Digital Music Box - Episode 9 - The Sound System - Duration: 1:53.

Hi there! Welcome to another episode of the Digital Music Box construction.

Today we will speak about the sound system.

The sound system is an important component of this project since during "Noite Branca" there will be a lot of ambient noise

and it is necessary that the people who are interacting with the box

feel the vibration, feel the emotion

Therefore we had to perform some modifications.

Remember episode 4?

where we have placed the sub woofer down here?

It has been returned. It didn't meet the expectation.

Now, instead of one, we have two speakers, and much more powerful.

125W each...

cross over and amplifier.

everything down here.

In the mean time we have placed here a socket to allow connection of the power chord.

This compartment was mounted in a way that we could access easily to it's interior.

In the superior channel we have a much more moderated power.

60W per channel only

Each one with it's own crossover and amplifier

The idea behind separated amplifiers is to allow the regulation of each pair of speakers independently.

In the next episode we will speak about the panel which is already taking form.

as well as all the wirings.

Stay around, subscribe Imaginado's YouTube channel and see you on the next episode.

Sifting - Not From Here (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO) - Duration: 6:26.

I am here I am there

But I don't belong anywhere

I speak I pray

though my mind wants something else

Hard to wake up

Hopes are no longer built to last

Nothing's real

It all comes down to what you have

Blinded by brands and clichés

Burying the meaning of life

Where is the limit?

Didn't you get to carried away?

Our kids will inherit

All of our failure

see it wherever you are

Well life has the meaning

That we all want to give it

Just follow your instincts

Bring them with you

Feel them wherever you are

You are

Feeling nauseous

Getting older through regrets

Living nightmares

Sucking your soul out of you

Wearing Prada and Chanel

Burying the meaning of life

Where is the limit?

Didn't you get to carried away?

Our kids will inherit

All of our failure

See it wherever you are

Well life has the meaning

that we all want to give it

Just follow your instincts

Bring them with you

Feel them wherever you are

You are

You are

Waiting on the predictions?

So witness our extinction

Will you make up your mind?

Or would you sleep

to stage someone you're not?

You are not and will not be!

What if there is no more than this life that you've been given?

This obsolete system we've been using just doesn't fit

anymore and the more we try the more we're holding back

Are we still counting dollars while our brothers starve to death?

iZotope Trash 2: How to Use the Filter Module | Music Production | Sound Design | Berklee Online - Duration: 7:57.

All right, we're going to have another look at Trash from Isotope,

and this time we're going to focus on the filter module.

So I have all of the other modules shut off.

Note there are two filter modules.

I just have this one turned on.

You can have a filter module before and after the wave shaper here,

but of course I don't have any other modules turned on.

So it doesn't really matter.

I'm just going to use the first one.

So this is the filter here, and you can with this tab show more or less bane's.

So you can have multiple filters simultaneously here.

I'm going to keep it simple and just have one filter band right now.

And it can do a lot of different things.

It can act like simple EQ bank here.

So that's what this is just a simple parametric EQ.

And I can with these here change the bandwidth of this band,

and then add a booster cut.

And this just feels like an EQ so I have a drum beat.

If I turn this off here's the drum beat, and I turn this on.

[DRUM BEATS]

And it feels like am EQ band.

But I can do some other things as well.

For example, I can change this to different types of filter bands,

and I can click here.

And you can see that there's quite a lot of choices here

so it can be a high pass, band pass, low pass, or shelf.

And then these are all sort of different shapes for a different filter type.

So here I have high pass, band pass, low pass filter.

Here I have the same thing, but the shape and color of the filters

is a little different here.

Same with saturated, which will be a little more distorted.

And screaming only has two types of filters.

Synth has some variations on low pass filters,

and then vowels kind of a special case.

We'll look at that last here, but I'll just

try, for example, saturated low pass filter here.

It's a standard low pass filter, and this

will be the resonance of the filter.

[LOW-PASS FILTER DRUM BEATS]

And again, it's pretty straightforward low pass filter.

Now one of the really fun things you can do here is modulate filter cutoff,

and that's always something interesting to do with filters.

And that's the modulation section here.

So I have an LFO, and the LFO can be synced to tempo.

So I can have the LFO rate be quarter notes, or eighth notes, or whole notes,

or whatever.

Here's a half note, for example.

It's a sine wave is the waveform, and I can choose from multiple waveforms

here so whatever I want.

And what's interesting is that here this is the target of the modulation.

So this gives me some real fine control over the results.

This is my band, and this is the target of the modulation.

