See, we had a deal in place.

Whatever they told you, it isn't true.

I didn't steal anything from them.

I want to believe you,

Clementine, I do,

See, Leanne? She's dead.

And for the moment, our deal is dead along with her.

But, between you and me,

I think that we can come up with a better one.

I just need to know what makes you

Nothing.

Please. Wait. No...

Come on, is it something you know?

Something you have?

Something you took?

Thomas Lemar to Arsenal: What we know so far - SPORTS NEWS - Duration: 4:17.

Thomas Lemar to Arsenal: What we know so far

With £52million statement signing Alexandre Lacazette through the door, the Gunners hope to lure another attacker from Ligue 1.

Manchester City and Real Madrid reportedly lead the race for Monacos teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe, and Wenger appears ready to admit defeat in that race with Lemar his main target.

Monaco were understood to value Lemar at £30million in June, and the Gunners tested the Ligue 1 champions resolve with a bid slightly under only to be quoted double.

Lemars valuation is likely to have increased from that initial figure after a number of key Monaco departures - Manchester City signed both £42m Bernardo Silva and £52m Benjamin Mendy, with Tiemoue Bakayoko joining Chelsea for £40m.

If either Man City or Madrid do land Mbappe - with world-record fees of over £140m being reported - Monaco would have even less inclination to sell another key member of their title-winning team.

However, recent reports suggest that a new £45m bid from Arsenal could be enough to seal the deal. When asked for an update on Arsenals pursuit of Lemar, Wenger said earlier in July: Nothing really concrete.

Tottenham were understood to be keen, but that interest has since cooled. What is Arsenals budget?.

Standard Sport reported in June that Wenger has been handed £100m to bolster his squad. The manager has recommitted for another two years and confirmed soon after that he was targeting a maximum of three new players this summer.

Even following the club-record arrival of Lacazette from Lyon, and Sead Kolasinac through the door on a free transfer following the expiry of this Schalke contract, Arsenal have the money in the bank for another big arrival.

How much does Wenger want him?. Lemar has been Wengers main focus since wrapping up the deal for Lacazette, but will not be held to ransom by Monaco.

A quote of £60m is a step too far for Wenger, who has been willing to spend big in recent windows but breaking Arsenals transfer record twice in the same summer is unlikely.

Focus will be switched to Leicester Citys wantaway winger Riyad Mahrez should a pursuit of Lemar prove fruitless, while Lucas Perez is almost certain to leave after his No. 9 shirt was given to Lacazette. Is he good enough?.

Robert Pires, no stranger to running down the wing in France and England, is a big fan, telling Sky Sports: I love him as a player.

For me, Thomas Lemar is one of the best French players there is. He can play on the left, he can play on the right, he can score goals and he can make assists.

Lemar is the kind of player who can make a difference. He has the right profile to play for Arsenal, definitely. I hope for him and for Arsenal that it happens..

Pires praise is well-earned, with Lemar notching 14 goals and 14 assists from the Ligue 1 champions last season.

He also no doubt endeared himself to Arsenal fans after scoring decisive goals in both of Monacos wins over Tottenham in last seasons Champions League.

How we built OUR brand - The 9to5 MisFits. - Duration: 8:03.

Today at our Getting Real segment, we're talking about

Building Your Personal Brand! How exciting!

Ayo! We're the 9to5 MisFits, Pavi + Nammy back again to help you

crush unemployment, and find your dream career.

We're going to talk about our stories and how we built OUR brand!

On Tuesday, we talked about tips on

how to actually build your brand.

The first hack was, 'Beginning with the end in mind'

This is not always easy or apparent.

Especially if you are a MisFit or

embarking on a new journey.

You may have some fuzzy goals, thats how we came together

because

we'd both been besties for a while, and then we both became unemployed

, we were having a conversation and realized

this person, and that person is unemployed..

its kind of awesome that we have each other

as a support system so why not just do

that for everyone on YouTube, and so

we started with the goal being

helping others going through the same thing as us.

by talking about a topic

, a 'taboo' topic,

talking about it more openly

We had no idea in terms of concrete goals

, what that would mean? And thats okay. Thats the thing

, then we went on to figuring out what our Value Prop was

, what do we offer?

And that was

another reason why we got together

, because we had different skill sets

For the 9to5 MisFits, different things that we

were able to offer was that something that has such a

stigma associated with it, you wanna give people

a constructive solution out of it, because no one else is talking

about it, everyone has created a stigma around it

So we decided to look at this topic that has

an emotional angle,

that's serious

and take a light hearted approach

that way you can cater to everyone, you're trying to

tell them that this is not the end of the world

, you're gonna be fine, you're gonna have us as a family

to go with you along the way, so just

take something serious and spin it with a light hearted approach

is what we were able to bring to the table, and we also

realized that a lot of Indians/ Brown people are not talking about this

AT ALL!

