Mahrez wanted deadline day Old Trafford move but Leicester never received any bids for wantaway star

LEICESTER star Riyad Mahrez was reportedly hoping to join Manchester United on transfer deadline day. The Daily Star claims the winger left Algeria's World Cup squad in the hopes of securing a dream move to Old Trafford.

Riyad Mahrez was hoping to join Manchester United on deadline day.

The winger left Algerias World Cup squad to force through a move. Mahrez was strongly linked with the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal during the transfer window.

But his representatives were apparently angling for a United switch after Jose Mourinho's move for Ivan Perisic failed to materialise.

Mahrez was aware that the Special One was hunting for an out-and-out winger in his bid to create a squad worthy of winning the title.

But Leicester didn't receive any bids for the former Premier League Player of the Year, instead selling Danny Drinkwater to Chelsea for £35million. The only club to bid for Mahrez over the summer was Roma, who offered £31milion at one stage.

However, the Foxes rejected the figure and demanded an eye-watering £50milion for their key man.

It was well known that Jose Mourinho was looking to sign a winger.

United came close to landing Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan . Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain were also linked, with Mahrez spotted in the French capital earlier in the week.

But he will now be staying put with Leicester until January at least, although it remains unclear whether he will continue to seek a move away from the King Power Stadium.

Leicester didnt receive a single bid for Mahrez on deadline day.

Mahrez will now remain with Leicester until at least January.

Dean Unglert Will Not Be the Next Bachelor But Can They Just Make the Announcement Already - Duration: 2:39.

Dean Unglert Will Not Be the Next Bachelor (But Can They Just Make the Announcement Already

Another day, another story about who will be the next Bachelor.

As Bachelor in Paradise comes to a dramatic end, fans are still asking one question: Will

Daniel Maguire and Lacey Mark get engaged?!

LOL, just kidding.

Everyone wants to know who will be the next Bachelor, and franchise creator Mike Fleiss

is just LOVING the endless speculation, using his Twitter account to fan the flames and

tease fans about the impending announcement.

And on Tuesday, Fleiss took one major contender out of the running: The Bachelorette fan-favorite

Dean Unglert, whose had less of a beloved turn on Bachelor in Paradise this season.

(Anyone else have whiplash from how fast that tide turned?)

"Dean will not be #TheBachelor this year, at least...," Fleiss wrote.

(Everyone watching BIP this season: No s--t.)

Given his romantic situation (or s--tshow, whichever term you prefer on Paradise, with

Dean unable to decide between Kristina Schulman and Danielle Lombard, it's not too surprising

the 26-year-old from Rachel Lindsay's season won't be handing out the roses in season 22.

Also, Dean told E! News he didn't feel ready to be the Bachelor.

"I just don't think I'm ready for it," Dean admitted to us.

"I just think that from an emotional standpoint I need to figure out a lot more about myself

before I dive in and be the lead of anything.

I think I have a ways to go before I'm ready for something like that."

Still, he said he would consider it in the future, something Fleiss seems to think is

a possibility as well.

(We're SO down for Dean as Bachelor in a year or two.)

ther clues offered up by Fleiss on social media?

The next leading man will not be from JoJo Fletcher's season (Smell ya later, current

Bachelor in Paradise bartender/fan-fave Wells Adams!), nor will it be reigning Bach Nick

Viall, who recently ended his engagement to Vanessa Grimaldi.

Oh, and "rest easy," Fleiss tweeted, as Whaboom is not in the running.

Phew.

So who is going to be the next Bach?

Sources tell E! News it's just a matter of time before Peter Kraus, Rachel's runner-up,

is announced (Despite Fleiss' cryptic tweets alluding to Peter's hesitance to propose being

a major issue).

Wayne and Coleen Rooney's marriage is on the rocks – but Dear Deidre is here to reveal .. - Duration: 4:12.

Wayne and Coleen Rooney's marriage is on the rocks – but Dear Deidre is here to reveal where they can go from here

WAYNE and Coleen Rooney's marriage is rocking but we have just the woman to save them. Sun Agony Aunt Deidre Sanders always has the best advice – and here she is to help.

Happier times – the Rooney family posing for a photo while on holiday.

