Here are some places to check out while you're here.

Spend the afternoon at Lake Merritt.

It's a relaxing place for a stroll or a picnic.

If you're feeling adventurous, you can rent a boat for $12 and take it around the lake.

Watch a film at the historic grand lake theater.

This theater opened in 1926 and still has its ornate decorations,

along with two huge theaters inside.

Go on a Tuesday for $5 admission

or a Wednesday for free popcorn.

While in the Lake District,

stop by the farmers market on Saturdays.

There are goods from local farmers,

as well as live music and food trucks.

Sit back on the lawn,

or enjoy a cup of Ethiopian coffee.

Rockridge is a wonderful neighborhood to explore.

Located West of the Oakland Hills and south of Berkeley,

there are plenty of restaurants,

coffee shops and bookstores.

It is also known for its market hall

with gourmet foods.

For dessert, head to Fentons Creamery.

This classic creamery offers fancy sundaes as well as lunch and dinner.

It was featured in the Disney/ Pixar movie Up,

as it is a favorite spot for the Pixar animators based in Emeryville.

Monsignor Fernando Ocáriz held a brief press conference