We're in communities that are so

full of high achievers

, everyone is a Doctor, Lawyer or Engineer

, so talking about unemployment is unheard of

, but there are a lot of people going through it who are silently

going through it by themselves, so we thought that

let's just be the voice for all those types of people

, and that kind of became our unique selling point

, especially for Indians, and women, in general. We

are more reserved..so its really hard

to talk about stuff like that.

Then we had the question of, how to actually communicate this

brand and message to everyone?

Ofcourse, YouTube is a natural, its a Social media Channel

, so there is one readymade way to get your message out

, but with our community and the types of people we are trying to reach

, they're not necessarily on YouTube, so that was

bit of a struggle, initially.

Ofcourse, we also had to do a ton of in-person networking

, so we started going to a lot of networking events and a lot

of places where we would naturally find those people.

We'd be like, 'Hey, Hey, we have a YT Channel'. And other than that

networking thing, we also used other social media

to the best of our ability, cos YT was not necessarily our platform

, cos our audiences are not on there all the time

a lot of our age group is on FB

or Insta, so we had to make sure

to modify our content to put it everywhere

so you can reach so many more people, and then make sure

that they see your brand. One important

point is, a lot of businesses deal with this too..

where you feel like you suddenly have to flood the

market and be on everything, be everywhere.

...like a cockroach? No. The thing is, you start with

1 or 2 platforms..

and then you can start to expand a bit more.

So with us, we're not as adept at

Twitter or SnapChat. I am not at all good

at Insta/ SnapChat...I can't tweet fo shiz.

It was kind of good that

each of us had our strengths.

So, we were like, let's first start with the

ones we know, are comfortable with

then we can expand, which is totally fine. Then there's the

idea of being consistent.

You can put out content, but if its not on a regular basis

, then people are not going to be trained to

expect that. We realized that

late, because initially it was really hard to gain traction,

we didn't even get to 100 subscribers until early this year

It was insanely hard

to get to 100 subscribers, not a 100,000

Everyone assumes its 100K. Stop

saying K! I did not say K. Sometimes

especially the type of market we are catering to, people are

more silent observers, they take a little bit of time

to watch you and then maybe

a few months down the line, when you've really gained their trust

, thats when they come out of the woodwork and they're like

, 'Oh BT-Dubs, I love what you are doing'. Where were you the last few months? LOL

Some stuff, you just have to play the long game

but you have to be consistent, so with us

we upload our videos,

on a regular basis, every Tuesday, every Thursday,

at the same exact time, like most YouTubers

And that actually takes us

to the next point, you have to be

consistent, but you also have to adapt to your

surroundings, your industry, your

influencers, people around you, because

you can't say, ' I think I am doing my best, thats why I have X no. of subscribers'

the thing is

there are so many things that are changing whether it is platform,

content itself, or even the people you are meeting, so for us

VidCon was amazing, it was the

best conference to go to because that was our crowd.

We met our audience, people who would be great to collaborate with

, influencers for us, something we can aspire to be,

you have to do that as your personal brand, because if you have all that

together, then you will be effective

, and you'll be able to send your message across. Another thing that we really

had to figure out was, what our unique voice was

, we had a pretty good idea, because I feel

we have fairly unique styles

, personalities, I dunno.

But then, there's always the comments that you get, specially when

people who aren't familiar with YT as a platform who'd watch us

, family and friends, who didn't really

know what exactly we do

, so they'd say, ' You make too many faces,

or you dance too much', and it was like,

That's kind of who we are..I know!

You have to stand up for yourself, because if that's what you are trying to build

a Community

of people that are like-minded, you're going to

have to be YOU. Because there are a ton of people out there

Again, for brown people, being outgoing, and not reserved

telling people your flaws

is not easy,

including women, we're the voice for those

people. We are the voice for those people, we want to make sure we are real

We're not prissy-perfect.

Don't be afraid to own it.

I know initially when we started, we thought, 'OMG

who is going to want to watch people with accents?' YAAAS.

That was a big thing for us.

Well, thats why we're the 9to5 MisFits, not 9to5 CONFORMISTS!

Buh-Duh-m-Puh-m..Pish!

Well, this is our little version of Perd Hapley's - Ya Heard With Perd

That is the end of this story, and we are going to stop talking now.

The Two Types Of Cosmic Connections You'll Encounter – We Don't Meet Anyone By Accident - Duration: 7:39.

The Two Types Of Cosmic Connections Youll Encounter We Dont Meet Anyone By Accident

By consciousreminder

All our lives we search and seek to find the one who will complement and complete us.

Often people confuse longing for inner peace and balance for the want of true love.

Although the two have a connection, obtaining one with out the other isnt enough.

A person must find balance and peace with in themselves by finding their own way and

life path.

Once a person begins this journey a mate of the same likeness will be attracted to them.

