"What type of food we should eat

so that our life reaches its full potential

for a college or a school going student" and it's by Spoorthi.

Sadhguru: Oh!

(Laughs) Well,

we must understand this

- food is not a religion, food is not a culture,

food is just a fuel for this machine.

Yes?

There may be cultural aspects to the taste.

There may be even religious tinge to the food

over a period of time

but essentially food is fuel for this body.

So with what kind of food will it function

with minimum struggle within itself

and maximum impact?

So suppose you buy a petrol car

and pump diesel into it, it may still roll around

but not at its optimum.

Similarly, various foods you can eat

and still somehow it functions

but those communities

which have eaten with care,

you can clearly see a distinct difference

in the way they function,

the levels of intelligence and whatever.

So in India, we prescribed food

for different people in different way.

If you are doing menial jobs,

you eat one way because you need physical muscle.

If you are doing other kinds of trading and other kinds of activities,

you eat another way.

If you are a fighting class, you eat differently.

And now if you are into education,

spiritual process and subtler aspects of life,

then you eat differently.

Now that you mentioned students,

I believe you are in education.

Yes?

If you are in education,

one of the greatest challenges is to stay focused on something.

The Goddamn textbook…

I'm sorry (Laughter).

The wonderful textbook (Laughter)

that is written, is written for an average intelligence,

it's a common prescription.

It's not written for the brilliant student.

It is written in a way that it's a common prescription.

Everybody gets it.

But that textbook

how much effort it is taking for a whole lot of people!

How they have to read it ten times to get it

but you lie down in your bed and read a love story,

you remember every word (Laughter).

Yes or no?

How come?

So you don't lack memory, you don't lack focus.

It is just that textbook and you,

chemistry is not working (Laughs).

So what you need is a higher level of focus,

a higher level of involvement and

another great enemy for a student is because this textbook is such a tranquilizer.

The moment you open it (Gestures) (Laughter).

Go to cinema till 2 AM, you are up.

Open the textbook, at 9 o'clock (Gestures)(Laughter).

Right there, you smash into it (Laughs).

So sleep is another big enemy.

So what kind of food do you eat

so there is no inertia in the body?

In yogic way of seeing things,

we are looking at tamas, rajas and sattva.

Tamas means inertia,

rajas means activity but no balance,

sattva means absolutely balanced kind of energy.

When you are in education,

you need a very balanced kind of energy

because you have to focus on something

which doesn't naturally interest you.

It's not something that with which your chemistry is gelling.

If your chemistry is gelling,

you are always focused on that one, isn't it?

Here there is no chemistry,

but you have to focus on that.

For this you need a balance and a steady mind.

For this you need to eat in a certain way.

I will make this very simple

but if you want

I can send you a full-fledged video,

where all of you can see for maybe

forty-five minutes to an hour

- what is food and how it works in your system,

how it relates to your physiology,

why food behaves the way it behaves

and entire system of it.

But to put it very simply,

food goes through your body through the alimentary canal.

From your mouth to your anal outlet, there is a pipe.

Through this it runs,

going through various stages of digestive process.

Many of you are biology people, right ?

It goes through the alimentary canal.

Now it begins with the… the lip.

Here, if you look at this,

all the herbivores and carnivores.

If you look at the animal kingdom,

there are herbivores and carnivores are

two main segments of animals in the world.

One eats vegetable matter, another eats meat.

If you look at the alimentary canal,

the way it is built, between herbivores and carnivores

there's a distinct difference.

Everything in the human being suggests that you are naturally a herbivore

but for the sake of survival we became carnivores.

If you look at the movement,

jaw movement,

all the carnivorous animals have only cutting action,

herbivores have cutting and grinding action.

There are molars

but carnivores don't have widespread molars.

They have just incisors, canines,

everything looks like cutting teeth.

So they do only this.

All the herbivores do grinding.

What do you have?

Both.

So you are supposed to chew your food.

Why you are supposed to chew your food is you have enzymes in your saliva,

where if you take a little bit of raw rice

and put it in your mouth just for a minute,

you will see it turns sweet right here

because right here

carbohydrate is being converted into sugar, right here.

So if you eat properly,

then we say about

thirty to fifty percent of your digestion should happen in your mouth.

So this (Gestures) part of the digestive system is expecting half-digested food or

partially digested food

but right now the way we're eating is mostly

we are putting not only undigested food

but partially destroyed food.

