- This is How to Drink,

the show about making cocktails

and how to drink them.

I'm Greg, and I have never been a professional bartender.

I've never even had a job in a bar.

I don't worry too much about precision

and technique because at the end of the day,

if the drink you like is in the glass,

we did it right.

Let's get going.

Let's make a Jersey Sunset.

This is a variation on a Sling from like the 1890s.

I don't think I've ever seen this served anywhere.

I'm from New Jersey though so...

Think of it like a classier Tequila Sunrise.

We're gonna do a half an ounce of Gomme Syrup

for this drink

Uh, we're gonna do two ounces of Apple Jack.

In this case, this seven and a half year old

Laird's Apple Brandy.

A lot of people don't know that prior to prohibition

the most popular distilled spirit in America

was Apple Jack.

As a matter of fact, the entire slogan

"An apple a day keeps the doctor away,"

was invented by, basically ad men,

on behalf of the apple grower's industry

because the only function for apples at the time

was to make cider and Apple Jack.

So they came up with the idea that apples were healthy

and that an apple a day would keep the doctor away.

And there we have apples,

and the idea that you should eat them

and not drink them.

We need a twist of lemon for this drink.

Uh, for a couple of reasons

because of the way this drink gets built,

I'm going to twist it over the mixing glass

and not the serving glass.

That's pretty good.

As a matter of fact, I'm going to throw that

right into the mixing glass in this case.

I'm gonna fill this with cracked ice and give it a stir.

(upbeat jazz)

I have my Sling glass ready.

I'm gonna strain this over it.

(jazz music)

The reason it's called the Jersey Sunset

is because of this float of bitters

that we're going to add to the top of it

that's going to cascade down, hopefully.

Hopefully.

The original recipe calls for the use of Angostura Bitters.

I'm using the Creole Bitters from the Bitter Truth.

One, I love the taste of these bitters.

I often at night after work,

I just have some Creole Bitters and seltzer.

I'm actually running kind of low.

Uh, and, also I really thought that the

super bright red color here would be perfect for this drink.

Let's give it a taste.

I'm ready for this.

That is a fun drink.

That's kind of like nothing else I've ever had.

I mean, that's really really really unique.

You really get the apples.

This is a great autumn drink.

It's a Jersey Sunset.

It's a classy drink for a classy state.

Uh, and it is though, because we call it Apple Jack,

but it's Apple Brandy.

You know, this stuff is not

armpit of the country booze juice.

This is legit stuff.

The Japanese-English Quiz!!

About Japanese English. Yup!

Because we have a lot of foreign fans, I think we need to explain what it means.

To say it simply,

It's the English that Japanese people use.

But that doesn't mean that they are using the word correctly.

The way they use the English word is different from other (English speaking) countries.

And the meaning might be different.

That's way it's "Wasei-Eigo." Wasei=Japanese, Eigo=English

English only used in Japan.

Also to put it out there,

Katakana English and Wasei-Eigo...are they different? I don't really know.

It's basically the same right?

Katakana is.....how would you say?

Words that make English easier to read.

Not just English. Non-Japanese words.

Not just English. German or French, etc. Words from other countries. Like we change them to Japanese.

It's easier for Japanese people to say.

Ok! So,

Oh, sorry, I forgot to explain the rules! What game is this?

Not a game, a quiz.

So you have to guess whether a word is Wasei-eigo, or it's a regular word used abroad. (mainly America cause that's all I know lol)

Starting!

Is it Wasei-eigo or regular English?

Pajama is...

Maybe it's a word from a different country..

Like French...

It's really from Europe maybe.

It doesn't really matter where the word comes from! I mean, I think it's wasei-eigo.

You think it's wasei-eigo? Meaning it's not used the same way in nothing countries?

Well, I think Americans don't use it.

What I was saying before was it's a word from a different language maybe.

So you think Americans don't say "pajamas"? No they don't.

the anwser is...

"Pajamas" is.....regular English!

We do use it!

Ah, like a pajama party! Yup!

Also, for kids, *Explaining my onesie footed pajamas lol*

That's also very pajama-like wear.

