Bam bam bam bam bam - The trumpet

- Tequila - What?

- Tequila He doesn't say tequila.

He does.

He definitely does not say tequila.

He says tequila.

He 100% does not say tequila.

Yeah you're right, he doesn't say tequila.

Good afternoon.

Hello.

It is so sunny.

Not really sunny.

Well it's sunny for London.

We are on our way to the London Eye or the Coca Cola London Eye.

Or London's Eye as I like to call it.

Have you ever been on it?

I have not but I have seen it.

He has not.

We are ever so slightly on the lost side.

Andres is leading the way semi-unsuccessfully.

Don't hate the player hate the game.

Exactly.

Don't hate the player hate the game.

Don't give me my own advice.

We're on Southbank and it is so busy, I don't know if you can see all the people.

Lots of buskers as well which is fun to watch.

Somebody thought that we could just walk into the London Eye.

I thought if we pre-bought our tickets, we could just walk in.

Apparently not.

It's a 40 minute wait from here.

I booked in a tour at the National Theatre after this which means we might be late for that

So...I might see if I can call and rebook.

I'm sorry.

It's okay.

I did something kind of stupid.

So I bought tickets for us to do the National Theatre tour.

No luck.

I bought it for the wrong one.

I bought it for Stratford.

Which is a different city altogether.

Sorry.

We all forgive you.

We just finished the London Eye.

What did you think?

It's a bit of a tourist trap I think.

I thought it was a super tourist trap.

I just don't like that kind of thing.

I don't like heights.

We're in tourist central right now.

Yeah.

I think this is the most touristy part of London.

Maybe outside of Leicester Square.

No, this is pretty touristy.

More touristy than Leicester Square you reckon?

I think...I reckon.

Y'reckon?

I reckon.

Y'reckon?

I reckon.

So I thought today we'd try something a little bit different and answer the most commonly

asked questions on Google.

So Andres is going to help a sister out and find questions about the London Eye.

Is the London Eye worth it?

Nah.

I would say no.

Is the London Eye scary?

I didn't think it was scary but I don't know if you thought it was scary.

If you're afraid of heights, then yes.

Is the London Eye open?

It looks pretty open although the line is really long.

So...even if you buy your ticket in advance, get here an hour early.

Is the London Eye safe?

You'd hope so!

That's what you're actually thinking if you're afraid of heights.

It felt pretty sturdy.

What if there's, like, a bizarre gust of wind?

I mean, I don't think wind is going to effect it.

And now what are we doing?

Well we have tickets to other London attractions like the Aquarium and Shrek.

So we're going to see what has the smallest line.

So all of the attractions have long lines except for Shrek's Adventure so I think we're going

to give that a go.

For the record, I think Shrek's Adventure is going to be underrated.

I think so too.

I think it could be fantastic.

There aren't a lot of people in it, though.

I know that's why I think it's underrated.

I have no idea what to expect from this.

Not gonna lie.

So far it's been a bit weird.

Apparently no pictures.

We just finished the tour now we're in this, like, photo area.

Madagascar.

We met Shrek.

And Shrek's biggest fan, apparently.

This is it.

Well, that was fun.

My big disappointment is that we took the best pictures.

When you go in they make you take pictures.

And ours were so good.

But it was £30 to get them in the end.

There was Lizzie going like this.

It was so good.

Should I do it again?

You did a really great one.

I was looking at her like...

That was the best picture.

Overall, it was interesting.

If you have kids it's a lot better, obviously.

Definitely worth it if you've got kids.

If you don't have kids, then it was like...I'm glad we did it, I preferred it to the London

Eye actually.

The actors were pretty good.

They were really into it.

So basically what it is is you go in and have your own adventure with Shrek.

You're trying to find Shrek.

I don't want to give too much away incase you're thinking of going.

But it was good.

It was good, it was really fun.

We're heading now to a pub to have a drink, and then we're going to go home.

But it's been a really good day except for me accidentally booking the wrong tickets.

So every year in London there's this thing called Underbelly Festival and it just happens

during summer and we're here now.

It's pretty busy.

So now we're going to do the Shrek's Adventure Google auto fill answer questions.

That didn't make any sense but hopefully you know what I mean.

Is Shrek's Adventure for adults?

Adults with babies?

Yes.

For kids?

Yes.

It's for kids more.

The kids thought it was magical.

Would I say it's 100% for adults?

No.

And actually if you want to do something that's more adult there's probably better things

to do.

But it's nice, like if you're into Shrek and you just want a fun day out, it's nice.

