One Question: What can neuroscience tell us about anorexia? - Duration: 1:30.
Anorexia nervosa is a complex mental
illness with symptoms of severe
weight loss and this comes from
excessive dieting and excessive exercise
Patients are hungry, they're starving but
they are unable to eat because they are
so fearful of gaining weight and because
when they see themselves in the mirror
they think they look fat even though they are not.
The malnutrition
and depression that accompanies anorexia
nervosa makes this the deadliest of all
mental illnesses. Many think that
illness is due to media and society,
however, neuroscientists have shown that
ordinary female adolescent rats and mice
can be induced to become anorexic too.
So, neuroscientists are able to use the
animal model to answer the question:
What about hunger changes the brain to evoke
excessive exercise and voluntary food restriction.
What might be the
differences amongst individuals that
make some of them more at-risk?
Answerse to these questions should help us with
designing new pharmacological treatments
that can put a break on the
maladaptive behavior and also protect the
recovered patients from relapsing.

Why PRP Alone Can Help Short-Term Hair Growth, but Cannot Stop Hair Loss Progression - Duration: 9:36.
Thank you for your question.
You're 25-years-old. You submitted several photos showing the top of your scalp and you
state that you had one PRP session and that you're still dealing with a lot of hair
shedding. And you state that you're on finasteride, minoxidil, you're taking a fish oil. And
basically, you have a short list of follow-up questions. First, you're asking should you
go for a second session. Will a second session help reduce the hair shedding? Will there
be any thickening of the hair after the next session? Will there be any change in the pattern
even though you've lost a lot of hair? Certainly, I understand your anxiety with this situation
as a younger person who's losing hair.
I can certainly give you some guidance as to how I treat patients like yourself who
come to our practice pretty much every day. A little bit of background, I'm a Board-certified
cosmetic surgeon and Fellowship-trained oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgeon. I have
been in practice in Manhattan and Long Island for over 20 years. I'm also the founder
of TrichoStem™ Hair Regeneration Centers. This is a system we developed as a non-surgical
alternative to hair transplant which ultimately has been also an alternative to the drug finasteride
which I'll discuss further. And we have patients who come from around the world for
this treatment which has been very successful for people such as yourself.
Just to kind of go over what you have been doing and certainly, it seems you are covering
all bases. You're doing the maximum medical therapy which is the use of finasteride as
well as minoxidil. Those are the two drugs that can have any effect. And I think it's
reasonable to stay on these drugs. And the reason I'm saying that when, essentially,
your clinical picture is a younger person who is aggressively losing hair which means
the genetics is fairly aggressive. And although you've gotten one PRP injection, you're
still noticing hair shedding.
I think it's important for you to understand that PRP stimulates hair growth. It doesn't
necessarily stop progression and this is probably what you are experiencing.
Now PRP or platelet-rich plasma has a variety of benefits and we use it in our practice
every day for a variety of uses. We use it for dark under eye circles, we use it for
acne scars, we use for it for skin rejuvenation, we use it for fine lines and wrinkles. But
the limitation I've seen with PRP as a standalone for hair loss is that it's basically, again
my experience, short-term burst of growth but it doesn't stop progression.
And so, in situations like yours, we've actually developed a treatment that evolved
out of doing hair transplant. And I'll explain further. We were using a material called Acellular
matrix to help improve the outcomes of hair transplant. Basically, the challenge with
hair transplant is to make sure that maximum number of grafts survive and that the donor
area heals as well as possible. Well, a serendipitous observation was that thinning hairs became
thicker. And what I did was I decided to focus on developing a system to see if this was
reproducible because it wasn't necessarily happening to every patient and my question
for myself was can we do this to help people with thinning hair instead of doing a hair
transplant.
Well, it took several years of development and a lot of challenges to overcome, a lot
of setbacks along the way but essentially, we developed a system called Hair Regeneration.
Hair Regeneration does us PRP but we use it in combination in a very specific way for
different types of patients, for male, female, based on age, type of hair loss. And I do
the treatment in a way to deliver the material in way that will actually do several things
which potentially can be a benefit. Basically, stopping the progression of hair loss, reactivating
and re-growing hair that is in a prolonged resting stage as well as inducing the shed
of thinning hairs so that thicker hairs can grow in.