Mates who share common life paths and destinies are often referred to as soul mates.

The bond that two soul mates share is established before their physical manifestation.

These two peoples destinies are intertwined.

They often hold the keys to each others mental, spiritual, and physical evolution.

Not all soul mates are intimate, and you may have more than one per lifetime.

Regardless of preconceived notions one will always when they have encountered a soul mate.

Good or bad, it is always a life changing experience.Soul mates are two soul from the

same soul group.

Meaning that when everything was infinitely connected, before the fall into the physical

dimensions, these two souls were one.

Soul mates have met many life times and are continually bound to each other by karma and

destiny.

When these souls come together in harmony with themselves; each other, and their destiny,

they will find that their purpose n this planet is to create change and assist with bringing

forth the coming universal consciousness.

Twin flames are the soul reflected opposites of each other.

Meaning that in the spiritual and physical realms this person is the dualistic reflection

of you soul.

Many people have different arguments claiming that this is not the same as a soul mate,

but push forward to give similar descriptions when it comes to the nature of their relationships.

I encourage everyone to do their own research when it comes to that matter and arrive at

your own conclusions.

Regardless if they are the same they hold a significant role in spiritual mental and

physical development.

As fore-mentioned there is more than one soul mate per person, but there are also different

types of soul mates as well.

The main two are Karmic and Cosmic.

A Karmic soul mate is someone who comes to teach you an unfinished lesson and balance

your karma.

There will come a point in the relationship where it becomes turbulent and unstable, but

one will feel the same connection as that of a soul mate.

You may experience many of the same signs and symptoms of a soul mate relationship,

but ultimately the relationship will result in major life changes for the people who experience

it.

A Cosmic soul mate connection will be almost instant.

It may feel as if you have known each other your whole lives.

Conversations will flow things will seem very natural between you.

You will have similar life paths with your cosmic soul mate and they will most likely

come into your life unexpectedly.

You may notice that the two of you have a very strong psychic connection.

You will most likely share some sort of 11:11 connection either in your birthday, day you

met, or other significant numerical situations.

When you speak to or are around your soul mate you may feel a sense of completion and

oneness with this person.

You may even experience a sudden calm or stillness with in, this is you soul mate realigning

and healing your past emotional and mental scars.

Both types of soul mate have a purpose.

The Karmic soul mate comes to strengthen us and put us on a path to serious self introspection.

They may bring out the worst in us but this is like an emotional detox.

By doing so they allow us the chance to take a good look at a lot of subconscious emotional

toxins.

It is up to us to decide whether or not to fix them.

If we do, often times we begin the journey to true enlightenment and soul fulfillment.

The cosmic soul mate counter acts the process of the karmic soul mate by giving us the healing

and warmth we need to grow after suffering through the violent detox that was our karmic

soul mate.

These people come into our lives to bring us not only healing but closer to our true

selves.

They assist us with the defeat of our personal demons and support us with that struggle.

They also come to assist us with both our personal and spiritual ascension process.

The main difference between the two in my eyes is that a karmic soul mate is hindered

in some way from establishing the soul ties necessary to create a soul mate connection

in this lifetime.

Where as the cosmic soul mate will be MORE THAN READY and able to do so.

If you are looking to attract a soul mate there are many meditations, rituals, practices,

candles to light, and colors to wear but the most important part of attracting a soul mate

is becoming whole with in self.

Find your inner peace and balance and this will reflect back to you in all relationships.

Here are a couple tips to follow when you are ready to attract a soul mate.

Colors to use (wear or candles to light) : pink, blue, purple, and green.

These colors resonate on a higher frequency and will aid in aligning your spirit to be

ready to receive your soul mate.

Create love affirmations in your own words to reprogram your subconscious mind to accept

love.

Listen to 528 hz love frequency and align and clear your heart chakra.

This can be done through meditation, yoga, or mantras.

Take an honest look at your self and strive toward self improvement.

When you suspect someone may be a potential soul mate you will be prompted by several

signs.

11:11 ties telepathic connection, for example you think

of them and they call or you might do or say things at the same time.

You will have had a lot of similar life experiences.

You will both be ready to form a soul mate connection.

Will feel like the relationship flows You will both accept each other as you are

You will try to avoid unnecessary conflict You become more than lovers you may

become friends, business partners, ect.

After coming together you will see dramatic growth and life improvement

It is important to note that a soul mate or twin flame is not only limited to intimate

relationships.

They can be family relationships, friends, and sometimes even enemies (karmic) as all

relationships have their purpose.

The purpose of a soul mate relationship is to help the souls that were split reunite.

By doing so it further unites the cosmic universal energy that flows through us.

Our ability to unify is our ability to express the divinity that shines with in.

HOW TO START A BUSINESS: WE DID 15K LAST MONTH - Duration: 11:00.