Having said that, the person that was in front of us, she was like 25, and she was like,

"I'm the number 1 Shrek fan" and she rushed to Shrek and gave him a hug.

So yes and no.

Is Shrek's Adventure included in Merlin's pass?

I don't know.

I think so.

But you could probably Google that.

Is Shrek's Adventure good for adults?

Same question as number 1.

Is Shrek's Adventure scary?

At one point I did scream.

Twice!

Things kind of jump out at you but I don't think it's on purpose.

I think I'm just a naturally jumpy person so I wouldn't say it's scary.

I think it's fine for kids of all ages.

Is Shrek's Adventure a Merlin Attraction?

Is it? Are you sure?

Yup.

Alright, well there you go.

It's Shrekcellent!

Shreksy?

Shrektastic.

By the way, we didn't come up with that, that's in the attraction that they said all the time.

I have to say, the actors were very good but they were a bit over the top sometimes.

They have to be.

There you go.

Answers to all of Google's questions.

I feel like we contributed to the world now.

Positively.

Right now we're trying to go to one of our favourite pubs called Gordon's Wine Bar.

Which is London's oldest wine bar.

New plan.

They were completely full.

Unsurprisingly.

It's very hard to find a table in there.

Yeah so we're going to go home, get some cheese, some wine.

UPDATE.

New new plan.

We're going to St. James's Park which is another thing on TimeOut London's list.

Because we're feeling in the mood to tick another thing off the list.

And we're quite close by.

You haven't seen the last of us today.

You've not seen the last of us today.

We're in the household cavalry or the horseguard.

The cavalry headquarters and you can see it's a big open space where they do a lot of parades

and I guess there was an event here.

I didn't know they did these.

Oh absolutely.

And that's St. James's Park over there.

- And past that is Buckingham Palace. - Let's go.

This park is so peaceful.

It's a really nice park.

What's the one in Nottinghill that's also really nice?

Holland Park.

It's on the list.

The Kyoto Gardens, I haven't seen the Kyoto Gardens so I didn't go.

I did.

You went!?

Yeah with Pino.

You went without me?

We were trying to find you.

Excuses.

I never do anything without you.

Aww....

Na nah!

That is a strong gate.

It's like, "look at me I'm a gate."

You were just a floating head again.

You have to stop being a floating head.

We thought where better place to do our new Google project about St. James's Park than

right in front of Buckingham Palace?

Is St. James's Park open?

Yes.

Is St. James's Park tube open today?

Dunno.

Probably.

Probably.

Unless there's some kind of problem.

God forbid.

Is St. James's Park station open today?

Actually I've never been to St. James's Park station.

That's probably one station I've never actually been to.

Oh really? Fascinating.

Is St. James's Park safe at night?

Well, I would say that no parks are really safe at night.

I think by the time it gets dark, you should probably try not to be in a park.

Is Buckingham Palace haunted?

Probably.

Is Buckingham Palace open?

Can you go inside?

Yeah I think there are tours.

We should do a tour one day.

It's not on the list.

Is Buckingham Palace near Big Ben?

Yeah, it's pretty close.

Is Buckingham Palace in Central London?

Definitely.

Is Buckingham Palace free?

It's free for the Queen.

I don't know but I'm almost certain that it's not.

But yeah, as Andres said, for the Queen it's definitely free.

Alright, shall we actually head home now?

Yeah.

We're on our way home.

So I'm going to end this now.

you think we should be doing in London, let us know in the comments section.

You live in me And it still hurts

But I won't cry anymore

You return to them And I return to you

Again, my friend There's nothing I can do

But I've grown And if you love me let me know

I remember all the times you said That you wanted me alone

But you've changed your mind

And I won't be here this time

So now, I have to learn What I should know

Your words they burn Inside my soul

But I won't cry anymore

Another fabulously kitted out pup was dressed either as a storybook gypsy... or Captain Jack Sparrow

The pooches were impressively dressed in an array of costumes, including this one dressed as the devil

More than 100 adorable dachshund pups have taken part in St Petersburg's sixth annual costume parade

Previously, the event has been specifically timed to coincide with City Day and Children's Day in the major Russian city

There was even a spot of cross-species-dressing, with one cute pooch dressed as a cow

This dog, dressed as a Chinese emperor to match its owner, appeared to be in equally high spirits

The only thing that I ask If only you could have loved me a little more

You can turn on a coin And fool me again with a new disguise

But the dots didn't join Now I'm finding the truth hidden in your eyes

I'm learning not to feel

So don't look like you're concerned We both know that's not true

You haven't figured out I'm such a part of you The part that slipping through your hands

Stone is made of sand Stone is made of sand

I learned to keep it inside Hidden safe in a box deep in my heart

But now I'm ready to smile A new beginning it's time to make a start

To rewrite history To do what's right for me

You haven't figured out I'm such a part of you The part that slipping through your hands

If You Don't Do THIS Every Night, Your Face Will Age Sooner Than You Expect - Duration: 2:49.

