watch anything on your Google Home Hub using the
Samsung Smart View application. Now the downloadable application I actually
don't have an Android device to tell you whether or not you can go and
download that application. So someone down in the comments go ahead try that
out and leave it for us, and then I'll pin that comment here. So without further
adieu, let's go through a demonstration of how this actually gets set up and works.
Starting out on our tablet, here what you're going to want to do.
Swipe down from the top and this is the screen you get, you can see Smart View
sitting right there. Now as you tap on Smart View it brings
up this application and you're going to want to find your Google Home Hub. Now
mine is called Living Room Hub that I'm going to show the demo on, and as I tap
you can see it goes through a connection process, and then once it's done what you
get is actually taken back to your base screen. Now from here you can go into any
application and you can also see there are some buttons if you just click on
that Smart View button over on the right-hand side, you actually get a
little menu to pause sharing, change the device, or disconnect, or you can pull
down from the top menu as well, and then simply tap on that Living Room Hub. You
can see it's actually connected to that and as its connected to that, if you tap
on there, you can actually disconnect and/or switch devices as well. So a
couple different ways to do that now here's the result of it on my Google
Home Hub!

RW for Google Chrome - Duration: 4:39.
So we're looking at the text help Google, ...
... extension,
the Read&Write for Google Chrome extension.
And so I'm just going to jump right in.
So I have it installed in my browser and I'm going to...
...show you how it works.
So to enable it, I click on the extension and ...
now I have this toolbar that I can drag around the
website where I need it.
And if I click play it's going to...
Start at the top of the page and kind of read down.
But what I can do is if I want it to start at a specific spot I ...
can select the text that I wanted to read.
[RW reading: Universal Design for Learning ...
(UDL) is a set of principles for curric...] and it will read it.
That's how it works..
The text-to-speech function is pretty straightforward.
[RW Reading: UDL has its beginning in the ...
universal design architectural movement which came out of] ...
So one thing that I'll point out is you can control the speed ...
and the voice that you use by going to options and.
Speech and then you have an list of.
voices that you can choose from and also the speed.
In continuous reading what that does is once you select
something for it to start reading it will read the rest of ...
the page so if you only want it to read what you select you ...
can uncheck that box. So let's get back...
So this works really great for web pages,
anything on the web.
But a lot of times in classes you'll have PDFs to read and so...
as long as the PDF... There's two caveats 1) that ...
the PDF is hosted online somewhere on the internet ...
and 2) that the PDF has had OCR run on it.
OCR stands for optical character recognition and it's ...
a process by which the image of the text is rendered so that ...
the text is selectable. I have an example of that here and,
Specifically in, and we can leverage ...
OneDrive to host the PDF for us and then now if I click my
Toolbar you can see it here.
Once I select.
text and let's see I'll just try and get this first pararaph
then click "Play"
[RW reading: Students with disabilities are ...
in danger of being either ...]
So there it is. This,
Even though this is a PDF as long as it's hosted online and ...
it's had the OCR run on it, I can read it.
I can also do some other things and I'm going to point ...
out these highlighting tool so I'm going to
highlight this.
First sentence is kind of the main topic, the
thesis statement
and then
here's
a supporting point.
I can highlight in another color.
So you could go through this document doing that and ...
using these colors as kind of contextual highlighting,
assign value to each color or a meaning to each color.
And then this button on the end of something pretty cool,
it will collect all the highlights.
into a single document with a link back to the original.
The
This does require a Google account
but you can see this could be a great study tool.
And so and now that I'm done with the document I can erase all my
Highlights.
And
turn off the tool.
And that's it.

How To Create a Google My Business Local Listing (DEMO) - Duration: 7:11.
Hey everyone, it's Bryan Caplan here with the Bigger
Better Biz channel where I equip you with the tools and know how to grow that
bigger, better,
small business. Now today we're going to be looking at
Google my business and I'm going to take you through the process of adding your
own business to Google my business.
It's actually quite simple. First thing,
you're gonna. Notice I am at Google.com/business.
Now when you jump there, you're going to be asked to log into
your google account. I'm already logged in here,
so I am just fine. Now if you do not have a google account,
no problem, you'll go to google.com/accounts and you
can create a new google account. Doesn't mean you have to use Gmail or g
suite, but you have access to those tools once
you create a google account and you can even use your existing email which might
be@aol.com or verizon.net. Any of those.