How to start a profitable business

Many people have been emailing me asking me

Cassie go back to the real beginning when you first started your business

how can I start a business and what are the first steps I should take

if this is your first time on my channel welcome to KICKINwithCASSIE

what's crazy is the start of my business wasn't very long ago. We only launched about 10 months ago

and we've grown it to about $3,000 a week in sales only operating five nights.

to anyone who is new to my channel, I will give you a quick synopsis of what I do.

I graduated college last year and I started a late-night cookie delivery service

out of the back of a local bagel shop in my college town.

when my boyfriend Brandon and I started the business, we were living in our car

and we had to beg a local bagel shop to let us use their kitchen in their off hours

we were able to save enough to launch our first cooking much our storefront in September 2017

and we are really excited! so my first piece of advice don't wait for the

magical idea to come into your head I've heard so many people say that they have

so many ideas but they can't choose what's going to start or they want to

wait until they find the perfect idea they want to wait for their final idea

because they think they're going to be doing it for the rest of their lives.

but just start with something you're passionate about it doesn't have to be

something that you want to do forever. Just start a business to get your foot

in the door and start getting a sense of what it's like to work for yourself!

I don't plan for Cookie Munchers to be the business that I die with.

But I just graduated college and it's something for me to build up to learn about starting

my own business learn how to handle employees and get my foot in the door of

entrepreneurship. If I waited for the perfect long term idea to come along it

could have been 2 to 3 years in a job or career that I just don't want to be in.

Why not in the same amount of time start Cookie Munchers and then in the same

two to three years figure out what business venture I want to start next.

Most entrepreneurs start multiple businesses in their lifetime before they decide

which one they want to be in forever. They learn and grow from each one to get

them to where they want to be. The sooner you start the longer you have now is the

best time to start. Just start something! So your first step push any obstacles

and hesitations you have about starting now

out of your way. Your obstacles could be: "my ideas and perfect I don't have enough

money" or "I don't have enough time." There is never a perfect time to start a business

you have to make that perfect time by pushing through any obstacles in your

way in any way you can. Make a list of all the reasons you can't start your

business right now and take a real step back and look at it. Actually write them down!

Make a plan to fix them and have a timeline to do so. If you don't, it won't happen.

It'll always be pushed to later. If your reason is you don't have enough

time, then make time! Sleep less. Cut more time out of your television.

Work during your commute! Just make baby steps to getting started.

So now you're ready. You want to make moves toward your idea. So what do you do first?

Create a version of your idea to test it. It doesn't have to be perfect.

Ours sure wasn't. We did our first test run over a week-long period, my senior

year of college I tested the idea out of my house just to see if it was in demand.

And to get a better sense of if it could be successful.

The best way to tell if your idea will be successful is to test it. Go out and sell it!

See how it does! We had black and white flyers printed and passed them out throughout the town.

We didn't even have a website yet. We just put a link on the Flyers that

brought them to our Facebook page where we found a free app where people could

order through our Facebook page in the most unprofessional way possible and

only pay cash. I'll be the first to admit it was far from the perfect system.

But people were ordering! Just from those flyers, we were hitting 20 orders a night.

There's nothing to test your idea better than pure sales. So let's say you have a

product idea that you want to invent. Try making a mock version yourself and

creating a few of them to test and sell. If you can't do it yourself, find someone

who can help you just make a few of them and sell them. It's very unlikely that

someone's going to come and steal your idea just from you selling a few of them.

Most people honestly just too lazy. Now with 3d printers, many prototypes can be

turned around in less than 24 hours. I'll even put in the description box below, a

company that will help you build a prototype now. If you have a service you

want to sell, do the same thing! Test it. Make some Flyers of your cleaning

service or whatever it is and pass them out throughout the town. Offer to do

a few places for free just to get some reviews started on your Facebook page.

Reach out to local Facebook groups and tell them about your newly found business.

I can't stress enough that testing your idea is the most important

thing you can do to make sure you don't waste your time or money on an idea that

no one wants. Oh! And did I mention this stage of your product does not have to

be perfect by any means. If you wait until your product is perfect, it will be too late.

You better believe our first week in making cookies, they were far from perfect!

Then after you test it, if you haven't already, come up with your

business name then go to your county's Registrar's Office.

They usually have a website online where you can check if your business name is

taken so that you can avoid getting in trouble. The easiest way to do this is to

Google "Check Business Name Availability" and follow that by your state and your

county that you're in and then press on the first thing that pops up.

And I'm sure that's going to be the page where you have to figure that out.

The logistics. If you're selling a product that you invented, make sure you go and

patent it. Google a local patent attorney and speak to them about your idea.