If You Dont Do THIS Every Night, Your Face Will Age Sooner Than You Expect

How many times have you felt too lazy to wash off your makeup before going to bed?

If you often choose not to go through this nighttime ritual, you should know that leaving

your makeup on overnight can bring more harm than you can imagine.

Bright Side came up with this list of 8 reasons why you should always wash off your makeup.

Always.

1.

Preventing acne

If you think this problem occurs only in teenagers, you couldnt be more wrong.

In fact, acne can make a comeback if you dont wash your face.

Clogged pores usually lead to pimples and inflammation.

If you suffer or have suffered from acne, use special non-oily and easy-to-remove makeup

and a micellar water to wash it off.

2.

Delaying the aging process

No, its not a myth.

Its been scientifically proven that every night your skin regenerates itself.

If its not clean, it will age more quickly.

You wont be able to avoid flaccidity, and premature wrinkles will appear sooner than

you can imagine.

A couple of minutes spent on this nighttime routine will help you stay young and beautiful.

Its so worth it!

3.

Nourishing your face Skin cells regenerate faster at night, so

help your skin with this process: remove makeup, and then apply an astringent and moisturizer

with antioxidants.

Theres nothing better than going to bed with a clean, refreshed face.

Also, remember that using high-quality makeup is vital for your skin to be healthy.

Poor- quality makeup can damage your skin and lead to serious problems.

4.

Fighting allergies

Your skin may be prone to allergic reactions, even if youve never noticed any visible

symptoms.

Sleeping in your makeup can cause eczema and other serious health problems.

The symptoms dont appear immediately, but if you dont remove your makeup before sleep,

youll soon notice redness, burning, and itching.

5.

Avoiding skin pigmentation

Have you ever noticed those dark spots on the face that some women cant cover up

even with the best base available?

The appearance of such spots isnt always related to frequent sun exposure or the aging

process.

They can be the consequences of chronic allergic reactions if you dont clean your skin properly.

Wearing your makeup overnight can actually cause some serious pigmentation disorders.

Riffing on Making Images (One's Your Neighbor With a Rebel Can't) - Duration: 9:16.

Just riffing off yesterday a little bit

"show me something I haven't seen before"

