Diminished but dignified Wenger's future in the air after FA Cup final feat - Duration: 7:58.

Diminished but dignified Wenger's future in the air after FA Cup final feat

After a win over Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley, its clear Wenger would love to keep his job but it is in the hands of others at the club.

Arsene Wenger fumbled in his pocket and pulled out his FA Cup winner's medal for the assembled media to inspect. "For once I have keep my medal so it is a special night for me," he said.

The Arsenal manager is in the habit of giving his winner's medals to members of staff who don't make it to the podium or get one of their own.

Having watched his players deliver a performance which restored their manager's dignity, Wenger made a point of demonstrating how much this one – above the other six he has – meant to him.

On the pitch, he had lifted the cup three times over his head, giving the Arsenal fans the opportunity to commend him on a record-breaking victory.

When the champagne was flowing though and the selfies being snapped, Wenger was far away; up towards the halfway line as the players converged on the Arsenal end. The Frenchman stood apart; observing rather than taking part in the end-of-season celebrations.

Up in the posh seats in his pin-striped suit sat Arsenal's majority shareholder Stan Kroenke. He will have been satisfied with the title but bigger business awaits.

Kroenke is due to meet with Wenger on Arsenal territory on Tuesday with the not-so-inconsiderable matter of the manager's future on the line. Would his seventh FA Cup title factor in discussions over his future?.

"It would be a bit ridiculous that 20 years depends on one game and that the future of the club depends on one game," he said. "We will know more next week.".

Uncertainty over what path Wenger will take has unquestionably overshadowed Arsenal's campaign.

"This season has been hurt by a blip in March and as well I am convinced now, looking back at this season, by the uncertainty about my future with the players," Wenger said.

It was widely assumed that it would be Wenger's decision to make when it came time to call it quits. The way he spoke on Saturday, though, unfolded the possibility that it was the board who would make the call.

It is apparent that Wenger wants to stay but he admits that the power is no longer in his hands. There is no perfect way [to leave]," he said. "I just want to do well for his club.

After that it is down to the board members [to decide] whether Im the right man to take this club further and for me to decide am I the right man to take this club further.

Its not about popularity its about competence.

That competence has been called into question more than once during this hostile season. A defeat to Liverpool stirred the disquiet.

Damaging losses in the second half of the season to Watford, West Brom and Crystal Palace followed. Had Arsenal won those they would have comfortably walked into the top four.

The virus of Arsenal Fan TV infected right-thinking supporters, giving legitimacy to lunacy and reducing the level of discourse over Wenger to infantile rambling.

Every supporter is entitled to air their grievance but the storm of vindictiveness towards Wenger was disgusting. It had its effect, spreading among fans and prompting marches and protests against the single-most important man in the club's history.

"Wenger Out" became a meme. Every jackass from one side of the world to the other brought along a pathetic homemade sign to any occasion they thought a smartphone might capture them. A winner of 16 major honours reduced to bantz.

I feel I am in a public job, I accept to be criticised and I accept that people don't agree with me," he said. But, once the game starts, as a fan you stand behind the team.

We played some games in a hostile environment and I cannot accept that..

It stung Wenger and turned the tide of opinion against him. Arsenal fans willing to admit – even after this cup win – that they want Wenger to stay are in the minority.

All sense of perspective lost. Three FA Cups in four years and this the first time they've failed to finish in the top four in 20. If that is what a crisis looks like, then I'd like to see stability.

It would appear though that even Wenger senses the sea-change. Arsenal's fans talk about the possibility of a new two-year contract like it's a prison sentence. Never mind the doubles, never mind the Invincibles, only what happened this season matters.

And, yes, Arsenal have finished beneath where they expect but that is no reason for haste.

Wenger remains a top draw for players, with Mesut Ozil on the record as to how much of an influence the manager was in his decision to join. Aaron Ramsey pledged allegiance after scoring the winner in the cup final.

Wenger has demonstrated a canny tactical nous over the last quarter of a season, betraying those who said he was out of touch.

His back three very nearly got Arsenal back into the top four and was the defining factor in seeing off Chelsea.

He delivered this FA Cup to an Arsenal supporter base scarcely deserving it. They were sheepish in their praise for Wenger after, cognisant of the abuse they've meted out this season.

This would be a dignified end for Wenger – a proud man. But he is so proud that he would dearly love another shot at shutting up the baying masses.

Where once it looked like he would call the tune, it now appears that his power is diminished. He is just a vulnerable man standing in front of his boss with his medal in his pocket asking for one more chance. .

Divock Origi 201617 Season Review Moments of promise in 11goal season but more required - Duration: 9:03.

Divock Origi 2016/17 Season Review: Moments of promise in 11-goal season, but more required

Few Liverpool players made less progress this season than Divock Origi, with the Belgian showing flashes of quality but flattering to deceive too often.

