[Pokemon game sound]

Hello!

Good morning!

What's up?

I'm sick today.

My throat hurts.

My name is Rikki Poynter [sign name].

I'm a mainstreamed deaf person who has been learning ASL for the last two years.

Last year, I made a video called...

Actually, I forgot the title but it was about my interpreters cancelling on me.

I needed interpreters for an event and they cancelled on me at the last minute.

That video was in ASL.

I was voice off in that video.

I read a comment on that video that said something like, "Since you can talk, why not talk?"

My answer is that, yes, I can talk and I have good speech,

but if I'm using ASL, ASL doesn't use voice.

So why would I want to voice?

SimCom is a bad thing to do.

I don't like using SimCom.

So... I don't do it.

My first language is English.

I like English.

I like yelling, yelling swear words out loud.

It's fun, but I like ASL too.

If I'm practicing ASL, I'm not going to SimCom.

The only time I SimCom is if I'm with hearing and deaf people in the same room.

Or if I'm livestreaming.

But in videos, no.

I've sometimes voiced a few words in videos, but... whatever.

But I won't do it in a full ASL video.

So a message to you hearing folks out there:

You guys have a lot of access in this world.

You don't need me to voice for you.

I always have captions on these videos.

Okay, there is one circumstance.

Blind viewers benefit from captions or a voiceover, but I can't do that.

It's difficult for me to do my own voiceover.

So I have transcripts available if a video is in ASL.

I like ASL and when I practice ASL, I'm not voicing.

If you're not a fan of that, I'm sorry.

Is there anything else that I need to say?

I don't think so.

I'm still fluent in English, so, yes, I will still voice in some videos.

But I'm also going to do some videos in ASL.

If you don't like that, you'll have to get over it.

Just understand that there will always be captions on my videos, okay?

If you want to follow me on my social media, links to that will be down below.

If you want to support my work, links to Patreon and Ko-fi will be down below.

I [try to] upload every Monday and Thursday.

And I'll see you later. Bye!

Manchester United on alert as Emre Can demands release clause be put into Liverpool contract - Duration: 2:13.

Manchester United on alert as Emre Can demands release clause be put into Liverpool contract

MANCHESTER UNITED and Chelsea are on alert as reports claim Emre Can has demanded a release clause be put in his new Liverpool contract.

The Times says Cans talks with the Anfield side have stalled over the order because club chiefs are reluctant to agree to the request. Emre Can wants a release clause put in his new Liverpool deal.

Manchester United and Chelsea are interested in the Germany midfielder. Cans discussions have been ongoing for more than a year and the midfielder is now in the final 12 months on his contract.

Liverpool themselves exploited a £9. 75million release clause when signing Can from Bayer Leverkusen three years ago. The report says Anfield bosses were aware of the players agents, International Soccer Management, likely seeking another one in the future.

Jurgen Klopp has called Cans predicament not too cool but has been boosted in his hopes the player will stay due to his form so far this campaign.

Such faith will be tested in January with United and Chelsea making their interest known in Can. Some reports have gone so far as to claim Can will sign a pre-contract with Juventus in January.

Emre Can has already impressed for the Kop this season.

Jurgen Klopp says the situation with Emre Can is not too cool. Liverpool rejected a £23milion move for him from the Serie A side on deadline day.

But Juve boss Max Allegri confirmed they will go in again for his services in the new year.

Manchester United news: Jose Mourinho believes Phil Jones can replicate Chelsea legend John Terry - Duration: 2:08.

Manchester United news: Jose Mourinho believes Phil Jones can replicate Chelsea legend John Terry

The England international has been a surprise success story under Mourinho since he took charge of the team last summer, despite the Portuguese's initial doubts over the quality of his defence.

Jones started brightly at United under Sir Alex Ferguson before going backwards, but finally looks like living up to his potential after winning over Mourinho.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Mourinho has placed him in an elite bracket of unsellable players at Old Trafford, alongside the likes of David de Gea and Marcus Rashford.