Now we do have 99% of men and women responding to this treatment. There are occasionally
people who do not respond to this treatment. But in the grand scheme of solutions, it has
been a remarkable development in the treatment of hair loss which is why people come to us
from around the world. I think that in a situation like yours, I would say that, if you are unable
to do a treatment like Hair Regeneration, there is possibly some potential benefit to
just following through doing some PRP injections but unfortunately, in my experience, it will
not be a long-term benefit for you. We have found that a lot of people come to us after
going for PRP injections once a month and usually at the 4th month, they get tired of
doing it and they're not sure if they're getting any benefit. And you wonder how sustainable
is that.
Hair Regeneration for our patients has been, for the majority, overwhelmingly, has been
one injection that has continued to provide stability for more than 5 years. We customize
every treatment and we've incorporated a second injection as part of the treatment
to help strengthen hairs that are very fine that were literally saved from disappearing,
those hairs seems to be responsive in a lot of patients to the second injection usually
done between 15-18 months after the first. We refer to it as the booster injection. But
comparatively speaking, there's no comparison between this treatment and PRP being done
at a regular basis.
But I would say that the significant and important limitation of our treatment is the inventory,
the inventory of hair that is salvageable. The more hair that you come in with, the more
hair follicles we have to work with, the better the results can be. So we advocate getting
patients who are noticing hair loss as early as possible. Right now, our youngest male
patient is 17 and our youngest female patient is 16. And we have been, like I said, very
successful with this treatment. Basically, for a younger person like yourself, you're
doing all the right things to try to slow down or stop your progression but I think
that if you want to learn more about a treatment like Hair Regeneration, you might find value
in comparison to just standalone PRP.
So I hope that was helpful, I wish you the best of luck and thank you for your question.

Kate Middleton Depressed After Giving Birth To Princess Charlotte – Prince William Can't Get Her - Duration: 2:09.
Prince Williams wife Kate Middleton gave birth to Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana
in May 2015; however, the Duchess of Cambridge has been MIA and hiding out at Amner Hall
ever since.
According to a new report, Kates reluctance to head outside might be the result of post-partum
depression.
She suffered from a similar funk in 2013 after she gave birth to Charlottes older brother
Prince George.
The June 22 edition of National Enquirer reveals that Kate Middleton is having a terrible time
adjusting to life with a newborn baby, and hasnt been herself since giving birth to
Princess Charlotte.
A royal family insider dished to National Enquirer, Shes really down in the dumps,
and has been getting teary-eyed and irritable.
Its like Kate is crashing back down to Earth after the jubilation of giving birth.
Kate has been so down that she is simply hibernating.
Everyone, especially William, has been trying to coax her out again, but nothing seems to
be working. Of course, the stresses of having two babies
to care for instead of one is enough to make anyone irritable, not to mention she has her
mother Carole Middleton living with her and breathing down her neck.
Also, Kate Middleton is reportedly having a tough time shedding the pounds since Princess
Charlottes birth and has even been rumored to be doing dangerous juice diets to get back
down to her pre-baby weight.
That could also be one of the leading causes of Kates depression, and if she is starving
herself that would explain why she is irritable and emotional.
Do you think that Kate Middleton is suffering from postpartum depression?
Could it be just the stresses of having a newborn baby in the house again, or something
much deeper?
Will she bounce back or have to seek help?

Can This Supplement (ZMA) Actually BOOST Testosterone? - Duration: 2:45.
New supplements popup all the time, all of which promising to help you reach the mythical
fountain of gains.
Sure enough, ZMA supplements are of similar variety, making claims that it can boost testosterone,
help with recovery, and promote muscle protein synthesis.
All the ZMA rage started back in 1998, when a study observed Division II football players
taking this new ZMA tablet, and found a substantial 30% increase in testosterone levels and 250%
greater strength gains than a placebo.
Quite a miraculous breakthrough.
However, it was found that the study was funded by the company that created the supplement,
SNAC Systems Incorporated.
AND, one of the authors, Victor Conte, is the founder of that very same company.
Side note: He's also the founder of the company BALCO of the infamous BALCO scandal,
which exposed the company for distributing banned substances to high-profile athletes.
So, that leaves doubt to the initial study, but does that mean ZMA is completely useless?
And for the most part, no, but it's not because ZMA does anything magical.