So the amount of food

that you need to get

the same amount of energy has increased.

You are eating much more food than

what you should eat to generate that much of energy.

Because of that,

there is inertia in the body

- because it has to process so much more food

than what it should, there is inertia.

Once there is inertia, your sleep quota increases.

How many hours do you sleep?

Hello?

Eight hours?

You are going by the prescription, hmm?

See, this is not that you must deny yourself sleep,

that's not the point.

But if you eat right

and do a certain things with your body,

you see very effortlessly within three to four weeks,

you can drop your sleep quota

anywhere between two to three hours.

One-and-a-half to three hours very easily

you can drop if you just eat consciously and

just learn to sit properly.

You know?

Just the posture.

Your geometry of the body

and what goes into the system,

if you just manage these two things,

you will see sleep quota will just come down like that.

Just to tell you,

for over twenty-five years,

I have largely managed with an average of two- and-a-half hours of sleep.

Now I am getting lazy

and I am sleeping averaging

somewhere around four-and-a-half hours now

but seven days of the week, okay?

Three-hundred-and-sixty-five days

non-stop on, on, on almost every day.

My daughter didn't call me for a month.

I asked "What the hell is the problem with you,

why are you not calling?"

She said, "Every six hours you are in a new city.

What the hell I am supposed to do?"

I said, "Okay"…which is true (Laughs).

In one day sometimes we are doing three cities.

So it's a non-stop activity

and today

many people around me have learned to do this.

Over a hundred,

hundred-and-fifty people around me are doing this kind of activity

averaging four hours sleep and seven days of the week.

They are on, on, on,

all the time and they are not irritated,

they are not frustrated.

They are joyful and they're wonderful.

Why this is,

is - there are many aspects to this

but one important aspect is food - how you eat.

Not only what you eat,

how you eat is also very important

because food is a live thing.

One simple thing all you girls can do is -

just see various health issues and inertia issue,

focus issue,

just bring forty to fifty percent of the food in its raw form.

That means it's alive, it must be a live cell.

It can be a vegetable, it can be a fruit,

it can be a nut, it can be sprouted gram.

At least forty to fifty percent,

the food that you eat must be alive.

You eat dead food and you want to live -

this is a little difficult thing to do

because you have to raise the dead now (Laughs).

But if you eat live food,

one thing you will see is the state of your mind,

your focus and your sleep quotas

and above all staying awake is not good enough.

You have to stay alert, isn't it?

How alert you are,

how focused you are,

only to that extent

everything yields to you in this world, isn't it so?

What is the level of focus will determine

whether the world yields to you or not, isn't it?

And one more aspect of life,

one more aspect of food is

- when you consume something,

it must of a simple genetic code, in the sense

- it must be a very simple software.

Vegetables, fruits, nuts, sprouts

- they are very simple.

More complicated means

animal food becomes more and more complicated.

Suppose you eat an animal,

which has some amount of emotion

and a life of its own.

Now, the code in that…

We were talking about this,

your body is just an accumulation of memory,

which means a certain software, isn't it?

This is the most complex software

– human software is the most complex software

on the planet of all the creatures.

From an amoeba to this (Referring to oneself),

this is the most complex (Gestures),

I am not talking about her.

She is looking… "oh yes, yes" and she…

(Laughter) This is the most (Gestures)…

This (Gestures) is safe, hmm?

This is the most complex software.

So if you eat an animal,

particularly a mammal

if you eat, it has a similar kind of complexity

- maybe not as complex as this

- similar level of complexity

because it has thought and emotion of its own.

Now for you to

break that code and integrate it into your system,

you are not fully successful.

So it will leave traces of certain qualities within you

otherwise the best food would be eat a human flesh because it's same.

But you cannot break that...

you cannot break that code and

make it a part of yours

because it's a different and complex code.

If you eat a leaf, a vegetable, a fruit,

a nut or a sprout - this is much simpler.

If you must eat non-vegetarian food,

you must eat that which is furtherest away from you.

So generally fish and water life is furtherest away from you.

So, if you must eat non-vegetarian food,

the best thing to eat is

- you have a… you are on the coast (Laughter),

fish is the best thing to eat that way.

Liverpool news: Title race will be over TODAY if Man City do this against Arsenal - Keown - Duration: 2:30.