So like,

Japanese pajamas and American pajamas aren't that different?

Not at all. I see.

Clothes that you sleep in we call pajamas.

Especially clothes that really seem like pajamas. Like clothes you would only sleep in.

Then it's the same. The same!

Pajamas! I got it wrong.

Don't worry. Don't worry. Well, that's an X mark for you.

Wasei-eigo or regular English?

I've got a feeling it's wasei-eigo. Why?

Like the word "holder"....

Key holder might sound like a holder only for keys.

Cause you don't only strap a key holder to your keys.

Ok, What???

Sorry! Just tell me.

The answer is,

Wasei-eigo! You're right!!

That's right. In English we would say a "key chain".

And that's something you don't only strap to keys, right?

Nope. Key chain is the same.

Just like how it's said, a key chain would be used for your key so you don't lose them or to decorate.

But people strap them to their phones or their pants or bags. And wallets too.

Yea, like that. Like how you say "charm" in Japanese. (phone charm=phone strap)

I see so a key holder is, basically the same meaning as a key chain?

Yup. I see.

Wasei-eigo or regular English?

Cooler is.... yea, wasei-eigo.

What do you think "cooler" means in Japanese?

I know what it means when Japanese people say cooler.

Air conditioner? Yes, right?

Well, I guess you're right.

You're right! Cooler is wasei-eigo!

It's called an Air Conditioner. Air Conditioner...

*In Japanese they also say "air-con" for short*

It's called Air Conditioner because it is conditioning the air. (Shogo Logic)

I understand. Ok, next one!

What you put over your ears.

I think it's wasei-eigo.

Wasei-eigo? Ok, so what do you think it's called in American English?

Isn't it earphones?

That's true.

Or "Head Holder"?

Is that wrong?

That's cute, head holder..

Then it's earphones.

"Earphones" is also correct but "Headphones" is regular English!

We say both of them.

So these headphones? Yup.

But you are saying phone. Doesn't that mean the telephone?

Yea, well...

I don't know. I can't tell you where the meaning came from,

But headphones were the old ones that you put over your ears.

And that continued until earbuds came out and we called them earphones.

That's what it means... Yes.

We use it in English! I see.

That's an X!!

Ok next is,

I have a feeling it's wasei-eigo. You think so?

I'm saying everything is wasei-eigo!

But I mean,

instead of saying handkerchief,

Isn't it like a hand towel?

That's smart thinking. So, what's the answer?

And the answer is,

It's regular English! We use handkerchief.

Handkerchief sounds like something in Katakana.

Oh but actually,

It's called handkerchief in Katakana English and regular English.

That's why, You don't say, "han-ka-chi" (Katakana english)

It's not called "han-ka-chi" but the word is the same.

This is the Wasei-eigo quiz, not Katakana. True.

Ok, I got an idea.

Next time you see a Japanese person ask if they have a handkerchief. (with an American accent)

"Do you have a HANDKERCHIEF?", "What?"

But the words aren't so different.

"Do you have a HANDKERCHIEF?" Like that.

"Sorry, I don't....",they'll say.

Well, Americans barely use them. Just Japanese people.

I think if you visit America not many people use them.

Eh, why?? :(

So what happens with people use the public bathroom and wash their hands?

We use the dryer or paper towels.

When there isn't any, you use a handkerchief.

You wipe your hands on your clothes. Like this huh.

There probably aren't any young people who use them.

But you use the word handkerchief?

We say it. But, I'm not sure if this generation knows what a handkerchief is.

That much?? It's not use... I think so. It's not used much.

Next time let's ask my sister's children if they know what it is. I'll ask.

You know right?

Anyone can wear.

Isn't it English?

Regular English? Ok.

The answer is wasei-eigo!

I'm getting them all wrong!

It's ok, don't worry.

In English we say, "One-size" or the long version, "One-size-fits-All".

Meaning anyone can wear this size.

If you say "free-size" I think people might understand.

They will put it together. Like "free-size" meaning there is not specific size.

But maybe, it's a little strange.

Cause no one says it right? Yeah..

I was really needing her to be in a school that was going to challenge her

Did you ever expect to be able to afford to send her to a private school?

