Things To Do In Florence, Italy- Hidden Gems - Duration: 3:22.
Florence is one of the most beautiful places in Italy. I studied abroad here a
couple years ago, and I found these hidden gems. There are plenty of vendors
in Florence but most markets are crowded with tourists.
To escape the crowds, head to the Sant'Ambrogio market. This daily market has
has everything from fresh produce and food to clothing and accessories. And inside
there's even more food! Across the river from the main city center, is a quaint
rose garden. This garden is much less crowded than the well-known Boboli
gardens.
From there, head up the stairs to piazza michelangelo. This is one of the best
views in Florence with panoramic views of the city in all directions. Florence
still has remnants of its ancient times with medieval walls spread across the
city. One of these walls is the entrance to San Nicolo, a neighborhood in florence.
This side of the river is much less touristy with many local restaurants and
cafes.
The biblioteca delle oblate is a local library and community center. Of course
you'll see people studying, but you'll also notice some amazing views. The cafe
has great food and smoothies and a beautiful view of the duomo out the
window. And now for my favorite pizza place in the world, gusta Pizza. So it's
slightly touristy because a lot of study abroad kids go there, but I have to
recommend it anyway. Grab your pizza and head to Piazza Santo Spirito for lunch.
This piazza surrounds the church and is a nice place to hang out. It has a lot of
cafes with mostly locals.
There's also a big flea market every second Sunday of the mont. Oh and I'm
sure you'll want gelato. A quick tip is to find a place with homemade gelato,
instead of a business that just buys it from someone else. You can always ask.

who do, who do you think that He is? Who is He in your heart? You know, it makes a
difference how we answer that question. For some people, Jesus is just their
non-judgmental superfriend. For others, Jesus is the scary judge who is
going to come at the end of time. For others, He's an interesting historical
figure, someone who's a great moral teacher. There's a really famous song,
right now, very popular tune out of Guatemala. "Jesús es verbo, no sustantivo"
which means: "Jesus is a verb, not a noun."
Now, it's tempting to oversimplify. Obviously to follow Jesus is to love Him
and to love others. There's no way to be a Christian without action. But the
song even goes further than that... that, that we don't need the Bible, that we don't
need to pray and we don't need these other things, these other trappings of
religion. It sounds quite Gnostic actually that Jesus is something
amorphous inside of you and inside of everybody. But there can't be a Jesus
without a Bible. There can't be a Jesus without His actual words, His actual deeds.
So I want to, want to challenge you with this week is to A) get a Bible, if you
don't have a Bible, whether it be to buy a paper Bible, an RSV or an NAD.
Or to just download an app on your phone. Have it at the ready. The Gospel of Mark
wouldn't take more than a few hours to read. You can get it done before your
next meal if you really wanted to. But for now just
start reading. Find out what Jesus really did, what He really said, and then come
back to the question: "who do you say that I am?

- [Daniel] Our organization is Greek Life Serves,
and we aim at alleviating food insecurity in D.C.
one plate at a time.
When I joined Greek life,
I was told that a lot of the houses always had extra food
that weren't using or that they were dumping,
and I had an a idea that,
why don't we utilize the Greek community,
get them to donate their entire meals
and actively volunteer to serve it out.
- [Julia] The sorority and fraternity houses here
all have a meal plan,
part of that plan is you have a chef prepare meals.
We start by getting chapters
to volunteer to donate their food,
and then we deliver insulated bags to their chapter houses
for chefs to put the prepared meal in.
The chapter volunteers then drive the food
to wherever we are hosting the event,
and that's where the volunteers serve the food.
- [Shawn] To have a group like the University of Maryland
Greeks, come to the club and provide them a full meal,
that for many of these kids,
is the best meal they'll get all week.
- [Julia] Food insecurity really is a big issue in our area,
so it's important that the students are aware
of the community that they're in
and they are aware of their surroundings
and try to help.
- [Daniel] This past year we delivered,
and served out nearly one thousand meals
to different Boy's & Girl's Clubs,
and different homeless shelters in the region,
and we engage with 17 different chapters
and it went extraordinarily well.
- [Julia] It's really important to the people we help,
specifically the children we help
because it provides, not just a fun evening
for the kids, it also provides an excitement for college,
excitement for Greek life,
and it really sort of ignites a spark in that.