Usually that first consultation is free so make use of it! If that isn't relevant

to you, go register your business online. I would recommend setting it up as an

LLC because this protects you against lawsuits and helps protect your personal

bank account. Then in a few weeks, you'll get back your paperwork and you are

officially a business owner! So take that paper to your local bank and get a

business bank account. Step 3. Now that all the business stuff is out of the way,

it's time to move on to the fun stuff. During your test run, you may have

already designed a logo. But if you haven't, now is the time you can try it yourself.

or you can hire a graphic designer.

There's a website called Fiverr, which I will link in the description box below...

where you can basically get anything you need, made pretty cheaply including logos,

animations, commercials, basically anything you could need for your small business,

for as low as $5. Then trademark your logo at uspto.gov. I will also put that

link in the description box below. Many people don't know this but when you

trademark your logo, trademark it in black and white. This is because that

makes it cover any colors that you could end up having your logo. If you

trademark it as a specific color, it is only trademarked under that specific color and

only protects those specific colors.

So you want to trademark it in black and white so that it covers all colors that you could

want your logo in. Then if you haven't already make your Facebook page take

some pictures or video and throw them on there to make it look professional. Make

sure you have a nice cover photo and profile picture as well. Step 4.

You can make Facebook ads, flyers. Pass them around town get into the local

church bulletins. Get into the local paper. Tell them your story. If you're

selling a product online, be open to using Amazon, eBay, and Etsy to sell your

product in the beginning as well. This will help get your foot in the door

because they already have a following coming to their website. Once you have

your sales moving, reach out to bloggers and ask them if they'd be open to

reviewing your product or service. If your audience reads their blog, it will

be worth it. Also don't just contact bloggers straight-out. Make sure you've

been liking and commenting on their pages as well, so they get to know you

first and don't just automatically push you off as spam. So that's how you get

your business started from the real real beginning. Last few pieces of advice I

will give you, is surround yourself with mentors if you can. Reach out to people

you admire and send them a sincere message. Obviously don't try to aim for

someone too high here because that would be a lot less likely to get results.

Tell them how much you admire them ask them if they'd be willing to sit down for

15 minutes for coffee where you pick their brain. Or if they're far away ask them if

they'll do a Skype call with you. Maybe if you could find a smaller entrepreneur

like someone on Shark Tank, you can contact them and ask them if you can

pick their brain. I've contacted now about three entrepreneurs that I saw in

Shark Tank and I got responses from every single one of them.

Whatever you're interested in, just ask them. It will never hurt to have someone by your side

that you can ask questions and who can mentor you through the process.

You can also read books to get yourself in the right mindset by just listening to

people you admire. The person I look up to most is Richard Branson. He's in the

exact space that I want to be in in the travel industry and everything he writes

in his book is super helpful and they're actually incredible. Next some people

would disagree with me on this but I highly suggest bootstrapping your

business. This basically means trying to fund it yourself in any way you can

without having to take on investors or a bank. This will ensure you have full

ownership and control of everything you do and ensure that you also don't have

debt to the bank.

This isn't often possible without a lot of sacrifices but as I said before, when

we first started Cookie Munchers, we were living in our car. We were in our car,

and that was okay! All the logistics don't have to be figured out immediately.

Sacrifices will have to be made to help your long-term goal. I would suggest

doing whatever you can to keep your ownership. It will pay off in the long run.

Lastly, be patient but push hard. Don't expect everything to turn out

perfect immediately. You will make mistakes and probably a lot of them but

don't let the money you lose from making these mistakes bring you down.

You better believe that telling people I was starting a late-night cookie delivery

service got a lot of hesitation and a lot of giggles. People thought I was

wasting my degree away by not getting a corporate job and doing an idea that

they never thought would work. But I tested it and I knew it was something

people would want. I lived in that town for four years and I can't tell you how

many times I would have loved to order warm cookies to my doorstep at night.

Don't let anyone bring you down and tell you to give up. Listen to your customers

and if they like the product or service and it's selling, keep doing it! So I hope

this was helpful to you remember in this channel is not all about business it's

also about having fun! So leave your comments below and let me know what you

Almost Half Of Republicans Think We Should Shut Down "Biased" Media Outlets - Duration: 3:14.

A new poll conducted by the Economist and YouGov shows that 45% of Republicans in this

country believe that the government should be allowed to shut down media outlets that

they deem as biased or inaccurate.

Now I don't know if Republicans in this country realize that this would mean that Fox News

would be the first network to be shut down, but that's what Republicans believe.

If you're biased, if you have a left-wing slant or if you have a right-wing slant, because

it would go both ways, the government should be able to step in and just shut you down.

Well, I've got some news for these 45% of Republicans.

First of all, that is blatantly unconstitutional.

The press is protected by the First Amendment to the US Constitution, or did you not bother

to read that one because you were too busy fawning over the Second Amendment?

Second of all, facts do not have a liberal bias.

Yes, commentary does, but facts do not.

They're just facts.

They're indisputable things that no matter how hard you try, you can't convince people

that they're lies.

Well, you can convince people, but that doesn't make it so.