I think what that does is it it's

incumbent then on the photographer to

push themselves harder than the cliche

or the easy shot in most of the

photography that that I think is going

to win out there it's not the easy shot

that's going to make the difference

especially in commercial photography or

editorial photography we try to sell

your creative abilities your abilities

to solve problems the easy shot isn't

going to work if the job is to shoot a

can of hairspray or a bottle of wine and

you just set it there and put a light on

and take a picture what how is that

better than them getting a CGI

representation of it how is that better

than them just doing it themselves one

of the things I tell my photography

students is you've got to show me a

picture that my mom couldn't do on her

iPhone or that your mom couldn't do on

her iPhone so I say picture this your

neighbor just got a rebel or Nikon or

maybe they got a cool little Fuji for

Christmas and they've got a lens for it

and they're just out taking pictures of

kids and stuff and just having a ball

they have no idea how to use the camera

to its potential they're just having fun

with it nothing wrong with that at all

my question is the photograph you do for

your portfolio

could they have done that photograph if

the answer is yes we have a problem

because if that's as far as you're

willing to push your own work to be as

good as somebody who's only been

shooting for four months that's not

pushing hard enough

that's not trying hard enough that's not

it's not you know grasping the situation

that we have in front of us which is to

make a unique and compelling image it's

so easy to make photographs these days

and I know some people would argue with

me but there's I'm sorry then it's easy

it's really easy compared to how

difficult it was to make photographs 20

years ago and 20 years ago it was a hell

of a lot easier than it was 30 years

before that and that was a hell of a lot

easier than it was at the turn of the

century it's become easier and easier

because it's an art form based on

technology it's just as hard to do a

jeté and a leap as ballet it's just as

hard to play a violin today as it was 50

years ago it's not as hard to make a

photograph we can grab one of these and

we walk out the door and we can make a

photograph a pretty good photograph

actually a photograph that meets

whatever criteria we may want to apply

to it but it's got to go more than just

is it sharp and is it in focus and is it

got good color because that's a it's a

no-brainer now we knew that the idea

that we can make a better photograph

starts with us understanding our gear

our limitations and what's inside of us

as far as a desire to push ourselves to

do something really really hard and you

know what's really really hard to take

an amazing or unique photograph these

days a photograph easy a photograph that

means something much harder a photograph

that means something and speaks volumes

to what it means way to hell harder

because as the bar for technology goes

down the bar for saying something

important goes up and I'm not talking

I'm not talking about making photographs

that are like earth changing or life

changing or you know the famous

photograph that Eddie Adams took

the South Vietnamese cop shooting the

Vietcong in the head which many experts

believe and I believe was the end of the

Vietnam War that was it it turned so

many people against the war you know one

photograph black-and-white grainy

photograph taken on an icon changed the

course of human events that's a powerful

photograph not talking about those I'm

talking about photographs of what we do

as commercial photographers jewelry beer

shots all of those things can you make

it something even more special and

especially now that we have

post-processing cooked into the pie used

to be you take the photograph on a sheet

of ektachrome or a frame of ektachrome

Kodachrome or whatever was that was it

they can do a little bit you know when

they made the separation they might pull

a little saturation or something but

that was it now when we shoot we can

actually plan our post-processing

as part of the photograph and I don't

care if it's multi image composites or

just a straight photograph we can plan

our post to be a part of the image

taking experience when I photograph

these days well when I fought it for the

last 30 years when I make a photograph

when I've got the camera up to my eye I

see the finished print I see the print

the touchable print even though I don't

print as many pictures as I used to

that's still what I see in my head the

finished print burned dodged vignette

'add whatever and I'm thinking as I'm

taking the photograph I'm seeing this

finished picture so I'm already jumping

ahead to the post-processing knowing

what I'm going to do does that mean that

serendipity eyes and jump in there and

change my mind no sometimes you get in

our own Photoshop or Lightroom and

you're you're working your plan and you

think what if I do that I just

if I just slide this and something else

comes your way but she still started

with a plan because you saw it in your

head

you pushed yourself to make an image

that was not just a snapshot or a

capture of a moment or an event one of

the things I have the photographer's do

is to go out and do a street portrait

the reason I tell I call it a street

portrait it's not street photography and

it's not a voyeuristic photograph it's

not stand across the street with a 200

millimeter lens and photograph that guy

over in the shop who doesn't know

they're being photographed

I mean intentionally going up to a

stranger and asking them to take the

photograph and then I want the

photographer's to move them from where

they are get comfortable with asking

them with all thank you for it can I put

you by this doorway now we're not going

to go hey can we walk across town to

this cool bridge I saw that's not the

point we're just going to move them a

little bit out of space you know why we

do that because we take control and once

we take control we own the frame it's

ours we put them in them in that doorway

we set them up we are the photographer

we're not just letting chance happen we

are making that image and it's up it's

quite a challenge but it's what we have

to do to make an image that is not

cliche that is not a snap or a grab shot

it's not what your next-door neighbor

would do with his rebel and kit lens

it's not we've changed it up for what we

see up here if we're not seeing stuff up

here then I think there's two sorry

there are two things that we need to do

more of number one take a hell of a lot

more pictures number two look at a lot

more pictures we've got to become

visually literate not just about

photographers the people who went before

us but about our own work about the

craft of photography become visually

literate

and it will help you make images that

are more interesting in the long run

that captivate more and push you farther

and farther towards finding your own

voice in photography it'll be quite a

challenge it really is but the harder

you work the more successful you become

it's magic that is see you tomorrow

《Comeback Special》 SEVENTEEN (세븐틴) - Don't Wanna Cry (울고 싶지 않아) @인기가요 Inkigayo 20170528 - Duration: 3:24.

Don't wanna cry.

Don't wanna cry.

Because I love you, because saying I love you

Isn't enough, no matter what I say.

Leaving me, who cherished only you, where did you go?

Did you go far away because you didn't like me anymore?

Don't toy with me.

I know you are there.

I feel like you'll come around, so I wait and wait.

I need to go find you.

Go find you.

If I cry now, I may not be able to see you so..

Don't wanna cry.

Don't wanna cry.

Tears have welled up but,

Don't wanna cry.

This familiar road, feels so unfamiliar.

Asking me once again if this is a road I know of.

Could that person be looking for me?

I'm looking for you.

Don't toy with me.

