The Story Of Ninjaboogie - Duration: 7:26.
The dearth of support players and good IGL's from and in the SEA region has been a
major point of concern for teams from the region.
But one name that has
consistently proved capable of handling both the roles like a champion is that of
Ninjaboogie.
Michael "ninjaboogie" Ross Jr. was born in Cebu, Phillippines.
He started playing
competitive esports from the tender age of 12, kicking off his career by playing
Counterstrike before switching to DotA.
He became popular amongst the Filipino
esports community at the World GameMaster Tournament in 2009 after the
young support started to micro all four of his teammates' heroes when they gave up on a game.
International recognition arrived when Ninjaboogie switched to Heroes of Newerth.
He started playing for the Filipino team: DuskBin Esports
and eventually went on to captain them to win a few premier SEA tournaments and became the #1 HON team
in SEA.
Ninjaboogie would come home to Dota 2 on 28th April 2012, when he officially
transferred to captain their new Dota 2 team.
After a failed attempt at the TI2: East Qualifiers,
Ninjaboogie would move on to Neolution Esports where he initially performed well enough
to earn an invite from Valve to the TI3: East Qualifiers.
However, in a shock move, ninjaboogie was removed from the squad just before the
qualifiers costing him his shot at qualifying for TI3.
After a short stint at Execration,
ninjaboogie decided to make his riskiest move yet, moving to Rave in South Korea.
There he played a key part as his team triumphed at the Korea Dota League Season 4 – giving
him his first Major trophy in Dota 2.
Rave's performance at this tournament saw them getting invited for the inaugural Dota 2 Asia Championships.
Despite being coined as underdogs in the tournament, Rave managed to finish in 5-6th place
Unfortunately, the team began to regress and eventually disbanded which lead to ninjaboogie
go back to his hometown team, Mineski.
Even with the arrival of SEA legend Mushi, Mineski and Ninjaboogie failed in their bid to qualify for
The International 7.
Ninjaboogie and Mushi would then team up with yet another SEA superstar:
iceiceice as well as Jabz and Moon to form a reinvigorated Mineski heading into
the 2017-18 DPC season.
The squad went on a tear,
winning every single match in the SEA region
and eventually triumphed at the Bucharest Minor becoming the first ever SEA to win a Minor.
They proceeded to qualify for multiple DPC tournaments one after another.
But they had seemingly lost all momentum.
They weren't looking like the force they were at the beginning of the season.
However, that would all change when Mineski would make a trip to China for the Dota 2 Asia Championships 2018.
There he would make history.
and Ninjaboogie became the first Filipino player to ever win a Valve Major as he lifted up the DAC 2018 trophy.
While the season would eventually end in a disappointing note for ninjaboogie,
as he finished in 12th place at The International 8,
it will definitely be a highlight of his career as he
achieved what many players can only dream of doing.
This season, ninjaboogie took his talents to an all-Filipino team: TNC Predator
where he transformed them to become one of the best SEA teams out there and led them
to a Top 6 finish in the Kuala Lumpur Major and a Top 12 finish in the Chongqing Major.
Unfortunately, he was removed from the team in the middle of the season.
Ninjaboogie has not yet revealed which team he will be playing for next,
but we are sure that a player of his calibre will soon find a new place to call home,
and when he does,
he is going to come back with vengeance to take on SEA
and the world and perhaps even lay a conquest to bring SEA it's first ever Aegis of Champions.

In the last couple of videos, I talked a fair amount about range development. When
we say that we think about high notes, but that's only part of the story, albeit
at a fun one! Let's look at the bigger picture...
Hi, I'm Bryan from Airflow Music. If you're new around here, I'm a trumpet
player and teacher based here in New York City. I set up Airflow Music to
publish some books for brass players, which I continue to do, but I've also
been producing a whole bunch of videos with tips to make brass playing easier
for you. I hope you'll consider subscribing to this channel so you can keep up with
what I'm up to. It's a quick video today as I have to
head out to the airport. By the time you see this, I'll be in Abu Dhabi on a gig
for 10 days. I just wanted to expand on recent topics
a little, while they're still fresh in my mind. Like I said, the last couple of
videos have been geared towards solidifying and improving our upper
registers. I think it's important to remember that, for most musical
applications, we need to play all over the entire range of the instrument.
Therefore, not only do we need to work on all our registers but we also really
need them to be connected; to be ONE range. All too often I see students who have
developed a strong upper register but, because theyve focused on it in
isolation, there's a noticeable embouchure shift as they change
registers, and they struggle to play from low to high or vice versa. There's no
reason why we shouldn't be able to play from the bottom of the horn all the way
to the top and back.
There are all kinds of things you can practice to accomplish this, but one of
my favorites is actually something I wrote. If you've seen my videos before
then you've probably seen these books on the shelf behind me. I have two volumes
of Combination Drills, both with editions for treble and bass clef instruments. The
exercises are fairly simple but they work on a whole combination of musical
and technical skills, hence the name. You get to really work on your scales, so you
can get familiar with different keys and tonalities. You work on different
articulations and maintaining a consistent airflow whether you're
slurring or tonguing. Importantly, they take you all over the range of the horn,
and they do it in such a way that encourages the sort of connectivity
between registers that I'm talking about. I know that lots of my regular viewers
already have one or other of the books so I'd like to encourage you to let us
all know what you like about them in the comments below - and thank you for
checking them out! If you'd like a taster I've shared a few versions of the
Combination Drills exercises which aren't in the books as part of the
Exercise of the Week series of videos. I'll post links to those in the
description below. Of course, if you'd like to get your own copy of Combination
Drills it's available as both a PDF ebook and a printed book from the
Airflow Music online store. I'll post direct links to each edition
in the description below this video. This has ended up being much more of a
shameless plug video than I originally intended so sorry about that but the
fact remains that range connectivity is something we need to consider. I'll be