This time last year, not many Reds squad members were held in higher esteem than Origi. The young Belgian had enjoyed a very impressive second-half of the season, with his performance in the Europa League, in particular, worthy of huge praise.

Injury had ended his 2015/16 campaign prematurely, due to a shocking challenge by Everton's Ramiro Funes Mori, but if anything, Liverpool not having him available enhanced his reputation further.

This season was supposedly going to be one that saw Origi go up another gear, as he threatened to become one of the Premier League's most fearsome young strikers. It didn't pan out that way, however.

Divock Origi, 2016/17 (All competitions). Started: 21On as a substitute: 22Unused sub: 4Goals: 11Assists: 3Average TIA Player Rating: 6. Fringe player early on.

Despite his efforts the previous year, Origi didn't manage to force his way back intoJurgen Klopp's starting lineup in August.

Daniel Sturridge found himself in exactly the same boat, too, with the trio ofPhilippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino very much Klopp's first-choice front-line.

Origi was introduced as a second-half substitute in the 4-3 win at Arsenal on the opening weekend, but his cameo summed up many of his performances in 2016/17.

He failed to get into the game, offering little as a target man and almost being a hindrance to the rest of the teams. Things weren't much better at Burnley in Liverpool's next outing.

A first goal of the season at Burton in the League Cup did at least get Origi's campaign up and running, but his chances continued to be limited in the Premier League.

Another relatively ineffective cameo was produced at Tottenham, although he offered more when brought on in the 2-1 victory away to Chelsea.

A second goal in as many League Cup starts came Origi's way against Derby County, with his excellent finish almost identical to the one he scored atSouthampton in the same competition last season.

Having continued to warm the substitutes' bench throughout the autumn, the 22-year-old was finally given a run of matches, due to an injury to Coutinho. Best spell of the season.

Origi's best moment of the season at that point came in the 2-0 win at home to Sunderland – the game that saw Coutinho leave the field early.

It was the Belgian who replaced the Brazilian with 33 minutes on the clock, and he made himself a hero on an afternoon that proved frustrating for long periods.

With time running out and Liverpool looking like dropping points at home to the league's worst team, Origi curled home from the left-hand side in front the Kop, sending Anfield wild.

It seemed to act as a confidence-boost to the striker, who then went on a very productive run of form in front of goal.

He wrapped things up in the League Cup victory over Leeds United, before his stunning finish from a tight angle put the Reds 2-0 up at Bournemouth.

Klopp's men may have lost 4-3 in depressing fashion, but that should take nothing away from the brilliance of Origi's goal.

He made it four in as many matches in the disappointing 2-2 draw with West Ham, and for good measure, he scored in a fifth consecutive game at Middlesbrough.

Origi's display at the Riverside Stadium was one of his best of the season. Unfortunately, that pre-Christmas run would end up being the high point of the Belgium international's season.

In fairness to Origi, almost every Liverpool player fell off a cliff in the early months of 2017, but his form felt particularly frustrating.

Having not had too much football under his belt he was fresher than most, and with no Coutinho or Mane in the picture, he had a wonderful chance to impress Klopp.

After his goal at Boro on December 14, he scored just once up until the end of March – a late consolation in the FA Cup defeat to Wolves in January.

Not only had his prowess in front of goal deserted him, but he was too often a static figure up front, losing possession too easily and blunting an attack that had looked so magnificent without him.

In January, February and March, Origi had just one performance that was given higher than 6. 5/10 in our post-match player ratings, which is telling.

In the final couple of months of the season, there were moments to shout about here and there, but he was still a far cry from the player we had witnessed score both home and away against Borussia Dortmund a year earlier.

A good strike at home to Everton helped kill of Liverpool's Merseyside rivals, and he also nodded home against Bournemouth and poached a late effort in the 4-0 thrashing of West Ham earlier this month.

Eleven goals for the season should never be ignored, especially with 22 of his 43 appearances coming from the bench, but they masked some limp performances. In a season that saw many Liverpool players improve, Origi went backwards. Improvements & future role.

It is common knowledge that Klopp is set to spend big this summer, and competition for places mean Origi really needs to find another level.

At 22, he is fortunate that time is still on his side, but youth can only be used as an excuse for so long.

The likes of Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku are of a similar age, at the end of the day.

With Firmino a favourite of Klopp's, Sturridge potentially sticking around and a new striker likely to come in, Origi has a right to feel concerned.

That being said, he remains a player with many things in his locker to become a top striker one day, and selling him would be a mistake.

A squad role next season makes sense – even a loan move to somewhere like Rafa Benitez's Newcastle isn't the worst idea – as he looks to overcome a disappointing campaign. Best Moment: The goal against Bournemouth.

Worst Moment: 3/10 performance at Stoke. Role next season: Squad player.