I know you're there.

I feel like you'll appear, so I wait aimlessly.

I need to go find you, go find you.

Tears are building up starting to blur my vision.

Don't wanna cry.

Don't wanna cry.

Tears have welled up but,

Don't wanna cry.

I'm fine ( I'm not fine.)

I don't want to see you. ( I really want to see you.)

With the words that I don't mean

I have to lie, I have to lie

My heart won't listen to me

Come back, come back, come back.

When half of me is gone, how can I live as one?

Don't wanna cry

Don't wanna cry

Don't wanna cry

Tears have welled up but,

Don't wanna cry.

Don't wanna cry.

When we see each other again.

Don't wanna cry.

"I don't have anyone to practice speaking English with..." - Duration: 13:18.

hi there I'm Drew Badger the world's

first and number one English Fluency

Guide and it is a pleasure to welcome

you to a new video here on YouTube and

in this video this is something that I

really get asked about a lot and this is

I don't have anyone to practice speaking

with so how can I find people to

practice speaking with especially native

English speakers alright now if you look

at most of my videos and you scroll down

in the comments there are people asking

each other hey we should make a Skype

group or meet me in whatsapp or get on

Facebook and let's do this like do not

do any of that stuff I'm going to tell

you right now it might be helpful but

there are much better ways to practice

and that's what I'd like to talk about

in this video so if I see those comments

down below I'm going to be very

disappointed so you should be not

following that advice you should be

following the advice I'm giving you in

this video because this is how I learn

to speak and this is how a lot of

learners that want to improve quickly

are improving their pronunciation their

use of vocabulary their automatic speech

or their grammar use all of these things

come from practicing speaking and if you

understand how to meet native speakers

the right way and it becomes much easier

to do that so let's get into that in

this video all right the first thing you

have to understand about practicing with

native speakers or just practicing in

general is if you practice with people

that are at your level you're going to

stay at this level so this is why I

don't recommend people using forums for

other English learners we do have this

when people join like the the fluency

course or master English conversation

people are invited to learn and to

connect with other people and many

people do but I always recommend and

this is why we actually teach in the

program lots of different ways to help

people connect with actual native

speakers because if you practice with

people at a higher level than you that's

going to pull your language up they

might not necessarily be able to correct

all of your language because if you're

not really a teacher of the language you

might not know why we do things in

English but at least it gives you a

correct model for you to follow and this

is the same way that native speakers

learn so young children are following

their parents and very few people are

actually native teachers of the language

even when they're just practicing with

their kids they're just speaking in an

everyday condo

stationed away and children are getting

to understand the basic rules just by

copying what their parents are doing so

you should be doing the same thing again

if you spend time trying to meet other

people like if you're in the comments

right now saying hey we should meet and

connect with each other why waste your

time doing that when you can connect

with actual native speakers now the

second part of this is if you want to

connect with native English speakers

then you have to actually offer them

something of value in return now if you

go to a person say hey can you please

practice speaking with me I really want

to improve my speaking all you're doing

is just requesting that person to take

their time and their energy and even if

they don't know how to teach the

language you're basically putting a

burden on that person and that's what

makes it really frustrating for a lot of

people when they're trying to learn

because they're going to people and

they're saying hey can you help me with

this can you help me can you help me

instead of how can I help you so the

most important thing about this is when

you're trying to connect with other

people the same way I was trying to

connect with Japanese speakers when I

was learning Japanese or at least at the

beginning I've got plenty of people know

plenty of Japanese speaker Japanese

speaking friends now that I can

communicate with both online and in

person but to get to that level I had to

think how can I offer these people

something they want and it doesn't mean

you have to pay them or anything like

that but typically this is just the same

way you would meet an actual friend

where you live you know like a person

that speaks your native language so when

you're communicating with people and you

say hey if I just walk up to someone say

hey please be my friend they're going to

look at me and think well that's kind of

a weird question like I don't know if we

really connect with each other why do I

want to be your friend why is it why is

it important for me to do something like

that in the same way that you are

looking for something of value to you

other people are looking for something

of value to them so you have to respect

that and you have to understand that

thing so the more you give the more

you're going to get from other people

that are trying to help you practice now

the next thing you have to do is stop

wasting time in comments like these like

videos just like this you scroll down

below this video people looking for

people to comment or people to practice

with and I'm sure they will like you

will absolutely see comments like that

below the video it might even be from

people that have not

watch the video and learned an even

better way to do it right in this video

unfortunately but that's how life is you

can lead a horse to water but you can't

make him drink this is a great English

expression or a proverb you probably