The report adds that the former Chelsea boss sees Jones as a player who could fill a similar role in his Red Devils side as legendary Blues skipper Terry did for so many years at Stamford Bridge.

The former England captain grew into a truly world class defender upon being made full time captain by Mourinho in 2004, helping the club to a host of major honours, including the Champions League and five Premier League titles.

Despite the signing of Victor Lindelof in defence this summer, Jones' fine form at the start of the season has made him first choice alongside Eric Bailly, with the Swede yet to even make his Premier League debut.

Jones' future came into some doubt due to his fitness problems, with clubs like Stoke City and Hull said to have shown an interest in him at various points.

Mourinho was said to have been 'intrigued' by the 25-year-old's potential, however, and now seems to be being rewarded for keeping his faith in him.

Liverpool refuse Emre Can contract request: Kop future looking bleak after latest stall - Duration: 1:39.

Liverpool refuse Emre Can contract request: Kop future looking bleak after latest stall

Contract talks between the Germany international and the club have stalled over the issue. Liverpool do not want the player having a clause that would allow one of Europe's top clubs to snatch him at any time for a set fee.

But Can is insisting on it which has led to a stalemate in talks that have been going on for months.

Can, 23, has less than a year left on his current deal at Anfield which means he could leave for nothing next summer. Liverpool now have plenty of competition in the central midfield now after looking threadbare for some time.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was brought in from Arsenal on deadline day after rejecting Chelsea because he prefers playing in the centre. Naby Keita will join from RB Leipzig next year, whilst Adam Lallana is still recovering from injury.

Boss Jurgen Klopp says defender Nathaniel Clyne could return to Liverpool's Champions League squad in the New Year after a back injury.

We can challenge the foundations of violence against women - Duration: 1:43.

To end men's violence against women

we need to challenge the foundations of violence.

These are the attitudes, actions and social norms

that devalue and discriminate against women.

Violence against women begins with gender inequality.

Sexist behaviour creates a culture where it's ok

to joke about and belittle women.

A third of Victorians have witnessed sexism towards women.

It's time we stand up and say "That's not OK".

Gender inequality restricts womens rights to independence,

leadership roles, and equal pay.

Australian women are over represented as part time workers

in low paid industries.

Traditional gender roles limit women and men

and reinforce gender inequality.

8 out of 10 women aged 18 to 24

were harassed on the street in the past year.

Threats and harrassements limit a women's ability

to challenge gender inequality.

1 in 3 women have experienced physical violence

since the age of 15.

Violence is not always visible.

It is about using power and control.

Gender equality creates a level playing field

which does not support violence against women.

In Australia, one women is murdered a week

by a partner or former partner.

To end men's violence against women

we need to challenge these foundations of violence.

We can all do this by challenging gender inequality.

Which Type Of Diabetes Can Be Controlled By Diet? - Duration: 6:19.

Hello, I am Ty Mason of thediabetescouncil.com, researcher, writer and I have type 2 diabetes.

Today I want to talk which type of diabetes can be controlled by diet.

After you watch the video today, I invite you check out the description box for my new

ebook.

This is one of the most comprehensive diabetes meal planning book you can find.

It contains diabetes friendly meals/recipes, recipes for different goals such as 800-1800

calories per day meal plan, diabetes meal planning tips and tricks.

There are also tons of diabetes friendly recipes for everyone!

When it comes to diabetes, many people can get confused.

There are, sort of, 4 types, with 2 main types.

The main types are Type 1 and Type 2, then there is Pre-Diabetes and Gestational diabetes.

This only occurs in pregnant women.

So we really need to answer a couple of questions.

First of all, which type CAN be managed with diet, that is Type 2.

Let's talk about those with Type 1 diabetes first.

If you have Type 1 then you are insulin dependent.

If you have Type 1 Diabetes, then approximately 90% of your insulin producing cells have been

destroyed.