Republicans in this country think that any kind of negative attention towards any Republican,

any fact or figure or statistic that shows that Republican policies do not work, it's

all fake news and Donald Trump has helped perpetuate the myth that all of this is just

fake news while in reality, it's the result of studies conducted by professionals and

experts and people who do this kind of thing for a living, people with no political agenda.

But Republicans, because it doesn't fit into their narrow, little worldview, want to shut

it down even if it violates the Constitution.

There is a very real fake news problem in the United States.

There is a huge bias problem, but it's not coming from the left-wing media.

It's coming from the Drudge Report, from Breitbart, from Limbaugh, from Glenn Beck, and most importantly,

from Fox News.

Those are the outlets that need to be stopped because they are actually harming the American

public.

Throw Alex Jones in that lot too.

The lies and misinformation and hatred that they spread have real world consequences.

In that instance, it would be possible for the government to step in, if they had the

courage, and shut them down, but they won't do it because those outlets are on their side,

so Republicans can piss and moan about liberal media, liberal press all they want, but at

the end of the day the only news outlets that are causing any real harm to this country

are the ones coming from

the Right.

Are We Living in a Rick and Morty Like Simulation? (Because Science w/ Kyle Hill) - Duration: 9:13.

- This episode of Because Science

is brought to you by Audible.

How confident are you that this is reality?

Given the rise of technology that can resolve

better and better images and interactions to feel

more and more like real life,

some tech experts and philosophers and even Elon Musk

think that there's a very good chance

that this isn't reality.

It's a simulation.

And I'm gonna try to convince you they might be right.

(upbeat music)

My favorite recent example of simulation theory

is in the fantastic show, Rick and Morty.

In one episode, aliens simulate environments

and even whole people in the hopes of tricking Rick

and stealing his formula for concentrated dark matter.

The idea is that if properly simulated,

Rick wouldn't be able to tell the difference

between what is real and what isn't.

Rick could tell the difference, but could we?

Now if I for example suddenly looked

like a Rick and Morty me.

Uh you you'd instantly be able to

(belches)

be able to tell that something was up,

but since I've always looked like this to you,

like a human person, how can you really tell

that I'm not a simulation?

The short answer is you can't.

One of the more famous arguments that philosophers

have among themselves about this is called

Zhuangzi dreamed he was a butterfly.

Zhuangzi was an influential fourth century

Chinese philosopher and one day he dreamed he was

living the life of a butterfly without a care in the world,

but when he awoke he realized that there was no way

to tell if he was dreaming the life of a butterfly,

or if the butterfly was dreaming the life of him.

So the argument goes that there's no real way

to determine whether or not everything you experience

outside of your own mind is a dream,

or whether or not you're just a brain in a jar

being fed simulations by some

(belches) evil scientist.

But we can still think of the probability

of whether or not we live in a simulation

and it's more likely than you may think think

think think think, no that'd be too obvious if it did that.

Our existential crisis starts with accepting

just two assertions.

The first is that everything that you experience,

everything that happens in your brain

is at some level information processing

that could in theory be replicated by technology.

Nothing immaterial or magical.

Most scientists agree that this is the case.

The second assertion is that one day because of this basis,

future humans might be able to create simulations

that are so good it would be like running human.exe.

Simulated minds living in simulated environments

without knowing that they are simulated.

Kind of like Rick and Morty's Roy.

If those two assertions hold true,

then if at any point future humans

can run simulations that are like us

and we can't determine what is reality anyway?

Those simulations are bound to outnumber

the single base reality, meaning that

by the numbers alone, we probably live in one of those.

But future humans running these simulations

is just one possibility.

Philosopher Nick Bostrom is the one who popularized

this simulation situation with the essay

Are You Living in a Computer Simulation

published in 2003.

He thinks it comes down to a trilemma.

Because it seems like technology is headed

in the direction of better and better simulations,

either humanity ends before we can run these simulations,

humanity can run these simulations but chooses not to

because the NPCs that we'd create would

think and feel

and then might have rights, or we live in a simulation.

It has to be one of

(belches) these, I'm sorry.

And Bostrom doesn't think that the part that puts us

in a simulation is the least likely option either.

Like .1% or 1%.

He figures our chances of being in a simulation right now

are between 20 and 50%.

Think about it this way.

The trilemma, if you accept those terms,

unless future humans never run simulations that are like us

people that have experiences like us,

then chances are we are simulations

inside of a simulation right now.

Like good chances.

You can...

Am I in a simulation?

Why can't I escape infinity room?

It's like that scene in the Matrix,

but the Matrix 2 it wasn't as good.

But of course this all still comes down to processing power.

Could we ever ever simulate everything you experience,

everyone around us, everything we see?

Bostrom is pretty optimistic about this.

He assumes that when future humans reach

a certain stage of technological progress,

we'll be able to do very singularity like things

like turn entire planets into computers.