have something similar in your own

language so you can you can present

information you can make it available

that you can't make people consume that

information or that knowledge anyway so

once you understand the first step that

you should not be practicing with people

at your level if you want to improve you

need to practice with people just like a

sport you have to practice with people

that are better than you you have to

play against people that are better than

you if you want to improve and the

second part of that is that you have to

give in order to get so you have to give

a reason why people are trying to have a

relationship with you and because of

that what I really recommend you do is

actually go to where the fish are if you

want to catch the fish now this is

another idea of like like native

speakers are not going to be watching

this video or if they are they're

probably teaching the language or

somebody that's just trying to get some

information or for like YouTube was like

hey watch this video and then they're

going to comment below this video like

I'm a native speaker why am i watching

this video and so that's why you're not

going to get many people down below this

video or in this video watching this

video that are native speakers so this

is not if you want to go fishing for

native speakers this is not a place to

do that you have to go where native

speakers are now if you live in an

english-speaking country like the United

States the United Kingdom Canada

Australia wherever or even just an area

where you live that has a lot of native

speakers that's great then you can just

start connecting with people personally

but when you walk up to them just treat

them like a regular person you don't

have to begin by saying help me improve

my my English just start speaking with

them and even if you make a mistake it's

okay native speakers will probably be

happy to to connect with you but again

you have to do it where you're just

trying to meet the person the same way

you would meet someone that speaks your

native language you don't walk up to

them and just say hey help me with my

whatever you try to offer them something

it's like hey like those are some nice

shoes you have there you know you may be

giving them a compliment or connecting

with them in some way like I see we both

like the same

sports team or whatever you're making a

connection with that person and that's

where the communication develops but in

the case of you know maybe somebody

that's online you don't live in a place

where they're native English speakers

you have to connect with people online

the truth is that native English

speakers are in every country on the

planet if you mean if you have access to

the Internet and you're learning English

and you probably can maybe find

somewhere somewhere close by in your

country or in the next town or something

some large city where you live it you

could probably travel to and meet native

speakers there but the best way to do

that first is through online forums

where you're actually connecting with

native speakers as opposed to non-native

speakers so when I was giving some

advice to a learner not that long ago I

was in Vietnam and so I was talking with

learner there about like okay here's how

we can connect with people and like if I

just wanted to meet somebody online

because she was saying oh I have

problems may be meeting native speakers

even though native speakers are

everywhere so you could be even in the

same room but people don't end up

connecting with each other so if you

help these people this is just one way

to do it if you're online so let's say I

live in Japan so I do live in Japan I

can do this exact same thing and I want

to learn maybe Japanese or something

actually now let's see let's use the

example of like Vietnam like I just did

so we're in Vietnam and this student is

Vietnamese but lots of foreigners

english-speaking foreigners are coming

to Vietnam and in Vietnam

you have a lot of people that maybe

they're coming there some foreigners

that don't really understand maybe

things about Vietnam or what are the

best places to travel because people

read guide books online but really

foreigners want to connect with locals

as much as possible this is why air B&B

is such a popular thing and this is a

way of traveling and staying at people's

homes as opposed to staying with you

know a hotel something like that so it

could be a little bit cheaper in some

places but also people get to connect

with actual local people so it makes it

makes for a really great arrangement for

people and that's how you can also

improve your your language ability as

well but in these situations you have a

lot of foreigners that come there and

there are forums for foreigners either

we're living in your country so in the

case of Vietnam we would just look up

foreigners we go to Google or whatever

search engine you want to use and you

type in foreigner or or like forum for

visitors or people living foreigners

living in whatever country you're in and

so we find that we go to the first

couple of forums and we see wow there

are a lot of people chatting they're

talking each other and these are all

native speakers and this is your chance

to give to these people all you say you

create an account with one of these

things and to say hey like you just you

start answering questions that people

have because that's what people do these

foreigners they come to your country

like Americans and they don't know what

to do they don't know where the best

restaurants are they I don't know like

what places they should go or should not

go to so if you can give to these people

before you try to get from them any kind

of language help this is what's going to

help you connect with lots of people and

you can spend an afternoon like just an

hour going in maybe answer ten different

questions people have and develop a

relationship with those people and if

they're traveling like let's say you

live in like Ho Chi Minh City or you

live in Tokyo or wherever any place

where they're going to be foreigners

then you can connect with them and say

hey like if you want to meet we can I

can like show you some of these places