Liverpool are currently five points clear of Manchester City with 14 games of the season remaining

City are third in the table after Tottenham beat Newcastle on Saturday to go one point clear of Pep Guardiola's side

Newcastle pulled off one of the shocks of the season on Tuesday when they came from behind to beat City 2-1 at St James' Park

City will be looking to bounce back on Sunday when Unai Emery takes his Arsenal side to the Etihad

Keown appeared on Football Focus on Saturday and was asked by presenter Dan Walker: "Pep Guardiola's been saying in the build up to this latest game this weekend that another performance like that and the title's gone for them

"Would you go that far yourself?" Keown agreed with Guardiola, claiming the title will be Liverpool's if City do not perform against Arsenal

"I would, I would," Keown replied.   "It was very strange on the evening [against Newcastle], he was sat there almost with a resigned look on his face, almost passive, Guardiola

"He put the A team out, all the big shots were in there. "Maybe it was fatigue, whether or not there was enough desire, they were too slow in the way that they played

"They scored, perhaps, you could say too early in the match, then got a little bit comfortable

"Credit to Newcastle as well, they were very good with the tactics that they employed

"They tried to keep the scoreline down very low and ultimately won the game. "They made silly mistakes and it seemed to be that the belief was ebbing away from City, handing it to Liverpool

"Of course Liverpool then didn't cash in and they're still back in the race of course

Elon Musk's new company will use genetic engineering to create waifus. - Duration: 2:27.

Talk us through this. What are we looking at here?

What on earth is going on here?

Well, this illustrates the picture of the future that I think is how things will evolve.

Yeah I think it's quite likely that we would want to bioengineer new organisms

Humanity has kind of done that over time

by sort of selective breeding

You know, cows didn't evolve in the wild

but that's a very slow process

requires hundreds of generations

Whereas, I think, with actual bioengineering you could make that happen a lot faster

maybe with more precision

Ideally, long term, although this is a tricky subject, you'd want to write genetics

Meaning, you would want to create synthetic organisms

You know, start with some base and then modify stuff

So, you've started a new company to do this

Okay, but I'm curious whether there is anything you could show us today

I'll show you a teaser shot of the...

It's alive

Okay

No, that's definitely a case where we want to be cautious

We can't see that much of it, but it doesn't look like just a little friendly neighbor

It looks kind of badass.

You've designed this outrageous, this super sexy, exciting thing

Well, visually you can see that's a person

OK, from a really badass picture to a kind of less badass picture

We need to address a global market

Okay

There's a lot of people out there who think you shouldn't be doing that

Why, Elon... because this is like

Why?

I love anime

As one does

Yeah

At least the words were said

Okay

There have to be reasons that you get up in the morning and you want to live

Like, why do you want to live? What's the point?

What inspires you?

But I want to be clear. I'm not trying to be anyone's savior.

I'm just trying to think about the future and not be sad

Thank you for helping us all to dream a bit bigger.

But you'll tell me if it ever starts getting genuinely insane, right?

Thank you, Elon Musk. That was really, really fantastic. That was really fantastic.

Liverpool news: Michael Owen predicts Man City result… This player will score - Duration: 3:31.

But he doesn't think Liverpool's defence will be able to cope with Sergio Aguero

Liverpool currently sit six points clear of Tottenham at the top of the table and could move 10 ahead of Manchester City with a win this evening

**PREDICT FIVE RESULTS AND WIN £25,000 - FREE TO PLAY HERE** But Jurgen Klopp's side have bad memories of playing at the Etihad in the league

Last season saw them suffer a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Guardiola's side with both Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane scoring a double

That win also saw Aguero continue his incredible record of scoring against Liverpool at City's home ground

The Argentine has scored in every league home fixture against the Reds since joining City in 2011

But it is Liverpool who have the overall best record in recent seasons, having won five of their last eight league meetings

The game at Anfield earlier this season ended in a drab 0-0 draw. And Owen expects the same outcome this time around, although he expects a score-draw with Aguero finding the net once again

"City won the corresponding fixture 5-0 last season, but that comprehensive win, following Sadio Mane's red card, is their only win in the last 11 games between the clubs," Owen wrote in his BetVictor column

"I feel Liverpool will maintain their seven-point lead over City in the title-race by picking up a vital point at the Etihad

"Sergio Aguero was back among the goals at St Mary's on Sunday and the striker has scored in all six home league games against Liverpool

"He may continue that sequence against Jurgen Klopp's side, but I still feel the Reds will do enough to get a draw in what promises to be a cracker

"   Liverpool are the only team yet to taste defeat in the top flight this season, and have only dropped points against Chelsea, City and Arsenal

City meanwhile have struggled over the festive period, suffering defeats to Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Leicester

Guardiola laid down the gauntlet to his players this week by stating they must beat Liverpool in order to maintain their title challenge

"We knew it, that with the position of Liverpool, if we drop points, then it (the title race) is over," he said

"It would be almost impossible. Of course, they are going to drop points but not too many

"

Erdogan says he will not turn his back on the Palestinian cause - Daily News - Duration: 11:26.

