- Hey Girls!
It's Hannah with Girl Brand
and today we are gonna be talking about
how you can get more followers on Instagram.
(pleasant contemporary music)
Okay, so we're talking about something
that everybody wants to know the quick and easy answers to
and that is how you can get more Instagram followers
and I immediately off the bat wanna go ahead
and just put a huge X over that question
and switch it over to another question
which you should be asking
and that is how can I gain more engagement
or how can I grow my engagement on Instagram
instead of followers?
People who are out there looking for followers
are looking to see their follower count go up
or eventually have that verified blue check mark
next to their name are actually accumulating,
most of the time, not real people.
They're accumulating bots who come in
and even though they make you look super official,
give you a little bit of authority
with that really huge number over your profile,
you're actually accumulating people
who aren't gonna buy what you're selling,
who aren't gonna interact with your post
and with your stories,
they're actually just hurting you
because Instagram 100% knows what a bot is
and what they're doing.
There are many ways they can see
that you are either buying followers
or in the wrong sort of engagement pods
to get these followers and they will flag your account.
So I definitely want to nix that way of thinking
of how I can get more and more followers,
more and more people.
Yes that is the goal with Instagram
but we wanna be thinking of it in a more organic social way
instead of just the number.
So, I wanna go over a couple of strategies
that I teach my clients
on how they can grow their engagement
which essentially grows their following,
their engaged following.
So, tip number one is to join engagement groups,
and yes I just mentioned that they can be bad
and there are bad ones out there
but most engagement groups are made of people like you.
There's many different ways that you can join this
or you can start one on your own.
I actually, once you start doing your thing,
you're super active on Instagram,
you're posting really great engaging content,
some people will come to you and say,
"Hey, I have this engagement group,
"it's the same kind of niche as you,
"the same kind of following as you.
"Would you be interested?"
I simply said yes and now I'm in a couple of those
and I love the girls in there.
I'm becoming friends with them and like I said,
they're in the same niche as I'm in,
they have the same kind of following.
We're all in the 10,000 to 25,000 followers,
and we're all kind of doing the same thing
which is really, really cool.
And we simply just let each other know
when we've posted a new post.
We'll comment, "New post, this is what it's about,"
and all of the girls in that engagement group,
I think there's about 25 of us,
will go ahead and they'll comment on our pictures
and they'll be like, "Hey girl," and it's real interaction,
real people who are making your engagement look super legit
and I honestly have just grown really close to these girls
and I love the work that they're putting out,
the content that they're creating,
the message that they're spreading,
and it's just a really awesome way
for you to not only get to know other people
but get quality comments and likes on your posts
so that the niche you are attracting sees
oh wow, this girl has some great followers.
They immediately know it's not a bot that's coming in
with a really weird user name that says like "nice"
or "great photo".
No, they're commenting quality things
which makes it look like you are really well known
in your niche.
And like I said, you can make your own engagement group.
This is something that you can do
by going into a Facebook group that you may be in,
let's say you're a photographer
and you're in a Facebook group of photographers in your area
and you love the girls in there,
you can simply go in there and be like,
"Hey girls, I would love to start an engagement group
"with your girls.
"I have about 5,000 followers.
"If anyone has between five to 10
"and would love to join this with me, here are the rules.
"Let me know down below in the comments
"and I'll start a group right away."
And that way you can start kinda doing your own thing
and really helping other girls boost their engagement
while they do it for you too.
And there's so many avenues you can go with that.
There's different giveaways
you girls could all really participate in
to get your engagement up
and just different kind of cool activities
that group can do together to make sure
that you're getting those likes
and those comments that you need.
So beyond engagement groups and really getting out there
and finding people in the same niche as you
and starting these groups
to be able to comment on each other's posts
and give each other some love,
the second thing that I always tell my girls or my clients
is to be active on Stories
but specifically tagging people on Stories.
That is a huge way for people to know who you are.
You can simply do this
by if there's a podcast that you really love
just really taking a screenshot of that podcast,
posting it to your Instagram Story,
tagging the podcast creator and say,
"This podcast episode spoke to me in so many different ways.
"You literally killed this for me.
"I needed this, thank you so much."
100% that person is going to repost that
to their Instagram Story and their thousands of followers
is going to see that and let's say only 10% of them click,
that's still a huge amount of people within the same niche
that are clicking over to your profile
and seeing everything you have going on.
If you have a beautiful page, if your bio's on point,
they will follow you.