Wayne, Coleen and Kai celebrate after the Barclays Premier League match between Manchester United and Swansea City at Old Trafford on in May 2013. Deidre casts an eye over the pair's turbulent past and answers their imaginary letters.

From the footballer's early romps with ageing prostitutes to his latest indiscretion while drunk in a car, there is lots for Deidre to sort out. So should Coleen give Wayne another chance?.

I cant stop cheating on my childhood sweetheart. We met as teenagers, married and now have three wonderful sons – with another baby on the way.

But now I'm successful, women keep throwing themselves at me – and I'm almost powerless to say no. My girl has always stood by me in the past but this time I've gone too far. How can I win her back?.

DEIDRE SAYS: YOU have been an idiot but you have a massive factor in your favour – your sons and the baby on the way.

Your missus may be furious but if you have a good relationship with your boys, she will find it hard to disrupt that. For now just keep apologising and don't make the mistake of trying to find any excuse for your behaviour.

None will wash and you will just wind her up even further. But I bet you've apologised before, and yet here you've gone and done something to wind her up and risk your relationship all over again.

How can she know to believe you this time?.

I know the word "therapy" can give a guy like you the cold shivers but you've got to find some way to convince your wife that this really is the last time you let her down.

My leaflet Find It Hard To Be Faithful? explains what can lie behind behaviour like yours – apart from too much alcohol and too little sense – and where to get help.

The Rooneys on holiday earlier this year.

Rooney pictured with fan Jack McIver in The Bubble Room.

Wayne returns home today after being charged with drink driving on Thursday night.

Laura Simpson is back behind the wheel of her WV Beetle after the events of Thursday night with Wayne Rooney.

MY man was caught drunk and in a suspicious position with another girl – and now everyone is laughing at me. He has strayed before and I forgave him, but I told him if he ever did it again I would walk.

I'm torn because I'm pregnant with our fourth child and I want to keep our family together. But I can't bear to feel humiliated again. What should I do?.

DEIDRE SAYS:  BELIEVE me, no one is laughing at you. Nearly two out of three men cheat at some point so millions of women know just how you feel.

And blokes are probably chuckling at your hubby being so daft when drunk rather than pointing fingers at you.

Of course you want to keep your family together and I bet the boys would be devastated if their dad was forced to leave home. But enough is enough too, and your husband has let you down before.

Tell him his only way back is to sound sincerely sorry and to look at the issues which led to him letting you both down.

Is it just alcohol? Was there already some tension between you at home which needs tackling? Or is it just the vanity of a guy who wasn't the best-looking lad at school but now finds he is a babe magnet?.

Whatever it is, he needs to face up to it and take adult control of his behaviour. If he'll do that, the two of you working together can save your marriage and family life.

My leaflet Cheating – Can You Get Over It? explains how.

Should Coleen give Wayne another chance?.

Dallas Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott has six-game suspension upheld but is to play Sunday - Duration: 2:41.

The NFL's six-game suspension of Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott was upheld Tuesday by a league-appointed arbitrator. But Elliott remained

eligible to play in the Cowboys' season-opening game this weekend as the focus of the case shifted to the courtroom and another legal showdown over a disciplinary measure already underway between the league and the players' union.

Attorneys for the league said in federal court in Texas that Elliott will be eligible to play for the Cowboys against the New York Giants in Sunday night's nationally televised opener in Arlington, Tex. The court is set to rule by Friday

on a request by the NFL Players Association for a temporary restraining order that would keep the suspension on hold beyond this weekend. So, as things currently stand, Elliott's six-game suspension would begin in Week 2 of the season, pending the court's ruling.

Harold Henderson, the former labor-relations executive for the league who was assigned by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to hear and resolve Elliott's appeal, rejected it and reaffirmed the suspension imposed by Goodell under the sport's personal conduct policy.

We received Arbitrator Harold Henderson's decision to uphold Mr. Elliott's suspension of six games," said a written statement released by Elliott's attorneys Tuesday night. "We are extremely disappointed with Mr. Henderson's inability to navigate through league politics, and follow the evidence and, most importantly, his [conscience].

The evidence that Mr. Elliott and his team presented on appeal clearly demonstrated that Mr. Elliott was the victim of a conspiracy orchestrated by the National Football League and its officers to keep exonerating evidence from

the decision-makers, including the advisors and Roger Goodell. The only just decision was to overturn the suspension in its entirety. Mr. Elliott is looking forward to having his day in federal court where the playing field will be level and the NFL will have to answer for its unfair and unjust practices.