So let's assume that you're logged in to your google.com account and now we're
going to create a business name. So in this case,
I'm going to create Bryan's pizza. Okay,
now I type in Bryan's pizza. This is my own business,
but there's already an existing Bryan's pizza in central Florida.
That's not me. So what I'm going to do is create a
business with this name and I'll go to next.
Now it's going to show me, okay,
where are you located? It's prompting me for my address.
So there's an address for where Bryan's pizza is located.
Now, of course were pizza place.
We're going to be delivering goods and services.
You know it gets the extra money. So I'll click deliver and here's
something. Why don't we click?
I delivered goods and services. Now,
I used a pizza place example, but let's say that you are a
professional service provider or a home services providers.
So you might be a plumber, Hvac,
you might be an electrician, you might be a realtor,
you may be an insurance agent. Any of those where you deliver goods and
services or you go out to your client's location,
your customer's location, you would click here,
I deliver goods and services. That means you're a service based
business. The thing here is there's some you know,
like let's say your home based business and you're a plumber operating out of
your house, you just go on plumbing calls,
emergency calls, you can hide your address right here.
That makes sure that it's telling Google I'm not a storefront,
I don't want people coming to my address,
but this is my legitimate address and it's telling Google,
please hide my address so people can't request directions to my place of
business. So in this case I'm not going to hide my
address because I am a pizza place. I want people to walk in,
so I'll click next. Now is this your business?
It looks like your business might already have a listing.
That's because this is the condo complex that I live in down in Tampa,
so I could say this matches or in this case this doesn't match.
Let's continue. So add the areas you serve.
Use Mailer career. No,
we don't send out through mail or courier distance.
Around Your Business? Yes.
Or specific areas. So let's just say I do specific areas.
I can say Tampa, Florida.
I could say winter park, which isn't close to us,
maybe it's plant city, Florida,
or what I could do instead is say distance around my business.
I'm actually going to go and deliver eight miles away from my business and
I'll click next. Now it's going to ask me for my business
category. Something very important here and we'll
have other videos talking about finding your business category,
but with business category, you want to choose the primary category
that best describes your business. So in this case,
I'll type in pizza and it's going to be pizza restaurant.
Now, once I've chosen my primary category,
I can choose up to 10 categories total, so I have nine other categories that I
can apply. Maybe I want to do pizza,
so if I type in pizza again, there's pizza delivery,
pizza takeaway, pizza restaurant.
I'm going to choose pizza restaurant, but my other categories might be pizza
delivery because I want to push delivery next.
Then we'll have a contact phone number, but let's say that we do six,
one, seven,
five, five,
five, seven,
eight, seven,
seven. And then current website would be
Bryan's pizza Tampa.com. That's assuming that I have a website,
maybe I don't need a website, which actually you do.
You really want to have a website and there'll be videos on that as well.
But the other thing that Google my business does is allows us to create a
free website based on the Info we're entering right now.
So I ha. I owned Bryan's pizza Tampa.com.
Let's say I already have a website or I could get a free website that Google
will help me build myself a click on next.
And then this is saying verify this business.
So we want to allow new customers to find us on Google search and maps.
Yes, we definitely want to be promoting our
business with photos and posts. Yes,
we can track business analytics to understand our customers,
where they're searching from, where they're getting directions from,
where they're calling from, and we can respond to customer reviews,
which is extremely important. And you'll see other videos on this
channel that talk about customer reviews.
We'll click on finish.
Now we have some options. We can have a postcard set,
so in this case, postcard may take up to five business
days to arrive, so I'll send it to Bryan Caplan at five,
one, two,
five, Palm Springs Boulevard,
Tampa, Florida,
three through six, four slash seven,
and I can click mail. Google will now mail a postcard.
This is the verification process, so this is making sure that your
business exists at the address that you said it exists,
so I would send the postcard to Bryan Caplan,
care of Bryan's Pizza. There's also,
if you want to, you can verify later in this case,
since I'm just showing you how to create,
you would mail the postcard, but I'll click on later
and now here we go. I am brought into my Bryan's pizza,
Google my business dashboard. This is an awesome thing that's showing
me a lot of different information. What I'm going to do is in part two of
the series, I'll take you through a tour of all the
different features and functionality that are available to me as a new
business within Google, my business and it's dashboard.

How To Optimize Your Google My Business Local Listing (DEMO) - Duration: 22:23.
