- What's up girls?
It's Hannah with Girl Brand.
Today we are gonna talk about
how to start a business on Instagram.
(uplifting music)
You're on Instagram, everyone's on Instagram.
You see people out there killing it.
They have the same interests as you and you're like,
I could do what they do.
So you're wondering how to start a business on Instagram.
Well I've got you.
There's a couple things you need to keep in mind
and there's a lot more where that comes from.
But this is specifically for if you're ready to get started.
The first thing that we need to talk about
is your niche or your niche.
I have no idea how you say that.
I've heard many different people say it many different ways.
I'm just gonna stick with niche because
that's the first time I heard it to it kinda stuck,
but niche sounds really fancy.
Anyway.
So building your own niche.
First you need to find out what you wanna do.
If you're into fitness, fitness is a niche.
If you're into beauty, beauty is a niche.
If you're into motivation, motivational quotes and stuff,
that's a niche.
For me, I'm into helping girls scale their brands
with social media marketing, that's my niche.
And so really just creating a sense of knowing
what you wanna talk about, who you wanna talk about,
and really how far you wanna go with it.
I must say, I see a lot of people get on Instagram
ready to start a business, whether that be for photography
or baking, just something on the side,
and they don't put their whole heart into it,
and then they wonder why they're not gaining traction.
And it's because you really need to sit down first
and write down the beginning steps.
The first thing I ever did when I created Girl Brand,
I still have it and I visit it frequently
to make sure that my goals still align,
but I got on my Word doc, my Google doc,
and I sat down and I chose what my mission is,
what my niche is, who my avatar is,
and what my long-term goal is.
And knowing that really sets you up for long-term success.
So starting with your niche is super, super important.
So right now, as you're watching this video
wanting to make an Instagram business
and really succeed on Instagram
so you can either quite your day job,
live the life you wanna live,
be able to travel, be able to work from home,
whatever the goal is for you personally,
if you really wanna meet that
and you really wanna make Instagram a success
like you see everyone else doing,
starting with your niche is key
and that comes from whatever makes you passionate,
whatever you're passionate about,
whatever you love doing every day.
And that can change.
Honestly for me, mine started in health and fitness
and here I am talking about social media
and marketing to women.
It changed over the years
but once I decided that this was my passion,
I really stuck to it and I have loved every minute
of growing this Instagram brand.
Defining your niche in the beginning is so important.
So write that down.
Who is your niche and who is your avatar within that niche
so that the content you start creating
can really speak to them, and you can gain
a little more traction right in the beginning.
So we found our niche.
We know who we're talking to.
We know what content they need.
We know what they're struggling with.
Now we're talking about our brand guide or our theme,
and this is really all about the looks
and really the shallow part of Instagram
that a lot of us tend to avoid but it's so important,
and honestly kinda makes or breaks your page.
We wanna make sure that you are congruent
across all social platforms.
So maybe your Instagram profile picture
is the same as your YouTube, it's the same as your Facebook,
it's the same as this and that, your LinkedIn.
Whatever you're on, make sure you have the same
profile picture so people kind of know who you are
and they start to get a little like, okay,
I've seen this girl before.
I know who this is.
They see the congruency across the board
and it starts to state you as an authority of like,
oh, she's everywhere.
What is she doing?
Making sure that you're just the same all across the board.
And really choosing your logo, choosing your colors,
your theme, maybe the filters that you're gonna be using
for each post so that when people go to your page
they see that it's congruent
and that all of your pictures look kind of similar
and they're really pretty
and they look nice next to each other.
Like I said, it's super, super shallow
but it's really important when you're trying to grow
a brand or a business online
because that's what people are attracted to.
Along with the teaching and the motivational stuff
comes the looks and keeping them entertained.
Really, the two go hand in hand,
and you can't have one without the other.
So we found our niche, we know who we're talking to,
we have found our theme, we know our logo,
our brand colors, kind of the way we write,
the way our page is gonna look,
and now it's time to really cross pollinate.
And what do I mean by that?
I mean it's really time to get out there
and spread the word of your page, of who you are,
of your message, of what you're offering.
And some of the really easy ways to do that
is simply by just getting really active
in your comments section,
really active on other people's comment section.
In your stories, you're sharing things and tagging people
so that they'll share it to their stories.
Really just spreading the word.
And I don't mean to go out and just follow a bunch of pages
for no reason.
People used to do this.
I remember these back in the day.
They used to follow let's say 100 people at once,
and then slowly see maybe 25, 30 people follow them again,
and then unfollow them all.
And they gained that 35 followers.
That is not the way to do it.
You're just kind of A, being rude,
and B, you're just gaining followers
who only are following you because they followed them
and they were like, alright, I'll follow them back.
So really getting in there and being social in Instagram
is what's gonna build your following,
and not only build your following but build your following
within the niche that you've chosen.
You could spend money on followers all day long
but that doesn't mean that they are here to listen
to what you have to say.
Doesn't mean that they're gonna buy what you're selling.
So really making sure that you're social,
you're reaching out to people that you look up to
and seeing how you can work with them,
finding ways that you can be social on Instagram
instead of taking quick little cuts
will really help you and it will go a long way.
First, pick your niche.
Second, pick your theme,
and third, cross pollinate, start getting out there
and saying hi and what's up and I love your page
to as many people as possible,
and those are my three quick, quick steps
on how you can get started.
Like I said, that's the tip of the iceberg.
There is so much more
but if you're sitting here and you're watching
everyone's videos and you're loving Instagram
and you're like, I wanna work from home.
I can do this.
I know just as much about photography
or flowers or jewelry or anything in between,
I know just as much as they do
and I love spending my days doing it.
I'm so passionate about it on the side.
I wanna make this my full-time gig.
This is where you need to start.
This is where I tell my girls in my community to start.
Every single day, my newbies coming in who are like,
I'm ready to do this.
I'm like, this is where we go.
You need to pick your niche, you need to pick your theme,
and you need to cross pollinate.
And I will see you girls in the next video.