around you know where we live and

especially foreigners like people coming

from the United States or the United

Kingdom they're happy to connect with

locals because it's a great way for them

to have a better vacation to get some

great stories for people back home and

you can be a part of this so if you

think about giving to these people first

and thinking also about fishing where

the fish are so don't look for native

English speakers in the comments below

this video look for them where they are

so especially whether you're in the

United States or United Kingdom if you

have an opportunity like that you can

just think about your interest and then

go to those places you know actually try

to associate with native English

speakers it's really easy because

they're everywhere whether you were in

an english-speaking country or not so

again think about giving think about

fishing where the fish are and then

actually trying to connect with these

people by helping them in some way

so the forums online are a really great

way to do that just think about some

places where you can connect with people

and then offer them help and say

if you need like whatever like people

are saying like what's the best place to

do is how do I do this how do I do this

how do I do this it's the exact same

thing I'm doing right with these videos

people have all of these questions about

how do they learn how do I meet people

to practice with how do i improve my use

of grammar so I can say it automatically

how to improve improve my pronunciation

in my accent all I'm doing is answering

all these questions it's not a mystery

here and by giving I receive a lot from

all the great learners that are helping

me do what I want to do so it's a

fantastic arrangement and you can do the

exact same thing but it just begins with

going to where people are the actual

people that should be helping you if you

want their help and this is again why

you should connect with native English

speakers because they're going to

increase your level they're going to

pull you up to a higher level as opposed

to working with other learners that are

going to maybe help you a little bit but

again you're going to get much more

support and help from people that are

native speakers if you give to them

first and treat them in a good way well

that's it for this video these are the

things that we do in mastering this

conversation and the fluency course

where we go through lots of different

techniques just like this ways that you

Why Don't Humans Live for More than 100 Years? | Physicist Geoffrey West - Duration: 13:12.

You can determine, calculate many things about organisms, about their growth patterns, how

they grow, how long they take to mature—and in particular one that concerns many of us,and

that is: how long we live?

What determines our longevity?

And, in fact, that's what got me into this work originally was I became very intrigued

in my fifties about the phenomenon of aging and of dying that I became more and more conscious

that things had been changing in my life in terms of my body and my physiology.

And that already I'd had friends die.

And so I became intrigued as to "what is that?"

And I also became intrigued very much as a physicist not asking what is the mechanism,

the systematics about aging and immortality, but the very question "What determines 100

years for the lifespan of a human being?

Why is it a hundred years, not a thousand years or a million years?"

And also related to that, why is it that a mouse, which is made of pretty much the same

stuff as we are (I mean we're almost identical really in some kind of coarse grained level

looking at things), how come a mouse only lives two to three years?

So what is determining all this?

And if you have this theory of networks underlying these scaling laws, manifesting themselves

as scaling laws, you first ask: is there a scaling law for lifespan?

So this is work that had already been done by many people; was to look at lifespan as

a function of size, for a bunch of mammals in particular but organisms in general, just

as we looked at how metabolic rate scales across these animals.

And what was discovered, what had been discovered was that lifespan also increases following

these quarter power scaling laws—that it increased systematically.

The one difference by the way, and maybe I'll say a few words about this in a moment, is

that there's much more scatter among the data for lifespan compared to things like

metabolic rate.

So even though there is a kind of predictability—that is, you give me the size of a mammal, I will

tell you on the average how long that mammal will live—there's much more variance around

that number than there is for saying "you tell me the size of a mammal, I will tell

you what it's metabolic rate is and what the length of its aorta is, how many children

it should have" and so on, where there's much less variance.

The variance is much tighter.

Lifespan has much more variance.

Now where does that number come from?

So you have this theory that the scaling of metabolic rate and these many other quantities—and

by the way there's probably 50 or 75 such measurable quantities—these are determined

by the constraints of flows in networks such as the circulatory system.

So one of the things you immediately realize about those flows is that they are what we

call "dissipative," which simply means they involve wear and tear just as, you know,

outside in those streets outside this building there's a lot of traffic going back and

forth on the roads and those roads wear out.

They have to be repaired.

The roadways have to be repaired and the subways have to be repaired.

They wear out from the traffic so to speak.

And so it is the traffic through our multiple network systems produce wear and tear.

And the most damaging wear and tear occurs at the terminal units, the terminal points

of these networks because they're the smallest tubes like in our capillaries or within our

cells and pushing fluid, pushing blood corpuscles or whatever it is, big molecules through them—has

deleterious effects of various kinds.

That causes damage, and that damage is calculable because you have a theory.