So the modulation will go from here, whatever this setting is, to here.

And I can see those settings here.

This is the band setting.

It's just about 1.3 kilohertz, and there's no booster

cut because it's a low-pass filter.

That's the resonance, not much resonance.

If I want I can add a little bit.

And then that's the target of the modulation, about 360 hertz

and a bit more resonance.

So what's going to happen is the LFO will

modulate back and forth between these two points based on this rate.

[DRUM BEATS]

And I can slow it down so we can see that little dot travel.

[DRUM BEATS]

Or if I wanted to, I could have it go from my 1.3 kilohertz band.

I could have a go up instead of down.

[DRUM BEATS]

Whatever I want.

In addition, this has an envelope follow that can modulate the filter cut off.

And in this case, I have an attack and release time here.

And this is my input signal, and this is the threshold

that triggers the envelope.

So here--

[DRUM BEATS]

--I can see this is about where the peaks are so I can

nice fast attack and moderate release.

And I'm going to bring down the threshold until this

starts to modulate filter cutoff.

And again, in this case it's going to go from here,

which is my original setting, to hear, which is the target setting like so.

[DRUM BEATS]

One more time.

[DRUM BEATS] I could bring it way out here--

[DRUM BEATS]

--and this could be any kind of a band.

I could even go back to the clean peak here, and this is the clean peak.

And I can have a boost here, and then for the target

I could maybe have a cut.

So now I'm going to go from boosting this frequency

to cutting this frequency.

[DRUM BEATS]

Or I could go downward, so maybe from a boost here to a cut here.

Or maybe this could be a different boost.

[DRUM BEATS]

That's kind of neat doink kind of sound.

It's kind of cool.

Now that other one that was kind of interesting was the vowel filters.

And so these are filters that have certain resonances built

into the filter, and they give you vowel like character here.

So this is it without any modulation.

[DRUM BEATS]

And you can hear there's a vowel like character to the sound of the filter.

And again, the fun here is when you modulate

this let's say with the envelope.

And I'll just do something like this.

[DRUM BEATS]

And it's like I got a guy singing "doy; doy, doy" kind of thing

along with the beat.

[DRUM BEATS]

And that's kind of an interesting sound effect.

Something you could use in the music production,

or in a slightly different way doing some sound design for visuals.

Let's look at an example using a sound design effect here.

This is just an [? air wrench ?] so without this filter on.

This is just the sound effect itself.

[CLACKING]

Let's see what it feels like here.

I'm going to bring the threshold all the way up

so I can see the level of the signal.

[CLACKING]

Now dropping it a bit.

[CLACKING]

Kind of an interesting sound, really.

And I can tweak the filter, the original setting here, as well as the target

here.

[CLACKING]

That's an interesting sound design element.

I could use that for something.

So this is the idea with the filter section of Trash.

Can Silence Be Music? - Duration: 6:47.

Hi.

Welcome to the Listener's Guide.

I'm Steve, and in August 1952, David Tudor was giving a contemporary piano recital, which

included a number of new works.

Among them was a piece called 4'33" by John Cage.

To perform the work, Tudor walked onstage and closed the keyboard lid.

He sat in total silence for four minutes and thirty-three seconds, except for the sound

of him reopening and closing the lid to indicate the breaks in the three-movement work.

Almost overnight, this piece became one of the most controversial pieces ever written,

because it forced so many people to ask themselves: is this "music"?

Now, this was not the angle Cage was going for.

He said of the performance, "They missed the point.

There's no such thing as silence.

What they thought was silence, because they didn't know how to listen, was full of accidental

sounds."

Cage was a Zen Buddhist and much of his work focused on removing the imposition of the

composer from the work and on getting his audience to focus on the world around them

in new ways.

This was an especially brazen and revolutionary method to do so; by retaining the trappings

of performance but removing the expected sounds, the audience is forced to pay attention to

the sounds they would normally tune out, like the shuffling of feet and the crinkling of

programs.

Regardless of Cage's intent, though, I still think it is worthwhile to ask ourselves, "Is

this 'music?'"

To start with, let's use a common definition of 'music' from Edgard Varese, which states

that music is organized sound.

Normally composers organize sound by writing down the sounds that they want on the page,

and that's about halfway true in this case.

Cage writes in three movements of "tacet," which just means that the performer is not

playing during that time.

It just means "hey, sit this one out, and we'll

tell you when you're needed again."

But the notated silence in this case is not the sound that Cage had in mind.

As he said, he wanted the audience to focus on the "accidental" sounds of the performance.

In a sense, these sounds are somewhat organized.