The league declined further comment Tuesday night, saying through a spokesman that Henderson's ruling spoke for itself. The NFLPA did not immediately respond to a request for further comment.

Henderson wrote in his ruling that it is "not the responsibility, nor within the authority of, the Hearing Officer to conduct a de novo review of the case and second guess his decision." The investigatory and disciplinary processes

followed by the league in the case were fair, consistent and in compliance with the personal conduct policy "in every respect," Henderson wrote.

Here the process for imposing discipline outlined in the Policy has been followed closely, step by step," Henderson wrote in his ruling. "I find it unnecessary to reexamine all the evidence presented in this record because my

careful and diligent review of everything the Commissioner reviewed and relied on draws me to the conclusion that the record contains sufficient credible evidence to support whatever determinations he made. He is entitled to

deference on those judgments absent irregularities not present here. While the record contains inconsistencies in statements, an adjudicator makes informed judgments on the credibility of witnesses and evidence."

If the suspension stands, Elliott would play the opener and then miss games against the Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins. He would be eligible to return for a Nov. 5 game at home against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Two people familiar with the NFL's inner workings had said earlier Tuesday that the league did not regard 4 p.m. Tuesday as the deadline by which Elliott's appeal had to be resolved for his suspension to take effect this week. That is the generally followed practice in such disciplinary matters, but it is not a formal rule.

The league reversed course in court later Tuesday, however, and said it would allow Elliott to play this weekend. U.S. District Judge Amos L. Mazzant III is set to make his ruling by Friday evening. If Mazzant grants the request for a temporary restraining order, Elliott would remain eligible to play while his case is pending.

Elliott was the NFL's leading rusher last season as a rookie, and the Cowboys' Super Bowl aspirations for this season are tied largely to the on-field brilliance of Elliott and second-year quarterback Dak Prescott. Cowboys owner Jerry

Jones has been publicly supportive of Elliott, saying repeatedly he believes there is no evidence Elliott is guilty of domestic violence and that a suspension is not warranted

Hurricane Irma shaping to be a perfect - but 'potentially catastrophic' - stormNews - Duration: 10:21.

Hurricane Irma shaping to be a perfect - but 'potentially catastrophic' - storm

One of the most powerful hurricanes to develop in the Atlantic basin is shaping up to be a perfect but potentially catastrophic storm as it remains on course to hit the US state of Florida by Sunday.

Phil Klotzbach, an atmospheric research scientist at Colorado State University said the descriptor of hurricane Irma as perfect was fair given its huge size and shape.

Storms dont get much more impressive on satellite than Irma right now, Dr Klotzback told Fairfax Media. Thats the hurricane paradox - so amazingly beautiful from afar and so terrorising if youre in one..

Irma has already begun to challenge the record books as it intensified on Tuesday, local time, into a category 5 hurricane with sustained winds reaching 185 miles per hour (297 km/h).

The storm is the strongest Atlantic storm to exist outside of the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, and is within about 10 mph of the most potent cyclones - both typhoons in the north-west Pacific - ever recorded.

The speeds are at the top end of the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale, and are above the 180-mph range that has previously prompted calls for a category 6 rating.

The distinction, though, would likely be lost on populations lying in the wake of the storm given the potential for severe damage to buildings -and their occupants - from sustained wind speeds that exceed 250 km/h.

On Wednesday, it was the Caribbean island of Barbuda which was hit first. The US National Weather Service was warning of life-threatening wind, storm surge and rainfall hazards for northern Leeward Islands and the US territory of Puerto Rico.

The hurricane could become extremely dangerous for the Bahamas and Cuba later in the week.

Current projections indicating Irma will hit the Florida Keys and part of the Florida Peninsula by the weekend, the NWS said. (See NWS chart below as of 11 pm, local time Tuesday (1pm AEST).).

Unprecedented.

For the US, the prospect of another big hurricane could hardly come at a worse time as authorities continue recovery efforts of massive flooding to Houston and nearby regions of Texas and Louisiana from category 4-strength Harvey.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday declared an emergency for Florida to lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe in all 67 counties in the state.