The theory is telling you what the flow rates and so on and all the sizes are and so on.

So these are calculable.

Now so you can calculate the rate at which wear and tear is occurring, and you can also

calculate something else that is going on, and that is: while it's being damaged there's

also repair going on.

And we do repair ourselves.

But that repair is also determined by metabolism.

That's where the energy comes from to do repairs.

So you can determine all these things and then you can postulate that the system will

become nonviable, that is it can no longer be sustained when a given fraction of un-repaired

damages occur.

So the system eventually just cannot be sustained and so that gives you a calculation of maximum

lifespan.

This is the, you know, if you were to do the best you possibly could this is as long as

you could possibly live for a given size of mammal.

And if you do that you can understand where, roughly speaking, this hundred years for a

human being comes from.

But more importantly or equally importantly you can determine what the parameters are,

the knobs that you could conceivably turn to change that lifespan.

What could you do to make that go from 100 to 200, for example?

And there's two pieces of that.

One is you can decrease, of course, the wear and tear, or you can increase the repair.

Those are the two obvious things, and there are parameters that determine that.

So if you think about the damage that is occurring from metabolism—so that means okay, one

way we could decrease damage is decrease the amount of food we take in.

That would be one way.

And indeed by the way, the reason a large animal lives longer than a small one is because

the metabolic rate per unit mass or per cell gets systematically smaller the bigger the

animal, corresponding to these quarter power scaling laws.

So less damage is done at the cellular level the bigger the animal—in a systematic way.

So the question is: how do you decrease that even further?

One is you can eat less, and that's called caloric restriction.

So if you put yourself on a starvation diet it may not be so pleasant in terms of your

lifestyle, but this would predict that you live longer.

And there have been experiments done, on mice in particular and some on monkeys, most of

which show an effect, and the effect is calculable in this theory.

And many of the experiments done on that agree with the data that's been taken—on mice.

There have been some controversial experiments on monkeys which have not shown as big an

effect.

So this is still very much a work in progress, but there's another way you could also decrease

your metabolism, and that's a way that is very difficult for us but interestingly is

very easy for almost all other organisms on the planet.

And that's to do with the fact that we are unique in that we are what's called "homeotherms".

Namely we keep the same temperature.

We discovered this extraordinary mechanism of keeping our body temperatures constant.

That is fantastic because it dissociates us from the external temperature, the environmental

temperature.

Everything else is subject to the ambient temperature in their environment.

And here's why it matters: It's because metabolic rate is derived from chemical reactions,

and chemical reactions depend exponentially on external temperature, on the temperature

which they're operating.

That means a small change in temperature can have a huge effect.

So a small change in temperature, a small increase in temperature increases your metabolic

rate exponentially.

So that's why if you look at insects in the cold—when they're cold in the morning

they can barely move.

They have to wait until the sun comes up to warm themselves and then they can start flying

around and moving around and so on.

That's true of lizards and so on, essentially everything that's around us.

We are immune from that and that's been extraordinarily powerful for us and a tremendous

advantage.

Going back to lifespan, that means that if you could lower your body temperature you

would decrease your metabolic rate and you would decrease therefore the damage, and you

can live longer.

And that is indeed true of organisms, all other organisms.

If you keep them at low temperatures they live exponentially longer.

They live much longer so it's a fantastic effect.

It's a huge effect.

And by the way one tangential remark for that—and that is a critical one in our times—and

that is to do with global warming.

One of the things that I think is a bit mysterious to many people, in the kind of intelligent

layperson, is that: why should one or two degrees change in the ambient temperature

around us make any bloody difference to anything?

After all where I live the temperature often changes by 40 degrees from night to day.

So we have these huge changes, yet the ambient, you know, just this little increase in the

ambient, in the average temperature have such a big effect.

The reason is that things like growth rates and death rates and everything to do with

growing and therefore agriculture, but the whole ecosystem, the whole biosphere is exponentially

sensitive to a change in temperature.

So one to two degree change has an exponential effect, and some of that is, from our viewpoint,

highly deleterious and some may actually be advantageous.

But I think this is an incredibly important point that—I'm afraid I'm a little bit

critical here of my colleagues who work in global warming—they have not been very good

at getting this across, especially obviously to politicians and especially, of course,

the politicians in the United States.

But going back to the more parochial issue of lifespan, if we were to take drugs that

could lower our body temperature (and this has actually been done for mice again) it

increases concomitantly their lifespan.

Decreasing their metabolic rate increases their lifespan.

And that's been seen and it is in agreement with the theoretical predictions.