Welcome back everyone, this is Bryan Caplan with the Bigger,
Better Biz channel where I equip you with the tools and know how to grow
that bigger, better,
small business. Now,
if you've followed step one and watch the video,
then you know how to create your google my business profile on Google
my business, and now we're going to assume that you
are looking at this screen so you have created a google my business profile in
this case. We've created Bryan's pizza,
which is a pizza place located in Tampa, Florida,
and now I'm going to take you through the features and functionality that are
made available to you by Google my business.
One big note here, and caveat if you will,
if you do not verify your listing and you can see right here,
this big x verification needed. If you do not verify your listing,
then you're not able to use all these different features.
So I'm going to click through and show you what's available,
but we won't actually have a full view of the features until we verify our
listing. And in this case,
since it's a fake business, I won't be verifying the listing.
Just notice verification allows you to have people find you across Google so it
actually makes your listing or your google my business profile public.
It allows you to create promotional posts,
allows you to track business analytics, who's calling you,
who's requesting directions, how many views you're getting on your
business profile, and very importantly,
it allows you to respond to customer reviews.
People are telling you you have delicious pizza.
They want to tell other people you have delicious pizza.
It allows you to manage those reviews, respond to them,
and even handle negative reviews if you ever get them.
So in order to verify, I would just click on verify.
Now, no google,
my business is trying to make this as easy as possible for you to update and
really have a fully populated profile. It's very important.
It's actually been found in Google research that customers are two point
seven times more likely to do business with you if you have a fully populated
full profile. So that would include adding your hours,
adding a description, and adding a logo.
So let's go through this. I want to add my hours,
I click on the plus button and now right now it's showing me as
closed. Every day we want to show is open
everyday because we're open Sunday through Saturday and let's say that we
open up at 11:00 AM and we're going to be closed at 1:00 AM.
Now you see this add hours button. That's if I want to add extra hours to a
specific day. In this case I won't do that.
So I just went through and added the hours for every day.
And just to be simple and plain, I'm just doing 11 to 1 every day.
Of course that would change if we were real business.
I'll click on apply. So now we're showing my hours every
single day. So it's going to be 11:00 AM to 1:00 AM.
And what you're seeing here is because the hours overlap into the next day,
that's why you're seeing 12:00 AM to 1:00 AM and then 11:00 AM to 12:00 AM
because of course that flows into the next day.
So this looks a little confusing, but we're all set now service area.
And the last part, we're asked if we could denote our
service area, and we said that we'll deliver up to
eight miles away from the location. Here is the name of the restaurant pizza
restaurant. That's our category.
So if I click on this right now,
Our primary category is pizza restaurant.
Notice I can add another category. So I'll type in pizza,
I'll type in pizza delivery, add another category.
I could type in pizza takeaway if I wanted to add another category.
Let's say that I'm a sandwich shop too. I could add sandwich shop,
although you can add multiple and really up to 10 categories.
You don't necessarily want to.
Of course you're trying to, you know,
work with Google and you're trying to enter in information and trying to be
found as much as you can. But think about the public perception.
So great example here in Tampa, there are restaurants that are hybrids,
so there's a, a Latin Chinese restaurant,
right? And so that restaurant would put their
primary category as either Chinese or Latin food,
and then they'd have an additional category as Chinese.
But if they started doing sandwich shop and fast food and all these things,
then people wouldn't know what it is and as a result,
they may not want to come and order food from there because the restaurant
doesn't even have an identity. So make sure that when you're choosing
your categories, they're true to your identity.
True to your brand and this case, these all make sense.
So I'll click on apply and now you can see my primary
categories, pizza,
restaurant, and then we have takeaway sandwich or
pizza delivery. Those are my four categories.
Now information over here, you're going to see advanced info store
code. That's if you have multiple locations.
This is all internal. You can enter labels as well.
So I might enter in a label Tampa
and that's just for me to keep track. Also,
if you're working with Google ads, you can add in a phone number and
extension phone so that you can track those calls.
Now we might have special hours. Special hours are really,
really important. And what we're talking about,
special hours, these are dates that you may be closed
or you might close early. So I mean we're here in January,
but let's go all the way to December, choose the 25th and tell everyone,
hey, we're closed December 25th,
maybe that same time. Let's go back to December and on
December 24th will open at 11:00 AM, but we might close at six,
let's say 10:00 PM instead so that we can at least get home and and be there
for Christmas morning.
I click apply and now it shows me the days where I might close early or might
be closed for good. There's the phone number we have.
We can always change that. There's the website.
So as I click in notice that we have Brian's pizza Tampa,
which is a fake address.