It's actually just three critical micronutirents that our body needs!
Zinc, a mineral where if you're deficient will result in decreased serum testosterone.
Magnesium, which is the second most commonly deficient micronutrient behind Vitamin D and
has been thoroughly found to slightly improve sleep quality.
And Vitamin B6, a multi-purpose coenzyme that might aid in energy production.
If you're already consuming enough of these three, then ZMA is essentially ineffective.
As far as their claims, independent studies pretty much showed them to be largely untrue.
Aptly summarized by a 2004 study, "ZMA supplementation during training does not appear to enhance
training adaptations in resistance trained populations."
Granted, athletes and lifters might be deficient from these nutrients due to exercise, but
there are many natural food sources to replenish them.
To name a few, oysters, beef, fish, sunflower seeds, bananas, spinach, nuts, chicken, brown
rice, avocados, and turkey.
So, my final verdict on ZMA is that, unless you're deficient in any of the three nutrients
in it, ZMA, by and large isn't necessary.
So that means for the most of you, you can skip this one.

How Can Sonic Run Around Loops? | Science of Sonic The Hedgehog DECONSTRUCTED - Duration: 6:27.
Hey there, and welcome to Play Noggin.
I'm Julian, your brain's Player Two.
Few characters embody the 90s like Sonic the Hedgehog.
At the time of the first Sonic game's release, he oozed more attitude than any game character
before him.
I mean, come on.
Did you want to play as a chubby plumber in overalls?
Or a way-past-cool hedgehog with rad red sneakers?
Probably, the choice wasn't up to you -- you got the mascot of whichever console your parents
bought for you.
But for Sega kids in the 90s, Sonic was THE BEST.
Sonic's whole thing is his speed.
The opening song of the good Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon makes the claim that he's "the
fastest thing alive."
Yeah, I called it the good one.
Come at me.
Now, in reality, hedgehogs aren't known for their speed.
In fact, they top out at around 10 kilometer per hour (~6 mph), and even then they only
achieve that speed in short bursts.
They do roll up into balls to protect themselves, but spin dashing is right out -- their quills
would catch the ground and keep them from going anywhere.
And in the wild, foxes prey on hedgehogs.
Sure, Tails might LOOK adorable, but he's making plans.
Dinner plans.
Eesh, get away from me, you little monster.
Anyway, let's assume he is the fastest thing alive except for when Eggman is making his
escape.
Then he must be faster than the real world record holder, the peregrine falcon, which
tops out at over 320 kilometers per hour.
Maybe that's not a fair comparison, since the falcon hits ludicrous speeds thanks to
gravity and amazing aerodynamics while Sonic's got to do it by pounding pavement.
The fastest thing running is of course the cheetah, which can clock in at 120 kph in
short bursts.
If we want to be even more generous, we can say Sonic is the fastest thing on two feet,
beating out the ostrich's top speed of over 97 kph.
Of course he's named Sonic because he's supposed to be able to run at the speed of
sound, which is 1,225 kph at sea level.
It gets slower with altitude though because sound travels through air and when it gets
thinner, the speed of sound slows.
You may have noticed I'm meandering a bit and that's sort of the point.
Sonic's speed has been done to death, and you'll get a hundred different answers depending
on who you ask or what game you play.
Players who have measured his height and compared it to the time it takes to complete a level
report he only runs 36 kph, but he's been different heights in the same game.
The game claims he can run at the speed of light provided he's wearing the right shoes,
which is impossible IRL, regardless of how fabulous your footwear.
So rather than muddle through all that we wanted to narrow the focus a bit and look
at how Sonic's speed relates to how he handles loop-de-loops.
Admit it, when you were a kid playing Sonic 1 for the first time, the moment Sonic flew
down a hill and up and around a loop, you lost your prepubescent mind.
It's nothing to be ashamed of.
The human body was not built to handle the Sega Genesis's BLAST PROCESSING.
We take it for granted that Sonic, moving as fast as he does, could easily clear a loop
like that.
But what sorts of physical laws are at play to make that possible?
Whether it's Sonic or a toy car or a real car, it's amazing to watch something do
the loop de loop because our experience tells us that at the top of the loop it should just
fall down.
That's the point where gravity is pulling on Sonic and the track has flipped from supporting
him to working against him.