Turkey's president said today he will use 'all means available to end Israel's occupation in Palestine' at a meeting with Arab deputies of Israel's parliament, the Knesset - shortly before hosting a dinner for King Abdullah II of Jordan

Recep Tayyip Erdogan - whom Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called an 'anti-Semitic dictator' last December - added that he will 'not turn his back on the Palestinian cause'

During the two-hour talks at the Presidential Mansion in Istanbul's Tarabya neighbourhood, Erdogan said: 'We will continue to share all means in our disposal with our brothers,' Turkey's pro-government Daily Sabah reported

Erdogan, whose party has roots in Turkey's Islamist movement, said his aim was to restore peace in the region before thanking the Israeli Arab deputies for 'representing the will of the Palestinian people in Israel's parliament'

The Turkish president regards himself as a champion of the Palestinians and has twice recently held summits of Muslim states to denounce the recognition by the United States of Jerusalem as Israel's capital

But analysts note that behind the rhetoric, economic ties remain strong, with trade robust and both sides interested in the export of Israeli energy resources to Turkey

At the meeting today however, Erdogan, who came to power in 2003, also slammed Israel for ignoring the rights of its Palestinian citizens by adopting 'Jewish state' law

He was referring to a piece of controversial legislation, narrowly approved by the Knesset last July,  that defines the country as the nation-state of the Jewish people, with Hebrew as the only official language

Share this article Share Israel's 1948 declaration of independence defined its nature as a Jewish and democratic state, a delicate balance the country has grappled to maintain for 70 years

Opponents of the July bill said it marginalises the country's Arab minority (known as Israeli Arabs) of around 20 per cent and also downgrades Arabic language from official to 'special' standing

The law passed with a 62-55 backing, with two members of the Knesset abstaining.  Turkey, meanwhile, is in favour of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with East Jerusalem as the capital of an independent Palestinian state

Last May, Turkey told the Israeli ambassador to temporarily leave after Ankara reacted with outrage to the killing of dozens of Palestinians by Israeli troops on the Gaza border, in the worst crisis since a 2016 reconciliation deal

Erdogan hosts King Abdullah II amid increasing tensions between Israel and Jordan Erdogan's pronouncement comes on the same day he hosted a dinner for King Abdullah II of Jordan and his wife, Queen Rania, also at the Tarabya presidential mansion

Tensions between Israel and Jordan have mounted in recent months over such issues as the contested status of Jerusalem and its holy sites, stalled Middle East peace talks, and the shooting of two Jordanian citizens in 2017 by an Israeli embassy guard in Amman, which ignited a diplomatic crisis

Two weeks ago, Israel inaugurated a new international airport near the Red Sea whose location has drawn criticism from neighboring Jordan

The Ramon International Airport opened just north of the southern resort city of Eilat and roughly eight miles from Jordan's Aqaba airport

Jordan contends the Ramon Airport violates international standards regarding respect for airspace and sovereignty as it is situated less than a half-mile from the border

Jordan's complaint with international authorities may stem from concerns that the new airport will draw tourists to Israel and away from Jordan

The new airport is named after Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon, who was killed in the 2003 Columbia space shuttle explosion, and his son Assaf, an Israeli Air Force pilot who died in a training accident in 2009

And last October, Jordan's King announced he would not be renewing parts of his country's landmark peace treaty with Israel

Abdullah released a statement that he intended to pull out of two annexes from the 1994 peace agreement that allowed Israel to lease two small areas, Baqura and Ghamr, from the Jordanians for 25 years

The lands were leased to Jewish farmers early last century, but then became part of Jordan after the kingdom gained independence in 1946

Baqura, in the northern Jordan Valley, was captured by Israel in 1950. Ghamr, near Aqaba in southern Jordan, was seized in the 1967 Mideast War