New Zealand Under 20s lose to France, but progress at World Cup - Duration: 2:35.

New Zealand Under 20s lose to France, but progress at World Cup

France 2 New Zealand 0. Allan Saint-Maximin of France scores his second goal. New Zealand have qualified for the round of 16 at the FIFA Under 20 World Cup despite a 2-0 defeat at the hands of France.

Two stunning first half goals from French winger Allan Saint-Maximin were enough to hold off a Kiwi side who looked capable for patches, but were still well outclassed.

However, New Zealands four points from three games was enough to see them finish second in Group E, which books them a Round of 16 clash on Thursday night (NZT) against the USA.

If Darren Bazeleys side can play like they did in the opening stages against France, they could be a threat for an upset, after dominating the first 10 minutes of action.

Two excellent chances were spurned as New Zealand controlled the contest, despite the departure of Clayton Lewis and Dane Ingham to Confederations Cup duties.

Unfortunately for Junior All Whites, that would be their best moments of the first half as France quickly took the ascendancy.

Kiwi keeper Michael Woud was kept busy with an array of shots, before two moments of class from Saint-Maximin proved the difference. A mazing run set up his first; a fierce strike which Woud got a hand to but couldnt keep out.

The second was a howitzer, picking out the top right corner from wide out on the left wing. Whether it was intended to be a shot or a cross, only he will know, but the ball rifled into net, leaving Woud stranded.

Woud was forced into action plenty in the first half, keeping the score respectable as France fired 16 shots compared to New Zealands two.

After a long spell of struggling to penetrate the French defence, New Zealand had more luck in the second half, with Sarpreet Singh and Myer Bevan both having chances to peg a goal back.

The French resistance was strong though, with New Zealand requiring a greater clinical edge in the knockout stage.

Chinese tourists to Korea fell 47% in April y/y, but overall numbers rise - Duration: 0:44.

April was good month for South Korea's tourism industry.

According to data from the transport ministry on Sunday, some eight-point-seven million

foreign tourists visited the nation last month... up roughly three-point-eight percent from

a year earlier.

Tourists from China declined by almost half on-year: from 1-point-seven million to just

900-thousand.

That can be chalked up to Seoul's decision to deploy THAAD.

The U.S. anti-missile system deemed a necessary protection against Pyongyang's threats is

perceived as a security threat by Beijing, leading China to carry out retaliation measures

including a virtual travel ban to South Korea.

But the boost in visitors from Japan and Southeast Asian nations easily made up for that loss.

Upper South Island quake assessments near halfway, but settlements lagging [ NEWS ] - Duration: 4:20.

Upper South Island quake assessments near halfway, but settlements lagging

Upper South Island quake assessments near halfway, but settlements lagging      .   A shortage of tradespeople to carry out earthquake repairs is a concern in the Marlborough region.

As insurance assessments in Marlborough near the mid-way point, people affected are still worried about the supply of tradespeople to do the repairs.

Flaxbourne Settlers Group chairman Stuart Oulton said of people he knew locally, some seemed to have been paid out fairly quickly but probably the majority were still waiting for payouts.

He said there were also people in the area who had not yet had an insurance inspection, which was quite concerning.

A big worry for everyone was the shortage of tradesmen for repairs.  Oulton said people were waiting months to get a builder or even a quote. The other concern in the region was heating, as many lost their heating source in the quakes.

Marlborough District Council earthquake recovery manager Dean Heiford said people needed or wanted face-to-face time with earthquake-related organisations, to talk about their individual needs. Even a simple thing like firewood is something that people are sort of asking for help with.

Local groups such as the Seddon Lions Club and the Rural Support Trust had started assisting with firewood. Insurance Council of New Zealand figures showed 9282 residential building claims were made in the upper South Island, north of the Waimakariri River, near Rangiora.

Flaxbourne Settlers Group chairman Stuart Oulton said heating was a concern for those who had lost their heating sources in the quakes.

At the end of April, 4176 of those claims (45 per cent) had been assessed.  Full settlements had been made for 1233 claims, or 13 per cent, with a value of nearly $37 million.

Insurance Council chief executive Tim Grafton said the time between assessment and settlement was typically four to 12 weeks.

Marlborough District Council earthquake recovery manager Dean Heiford said through ongoing communication with rural communities, it was apparent people needed or wanted some face-to-face time with earthquake-related organisations, to talk about their individual needs.

He said people want to understand the specifics of their own issues, especially people with land damage. Then weve got individuals who either havent had an assessment or dont understand their assessment.

Heiford said it would be easier for people if they had some certainty about aspects such as the timing of assessments and payouts.

We are tending to get those that are totally frustrated coming to us, and its only a small percentage, probably the ones that are most vulnerable.

Grafton said feedback from the Marlborough communities was that their information needs were moving from the general to the specific.