So just what's keeping him up there?
You may have heard the term centrifugal force used to explain what keeps objects from falling
down, but it turns out it doesn't actually exist.
Sure if you've ever ridden a roller coaster through a loop it feels like something is
pulling you outward, but it's an illusion.
If the roller coaster car were to suddenly derail it would shoot off tangentially to
the loop before horribly killing you because objects have a property called inertia, and
when they're in motion they tend to travel in a straight line unless acted on by an outside
force.
That "outside force" pulling you in towards the middle of the loop is called centripetal
force, and in the case of the roller coaster or Sonic's loop it's provided by the track.
Combine inertia and momentum, and to the object in the loop it feels like something is pulling
it outward.
That's the apparent force known as centrifugal force.
Still, you can use this apparent force to calculate just how fast sonic would need to
travel to avoid being a spiky splat on the ground below.
Up there gravity is pulling him downward, and assuming he's on Earth it's doing
it at about 9.8 m/s2.
So Sonic has to be traveling fast enough at that point that at the very least, the force
of gravity would make him travel in a curve that's the same radius as the loop.
The formula for that equation is Velocity = the square root of gravitational acceleration
times the length of the radius.
Since gravity is always going to be the same, that means that's sonic speed for successful
loopage is dependant on the radius of the loop, and the bigger the loop, the faster
he goes.
Though it doesn't scale linearly.
If he was in a loop with a 5 meter radius, he would have to be going 7 meters per second
at the height of the loop.
If he ran into a circle with twice the radius, 10 meters, he wouldn't have to run twice
as fast, but just under 10 meters per second when he hit the apex.
It's important to note that at that speed he would start losing traction because he'd
be going just barely fast enough to stay on the track, so to be safe he'd have to run
a little faster to keep his feet planted.
And he'd need a higher entry speed because he'd lose some when he started going uphill
and had to fight the force of gravity on his way up.
Keep that in mind if you're going to try this at home.
Also don't try this at home, just play Sonic instead.
Or ride a roller coaster or something.
Of course a roller coaster isn't a perfect comparison.
They're clamped onto the track, so even if it doesn't have enough speed to make it
around the loop, worst case scenario you get stuck upside down while you wait for rescue
and the lunch you just ate to show up.
Not comfortable, but better than plummeting to your death.
While you're up there you might notice that the loop is not a perfect circle like the
loops in Green Hill Zone.
They're slightly more tear-shaped, as though they were pinched at the top.
These are known as clothoid loops.
And they have some advantages over perfectly circular loops.
Because the initial curve has a longer radius, riders don't feel as many gs on the gentler
curve.
But because the radius at the top of the loop is much smaller, the car doesn't have to
travel as fast to clear it.
It also means that the car can have a lower entry speed, and you want that as a rider
because a coaster car, unlike Sonic, doesn't have a way to propel itself.
Still if you need to feel like a hyperfast bolt of blue, a roller coaster is the closest
to being Sonic the hedgehog most of us are ever going to get.

Fruity Ice Pops You Can Eat for Breakfast | Food Network - Duration: 1:45.
Hi, guys. I'm Vivian.
And I'm from Food Network Kitchen.
And today, I'm going to teach you
how to make a breakfast strawberry chia pop,
if I can ever get it out of the mold.
So first, you want to mix a can of evaporated milk, lime juice.
Rolling it helps to get all the juices going.
My neat little trick is to use it
in between tongs, because I'm not that strong, surprise.
And you squeeze it.
Then you mix in the honey.
And then, last but not least, you're
going to put in chia seeds.
You're going to stir this.
And you're going to let it get all plump and squishy.
And that's going to take about two hours.
So it's been two hours.
And all the chia seeds are nice and plump right now.
I stirred it halfway, so it didn't become this
ginormous gloop on the bottom.
And then what we're going to do now
is stir in some strawberries, get molds, take out the sticks.
All righty.
And you're going to pour it in up to the fill line,
put the little sticks back in.
And you're going to pop these in the freezer
and go to bed, because you're going to have
breakfast in the morning.
So good morning.
Our breakfast popsicles are all ready.
I ran them under a little hot water,
so you can just get yank them out.
Ta-da!
And they're only 120 calories.
And I have breakfast for a week.
So have a good day.
Bye.