Under their peace agreement, Jordan agreed to grant Israeli farmers and military officers free access to the enclave

Abdullah said he informed Israel of his decision.Jordan's relations had thawed after Israel replaced its ambassador to Amman and Netanyahu met with Abdullah in summer 2017 to stress the importance of economic and security cooperation between the two countries

Turkey condemns Israel for not renewing monitoring mandate Turkey today also 'strongly' condemned Israel's decision not to renew the mandate of an international monitoring group in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron

'We strongly condemn Israel's unilateral termination of the mandate of the 'Temporary International Presence in Hebron' (TIPH)

and expect this political decision to be reversed,' the Turkish foreign ministry said in a statement late on Friday

The Temporary International Presence in Hebron (TIPH) was established after a massacre of Palestinians in 1994

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday he would not extend its mandate, accusing it of bias

Ankara, however, dismissed the Israeli claim.'We decisively reject the allegation that the TIPH has been working against Israel, which is presented by Israel as a justification for its decision

'In a series of Twitter posts on Saturday, Omer Celik, spokesman for the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), slammed the Israeli move as a 'new step to cover up illegalities' and said it must be condemned

'This Israeli step shows new aggressions are in the planning,' he said, urging the world 'to be more careful' about the situation in Hebron

Turkey has observers in the Norway-led team tasked with promoting security for Palestinians in Hebron, which is holy to both Muslims and Jews and has been a flashpoint in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Palestinian and European officials have also expressed concern and regret over the Israeli decision

Erdogan and Israel: From walking out of Davos to being labelled an 'anti-Semitic dictator' by Netanyahu While Turkey under Erdogan has never completely severed ties with Israel, the Turkish strongman has also never shied away from the strongest criticism

He famously walked out of a January 2009 debate in Davos with then Israeli president Shimon Peres, complaining he was not given enough time to respond and repeatedly saying 'one minute'

And in December, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu labelled Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan an 'anti-Semitic dictator'

Speaking at the time, Netanyahu said the Turkish leader is 'obsessed with Israel' and his military 'slaughters women and children in Kurdish villages

'In turn, Erdogan called Netanyahu an oppressor who commits 'state terror.' It wasn't immediately clear what sparked the spat between the leaders

Israel and Turkey were once close allies. But relations have steadily cooled since Erdogan, whose party has roots in Turkey's Islamist movement, became prime minister in 2003

The exchange came just days after the U.S. announced its withdrawal from Syria, where both Israel and Turkey are involved in the seven-year civil war

In 2017, Erdogan also lashed out at Israel, after Donald Trump decided to recognise Jerusalem as the Jewish state's capital

Israel captured east Jerusalem in the 1967 Middle East war and later annexed it in a move not recognised internationally

The Palestinians want east Jerusalem as the capital of their future state, and viewed the relocation of the embassy as a one-sided move that invalidates the US as a peace broker in the region

Erdogan described Israel at the time as a 'terrorist state' and a 'killer of children' as fresh clashes erupted in the West Bank, Gaza and east Jerusalem

Chelsea fans will love what Hazard has said about Higuain - Duration: 2:59.

Eden Hazard is very confident that Gonzalo Higuain will continue to score more goals for Chelsea after he netted a brace in the 5-0 victory over Huddersfield Town

Unable to find the net last Sunday in the 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup, the Argentine was substituted in the second half of Wednesday's 4-0 thumping at Bournemouth

However, he had no problem finding the net against the Terriers as he scored a fine double

Opening the scoring after a brilliant piece of movement in the first half, Higuain then doubled his tally with a powerful strike from distance to give his new side a 4-0 lead

The ex-Real Madrid man linked up very well with Hazard during the game and fans will be hoping they can carry on their impressive form over the rest of the season

Speaking to Chelsea TV after the victory, Hazard hailed the striker and stated that he will score more goals for Maurizio Sarri's side

"We improve together," he said. "We've trained together now since 10 days.  "He's a great striker

He's a bit less target man than Giroud, but he can hold the ball and play one touches

"He's intelligent and in the box he's unbelievable.  "He will score more goals."  February is going to be an extremely tricky month for Chelsea with games coming up in four competitions

Man City, who the Blues beat 2-0 at the start of December, are next up in the league and the Belgian international is confident his side will score one or two at the Etihad Stadium

"It's going to be a different game than two or three months ago," he added.  "I think they will have the ball

City have these kind of players to play together.  "We will defend well and then we will score one goal or two

And hit that bell icon. Thats very important.