There is a common pool of sounds because of the nature of the performance, for instance:

people will be wearing basically the same kinds of clothes that make predictable sounds,

and since they're all humans, they'll hear the general sounds of being alive; the

building itself may contribute the sound of air conditioning or of water moving through

pipes; and the outside world might throw in some weather, some vehicles, etc.

But even if the sounds are predictable, would you call them organized?

If so, did CAGE organize them?

For that matter, for the sound to be organized, does it have to be specifically requested

by a composer?

If so, how do we describe improvised solos in jazz, rock, and other traditions?

But then again, in this particular case, the "performer" is making no sound.

Tudor was sitting on stage in careful silence so that this event could happen.

Does the performer have to make sound for it to be music?

Of course not!

Classical musicians actually value silent performers quite highly—we just usually

call them "conductors."

But then, if he's the "conductor," who is his ensemble?

In a sense, his performer could be the audience.

Plenty of musical performances involve audience music-making, whether it's clapping along

at your favorite rock concert or congregational singing in church.

Tudor's audience, while unwitting and unsuspecting, did provide the bulk of the sounds in the

performance.

The question that's much harder for me is one of instrumentation.

Tudor was supposedly playing the piano, but to create the sounds that made the piece required

him kind of playing… the universe?

Which is a strike against the idea that he's a conductor, because societal expectations

control his audience, but nobody there controls the weather or the taxis that drive by.

But that's what you hear when you perform 4'33".

Just normal sounds, entirely out of your control, happening more or less at random.

The only thing that makes it different from other random noise is that your attention

has been directed to it, because it's called 4'33".

If I wanted to perform the piece, all I would have to do is say that I'm performing it,

and then I would be, and suddenly these random sounds become musical ones.

But I won't.

Because I haven't secured the performance rights and that would be copyright infringement.

How messed up is that?

The only thing that determines a performance of 4'33" is calling what you're doing

4'33".

Naming the silence literally brings the piece into being, and that is copyrightable act.

So it has all the elements of music and none of them, it's deeply profound and horrendously

superficial, it's organized and it's not… it's basically music, but divided by zero.

The world just breaks when you think about it too hard.

But the reason it's so important is that it reminds me, as a music researcher, how

important a culture's construction of artistic meaning is.

The success of this piece depends on our cultural assumptions about what makes music, then it

turns those assumptions on their heads and helps the audience recognize and challenge

those assumptions.

And personally, I think we could use a lot of challenge to our cultural biases in this

day and age.

Also, just an end note about David Tudor, because I didn't know where else to fit

this in the video, but he had a LOT of these kinds of avant-garde works written for him.

LaMonte Young wrote one where you feed straw to the piano and the piece ends when it has

either eaten or refused the straw.

There's another one that's just a line of text that says "Most of them were very

old grasshoppers."

Like… what?

So hi there!

But these days I don't even know myself, no

I always thought I'd be with someone else

I thought I would own the way I felt, yeah

I call you but you never even answer

I tell myself I'm done with wicked games

But then I get so numb with all the laughter

That I forget about the pain

Whoah, you stress me out, you kill me

You drag me down, you mass me up

We're on the ground, we're screaming

I don't know how to make it stop

I love it, I hate it, and I can't take it

But I keep on coming back to you

I know my friends they give me bad advice

Like move on, get you out my mind

But don't you think I haven't even tried

You got me cornered and my hands are tied

You got me so addicted to the drama

I tell myself I'm done with wicked games

But then I get so numb with all the laughter

LADA 2114 from Murmansk with music by LOUD SOUND - Duration: 14:15.

Tigran!

What the fcking heck is this?

You just received that video with the Novorossiysk car, and you go and put up this snake party all over again?

You got a wire out. It's just falling out. The monoblock's numb, and we need to get on with this video.

Who hooked this up?

The wiring?

This is no fcking Loud Sound.

Hey, everyone. We're having a usual review of a usual car today.

From a very unusual location.

We had one car from Murmansk already, tho.

It was one Volkswagen Touareg.

This is the second farthest car. The runner-up. The farthest one was from Shushenskoye, just recently.

It is in Krasnoyarsk kray. The guy drove 4,500 km (2800 mi)

And this car came 3,500 km, if I got it right.

And even more. The owner went to past us to the seaside, right?

Then they came back to us. It's been, like, - what? - like, 2 weeks since we've put the sys together.

And this time was the testing drive-in time. The system works okay. Went down to safety mode only once.

even though the predictions were plenty of fall-offs.

The arrangement is quite regular, however the components are rather rare and hi-end.