So, really just tagging as many people as you can
in your stories,
even if it's a video of you talking about something
and you happen to mention a book that you read
that you really loved,
tagging the author really shouting them out,
giving them some love will always give you a repost.
So make sure you're tagging all of your people
in your stories every single day multiple times a day.
If you feel like you're annoying, you're not
'cause sometimes people miss it.
Just everything that you're doing on your Stories,
there should be a couple tags in there
to really spread the love.
In fact, one thing I did this with, which is super funny,
I love this orange juice, it's Natalie's Orange Juice,
shout out, it's just pure OJ and I was sick.
And so I posted about it
and they reposted my little bottle picture of me being like,
"Oh, I'm so sick but this came to my rescue,"
and I got three quality followers
and one of them was in my DMs.
And we're not even in the same niche,
ya know obviously whoever follows orange juice
is probably not into what I'm having to say,
but the people who clicked on it and came over,
they were like, "Oh, she's kind of doing what I'm doing."
And now one of the girls, she's a health and fitness coach
and I'm helping her with her program and it's all because
I shout out an orange juice brand on my Stories.
So don't overlook this stuff.
Don't think, oh of course ya know I know this,
actually be doing it every single day consistently
and you will see huge things happen.
My third step in how you can really create engagement
and gain those followers is spending 30 minutes a day
to be social.
I do this every single day.
You can pick when you wake up in the morning
with your cup of coffee, you can pick on your lunch break
when you're sitting there with your salad.
I personally like to do it at night.
I'm winding down in front of the TV
and I wanna be on my phone because obviously
the TV's not important anymore.
I'm just like, my brain has to be doing 16 different things
to actually be entertained at this point.
I feel like that's how we all are.
So I'll be on my phone for 30 minutes,
I set the timer at least, sometimes I'll go over,
and I just sit there on my homepage and I get active
and I comment on everything that I see.
And I'm not commenting
just emojis or the same thing over and over again.
Like "go girl" or "you're killin' it".
No, I'm reading their posts, I'm liking it,
and I'm commenting something that really struck with me.
If I see a post and nothing in that post resonated with me,
there's not one thing I can think to say,
I like it and I move on.
I genuinely post genuine things
so that people can see like this girl took some time
to write a little message for me, something really sweet,
something super uplifting.
Or I'll just be like, "Hey, I saved this
"because what you're talking about I needed to hear today,
"and I'll probably need to hear it tomorrow."
So really just telling them that you're loving their content
and interacting with them in a real way immediately
makes you look kind of as an authority
and not so much as a bot.
And people will click on you thinking
oh, this girl gave some good feedback.
Let me see like what she's doing over there.
Always commenting back.
The only comments I don't comment back to
is if there's really nothing to say
or if it's a clear bot I will not answer that.
But I'm always answering back
what people are either asking me or saying
within my own comments.
People that I start notice that are regularly commenting
on my posts that are not in my engagement group
I 100% click on that profile, I go over to their page.
If I love what they're doing I follow them.
I'm not a bitchy follower, I'm just gonna say it,
I follow everyone.
I think it's really rude
when you see like a gajillion followers
and like 200 following.
No, I am in it to really help my girls' Instagram grow.
And so if I can be one of those people
really putting forth engagement on their posts
that's what I'm gonna do.
So I'll go over.
If their content's amazing, I'm gonna follow them
and I'm gonna like their first picture
and see what they're kinda doing,
see what posts they're posting
and comment genuine things.
That 100% of the time, if they're not following you already
will get you a follow and chances are
if you're using the right hashtags,
which is actually my next point,
if you're using the right hashtags
most people who are commenting on you
found you from the Explore page from the hashtags
that they either follow or that they like
or they are familiar with.
So that's a new follow from someone that found you
and liked your post and is probably within your niche
and needs what you are selling.
So really taking those 30 minutes to be active
in whatever part of your day gets you so much further
than just doing the hacks of getting a thousand bots
that aren't doing anything for you.
Another ya know comment section that I'm super active in
besides the girls that I follow,
the girls that are on my comments and then now the third one
is my competition.
They're more people I look up to.
I'm actually in no competition with them.
They're slayin' it, they're killin' it, and I love them.
I have my set 10 girls that I look up to.
They're content inspires me every single day,
what they're saying has true meaning
and you can tell they sat down and they thought about it.
They're teaching me things, they're keeping me entertained,
they're who I want to be in five to 10 years.
Those are the people that I want to be commenting on
every single post and those people,
I put a little more thought into my comments.