They have not been damaged with a chance of repair, they are gone.

It is impossible to reverse the damage done.

While some think their diabetes has been cured or even reversed, this is a false sense of

security.

The process that destroyed the 90% of insulin producing cells with destroy the remaining

10%.

Ultimately you will be totally dependent on insulin.

Type 1 diabetes cannot be managed without medication.

And this is not my opinion, it is the opinion of the foremost diabetes center in the world,

the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston.

Here is what they have to say on the matter: If you have type 1 diabetes, you must take

daily insulin injections to keep your blood glucose in a normal range.

Your body produces little or no insulin.

Insulin is a vital hormone that helps your body convert food into energy.

Without insulin, you would die.

So the answer is Type 2 diabetes CAN be managed with diet.

But is it something you should try to do?

Well, here is what Joslin has to say about that.

If you have type 2 diabetes, the answer to this question is much less clear.

Many people can keep their blood glucose in a healthy range without medications (either

oral diabetes medications or insulin injections) if they lose weight and keep their weight

down, are regularly physically active, and follow a meal plan that helps them keep portion

sizes under control and helps them spread the amount of carbohydrate they eat at each

meal throughout the day.

So yes, it is possible for people with Type 2 to maintain their blood sugar without medication.

But I do want to emphasize that this is not possible for everyone.

In the 2016 study, 30 volunteers with Type 2 went on a strict diet of 650 calories per

day for 6 months.

Now, let me warn you right now, that is not a lot of food in 650 calories.

However, the participants lost an average of 30 pounds.

They had to keep this weight off for another 6 months through diet and exercise.

The results were that 12 of those with Type 2 who had been diagnosed less than10 years,

reversed their diabetes.

For those who had been diagnosed longer did not have the same results.

The key to managing your diabetes is to lose weight and regular exercise.

And this isn't something you try for a month.

This is a life long commitment.

It can be done, but many fail Eventually, many people with type 2 diabetes

find that despite their best efforts, weight control, exercise and diet aren't enough to

keep their blood glucose in a healthy range.

This is not unusual.

One theory is that some people's insulin-producing cells just get tired out from having to produce

more and more insulin because their cells are resistant to the effects of insulin.

Now, if your healthcare provider tells you that you need to take oral diabetes medications

or insulin injections to manage your blood glucose, it's important that you follow their

instructions.

Keeping your blood glucose in a healthy range is key to preventing long-term complications,

such as eye disease, kidney disease, heart attacks, and other problems that poorly controlled

blood glucose can cause over a period of years If you want to try and manage your diabetes

without medications, you must let your health care provider know your intentions and you

need to monitor EVERYTHING very closely.

Don't just wake up one day and say, "I will eat right today and walk 2 miles, so

I don't need to take my meds."

That would not be a good move on your part.

It is possible to manage your diabetes without meds, but do it the right way with the help

of your healthcare team.

Why You Can Claim Islands for the US if They Have Bird Poop - Duration: 5:01.

This video was made possible by Brilliant.

Learn about neural networks, gravitational physics, number theory and more for 20% off

over at brilliant.org/hai.

So what do this and this and this and that have in common.

Well they're all part of this—the United States.

Now I know I'll get plenty of comments like these and for that I'm sorry but this is

going to be another one of those episodes—the America centric ones.

Now, what really binds these islands together is that they're all part of the US because

of this—bird poop.

In the 1700's everyone was farmers.

At the time the world population was starting to increase faster and faster but the share

of people working in farming was staying roughly the same.

All around the world the soil was loosing its nutrients from centuries of farming so

growing was becoming less efficient.

That was all until a guy named Alexander von Humboldt went to Peru and discovered guano

and by discovered, we mean he saw natives doing something and decided he invented it.

Now, sidebar, guano equals bird poop.

According to the beginning of every bad valediction speech in history, the Merriam-Webster dictionary

defines guano as "a fertilizer containing the accumulated excrement of seabirds or bats."

