Hello my name is Michael Werner and I'm the Project Scientist for the Spitzer Space
Telescope. I've been asked to answer the question – "Can we talk with Spitzer as
long as we've talked to Voyager - which is 40 years - and where will Spitzer be in
a 100 years?" The short answer to that question is in principle we could talk to Spitzer after
40 years but it is unlikely that we will be able to do so. This is sort of illustrated
by this picture which shows the orbit of Spitzer and this is the Earth, this is the Sun, and
with time relative to the Earth, Spitzer has been drifting away and right now it is out
about here. So from this picture we can see that it will take about 50 years for Spitzer
to go all the way around but right at the moment we're only planning to continue to
communicate with it for maybe 3 or 4 more years at which point as Spitzer continues
to move we're going to kind of lose track of where it is, and wouldn't quite know
where to look when we wanted to recover it and talk to it 40 years from now. In addition
we're not totally confident that the hardware on Spitzer will survive that long in the harsh
space environment, although Voyager of course has in fact survived for 40 years. For the
second part of the question - Where will Spitzer be in 100 years? It takes it about 50 years
to go around this circle so in 50 years it'll come back close to the Earth and then in another
50 years it'll be close to the Earth again, but as I said I don't think we will be talking
to it then. So I think our best strategy is to work well with Spitzer until the mission
comes to an end in the next 4 or 5 years and then wish her adieu and farewell as she continues
to orbit the Sun just as the Earth does. Thank you.

Finance minister says gov't will clarify scope of regular wages - Duration: 1:40.
A court decided to award some 3-hundred-70 million dollars in back pay to workers at
Kia Motors.
The dispute was over what forms of compensation are considered part of an employee's basic
pay.
The case prompted the nation's Finance Minister to remind the government it's time to change
the law and settle wage-related issues.
Lee Jeong-yeon has the details.
Speaking at an economic meeting on Friday, South Korea's Finance Minister Kim Dong-yeon
said the government will push to revise the current labor law.
(Korean) "The government will make further efforts
to ensure there will be no more unnecessary disputes between firms and labor workers over
wage-related matters.
For a more fundamental solution, the government will work towards revising the Labor Standards
Act by clarifying the legal scope of what constitutes ordinary wages."
This comes after the Seoul Central District Court ruled on Thursday that fixed bonuses
fall under the scope of ordinary wages... as demanded by the Kia Motors labor union.
Kia Motors, South Korea's second-largest carmaker, was ordered to pay an overdue amount of some
370-million US dollars to the workers.
Currently in South Korea, employees receive a lump-sum bonus on top of their regular salary
on a fixed basis.
Companies argue that if these fixed bonuses were to be included in ordinary wages, they
would incur a heavier financial burden ... as other benefits and allowances would have to
be readjusted accordingly.
Whether parliament will pass the proposed revision is yet unclear... as the ruling party
will need cooperation from opposition parties to pass the bill.

[Breaking News] Storm Irma : Will it affect the US? - Duration: 1:53.
Irma may become major hurricane while tracking across Atlantic; Will it affect the US?
While the Gulf Coast continues to deal with the devastating impacts of Harvey, emergency
managers in the United States have another tropical threat to monitor by the name of
Irma.
Far across the Atlantic, just west of the Cabo Verde Islands, Irma has strengthened
into a Category 2 hurricane as of Thursday midday.
Irma became a tropical storm at midday on Wednesday.
"There is the potential for Irma to ramp up to a powerful hurricane in the coming days,"
according to AccuWeather Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski.
"Irma is likely to become a major hurricane well before it reaches the Lesser Anteilles,"
Kottlowski said.
Irma will take about a week for the system to make its trek westward across the Atlantic
Ocean.
Meteorologists will likely be tracking this storm through the middle of September.
"All interests in the eastern Caribbean will need to monitor the progress of this evolving
and likely dangerous tropical cyclone," Kottlowski said.
"It is way too soon to say with certainty where and if this system will impact the U.S."
During this time, plenty of atmospheric factors will come into play to determine its path.
Possibilities range from a landfall on the Leeward Islands in the northeastern Caribbean
to the Carolinas and the island nation of Bermuda - and everything in between.
"Steering winds will guide Irma close to the Leeward Islands and then perhaps Puerto
Rico and Hispaniola around the middle of next week," according to AccuWeather Meteorologist
Brian Thompson.
Conditions are favorable for tropical development throughout the central Atlantic, heightening
the threat of significant strengthening as this system approaches the U.S.

Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group issued a statement earlier this month insisting they would not sell the Brazilian. Coutinho then handed in a transfer request, which was quickly rejected by Anfield bosses.
Barcelona have had a number of bids rejected and are now looking at other options including Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann and Monaco winger Thomas Lemar.
But Catalonia-based publication Mundo Deportivo report that Coutinho remains their Plan A. And Lemar could play a crucial role in his future, with Liverpool interested in signing the Monaco star.
Liverpool fancy snapping up Lemar before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm tonight.
And, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are convinced the Reds will sell Coutinho if Lemar completes a move to Anfield. La Liga clubs have an extra day to complete their transfer business.
Barcelona have already signed Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund as a replacement for Neymar.