Only then you will get notified of my upcoming videos.

We've reached Manali. But the adventurous part starts here, and from the moment onwards.

The plan is to reach Sarchu from Manali

Because Sarchu is the place where we can get proper food and accommodation as far as we heard.

But lot of unexpected events on the way!!

Life also is like that, right?

If you agree, do COMMENT below as "Life is Unpredictable"

Do we reach Sarchu or not? To find out, watch the video till the end.

Let's GO!

I'm gonna show you how to warm up your hand (when its ice cold).

Take a cloth like this.

And keep it like this.

See the smoke.

Now we're in Manali. Near the permit office.

You need a PUC (Pollution Under Control) certificate and registration papers to apply for permit.

This is to obtain permit for Leh.

We are going to fill this form, and stand in the line now.

In the end, we had to pay a little extra to beat the queue.

The permit will be delivered to our hotel room.

(country music)

(motorcycle thumps)

Come over here.

(breaking snow)

Dhiviya is seeing real snow for the first time in her life.

I could feel that excitement from her.

How would you feel when you see real snow for the first time?

Tell me in the comments below.

Dhiviya: Super..

(chuckles)

Its very bumpy.

Its getting real tough.

But not so much for me. It'll be difficult for the person riding.

The sun has only started to peek.

But it's very cold. I'm wearing gloves myself.

You must come prepared for this ride.

Bring a lot of gloves..

Me: A lot of gloves?

Dhiviya: Sorry, one pair of gloves. But a good one.

Rough roads started just a while after crossing the Rohtang Pass.

There was a small landslide with a bus, whose wheel got stuck.

Till that got cleared, we were stuck there for a while.

Can't really say it that way.

Even that is an experience right?

(people pushing bus and screaming)

Dhiviya: My Leg. My leg's gone.

Me: No problem right?

"I'm going to find myself."

"Self discovery"

You might have heard these things from people going on a trip to similar places.

I understood the real meaning behind those words, in this trip myself.

No people..

No signal for mobile phones, no technology..

Just me and mountains on all four sides..

And a long road in front of me..

It was then that I started talking to myself in silence.

With more of these conversations within me,

a lot of doubts were cleared,

a lot of new ideas were born, the mind became clear.

(Sigh).. I guess that's whats called Self Discovery after all.

Next fuelling station, 365 Kms ahead.

(I don't know how to translate this part)

We have dried our shoes here, in the petrol bunk.

Dhiviya has gone to re-fill water.

A place called JISPA. We could only reach upto this place.

The path after Jispa is more rugged,

and moreover it was getting dark.

Because of that the water flow would be more in the water crossings.

Keeping all that in mind, we decided to stay at Jispa.

So, we found a place to put our tent, and camped there till next morning.

We would start towards Sarchu next day.

The ride from Manali to Jispa was kind of pleasant.

But it's not going to be like this after Jispa.

Thats going to be in the next video. So, definitely subscribe to this channel.

I'll see you in the next video. Till then, see you tata bye.

Dhiviya: an amazing snowfall...

How Will Democrats React to a More Conservative Supreme Court?(updated) - Duration: 6:00.

After Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, it is possible for President Donald Trump to

nominate a third Supreme Court justice during his presidency.

The 85-year-old Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is currently recovering from lung

cancer surgery.

She was absent from oral argument on January 7th for the first time in her 25-year career

on the court.

She participated in deciding the two cases being argued by reading legal briefs and transcripts

of the oral arguments.

Ginsburg is the leader of the court's liberal faction.

She spent a considerable part of her legal career as an advocate for the advancement

of gender equality and women's rights, winning multiple victories arguing before the Supreme

Court.

She advocated as a volunteer lawyer for the American Civil Liberties Union and was a member

of its board of directors and one of its general counsels in the 1970s.

During Barack Obama's presidency, some progressive lawyers and activists called for Ginsburg

to retire so that Obama would be able to appoint a like-minded successor, particularly while

the Democratic Party held control of the U.S. Senate.

Ginsburg rejected these pleas.

If President Trump will be able to appoint another conservative Supreme Court justice,

how will that affect national politics?

Here is the rest of my discussion with Thomas Reston.

Ever since the 1950s, the Supreme Court has had a liberal majority.