This guano was a miracle fertilizer thanks to its high nitrogen content and the world

became crazy about it.

By the 1850s guano was selling in the US for as much as $75 per pound.

(2017 dollars) That's almost a third the cost of Silver.

People were making their fortunes by importing bird poop and the market in the US was dominated

by only a few key players who spiked up prices.

So, William Henry Seward, the same guy who bought Alaska, introduced a bill in the Senate

which would allow any US citizen to claim any uninhabited island for the US as long

as it had guano.

Guano mania continued.

Businessmen went all around the world to find remote, unclaimed islands with guano and once

they did, these islands were added to the US no matter where they were.

This is how the country ended up with places like Howland Island, a 1.5 mile long piece

of land in the South Pacific and Kingman Reef, a gathering of shells reaching no more than

3 feet out of the water.

So the question was, how do you fit these places into the US.

These islands were not close to the US.

Some were over 4,000 miles away from the mainland.

It didn't make sense to add them as states.

Most had no permanent population.

It didn't even make sense to add them as territories.

The US had to come up with an entirely new classification of land just for these guano

islands: the insular areas.

Any insular area of the United States was considered officially, by the federal government,

a non-integral part of the United States.

They had no path to statehood and no independent government.

In fact, by law, the US didn't even consider these areas as land, they were ships.

Any crimes committed on these guano islands were prosecuted under US Maritime Law.

The only real benefit of these islands being part of the US was that, if another country

tried to claim these islands, the US military would come knocking.

As it turned out, most islands claimed ended up being pretty useless for Guano mining.

Many were like Palmyra Atoll, too wet for the guano to dry into useful fertilizer.

But they weren't completely useless.

They gave the US an enormous exclusive economic zone.

You see, these zones extend 200 miles out from the territory of any country and within

the EEZ, the owning country has exclusive rights to fishing, drilling, and all other

economic activity.

Still today, Americans have these exclusive rights all around the world thanks to bird

poop.

The most fascinating part of the Guano Islands Act is that it is still in place today.

You can still go and add an island to the US if it has bird poop to mine.

Just 20 years ago an American came across Navassa Island between Haiti and Jamaica and

there was guano, so he put in an application to the Department of the Interior to claim

it.

They, however, swiftly rejected the claim since they claimed it was already claimed

a century earlier, but that makes sense since today there are no known islands worldwide

that aren't already claimed by countries but that doesn't mean there will never be.

Small volcanic islands appear all the time and so, if the time is right, you could use

this antiquated law to add your small bit of rock to these United States.

If you do claim an island for the US, you won't want to waste your money on trivialities

like building and setting up a school.

Well, without the need for any grappling hooks, it can break dance on the vertical surface

It swings unseen like a real ninja, leaving only rhythmic clacking noises behind.

I want to continue this list by thanking whoever came up with the design for this truly remarkable

deep grief over them not growing, until these came into my life.

I looked at the packaging and everything became clear.

These pencils are said to have specific seeds in them, and once you are done using them,

you can plant them and take care of them, and after some time you can pick the fruit

of your labour.

Literally.

Ears sticker notes are pretty useless as stickers in terms of how little information you can

put on them, but they will help you turn any book or notebook into an animal of your choice,

which will not trigger allergies or require you to take it on walks or clean up after

Come October, if your pet is too thin to wear it, get an easy feeder and fill it with healthy

If you own a dog, not to worry: it can fit him as well.

Or if you have an elderly balding lion, the mane will be perfect for him as well.

When my shipment of plush salmon pillows finally arrived, I was just preparing my plate for

in 1995, mine are tightly sealed in the shape of a short piece of the fishing line.

But when I found this lip enhancer, I can finally sell them too, pay my rent, and start

practicing black magic so I can grow them back.

Seriously though, it looks like it is meant as a serious purchase, and there are people

who swear by its results.

I don't think these need any further explanation, seeing that these are Pepe jogging pants.