For mid-bass, for example, we have Italian 8NMB420. Those are some kickass mid-bass speakers.

They are very expensive, with tons of patented stuff in them

There was about 5 things patented for those speakers' schematics.

They hit it perfectly well for both lower-mid range and the very middle frequencies.

But we have chopped them quite heavily on the top so that they splash it harder in the lower range.

On the bottom, they're filtered off at 80 Hz, and they play up to some serious business mid-bass.

Like all the other components, there is a pair of these. In the doors, we got a complete doubled 3-way.

On the upper side, in the middle frequency range, to be precise, these are backed up by 6ND410 mid-ranges,

the very legendary Violets.

They are extremely loud. I guess they are THE loudest mid-range speakers on the market eligible for car use.

They have been massively cloned over time.

Tweeters are not Italian.

Let's call it Chitaly. Those are Alphard T-35. Not bad ones.

And they never burned, like everything else in here. Even though they are fed some big time power.

All the other hardware goes by Alphard.

For the sub, we have Deaf Bonce's 153, the lower line subwoofer that has seen some sht.

This is not that sub's first car. And the quality of sound is quite nice for the money.

And all the amps are Deaf Bonce, as well.

One Deaf Bonce 2K for the sub I've mentioned, and two counts of DB 180.4 for the mid-range and the mid-basses

What's noteworthy is that the DB feeding the mid-bass speakers has a double bridge arrangement.

The owner asked for it. I'll be honest I never dug this idea.

But he turned out to be right. There never was a fall-off. Unless he is hiding something from me.

You can imagine the kind of power this very strong AB-class amp gives out with two bridges on it.

Each bridge works at 4 Ohms.

The 8's, the mid-bass speakers in the doors, are parallelled.

They are 8 Ohms, each, but with parallell circuit arrangemet, we get 4 Ohms.

Gotta say the control remained quite manageable.

What I hate about bridges most is that you lose control over the speaker and you can't make it work at its top power.

Many think, the more ower the easier. But that's not always the case.

Sometimes it's uncontrollable power. And the speaker gets clipping.

And you get the opposite of what you need. You struggle with turning the volume up,

and you're limited in the way your speaker starts exceeding the drive the moments you need it least

In here, we seem to have found the golden mean, but I still believe we would've pulled out more power

if we favored the channel-on-channel arrangement over the bridged one. But this is enough for you, right?

This is one hack of a sound.

For the feed, we have 3Excide batteries.

One 75-er under the hood, and two 95's in the trunk.

To back the batteries up, there is the stock alternator for 115 A.

We decided not to replace it. And gotta say it, it's enough for the system.

The minimal power loss on the way, no lower than 12.1 A with the engine off, correct?

Under the hood we have this sports beam that kicks hte HP count up by 18 horses.

There's a turbine here, 16 V.

It's all the regular stuff, pretty much. Snakeskin, heat shrink. No need to show that closely.

This is a good thing, see? It's quite convenient hiding wring in it.

Like a cable harness.

Gotta also note that apart from being 16 V the engine comes from a Lada 2112.

So we got a swap kkind of thing going on here. A '14 with a '12's engine.

And the kick is unreal, right?

Does it go 120 at least?

Here, we have the most legal tanning I've ever seen. It's on magmets, look! Convenient.

They stop you, and you're like - whoop! - What tanning?

The doors turned up reasonably heavy.

All the control organs remained in place. We can open it, and lift the window from here.

The electric drive for the mirrors is still here, too.

This is a '09-er tuning, huh?

The covers are donewithout any flaws, and they house everything they were supposed to house.

On the rear seatback, we have the DB 2K amp sitting. There's anothr sports beam. Plus 18 HPs more.

The wiring is very carefully laid.

Aren't they just perfect? Now, Tigran knows neat. Well, this is a covert element of the install.

This is pretty hardcore. And if you're gonna troll anything, here you go. Knock yourselves out.

4 lays, 75 sq each, are laid to the back. That was a challenge.

And here's the 153 sub. It's seen some shit already. You can see how strong the lip is.

Must've hit against something pretty badly in the previous car.

And under the raised floor, we got all the amps and batteries.

Two 4-channel amps, and a 2-chalnnel one

The HU is our fav, Pioneer 80. Let me show you the settings now.

On idle, we see 12.8 V which is a good figure.

The subwoofer is clipped at 50 Hz. I just did it now. Used to be cut at 63 Hz.

If, let's say, there's not enough humming, we can raise the clip.

The mid-bass speakers arestarting at 80 Hz, as I've already mentioned.