Okay, kind of supervillainy dude, but all right sure.

Based on the physical limitations in media

that we know of for information processing,

a computer like this could perform

10 million trillion trillion trillion operations per second.

Now if 100 billion humans have ever lived

and on average each human lives for 50 years

and there's 30 million seconds

in a year that's Rent, don't sue me.

And estimates for the human brain

put the operations per second

at somewhere between trillions and quadrillions

and you divide that by the processing power

of an entire planet,

then you could simulate all of human history

without using more than a millionth

of the total processing power for this planet.

And it might not even take that much processing power.

If our simulation was run like a videogame,

then NPCs, everyone around you might only

be simulated just enough so that they seem sentient.

- My man!

- Thanks, or the world if you didn't see it

or interact with it it wouldn't have to be

loaded to save on processing power.

What if to save on processing power,

I didn't exist until you clicked on this video?

What if we're a simulation inside of a simulation?

Then where is base reality, am I just in your head?

Do you even have a head?

Oh no!

So, are we all simulations?

Well, if you accept the fact that future humans

might be able to run simulations that are as good as this,

then yes there is a nonzero very real chance

that right now you are a simulation

living inside of a simulation

thinking about how you are simulated.

Sounds scary, but does it matter?

No.

This is still reality to us and we still have

experiences that matter to us, and in an uncaring universe

I think that's the most we can ask for.

And if we are simulations right now

that means that future humans

didn't go extinct, which is cool.

And the best way to figure out how they set up our reality

would still be to rise above, to focus on science

because of, because of science.

W-w-wait wait, wait wait wait Morty.

If the sun, if the sun's outside of the planet

(belches) planet's atmosphere Morty

then how can we hear it scream?

Y-y-you know that there's no medium

like air in between the sun and the earth, Morty.

So sound waves can't travel 'cause they're pressure waves.

'Cause they're pressure waves Morty,

so if the sun, even if it was screaming

you wouldn't be able to hear it.

Try not to think about it.

'We are very patient, but at some point we will have to respond' – Putin on new US Russia sanctions - Duration: 6:38.

If you'll let me, I'd like to continue with the theme…

it's quite resonant as it concerns the new US bill on tighter anti-Russian sanctions.

To some extent, the bill is resonating because

we've heard many European politicians and European organizations

heavily criticizing the bill recently

It looks like the US is trying to distribute the power of its laws

to the territories of other countries, to the countries of the European Union,

and in fact to make their bill extraterritorial.

Did you discuss the issue, and what is your attitude towards it?

Because now the independence and economic security of certain countries may be affected.

And a question to the Russian president:

if the bill is accepted, will there be a response from Russia,

what will it be like,

and is there the possibility of some Russian-American contacts due to this issue –

for example, a phone call with the US president?

Thank you

As for the extraterritorial nature of the US legislation,

I have been talking about this for a long time,

starting from 2007, in Munich, I suppose… Yes, this is how I said.

This practice is unacceptable,

it destroys international relations and international law

We've never agreed to this and will never agree.

As for how other states react to this,

it depends on the degree of their sovereignty

and their readiness to defend their own national interests

As for this particular case, we have seen the bill, of course – oh, I'm sorry

Many diplomats were expelled without an explanation,

diplomatic properties were seized,

which is beyond any regulations

as it violates fundamental international diplomatic norms and international law

And the sanctions are also illegal in terms of international law

[The sanctions] violate the principles of international trade and WTO regulations

We, as you know, are behaving with restraint, very patiently,

but at some point we will have to respond,

it is impossible to tolerate arrogance toward our country forever

When there is a response, the way it is will depend on the state

will depend on the final state in which we will see the bill

which is currently being discussed in the Senate

In any case, we are convinced that whatever happens next,

we have to move to another level of cooperation and agreements.

I hope that in the end, this is the way it will be

McCain: Let's just do this health thing so we can get to what matters--defense - Duration: 8:11.

The presiding officer: The

senator from Arizona.

Mr. McCain: Mr. President,

while the democratic leader is

still here on the floor, I just

want to mention that I

understand his concern about the

health care issue and the

amendments and the process for

moving forward and the necessity

for doing is.

I made my views very clear.

I won't repeat that eloquent

speech that I made.

I would just likeo say to my

friend from New York that we do

have a bill that passed through

the committee 27-0.

Not a single person against it

after many days of debate,

amendments, discussion,

including a couple hundred

amendments that were disposed of

in the tradition of the armed

services committee.

Now, I believe that it's in

everybody's interest to go ahead

and take up the defense bill so

that we can go to conference and

resolve other issues, such as

sequestration, et cetera.

So I understand the frustration

that my friend from New York

feels.

But I -- where I have a

disagreement with my friend from

New York is saying that these

two issues are inseparable.

I believe that our obligation to

the men and women in the

militacendant.

