Coronation Street's Shayne Ward opens up about people commenting that he's "a little bit bigger" than he used to be
Shayne Ward has opened up about his body insecurities.
The actor, who plays Aidan Connor on Coronation Street, is one of a number of new male faces getting involved in part two of Loose Womens Body Stories campaign, during which he opened up about his own bodys story and how it feels when people comment upon his weight.
Shayne first made waves in the showbiz world as the winner of the second series of The X Factorin 2005, and speaking as part of the campaign he stressed that of course his body is going to have changed in the 12 years since then.
If someones just going to comment on the fact that Im a little bit bigger than I used to be, Im 32, he said.
When I first joined the pop industry I was 21, so of course my bodys going to change after that amount of time.
Being in the public eye can make you more conscious, without a shadow of a doubt, and thats whats great about this campaign.
He continued: Hopefully this campaign will give men the confidence to talk about body confidence issues, because a lot of it is thrown away as banter; Ah youve got a bit of a belly, So have you mate.
And then its done, but actually, once that conversation stops and someone starts to talk about something else, youre left with that, thinking, actually I do feel like Ive put on a bit of weight.
This campaign is going to be brilliant for that. Shayne became a dad at the end of last year, welcoming a daughter with his girlfriend and former Hollyoaks star Sophie Austin.
And, not only is Sophie showing her support by sharing her pride at Shaynes part in the campaign on her Twitter page, but it looks like Shayne is hoping to open conversations and help pave the way for a more body confident world for his daughter too.
I found the womens version very sexy, because you look at all the different shapes and sizes and you could see how confident they all felt around each other, and thats what its about, he added.
And thats what its going to be like when you see the guys campaign. Joining Shayne in the campaign are Robbie Savage, David Ginola, Bruno Tonioli, This Mornings medical expert Dr Ranj, Judge Robert Rinder and boxing icon Frank Bruno.
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12. 30pm on ITV, with the Loose Women: Body Stories continuing tomorrow (September 25), while Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