Now with the confirmation of Justice Gorsuch and Justice Kavanaugh, that situation is changing.

Now with the possible replacement of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the Democratic Party

will lose a reliable left-leaning Supreme Court.

How will they react?

I don't regard the Supreme Court now as a left-wing Supreme Court.

But I think that you are correct that for a period during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s,

there was a majority on the Supreme Court which was very sympathetic to the forces of

reform in American society and exercised the power of the court in a very robust way to

assist the forces of reform in America.

And I think that liberals in this country sort of got used to thinking in their own

minds that the court was a reliable ally and that sometimes liberals might be able to get—that

they thought they might be able to get their way even if the people didn't agree with

them or the representatives of the people in Congress didn't agree with them if they

could simply go to the courts and win legal cases in the court which would get them the

same result.

I think now that the Supreme Court is getting much more conservative, and I think the Supreme

Court has been reliably conservative for some time, but now it will become extremely conservative,

and there won't be much ambiguity about who has the power on the court now.

I think that it behooves the liberals and the Democrats to renew their ties to the American

people and to use the elective power of the people as a way to advance the reform agenda.

So you think this is actually an opportunity for the Democratic Party to search for its

soul, if you will, and be connected with the American people again?

I do indeed.

I do indeed.

It's not that I am opposed to using the courts for advancing or certainly using the

law to help people in this society.

I have been the chairman of the board of the Mexican American Legal Defense Fund, MALDEF,

a couple of times.

And they stand up for the rights of Latinos here in the United States.

It's headquartered in Los Angeles.

So I am proud that the work that civil rights leaders do in our courts.

But I do think, as a political matter, the Democratic Party needs--this is an opportunity

for the Democratic Party to renew its very close ties deep into the American people.

And that is part of what I mean in my book when I'm talking about regaining the soul,

as the Democratic Party regaining its own soul.

Do you think the establishment of the Democratic Party will do that?

Well, I think they're going to need to because the numbers don't add up for the Democrats

anymore.

The reality is that the country is sort of evenly divided politically.

And the last election, while the Democrats registered major gains, it was not the sort

of "hand of God" type of election that just swept the conservatives out all across

the board.

I think the election revealed that the American people are still deeply divided.

And what the Democratic Party needs to do, instead of just trying to mobilize more of

its current supporters, it needs to look for ways to move beyond its current base and back

into the middle and back, in fact, into the Republican—into large groups of the American

people who are now voting Republican who at one time were reliable Democratic voters.

The white working class in this country, after all, is the heart of Franklin Roosevelt's

New Deal coalition.

Arsenal fans will love what Aubameyang has said about his iconic celebration - Duration: 3:17.

Arsenal fans may not have to wait much longer before they see Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's iconic superhero mask celebration at the Emirates

The Gabon international has scored goals for fun since his move from Borussia Dortmund 12 months ago and he already has 18 in all competitions this campaign

Aubameyang can often be seen celebrating with Alexandre Lacazette when he has found the back of the net for the Gunners, while he has also celebrated with a somersault a number of times over the past year

However, what Arsenal fans really want to see is the striker's iconic mask celebration that he first displayed during his time at Saint-Etienne

Wearing a Spiderman mask to celebrate scoring for the French side, the striker also did likewise during his time at Borussia Dortmund

If wearing a Spiderman mask wasn't good enough for Dortmund fans, he then joined forces with Marco Reus as the pair wore Batman and Robin masks to celebrate a goal in the win over rivals Schalke

Asked by a fan on Twitter why he hasn't celebrated with a mask during his time at Arsenal, Aubameyang dropped the biggest hint yet that the celebration could be about to make a big return

"Be patient," he replied along with a winking emoji.  Speaking to Arsenal's website last April, the ex-AC Milan man opened up on why he celebrated with a mask during his time at Saint-Etienne and Dortmund

"The very first time I put a mask on, it was Spiderman when I was at Saint-Etienne," he told Arsenal Player

"It was a tribute to a goalkeeper at the club, Jeremie Janot.    "When I was younger he came out on to the pitch in the full Spiderman suit and played in goal

It was crazy!  "On his birthday, I put the mask on to celebrate that. The second time, it was my son's birthday, when I was playing for Dortmund

I did Batman and Robin with Marco Reus against Schalke in the derby.  "There are others [for fans to see], for sure

Don't worry about that! Of course after a few goals, I'll share some nice celebrations with the fans
