How To Revitalize your Old YouTube Videos - Duration: 6:14.
- If you've been making videos for any length of time,
you're probably like me in that you have
a lot of videos just sitting on your channel,
they're not getting any more views,
they're just flat, they're dead.
Today I wanted to share with you guys
a few tips and ideas of how you can maybe
revitalize some of those videos
and breathe new life into them again
so that they start growing and getting more views
and getting more exposure for your channel.

Hey guys my name is Tim Schmoyer,
and welcome to Video Creators.
This channel is all about helping you guys
grow your YouTube audience so you can spread a message
that reaches people and changes their lives.
And today's question actually comes from a patron
here at Video Creators,
one of the awesome people who are supporting this,
making this possible.
And this question that comes from them,
SixMiffedy wrote and asked this.
Hey Tim I was wondering if you've ever done a video
on what YouTubers should be looking for
and the actions they should be doing
when revisiting their old videos
and trying to optimize them to perform better?
If it's in one of your courses, let me know
which one it is,
as I get traffic to my older videos
and some of them rank pretty well,
but I was just wondering if they could be doing doing better
and what I should be looking to change or improve, thanks.
Great question and thank you so much for being a patron,
really appreciate you supporting this
and just love hanging out with all you patron people
in general every month and all of our stuff
that we do over on Patreon outside of this channel.
It's been awesome.
So to answer your question,
the first thing that I would do is just
go back and find the videos that are no longer performing.
That is very important because
I never ever ever wanna do any mass sweeping changes
across my entire channel in bulk all at once
or anything like that because the videos that are,
that are performing,
like I don't wanna mess those up.
I don't wanna touch them, I don't wanna change anything,
like let those go.
Because what happens is when you do change
some of these things we're gonna talk about,
it does cause something in Google to kinda re-look,
look at that video differently.
It causes other people who are maybe reading
a different title now maybe to react differently
to the content when they click on it and watch it.
Like Google's gonna get different viewer signals,
and they're gonna reevaluate the video.
So that could actually take your videos
that are performing well and make them perform worse.
So only do what we're about to say
on the videos that are just flat, they're dead,
and you feel like this video has so much more potential.
How can I get this thing growing?
Those are the types of videos we're talking about.
The first thing I would do is one,
just re-watch that video and pay attention
to the first 15 to 20 seconds of that video.
What is that opening hook in that content like?
Is it strong?
Is it related to the title that the video currently has?
Is it related to the thumbnail the video currently has?
And if it's not,
then yes you wanna go make a new thumbnail
and make craft a new title for that video.
After you've made a new title and a new thumbnail
for that video,
those are the two most important things,
I would also though recommend that you look
at the description text of that video.
And especially that opening line,
that opening paragraph.
Like what are the first few sentences that you open
it up with?
Maybe you think okay like there's some better
keywords I can use here,
and you're not gonna write a you know
just keyword rich.
You're going to keep some of the keywords in mind
that are relevant for that content,
but just write them out in normal conversational English.
Give it a good solid three, four, five, six sentences,
like a good paragraph or so,
that pitches and describes the content of that video.
So go ahead, rewrite that,
and then the next thing I would do is reevaluate
the tags that you're using in that.
Some of them might be really strong,
might be really weak, maybe you're only using like
one or two, maybe you wanna add like five, six other ones.
It doesn't matter as much,
just as long as you're changing it
and you're hope, you're trying to make it better.
You're looking for where are the areas of opportunity
that I might have missed the first time
that I you know originally published this video?
If the video is really old,
I would also make sure that it has interactive cards on it.
Maybe you're gonna look at the audience retention graphs
and look for that dip.
If there's a dip that occurs,
put an interactive card, maybe a few seconds before
that dip happens to try to get that viewer
who's about to abandon your video
to go on to another video instead
and extend that viewing session.
Make sure you have those endscreen elements on it.
Make sure the whole video itself is following
all those best practices.
Once you've done all of that,
then don't touch it for awhile.
There's no hard and fast rule on this,
but personally I give it like six months.
I would say, don't change it again
for at least three months because it's gonna take Google
a little while to kinda like figure out,
okay some things have changed on this video,
let's reevaluate some stuff with this video.
It's gonna give other people who do find that video
different places some time to give Google
some different signals about that video.
So it's not gonna happen like overnight.
It's gonna probably take a little while
for this thing to pick up some steam again.
Now the best thing you can do as you're going back
over all this older content
is to learn how to not repeat some of those same mistakes
again in your future videos.

each step of the process into creating content
and designing and optimizing your channel
to be as highly subscribable as possible,

that you need to do right then and there that day
on your channel.

to really make that channel grow.