I'm not just commenting like, "this is so cute"
like "I love your outfit, where'd you get your top?"
I'm commenting things that make me seem like an authority
in their comments section because you will not believe
how many people actually sit on these people's posts
and look through their comments,
especially if they have already commented on it.
And they're just reading what other people have to say
so maybe it's a mindset tip
of how you're changing your mindset
and let's say you know exactly what they're talking about
because you went through it two years ago
and you're like okay yes, I know what she's talking about.
So you have a little comfortability.
You know what they're saying.
If you comment something that really states authority
and really adds value to what they're saying,
people are gonna be like, oh shoot, who's this chick?
Like, what is she doing?
They're gonna click on your profile,
they're gonna head over,
and like I said if you're feed is beautiful
and your bio is on point, they're gonna give you a follow.
So, 30 minutes a day.
Make sure you're taking that time to really be social
because even though Instagram is a business tool,
we have to be social to get those social interactions
and really just create amazing relationships.
I can't tell you how many times simply doing this
every single day
I have met amazing girls within my community
within the comments section.
People have DM'd me and it's just been so fun
to really get to know people
just by spending that quality time on Instagram,
really wanting to get to know them and instead of like, ugh,
I have to like all of these posts today
so my name shows up.
No, be genuine about it.
Really create a homepage that you love following
so that you can be really excited to go on and be like,
oh, what did Amanda do today?
What did Sarah do today?
Oh, look at her killin' it in her new outfit.
You know, just really love your homepage
to make you want to comment.
Alright, tip number four is hashtags.
Using the right hashtags are super, super important.
I see a lot of people just throwing up random hashtags
like #coffee, #tuesday, #winning, #girls.
Those hashtags won't really get you anywhere.
You really wanna make sure
that you are researching your hashtag.
I actually talk about this in my Instagram Academy.
I have a foolproof plan of how you can set up an Excel doc
and find hashtags that work for you
and that get you boosted to the top of the Explore page.
I just wanna make sure I'm giving you quick tips
that really help you right now and that first tip
within the hashtags
is to make sure you're commenting your hashtags
in your actual caption not in your comments.
Instagram has this thing called shadow-ban
which basically they ban hashtags that they think
either a bot is using
or isn't really congruent with what's happening,
something's sketchy there.
So they will kick you off of that hashtag
so all of that hard work you just spent
on really finding and researching hashtags
that will boost you to the top of the Explorer page
don't even matter, which is a total bummer.
Because after you actually really put your research into
for hashtags, it's like a good two hours that you spent
kind of deciding which hashtags should go with which post
so I would hate for all of your hard work
to just go down the toilet,
make sure you're posting it actually within your caption
and not your comments.
And once you get a little comfortable with that
there are some tips
that you can put 'em back in your comments
that I've recently learned
and I've been studying for a little bit.
If you're interested in that, if you're like Hannah,
people who put hashtags in their caption look so gross.
It clutters up my crap.
I love the way my neat, pretty captions look.
I don't wanna mess it up with my hashtags,
comment down below and I will give you a couple little tips
that I've found that have really helped me
put my hashtags in my comments
but I haven't gotten shadow-banned.
But to avoid a sake of a six-hour video,
just keep 'em in your caption, put a couple periods,
push 'em down a little bit
to make sure you're avoiding that.
Another way that Instagram will shadow-ban your hashtags
is if you actually are using hashtags that are generic,
like I said, #smile, #coffee, #wednesday.
Make sure when you're doing your research for hashtags
you're seeing what your competition
or people you love following
who are doing the same thing you are,
see what they're hashtagging.
See what the people you follow are hashtagging.
Click on the hashtag.
How many posts are there?
What do the top performing posts look like?
Really do your research and write down some ones
you have in mind and see how they're performing
and just start making a list.
I have a list of a couple different options I love
depending on what type of content I'm posting for the day
that I just go over and I copy and I post it right there
and it's so easy but really taking the time
to find the ones that will really work for you
and boost your post to the top of the Explore page
is super important.
So, remember if you're asking yourself
how do I get more followers on Instagram,
that is not the question you should be asking
it's how to get more engagement on my Instagram?
Engagement equals quality followers.
Buying followers equals bots
and people who aren't really gonna buy into your message
or love your content or interact with you.
It ultimately won't buy what you're selling.
So get out there, really get on Instagram,
be social 30 minutes a day, use the right hashtags,
and I will see you soon.