I understand the senator from

New York.

I was here, 60 votes, the bill

was rammed through over

Republican objections without a

single amendment.

I understand his frustration.

And so what the senator -- the

majority leader and I are asking

for is just tomorrow to take up

the bill.

We can get it done in a few

hours.

Send it to conference.

Take care of the equipment,

training, all the things that

the men and women who are

serving in the military need.

By the way, I understand the

emotion on the other side.

I felt the same emotion on this

side some years ago and I

haven't forgotten it yet.

So I would hope that -- and I

know that the senator from new

York has to discuss with his

conference this issue of the

defense authorization bill.

I would remind him and all of my

colleagues for 53 years now we

have passed and had the

president of the United States

sign the defense authorization

bill.

That is -- that is a precedent

that I really hope we do not

break because of our obligation

to the men and women who are

serving in the military.

And I know the senator from new

York feels exactly the same way.

I am not impugning the integrity

of the senator from New York.

But I would just ask that we

consider and I know that the

senator from New York has to go

back to his conference.

I hope that they would all

consider.

Mr. Schumer: Would my colleague

yield?

Mr. McCain: I note, for

example, the senator from

Virginia here on the floor who

has been a vital part of the --

no, not the other one.

Both have been vital members of

the armed services committee.

Yes, we have our disputes.

Yes, we have our arguments.

Yes, we are spirited.

But we come out unanimously

taking care of the men and women

in the military.

Mr. Schumer: Could my colleague

yield so I could answer him

before the majority leader

speaks.

Look, first our respect for the

senator from Arizona, my dear

friendship, really love for the

man is unbounded.

I am repeating in might head as

many of us have the speech that

our friend from Arizona gave

when he came back and we were

all so joyous that he did.

He talked about going to regular

order.

He talked about working in a

bipartisan way.

He talked about doing this

health care bill the right way

with hearings, with debate, with

amendment.

Even -- I accepted his

chastisement that we pass a

partisan bill.

We did have debate, amendments.

We had a process where six

people spent -- three from each

party spent six months trying to

come to an agreement.

We did not.

I must say the reason that we

must ask consent to go to the

bill is we're in reconciliation.

The very process that has

prevented us from debating, from

having hearings, from having

some kind of bipartisan input.

And I would say to my colleague,

if you want to get rid of this

reconciliation, fine.

Let's recommit the bill to

committee and start on a fair

process and we can go to ndaa

immediately, in an hour, if we

were to do that.

The reason we can't do that is

our dear friend, the majority

leader, is insisting on the

reconciliation process.

And you can't say -- we can't

because we feel defense is

important and we feel the health

care of tens of millions of

Americans is equally important.

And we can't say you can turn on

and turn off the reconciliation

process when you want to and

when you don't.

What's good for the goose, good

for the gander.

If it's good, if reconciliation

is poor and prevents ndaa coming

up immediately, it's equally

poor.

So my plea and suggestion let's

not go forward with this bill.

We don't even know what it is

yet.

Let's go back to committee.

I spoke to senator Alexander, I

spoke to senator Murray this

morning.

If this bill fails, they will go

back and try to negotiate

bipartisan improvements, just as

my good friend from Arizona

recommended when he came back in

that moving speech.

But my caucus, I've spoken for a

few, feel very strongly that

this process on health care has

been awful.

And it's because of

reconciliation and now

reconciliation has put ndaa in a

bind as well.

Let's get rid of reconciliation

and we can do what the leader --

the senator if Arizona wants and

what I think the American people

want, a fair process.

Mr. McCain: Reclaiming my

time.

Mr. Schumer: I ask unanimous

consent that my remarks --

the presiding officer: The

senator from Arizona has the

floor.

Mr. Schumer: I ask unanimous

consent my remarks count against

leader time.

The presiding officer: Is

there objection?

Mr. McCain: Mr. President, --

the presiding officer: Without

objection.

The senator from Arizona.

Mr. McCain: Mr. President, I

don't want to continue.

Our leader has important words

to say.

All I can say to the senator

from New York, this is not the

same.

Defending the nation is our

first priority.

That's what our declaration of

Independence says.

That's what our -- all of our

basis for our roles here.

And there are men and women who

are in harm's way today whose

lives are in danger, who need

this legislation to be better

equipped and better able to

defend themselves and this

nation.

I'm asking for Al few hours

because as my two colleagues

over there will state, we passed

this bill 27-0 through the armed

services committee.

We fight.

We argue.

We insult.

But the fact is we come out with

a product that we are proud of

and that all of us have

supported.

So all I'm asking the senator

from New York is if we could go

off of this for a few hours

because we have basically an

agreement on amendments and get

this thing to the president's

desk so that he can protect and

defend this nation.

That's all I'm asking for.

Mr. Schumer: Once more to my

colleague and briefly -- Mr.
