A climactic battle between man and machine in the board game Go kicked off in China this
morning.
Google's AlphaGo computer program is taking on the world's No. 1 player Ke Jie in the
first of a three-game match as part of Google's Future of Go Summit.
This January, an upgraded AlphaGo two-point-oh racked up 60 wins and zero losses on online
board-game platforms without unveiling its identity until afterwards.
In one of those games, it happened to beat the 19-year-old Ke, …who has been ranked
world's No. 1 for around two years.
Chinese Go experts say Ke's chance of winning even one game is almost zero.
Last March, AlphaGo succeeded in beating one of the world's best Go players, Korea's Lee
Se-dol.
Later this week, AlphaGo will go beyond matches against individuals and play against a team
of five of the world's top-ranked Go players.