Owning one of those can mean one of the two things: either that the pinnacle of your social

life is an online match of Tanks, or that neither of the shirts you own have sleeves.

If it is the second, you might want to check if she is your first cousin.

Ave Pepe!

You were my favourite dank meme, and I won't ever forget you.

Can Humans Fly With Wings? - Duration: 4:57.

Humans have wing envy.

For thousands of years, we've been dreaming up hare-brained schemes to fly like birds.

The ancient Greeks conjured up Icarus and Daedalus, who made wings from bird feathers,

strings and wax.

Leonardo da Vinci put a little more thought into it, drafting plans for a mechanical winged

contraption known as the ornithopter.

While 20th-century humans are perfectly capable of taking to the skies, there's something

intrinsically unsatisfying about doing so in an aluminum behemoth.

We still want to fly like birds, taking off under our own power and gliding effortlessly

once we're airborne.

After at least two millennia of thoughtful engineering, why are humans still trying to

figure out individual flight?

Why can't we strap on a set of wings and take off?

To understand why, consider the physics of liftoff.

In order to leave the ground, the forces driving a body upward must overcome the downward force

of the body's weight.

You can see this in action during a jump.

When you push your feet down into the ground, Earth provides an equal and opposite reaction,

forcing the body upward.

You can't rely on the ground when trying to achieve sustained flight, since the whole

point is to uncouple yourself from Earth.

So flying creatures and machines have to push air down into the ground, instead of pushing

on the ground itself.

There are two ways to manage the problem of pushing down enough air to achieve liftoff.

You can accelerate a small amount of air downward very quickly, as a hummingbird does.

That takes incredible power, and none of the muscles in the human body muscles can even

come close to accelerating air that quickly.

Alternatively, you can accelerate a large amount of air more slowly, which is the more

efficient technique, especially for heavier fliers.

(That's why a pelican's wings don't flap as fast as that of a sparrow or hummingbird.)

You might think, then, that we could just build really, really large wings and flap

them quite slowly.

But there's a problem here, too.

Bigger wings, and the muscle required to move them, add weight to the equation.

The amount of power required to take off increases by the square of the additional weight.

So a doubling of weight requires a fourfold increase in power output.

Unfortunately, our arm and back muscles just aren't that strong.

Our more powerful quadriceps and gluteal muscles, stretching from our thighs up, however, can

almost do the job.

For a human to take flight on flapping wings, your body would have to be made almost entirely

of muscle.

In other words, humans make terrible hummingbirds.

With flapping and spinning apparently non-starters, a couple of options remain.

Some birds, including albatrosses, take to the air by riding thermal updrafts.

They coast between the rising and falling air currents to manage their trajectory and

execute a landing.

It's a phenomenon similar to hang-gliding.

But the whole process is totally dependent on the right wind conditions, and many scientists

think albatrosses can't fly on a still day, and therefore consider the birds technically

flightless.

We could attempt fixed, airfoil-shaped wings, as we use in airplanes.

When a plane gets going fast enough, the air moving over the top of the wing is at a slightly

lower pressure than the air underneath, creating the phenomenon known as lift.

The problem is that you have to get going far faster than your legs can carry you.

The frustrating physical reality seems to be that, unless we can lose a lot of weight

without losing any strength, humans simply aren't destined to fly any significant distances

under their own power.

But there is a happy ending, of sorts, to this story.

The jet pack, probably the closest thing a human will ever get to flying like a hummingbird,

is right around the corner.

A New Zealand-based company has developed the Martin Jetpack, essentially a helicopter

backpack.

Working with the same basic problem that faces human-powered flight, power requirements increase

at the square of added weight, Martin developed a rotary wing system with the lightest engine

capable of turning the rotors.

What he ended up with was an automobile-style piston engine.

It's lightweight, and it forces far more air through the rotors than it uses to combust

the gasoline that powers the engine.

While it's not exactly soaring like a majestic bird, it'll save you the hard work of flapping

your way up there.