We could have a menu url, so this could be your own menu or if
you're using a service like grubhub or seamless or one of those,
you can pop that into this. So let's just do
seamless.com/Bryanspizzatampa, which again is fake order ahead url.
That might be the same for seamless reservations.
We don't take reservations. Let's click apply.
Now here's something cool and I'm going to tell you,
take the time to do this. In this case,
there's a lot of granularity. There's a lot of minutia and detail,
but putting your menu directly into Google is highly advised.
This is something where if someone's looking for a specific,
like let's say that we're selling subs and someone's looking for an Italian sub
or a chicken Parmesan sub, or they're looking for a specific kind
of pizza like I'm a steak bomb pizza. Then we want to click in here.
We want to add these different sections.
So in this case the section name might be subs and grinders,
or we might do chicken Parmesan sub, and in this case we want to charge $7 95
for it, and then we can write a description.
Delicious Chicken Parm sub ad.
That's how easy it is. So adding these menu items into your,
your Google, my business dashboard is contributing
content to google. If someone's near you and they're
looking or near me and my Brian's pizza, Tampa and they're looking for a chicken
Parmesan sub near me. Guess what?
Because I entered this end, I have a good chance of showing up,
so I highly, highly recommend that you add in those
menu items.
Attributes, attributes is another thing that we,
that Google has added in order to make sure that people can find restaurants or
businesses that that makes sense to them that played to their keywords.
In this case, we have a wheelchair accessible
entrance. We have a parking lot that's wheelchair
accessible. We have a big enough bathroom and we
have wheelchair accessible seating. This would be if someone's typing in
wheelchair accessible restaurant near me.
That's why we want to check these off amenities.
We don't have a bar. We have booster seats.
It's good for kids. We have high chairs,
we have restrooms, and we have free Wifi.
We're family friendly or LGBT friendly dining options.
We have catering, we have delivery,
we have dessert. Dinner,
lunch. You can order ahead.
We have seating. We do not have table service.
We have takeout. No fireplace,
no music, no outdoor seating,
so we're not fancy. We're just the pizza place and I could
be veteran led or women lead. We don't have alcohol.
No. All you can eat.
We don't serve beer. We don't have a Braille menu certified
kosher. We are not.
Don't have a coat checker. Cocktails.
We do serve coffee. You can see gluten free options.
Not at this point. Happy Hour.
No hard cider. Hard liquor?
No. No kids menu?
Yes. Late night food?
Yes. Okay.
To order just coffee. Sure.
Salad bar. No.
Small plates known spicy food. No vegetarian options.
Yes. We're not cash only we can.
We accept American Express, discover visa,
mastercard, debit card,
and we do take apple pay and android or Google pay.
Where lgbtq friendly and transgender safe place.
I've now added all of these attributes to my google,
my business profile. If someone's looking for a specific
restaurant that matches this, so let's say restaurant with free Wifi
near me or a family friendly restaurant. Now that I've added that attribute,
my business has a better chance of showing up,
so that's why you want to make sure you fill out this entire profile at a
business description. Okay.
For time, I'm just going to say come to Brian's
pizza and Tampa. You'll come in hungry and leave overly
satisfied with our delicious
pizzas and subs. The more content you add,
the better. You're allowed up to 750 characters.
I highly recommend you use all the characters you can.
This can be a couple paragraphs. Make sure that you have the same
messaging, the same description that you would have
on social media, like your facebook profile or on your
website. I'll click apply.
Add an opening date, so we opened last year in November.
Don't have to put a day if you don't want to.
There we go. We filled out a lot of the information,
so we're in this info panel. I've put all this information in.
This is looking like a full profile, so notice lastly that we're asked to add
photos. I'll click on add photos.
Now it's telling me I need to verify in order to showcase my business.
I understand that, but I'm going to bring a photo and I'm
going to click on food and drink post photo and I can select a photo so you
can select photos from your computer. I'm just going to select one photo right
now and that's going to be desktop pizza,
so
I have uploaded the photo from my computer.
There is a picture of the pizza that we that we sell.
Here's a recommendation for you.
You want to have at least five to 10 photos when you first build your google
my business profile, five to 10 photos.
This is one. Now I can show pictures of the interior.
Very, very important.
People want to see the seating. They want to see how clean it is.
Show them pictures of the kitchen, of the restroom,
of the dining area, of the Soda Cooler.
I could show them the exterior so that they can see where they're looking.
The parking lot, the front,
the banner, you know the awning of the restaurant.
Of course I just clicked on food and drink and there's my pizza.
I can introduce them to the team such as Brian,
the head pizza chef or the chief pizza officer.
