Oxford Professor : The Meaning of Love (by We Are Thomasse) - Duration: 4:18.

At Valentine's Day, our minds turn inexorably to love,

by which of course I don't mean the tennis score that means "nothing"...

and when of course I say it means 'nothing', I don't mean that it has no meaning at all,

rather that it means that there has as yet been no score.

Ironically people in love often wish to score,

although those who wish to score are not necessarily in love,

a rather good example of the old maxim that "if X then Y" does not necessarily by any means imply "if Y then X"...

although when it comes to an ex, many of us will be asking ourselves 'why'!

(laughs at own joke)

Relationships are rather a lot like a game of tennis:

one must find a partner,

or doubles if that's your thing...

and then starting with a foundation of love,

one very quickly hits thirty then forty

and before you know it the game's up and it's all over.

The Greeks of course - as you will recall - had seven different types of love,

all of which I can heartily recommend.

But I should like to postulate the proposition that in our current society,

we have rather lost the art of making love...

and when I say "making love" I am not referring of course to what is known colloquially as a good shag,

that is - uh - 'shag' as in 'coitus' not 'shag' as in a 'comfortable deep carpet',

and when I say "the art of making love" I wouldn't wish you to construe that I am referring

to those Grecian urns of antiquity whose pastoral scenes verge - to be frank - on the pornographic.

Rather, it is in the echelons of Shakespeare and Austen,

where we find the finest examples of the veritable artform of 'wooing',

nowadays reduced to mere 'dating', if that-

perchance just a hook-up or a "booty call"-

which my graduate class assures me does not mean, as one would assume,

the excited yelling of a successful pirate,

but rather the euphemism for meaningless intercourse,

and of course by intercourse I am not referring to those tedious lulls between courses at those interminable Oxford dinner parties.

Why is it that such an act of casual copulation is deemed 'meaningless'?

It is precisely the lack of love-

the love that gives it meaning,

the love that gives life meaning,

indeed the love that gives us life...

that is "life" as in procreation

or life as in vim and vigour,

but not "gives us life" as in life imprisonment.

Thus it seems that the answer to the question "why?" -

'why are we here, what is the meaning of it all?' -

is, in fact, "love".

As the old adage says "Love is the answer".

Although for my Oxford students who are looking for insights into their upcoming finals examinations,

I'll tell you now that love is most certainly NOT the answer,

and if you do wish to pass you will need to express a rather more thought-out opinion than that.

But for the rest of you that are not my students, let me reassure you this Valentine's Day,

in the words of the Fab Four,

that "Love is All You Need."

One Way We Are Getting Video Clients in 2019! - Duration: 3:30.

Hey guys how's it going? Matty here for another video. Before we start this video

I just want to make it clear we're not marketing experts, we don't know if this

is actually gonna work. I thought it would just been really interesting to

show you guys kind of what we're trying and like how we're gonna try and

bring in clients in 2019 and make it like a really good year for us. So I

think later down the line when we've kind of followed through with the process of this

it would be really interesting for us to make another video of the outcome

and you know obviously we'll post that as well and let you guys know how it goes

if it goes badly I think that's just as important for us to show that as is if

it goes well. Also just want to be clear I got this idea from Siam Kidd. He's got

loads of cool kind of courses out there which will teach you all the ins and

outs of setting up a business and the marketing of it and highly recommend

checking those out and yeah thanks for giving us the idea. So anyway with

that out of the way let's get into it and yeah let's show you guys one of the

ways we're going to make 2019 a really good year for us.

So our plan is we are going to send out these letters this is just a kind of a

basic introduction of what we do and how video can help people we also have a QR

code here which they can scan it or take them straight to our website. Flip this

over and we have a kind of advertisement of a few stats which show

that videos are good how good it is our website obviously and a few pictures here. You

might recognise this guy. That's Josh and a few screenshots from

some of our videos. So if we just send those out and the post no one's gonna

really read a sales letter you know how many of them do you get? So we thought

we'd add in some chocolate. We went for some Lindt a bit different sticking like a

Cadbury's bar. I like the red because it goes with our

branding. We have these little key rings with our logo on which we'll send out

and these actually also have one of those kind of trolley coins in if

anyone's like oh that's that's quite a handy thing actually. I'll stick that on my keys

they're carrying around our logo which you know if they see that we're always

on the mind and you know they know who we are.

So we're sending them out in these brights red envelopes which again goes

with the branding and having a red envelope delivered to you is way more

interesting there's like a plain white or dreaded brown envelopes. These are

a nice big good-quality envelopes. We're gonna hand write all the addresses again

it just makes it more personal. Finally we also got these little stickers

printed which we'll put on the back of the envelopes to seal them up

kind of like a old-style kind of wax seal

so yeah it's another little kind of personal branding to it and yeah I think

that'd look nice on the back of these red envelopes. Once people have

received these open them up they read the letter you know enjoy the chocolate

a few days after well then going to follow them up with a phone call and

this is the key bit you know if we just call them up out of the blue just like

only a random cold call. You get so many of those and they're just gonna be like

yeah okay getting sold - I'm gonna put the

phone down. If video isn't for them if they don't need video for the business

at the moment at least now they know of us. Anyway that's all for now as I said I

think it'll be good for us to do a follow-up video just to tell you how

this when and if we got any work from it. If you guys have done something similar to

And there you can select the language you want

I put myself subtitles in English and in French, in all my episodes

So we went running, while the others went for a walk to the bar in town

So tonight on the menu is big eyes in papillotes with rice an tomato sauce

Cruising with 2 small boats together is really fun

For a few days, we have been sailing alongside, went fishing, gathered provision,

cooking and having food on each other's boats.

And when other cruisers were running into us on shore, we were normally referred as

"the young lads from the small boats", which I guess was pretty accurate.

Today we're goint back to the main island of Les Saintes

And it's the final race, because Lucy has been winning all the previous ones

But I was towing this big dinghy all that time

Since 2 episodes, you might have noticed that I have a really nice dinghy, and not my usual inflatable kayak.

This is because when the boat from my friends went missing, they had only the dinghy left.

And since they were flying back home, they asked me to take care of the dinghy

and bring it to Martinique where they wanted to store it.

It was awesome to have a nice dinghy, especially since we were several people on board at that point,

but it was also a real pain in the neck, slowing down the boat big time

So today the guys are taking the dinghy, it's not a long way, maybe 2nm

They're going to do the comitee boat and media boat as well

And Lucy and I are going to race each others

Fingers crossed for me, and I leave the gopro with the guys