No, not at all, I have nothing against public schools, but

It's a difference between public, charter, and private

and with private it seems that they one on one, take their time, and challenge those kids

Do you know what you want to be when you grow up?

I want to be a lawyer

Because I don't want to be like other people around here, doing drugs and stuff like that

A major reason that Kariah is even able to attend St. Francis Xavier School

is because of the work of Virginia Walden Ford

Virginia is from the side of the river herself, and is really considered the mother of the entire program

The D.C. opportunity scholarship is a federal voucher program

that benefits low-income kids in Washington D.C.

At the beginning there was a lot of opposition

and included, unfortunately, kinda broke down in party lines

Democrats were pretty much against it, Republicans were pretty much for it

The myth, you know the teachers union script

is that it takes money away from public schools

and if you can't serve one child, you shouldn't serve any

Which absolutely makes no sense to me

It's good for single moms like myself, this program has been such a big help

my daughter is in before and after care

she's at school between six and eight, and she doesn't get out of school until six thirty in the evening

Which gives me time to work, come home, get settled, do my homework, then pick her up from school

Kids like Kariah have really touched my heart

those are the reasons that I fight

and mothers like her mom

who clearly only wants what's best for her child

that's why I stand

It just affords us all a chance to do better

So, for those who are nay-sayers

Put yourself in our shoes

My favorite subject is math

My favorite thing to do at school is eat

and, the teachers that I love the most

is Miss Harris

Miss Catrell

Miss McKinley

and all the other teachers

The most beautiful thing that exist in Mauritius are it's beaches

We can say that they are 3/4 of the time safe to swim or to roam around.

The sun that reflects on the water makes it more mesmerising .

It's Food

Mauritius has a large variety of food .

& Desserts Jelly ( la mousse)

There is a pool of food

Culture

It is a multiracial country which comprises of different religions

Like : Catholic , Hindu , Muslim , Tamils , Telegu , Chinese and many more .

All Mauritians participate in all festives and they enjoy to the fullest

Mauritius being a Tropical Island has lots of fruits like Coconut and lots of vegetables .

Which many countries don't have .

We are lucky , i must say .

As Mauritius is a Tropical Island

It has its rain , sun , cyclone , flood and even drought

Its neither too hot nor too cold

One can adapt easily

Travertine Tiles Two Side Filling - Duration: 2:45.

Hello and welcome to Natural Stone Outlet.

Today, we're filming in Turkey, in a

city called Denizli, which is one of

the hearts of the Travertine, Turkish

Travertine. Today, we're going to

introduce a fairly innovative

product, which is a 1 centimeter to 1.2

centimeter travertine tile, with the two

sides filled. As you know, Travertine has a

lot of holes,

and normally it´s filled, to increase the

resistance. So, what it´s done on this

specific tile is to fill on both sides.

So, instead of having a 2-centimeter

tile, you can get 1-centimeter for a

similar strength. So let's have a look..

I'm going to explain a bit about the

product, so after all this production

process, this is what we get. We get a final

selection of Travertine between Class 1, 2

or 3. So, here what we have is a

Travertine tile, 30x30cm,

surface is honed.

This is a Classic Travertine, Denizli

Travertine, it's cement-filled and what's

particular about it is that the back is

also filled. So we have a tile that

has double resistance, let's

say. It has much more resistance

than if you just fill one side.

So all the holes of the Travertine tile are

filled, so this adds a lot of resistance

to the stone and this would be the final

appearance of the stone. I'll get some

more tiles to show you.. beautiful

Travertine, look at that! First selection

Denizli Travertine, you can´t get much

better than this in terms of beige Travertine.

Look at that, it´s beautiful, the best you can get in

terms of beige Travertine. Very nice, pretty

uniform, not so much colour tone variation.

There's a good flow on this

material.

In addition to the beige Travertine, you

can do the same with all kinds of

Travertine. So that's it,

what it's a fairly innovative product.

Probably some people are doing it, other

people are doing it, but what we

find interesting is that with a very

thin material, very thin tile, you can get

much more resistance. If you