And then other people identity would be the logo and the cover photo.
You want to make sure you upload a logo. So in this case,
I'll just upload the pizza again. Of course that's not my logo.
Notice when you upload a logo, it has to be square,
so I'll cut off the pizza, which really doesn't look good.
We want to make sure we have a square logo and I'll set that logo.
A cover photo shows up at the top of the listing.
We want to make sure we have a good cover photo as well.
So I'll show you how this shows up. Do Pizza again.
The cover photo will automatically resize and be cropped so that it fits
into the cover. So there we have some photos,
obviously the same photos. Don't want to do that.
Make sure you have a square logo and a nice cover photo that tells what you're
doing. So now let's go to posts.
You're going to notice to show your posts on Google search and maps.
You have to verify your business. I understand that,
but I'm going to take you through writing out a post.
So let me click on write a post. Notice there are a few different types
of posts and let me tell you how important posts are.
They're very important. They are mission critical posts,
allow you to create new dynamic content and feed it directly to google and
Google my business and with posts. You're also showing up on the search
engine results page, so showing you an example of a post.
Here's my agency, Brian Caplan,
marketing. I'll scroll down.
Here's a post right here. I want you to notice how much room this
is taking up on the search engine results page.
You're seeing my reviews, you're seeing facebook reviews,
you're seeing snippets of the reviews that I've received,
and then you see my description that I typed in,
and then here is a post and I can see this is a video,
so if I Click on this video,
it shows, it shows a video and I can turn on the
sound if I want it to. It's.
It allows me type in information and I could click to learn more and it brings
me to my website. So from a search engine results page,
I now have an automatic way to capture attention,
to get someone to engage with my brand and ultimately to have them click on
something. So let's go back to Brian's pizza.
In this case with Brian's pizza, we can tell what's new.
So it's just a quick update. Maybe we're having an event like a pizza
eating contest. We can have an offer so it could be a
coupon. Come in and buy a large cheese pizza,
get a large drinker a 20 ounce drink for free.
We can highlight a specific product. So in this case,
let's say that we're going to do just post up that pizza and say we're open
again. I'll click on pizza.
So I've uploaded the image of the pizza and then I could write a post it's cold
outside, and then get a delicious pizza.
Personal Pans are only $7, 99.
Add a button so I can have them order online if they want to.
And the link they can go to again, let's say seamless dotcom slash Brian's
pizza Tampa, and then I would publish.
Now again, these posts are not going to show up
because I'm not verified, but there's an example of the post.
Once a post is created, you could always edit it.
You can click on these. This ellipses right here.
You Click on edit and I can change anything I want.
I could crop the image if I wanted to, which I wouldn't.
In this case. I can also delete the image if I wanted
to and notice if I Click on the ellipses again,
I can delete the post, so if you really messed up you can
delete it now just to take you on a tour of the other things that are available
to you.
Insights will show us a lot of different information about how we're showing up
in search, what people are doing with our posts,
what they're doing with our profile. When we show up in search,
if they're calling us through our Google,
my business profile, if they requesting directions,
if they're clicking to our website, how many photos they're looking at,
how often they're looking at photos, so we get a lot of information from
insights. Very,
very important tool reviews. If someone left us a review for this
business, we will be able to see those reviews.
We'd be able to reply and respond to those reviews,
which is extremely important. Responding to a review is one of the key
things you have to do as a business owner.
Messaging allows us to actually answer questions in real time so we'd be able
to connect our google my business profile with our own mobile phone,
with our smartphone and a customer.
If they found us, could say,
hey, you know,
I need a gluten free pizza. Do you provide that?
It would send right to our phone. So as the business owner,
it would send right to my phone. I'd be able to text back and forth with
the bit with the client or the customer without them knowing my number and I
could answer their questions right away to potentially gain a new customer
within photos. Within the photos tab you can add
videos. So for a pizza place,
I'd want to show videos of us tossing the pizza dough of us topping the pieces
of the great of cheese that we use of US cleaning the kitchen.
So they can see how clean it is. I'd want to do a video tour of the
restaurant so they know exactly what to expect when they walked in,
maybe a video introducing the team, all the people that are,
they're making their pizza friendly, happy and dedicated to a good dining
experience.
You can also add photos of the menu, so if you have a menu,
you can snap a photo and upload it so people can see it right there.
Now bookings, you can use certain booking software and
you'd be able to get people to book a reservation.