Sometimes we even go down to the third order. At the moment, we have the fourth on.

So they are playing pretty low range.

On the top, this band is clipped at 5 KHz.

And further on, the tweeters kick in.

The latter start up at 8 KHz. You must be wondering what's between 5 and 8 KHz.

'Number experts' always do that.

If we clip a band at 5 KHz, it does not mean that there is silence after 5 KHz. It starts slowly fading.

If we have a frequency responce hump between 5 and 8 KHz, setting like this does not remove it

but rather makes it quieter.

So it's not uncommon that you even need to clip it at 4 KHz. So never trust these numbers.

Many think that if this one's clipped at 5 KHz, and the next band kicks in at 8 KHz, there's silence in between.

Which is wrong.

The HU, let me remind you, is on top of the middle sector. It has no analogues.

There's only the Pioneer 99 better, and the cost is thrice as high there.

The 580 is worse, and it's twice as cheap.

And in the middle, there are no substitutes with neither Pioneer nor competitors.

So if you can't afford a Pioneer 99, and you want something that's better than a 5-10 K rub worth processor HU,

Pioneer 80 is your best bud. At the moment, the cost is around 20-24 K rub.

It has almost the full package. Bluetooth, time delays, a well'developed Xover.

I keep forgetting if it reads FLAC. I feel like it doesn't, right?

That's too bad. Everybody loves flac. You only listen to flac, don't you.

Btw, we've been uploading setup CDs in .flac on loudsound.ru in the Downloads section.

People have been asking about it. There's EMMA, there's AMT, there's Focal.

And we're gonna add more so we end up with a collection of setup CDs in the highest quality possible.

For the most exquisite ears, there will even be HiRes tracks.

And there will even be CDs with not just music but special tracks created to help you set time delays,

tonal clarity, stage width, stage depth etc.

We got carried away a pinch. Gotta turn that tonal clarity on and time delays now.

Coming up in a sec. We'll play some now.

Tigran!

What the fcking heck is this?

You just received that video with that Novorossiysk car, and you go and put up this snake party al over again?

You got a wire out. It's just falling out. The monoblock's numb, and we need to get on with this video.

Who hooked this up?

The wiring?

This is no fcking Loud Sound.

Yeah, well, unfortunately we can't show you the bass because--

Yeah, this is an '09. To reach something here, you need to open, then open again, and open some more.

So a wire here fell off. This wasn't done by Loud Sound, bc Loud Sound don't do it like this, right, Tigran?

Someone forgot something and failed. I'm sorry, pal, but I'm showing this.

Because this needs to be shown.

That's why we're listening to the front only. Although we could stub it in nice and easy.

And turn on the sub set with a firework of sparks here.

But we're not gonna do that.

We'll have to kick up the power for the mids.

So if the mids burn, it's all on Tigran.

You don't even need the subs! It's okay without it.

For your understanding -- With the engine off, huh? It's just when this meter shows 1 irl it's 0.

And 2000 is 900.

[O]: We can start it.

Right.

The feed is there.

Well, the project turned out nice. Tigran did a great job.

And crappy at the same time.

The wiring is a bummer. I mean, we gotta troll ourselves when failures like this pop up. No other way.

From now on, I'm gonna look specifically for flaws. If I can't find one flaw, then the job is done well.

[O]: There is some kickass playing footage, btw. Misha did some.

Right, sure. Misha Moskalenko already made a review of this car. Check out his review.

A bit of a promo for Misha. Hey, man, bring some wine... Just kidding! Don't!

You ask Misha to bring wine as a joke, and then that's no way back. Everyone gets hammered.

'cuz he brings like a tank of it.

That's al, guys. This was LOUD SOUND. You know what to do and whom to subscribe

Bye, everyone. Live LOUD.

Wait a sec. Let the car pass.

I got some tan already.

And you're fresh off the seashore, right? You're got used to this.

Clones, copycats, knock-offs.

Another car.

And here's just the time to troll my sweaty shirt. Oh, wait. I'm gonna sweat even more in a moment.

6ND410, mid-range speakers.

Fcking shit!

This is not a good setting we've picked.

Gotta note the alternator is enough for the sys. The power loss is mini-- fcking flies!

The HU is - let me remind you - one of the most --

The H--

The H-- Holy fck! What's with my face?

There's a snake party going on here. There must've been too many wires -- FCKING FLY!

Shit! And they bite!

Many think the more the power the louder you can get you system to play. Screw your guts, man!

Gotta do another take. This bike was one fck too loud, right?