US President Donald Trump declared an emergency for Florida. Low-lying coastal regions will not only be exposed to severe winds but also the expected storm surge in areas already subject to regular floods as sea levels continue to rise with climate change.

Antigua and Barbuda are first in line to experience the wrath of Cat. 5 #Irma - the strongest storm to impact Leeward Islands on record. pic.twitter.com/y2QNcbDTmr — Philip Klotzbach (@philklotzbach) September 5, 2017.

While uncertainty remains about the course of Irma and its strength, if the storm hit the continental US as a category 4 or higher event, it would be unprecedented, Dr Klotzbach said.

Weve actually never had two Cat 4s make landfall in the United States in the same year, he said.

Meteorologists were among those surprised by the ferocity of Irma, which preliminary readings suggested it had exceeded its maximum potential intensity given the conditions.

Wow. Hurricane #Irma is now expected to *exceed* the theoretical maximum intensity for a storm in its environment. https://t.co/e4hPjQt159 — Eric Holthaus (@EricHolthaus) September 5, 2017.

Kevin Walsh, a cyclone researcher at the University of Melbournes School of Earth Sciences, cautioned that the potential intensity theory is incomplete in the sense that it might not be 100 per cent accurate under all circumstances.

Dr Klotzbach said that several other storms had exceeded their maximum potential intensity: Its not common but it does happen. Professor Walsh said that with the right conditions it was possible for a basin to spawn several cyclones simultaneously.

He noted US research showing the Atlantic has had as many as four hurricanes spinning at the same time twice - in 1893 and 1998.

The severity of the twin hurricanes is likely to fan further debate about the role of climate change.

Research published in 2015 by researchers including Professor Walsh and Dr Klotzbach found climate models mostly continue to predict future decreases in global [tropical cyclone] numbers, projected increases in the intensities of the strongest storms and increased rainfall rates.

Sea level rise will likely contribute toward increased storm surge risk, the researchers found. Dr Klotzbach said that the US had seen a long-term decline in the number of hurricanes making landfall in the US (see chart below).

But that trend was nothing to be complacent about.

Really the key point here is that in general, weve been riding an amazing streak of luck the past 11 years, he said. We went 31 major hurricanes in the Atlantic without a US landfall.

The odds of that were well over 1:1000..

World Meteorological Organization experts, meanwhile, have also weighed into the debate, saying that will there is no clear evidence that climate change has made slow moving hurricanes such as Harvey more or less likely in the Houston region, some ingredients of the event may have linkages to climate change.

[T]he rainfall rates associated with Harvey were likely made more intense by anthropogenic climate change, the WMO said.

This is a consequence of the tropical atmosphere generally holding more water vapor due to climate warming, or about 7 per cent more water vapor per degree celsius of sea surface temperature increase.

Sampaoli laments misfiring Argentina but praises Messi | FOOTBAL NEWS - Duration: 2:48.

Jorge Sampaoli said Argentina let a big opportunity slip against Venezuela in their faltering bid for World Cup qualification, though he did praise star Lionel Messi.

It was another frustrating outing for Sampaoli and Argentina, who were held to a 1-1 draw by lowly Venezuela in CONMEBOL action on Tuesday.

A dominant display in Buenos Aires only yielded a point as Rolf Feltschers own goal cancelled out Jhon Murillos opener and rescued a draw for Argentina.

Back-to-back stalemates during the international break have left Argentina barely in fifth position – the play-off spot – with Chile and Paraguay lurking ominously, and Sampaoli knows his side must start making the most of their opportunities as he searches for his first competitive victory since replacing Edgardo Bauza in June.

We let a big chance pass but this is football and you know that these things can happen and especially when you have chances at goal and you do not take them, Sampaoli said.

I hope that this discomfort that the team is going through will not confuse us or block us for the future.

Now we have to go out and play Peru [in October] in the same way as against Venezuela to be closer to qualifying.

Things are more complicated for us because we thought we would be in a better position after the two matchdays. But we are going with two points in the two games in which we had superiority but we could not capitalise..

Sampaoli, who confirmed Angel Di Maria suffered a muscle injury, added: Messi was above the rest. He took charge of the game in several moments.. Argentinas CONMEBOL campaign concludes next month with fixtures against fourth-placed Peru and Ecuador.
