The Man Behind World-famous Badminton Players
My name is Aubdul Aunampai.
I received a bachelor and a master degree
from the College of Sports Science and Technology, Mahidol University.
College of Sports Science and Technology, Mahidol University,
has a mission to produce sports scientists
to support and develop national athletes
by combining sports sciences with the techniques of each sport.
Sports science covers many different fields.
For example, physiology looks at how to be physically healthy
and be the best a human can be.
Sports biomechanics examines different techniques
that provide mechanical advantages in a competition,
such as how to perform better using less energy.
One of the most important fields is sports psychology.
A talented, hard-working, healthy athlete
but who are disheartened, stressful or nervous
cannot realize his or her dreams.
Psychology can help.
Coaching training looks at how to train without injury.
Another important field, the foundation of our college,
is sports medicine.
Athletes are prone to injuries.
How do we help them recover and return to playing?
These are the areas being taught at Mahidol's College of Sports Science.
Currently, I am Head of Sports Scientist
at Ban Thongyod Badminton School.
I'm responsible for the training programs, mainly for adult players,
such as for Ratchanok 'May' Intanon, currently world number 8.
I don't have much problem with Badminton techniques.
But I struggle with the respiration system.
Not having enough strength for the third game puts me at a disadvantage.
To build May's endurance,
I put emphasis on her long-distance running program.
She didn't perform very well in long-distance running.
I gradually adjusted the training,
and weightlifting to increase endurance.

We focus on every part of the body
because the badminton movement involves the whole body.
I increased the number of lifting, from 15 to 20 or 25.
I also reduced the resting time between sets.

A 45-minutes to 1-hour run every day after his practice.
Another problem was my strength.
In weight training,
I was lifting lighter weight than others in the same group.