In this case, it doesn't make sense,
but you can connect with certain software or certain scheduling software
in order for people to make bookings. I clicked on website and most people
would say, oh no,
I didn't mean to do that. Well,
it's creating a quick website for me that I can change up.
Notice this picture. We've seen it plenty of times.
Brian's pizza pizza restaurant in Tampa. So notice if I click on view menu,
it would bring me to the seamless.com page.
That doesn't really exist. We can change the text.
Brian's pizza and subs, if we want it to pizza restaurant in
Tampa, best pizza in Tampa,
we can add different headers.
We can add a body if we wanted to. We can click order on line now since we
added our menu options, they show up right here and it.
Google's affording us a way to build a website without having to go build a
wordpress website or a squarespace website or any of those.
This is for something. If you're just starting out,
it's a very beginner site. Once you're finished building out the
site, you could click publish.
Now you don't want to click publish and here's a question I get all the time.
Do I want to use the google my business website along with my own website?
No, you don't.
So don't use this website and less. You don't plan on building your own
wordpress or squarespace or wix or weebly website.
So let me get Outta here.
Users. Users is really important because you
might have multiple people and you also only have 24 hours in the day.
You can't spend a lot of time building out your Google,
my business profile, building your business,
collecting bills, paying bills,
doing everything else so you might have other people that you want to add onto
your google my business account. Notice I can click in here.
I'm going to choose my partner Jake, my business partner,
Jake, and I'll do Jacob Burns and I can choose
a role. Jay can be an owner so he can own the
Google my business profile with me. That means he can add other people.
He can manage the profile, respond to reviews,
a meaning that he could do everything but remove or add people.
As users are a site manager, site manager would be able to look at
some of the different content.
They'd be able to write up posts, things like that.
So in this case, I'll add jake as an owner,
I could invite him and that he would be added on.
He'd receive an email invitation saying, jake,
do you want to join Brian's pizza? I won't do that.
So my friends, you've,
I've taken you on a tour of Google my business.
This is a very powerful platform if you are a local business,
whether you have a brick and mortar physical location like a retail store or
a pizza place or a restaurant, or if you're a service based business
and you provide services to your clients and customers around your place of
business, you definitely need a google my business
profile. There's no you know,
maybe it would be good for your business.
It is critical to your business. It's critical to being found when people
need your services or products. So again,

Research 101 Google Scholar - Duration: 4:18.
Welcome to Bakersfield College Grace Van Dyke Bird Library presents Research 101:
Google Scholar.
We recommend that when searching for articles, students begin with the library databases.
But maybe you don't have access for whatever reason or you can't find the full text of
the article you really want.
Try to enter the title of the article you want into a search engine, like Google.
Another tool you can try is Google Scholar.
You can find Google Scholar by typing "scholar" into the search bar or by using the address
http://scholar.google.com.
When searching in Google Scholar, you want your search to be as specific as possible.
For example, If wanting to search for articles about the perception of body image in males,
type in "body image males."
When you get to the results page, you want to see if there is a full-text link posted
to the right of the citation.
If there is no full-text link and you click on the title, you will only see the abstract
of the article.
Getting the article will often cost you money.
DON'T DO THAT!
See if a librarian can find it or find a suitable replacement.
If there is a link posted, clicking on the link will often get you the full text of the
article.
Once here, you can print or save the article.
Here are a couple of other things we can do with the citation.
The star allows you to save the article to "My Library."
Be sure that you are signed in to your Google account.
The quotation marks is for citation.
With all citations, you want to double-check for accuracy before copying and pasting.
The "Cited by" and a number tells you how many times this article has been cited
in other papers.
"Related Articles" will give you articles on the same topic.
"All ___ versions" will show you all of the different versions of this article.
Some articles will also be available as HTML.
This is just another way to view the material.
You can also tell Google Scholar to look for full-text articles in specific libraries,
like ours at Bakersfield College.
Here is how you do it: Go to the three horizontal lines in the top
left corner.
Click "Settings."
Click "Library Links."
Type "Bakersfield College," then click the magnifying glass to search.
Click on the box that says Bakersfield College and click "Save."
When "body image males" is entered again, the results now include full-text articles
available from Bakersfield College.
When you click "Full Text @ BC," you will see links to the article from the college's
databases as well as physical copies we may have.
Remember, try the college's databases first.
If full text is not available, use a search engine for the title of the article you want.
If you must use Google Scholar, look to see that there is a full-text link.
If you need assistance, visit the reference desk or call a reference librarian at 395-4466.
We're here to make the research process easier.
